One day, I was summoned to this world.

Beasts poured out, and an incredible crisis came.

My talents couldn’t have been worse.

[The player’s talent level is at rock bottom.] [Almost all the numbers are hopeless.]

Whether you have to become a warrior or a wizard.

Whether you’ve gone back in time.

You have to take advantage of everything in order to survive.

“What about it?”

“I’ll use everything I have to survive!”

One of the best novels. Even though there are plot holes it's still entertaining. The MC is tr*sh. Not just like other novel MC where they say the MC is tr*sh but it's really not the case. The MC on this novel is legit bona fide tr*sh.

Also just to address other reviews written by others. Yea the girls in this novel act far from reality but that's why this is tagged as fantasy, it's part of it's charm. So if you want to read things that are closer to reality... more>> go find a biography to read or whatnot. <<less

I definitely could see trace from other popular novel here; The world building is similar to Memorize; the girls are similar to dungeon defense on steroid with charm spell casted on them, and of course; the regressor is main waifu-ORV vibe. The difference between those and this is probably the fact that the main character is a scum that somehow manage to get positive impression from his teammates.

There're certainly several parts that I skip (mainly waifu moments), but it's still a pretty good novel to pass the time

There are only two things you need to know:

1) This is an amazing story with a great translation. It is honestly one of the best on NU.

2.) An extremely powerful story of a scumbag, if you like grey MC read this novel. The main character is really cunning and smart, the way he outsmart he's enemy and allies is so funny.

Regressor Instruction Manual is really, really good. You won't regret reading it...

I gotta say, this novels is one hell of a ride.

The MC is not all typical genius protagonist but one that is just doing what he can to survive. He takes opportunities when there are and even if they are no morally right. He manipulates his way through in order to achieve his goals.

The girls on this that are into the MC are just crazy ... more>>

and into him due to his characteristic

either from the get go or for some reason

Spoiler

mostly the MC messing up to have them on his side. Just like Jung Hayan and others.

Other characters are well done. Most of them have their own screen time and reason and they are well cover (is not like I can remember every single thing. So there may be things that I just forgot)

Overall this novel is one train of thing happening that make up for a good story in my opinion. <<less

If you would be called a squeeker (urbandictionary it if you need to) in the gaming community, this novel may appeal to you. In fact, you might love it.

If not, then please read my review instead of chapter 1.

If you've read The Second Coming of Gluttony, then this novel is what would happen if you forced a 13 year old narcassist to try and write a book like it. If you havent read SCOG, read it instead, unless your a immature teen, as this novel probably appeals to them... more>> more.

If you have read SCOG, good luck finding a new novel to read, this isn't it though so keep searching.

Onto the review.

Ugh.

This novel started out with some potential.

The elements were all there, but the writing is just terrible.

I guess I should start with the good though.

Survival in a new world with a game setting, a non MC character who went back in time, and a calculating MC without a savior complex.

Similar in part to many novels here, but packaged together here it is unique.

Unfortunately, the author has no idea how to write a female character, it's like he's never touched or even interacted with a female.

The girls in this are pathetic, always wrong, mostly crazy, and supposedly smart but actually unintelligent due to incomprehensibly unrealistic emotions.

Man, the main girl freaks out like its a bestoment from god whenever MC touches her hand, nosebleeds and s*upid other nonsense + insanity if someone so much as touches or hurts MC.

The author would be better off pretending that humans cellularly divide and making every character male, but even then its like the author is a narcassist who put himself in the novel as MC, which is why no other character matters.

I made an account to save you some time.

After reading probably 200 novels on this site, this is the first time I've been compelled to actually post a review.

It seems like an ok story for the first 20-30 chapters, but I'm at 60 and it's all been about interactions between 1 dimensional characters, there is almost no actual action in the novel. Its just MC outsmarting tons of characters you don't give a sh*t about.

I wouldn't have written this review if the first 20 chapters weren't decent, and I didn't feel like maybe the novel would get better later.

It doesn't.

If you want to read something actually good, try world of cultivation, anything by ieattomatoes, city of sin, tales of demons and gods, star oddessy, or hell, galactic dark net is pretty good and nobody has heard of it. All of them would enthrall you far more than this garbage. <<less

I was kind of enjoying the novel. It wasn't anything amazing and as long as I avoided as thinking of the characters as people I didn't feel bad for them. I probably would have kept reading it, but the translation once Active Translations took it over it just got really inconsistent. For example there was something like a list of skills they got from their class such as "Job Skill: Beginner Swordsmanship" however when there were lets say 5 skills, 3 of the would say "Job Skill" and 2 would... more>> say "Occupation Skill." It was little things like that, and they just added up. There were also a lot of mix ups with the names, and they would say you instead of I. A few times I had no idea what was going on, I think it was because of frequent scene changes but I'm still not sure. I enjoyed it, it was just too much of a hassle to read. <<less

I would like to state that I am really into fantasy novels that have very good world-building and character development.
A notable example would be Overlord. What I like is all the little details and learning about this world almost like a history book... I think Regressor Instruction manual really captures this. The author pays close attention to details, it's almost as if you don't really care about the plot, but just learning about the world and characters is what makes it so interesting.

