I rate this novel a 3.5. Surprisingly, it was rather interesting and I found the approach of "amnesia" in this story very unique, new, and rather refreshing. I started this novel for the main couple and I read till the end for them as well. I love the fact that

MC used to be a terrible person but is now truly to change as well as the fact that ML isn't the average bl scumbag.

However, I really