The character is... as most people say... more>> an a**hole. I'm not sure if I would say this... I mean he is sort of a dick, this is hard to describe. For the people who f*ck with him, he completely destroys their lives and in most cases, they die in the worst possible ways. He is sort of like a demon, while he isn't strong he is good with words and turning the situation around... basically setting up the person he doesn't like. Honest, this is the part I love so f*cking much about this story. However, there are a few parts there he sort of becomes a d*ck because of it. He does whatever he needs to survive, like seducing people. It isn't the he just seduces them... it is hard to explain without spoilers.

--light spoiler--
Spoiler

He makes a girl fall in love with him because she has a lot of potential... he doesn't exactly care, but it becomes too late and she has a few screws loose. Her being the type to kill everyone who smiles at him. Breaking up with her isn't exactly an option. Personally, he did what he had to do, so of a d*ck move, but I don't blame him. The part that makes him a d*ck in my opinion is that she honestly loves him and since he can't leave... he could at least go full in and bang her, at the very least marry her. There is also another girl who is his "soul mate"... honest she is just like him in about every way. I'm a bit surprised that she hasn't "teamed up" with the crazy girl to date him as well.

[collapse]

So while the Main Character is doing his thing... a dragon pops up and becomes a part of the picture. Personally, I think this was one of the biggest mistakes in the whole series (up to chapter 300). It just doesn't hit him in my opinion and he sort of already has his hands full with something similar. I think the author went a little overboard here and because of I would change my score to a 4/5. I almost get the feeling the author was forced to write it, up to this point (ch1-180?) I would have rated the story 5/5.

The story eventually hit another weird arc, The museum. It just didn't feel right. It didn't match the character nor the story in my opinion. It felt so strange... like it was specifically there to fill a plot hole or something. Honestly, because of it, I almost feel like giving it a 3/5... It in my opinion could simply have just been removed and the story would have been better.

This is strange because up to this point there author has done an AMAZING job navigating foreshadowing and plot points. One of the main plots is that while the MC is weak, but smart... one of his "friends", is a regressor, because reliving his life again. The MC has no idea what happened, but because of his smarts and paying attention he sort of gets the idea "this guy is evil, lets get rid of him" and ends up helping his "friend". This is actually one of the greatest things, it is what really pulled me into the story as they do slowly become actually bros even tho the MC doesn't really like many people.

After this the story does continue on and there are still tons of amazing little arcs that are honestly golden, it takes a pretty interesting approach into magic, monsters, and leveling up. While it isn't explained in huge detail, there are explanations so it is still very enjoyable. There are those 2 parts that I don't think fit into the story, at least in this point of time (chapter 300) and they sort of left like a waste, I would normally rate it a 3/5, but because the rest of the story is so great I'm going to give it a 4/5. You may see 4/5 and think meh, but for me this is very good. I rarely, rate anything above a 3 and I highly recommend giving this a read if you are into fantasy, world building, and character development.

One thing I am a bit worried about are "never ending powers" or "plot powers". The MC isn't that strong, but very smart when it comes to creating items and potions... however, him and his group sort of start making things that are "modern". aka hologram, IIRC it seems like he created a "tv" with it and started mass producing it... Personally, I'm not a big fan of this. It feels a bit, not cringe but... ret*rded?.. idk I just would hate that eventually, they creates everything "modern" with magic... making it basically a modern world with magic. It wouldn't be bad if it was like 1 per city, because all these things are extremely difficult to make, but for some reason now they have all become super easy or produce, which just seems a bit s*upid. I hope the author limits this... if it is hard to make... LEAVE IT HARD TO MAKE. There shouldn't be thousands of them. It is a huge plot tool you could use leaving it rare.

There are some things to worry about, as I said the MC is sort of a d*ck and some things get dark, so if you are not into that then you may want to past. Personally, I like it, it gives it some weight... this world is tough and difficult to survive in, so if these things didn't happen it would be strange. While I love this style, some might not. If you freak out that someone got killed, you may want to pass.

Another thing to note, I've seen someone mention this above, if you are not used to Korean Web Novels... korean names are difficult to get used to for English speakers. You will see many names like li-young, yu-young, and so on... so when you are reading it you may only see young and get confused. Just make sure to pay attention to the full name. It's sort of like Thompson and Johnson. The ending is the same, but the names are different, so keep an eye on that.

Something I thought was strange... when people arrive in this world they arrive together. So like all south koreans arrive from out "entrance", all japanese another one. At first is almost makes sense, since physically these places are near each other. So it makes sense all these Asian "entrances" are near each other... china and a few others are in the country next to them. However they started mentioning the UK people being close... almost like its the country next to them, which is weird because in our world they are almost opposite, so it should probably be the furthest place from them. With Russia, or middle east being closer. IDK, Not really sure where this is going, but when they arrive they sort of have an impact on the locals, so you see some slight influence. Just strange geographically. For all I know its a weird thing with translation, but it doesn't seem like it as aspects are specifically described about them. Anyways it doesn't hurt the story, just thought it was weird. <<less

I enjoy this series very well until ch. 50

Smart and cunning MC, tried his best to survive. He use every card at his disposal, glib tongue and lie without hesitation. The story flow naturally and each Heroine have their unique traits. It's not harem where MC showing his OPness and the girls flock to him. Also nice and fast translation.

But sadly this series isn't suited my taste.

... more>> Just 1 reason : the character's name. It's feel like there are several Kim, Jung names here.

No offense for Author, or Korean people. I prefer easier name to remember, so I can focus to the story rather than remember their name.

Honestly did not think I would enjoy this story as much as I am right now.

In short the story is about Mob C that was destined to die at the start of the story however because the hero regressed back in time and started over he inadvertently saved Mob C.

The MC who was destined to die is compared to most others a weakling though he is often portrayed as being very scheming and political. There are quite a few plotholes along the way but the overall story is about a... more>> schemer who is fairly weak and doesn't have much of a prospect at growing stronger. He also seems to have a special talent for turning women into nutjobs who eventually become yandere towards him.

(Some spoilers on how it happened and the first two heroines/yanderes)

Spoiler

For instance the first heroine introduced is one who is destined to become pretty much the most powerful wizard in the world their at. However she's weak mentally, scared and has abandoment issues. So how does the MC decide to make her lean on him? Why by making everyone else in the camp bully her and treat her like dirt until she becomes mentally unstable with only him being her light in the darkness. This backfires on the MC since with everything happening and how everyone treats her she cracks and becomes full yandere for the MC.

Next he meets a woman who has dedicated her life to helping and assisting the poor and less fortunate that live in the slums of the city their stationed at. In a single day he manages to twist her belief from helping the poor into removing the tr*sh of society which she does by torturing and killing people she and the MC deem to be the dregs of society to better the world for everyone

[collapse]

The one thing I dislike which is often the case in these stories where the MC is displayed as someone smarter or at least more knowledgable of the social interaction between people. Is that everyone else is often portrayed as being just plain s*upid. I sometime wonder if this is a problem with the authors themselves that they simply can't think up of better scenarios or whatnot but sometimes it just get's to the point like, oh well any normal person would be able to come up with that, and there are a ton of ways of countering or preventing that kind of plan or forced logic but somehow no one is able to think of it so therefore the MC is the smartest. I just find it hard sometimes to swallow that for the MC to appear intelligent everyone else needs to be braindead.

Outside of that for the first 100ish chapter that I've read the story is mostly focused on character developments and day to day life in this new world their in.

The writting is overall good and I sort of like how the MC is more of a villain then a hero though there are quite a few parts that feels a bit forced it is a pretty enjoyable read. <<less

Great web novel. Not a literary masterpiece, just an ordinary great web novel. It stands in between Overlord (JP) and Reincarnator (KR) in terms of experience for me, of course not succeeding to truly tackle either of them which is a real bummer.

Can't not mention the translators... the pace is real, guys truly make a history here in terms of making a translation. Current reality places translator into kinda Vice-Author position with release schedule differing not much from author's, while this team truly embraces their identity as a translators and... more>> does the deed.

I do believe that they currently still in stage of feeling out their limits, and the limits of our pockets. Hope all the good for them. <<less

Interesting novel, a change of pace for the regressor concept (the regressor isn't the protagonist) seen by me only in one novel till now (I forgot the name but it's a fairly well know novel). The character progression is good, it's more focused on strategy rather than fighting which will probably make some ppl that were attracted to try this novel out for the fighting scenes stop reading (regressor tropes are usually full of fighting scenes afterall...), but it's worth a read for those who aren't only interested in combat.

If you take a look at all the "popular novel", you'll see that they all follow a similar premise. For Korean novels in particular, the theme is typically either dungeon or regression. But despite this novel's title being "regressor isntruction manual", the protagonist of the story is actually someone that's close to the regressor and not the regressor himself. With the protagonist being someone rather powerless and not brokely op like every other stories, this novel is quite a fresh read to pick up.

Tiny spoiler in regards to other people's... more>> dislike

Spoiler

A lot of people that complain about how there's plot armor or the plan always work out in MC's favor. For one thing, that can be applied to pretty much every novel out there. I think the appeal of this story lies more with how the protagonist deal with the information he has and how it plays out and the absurdity of some of the situations rather than novels that draws appeal from intensity of confrontations or uncertainty of what's next.
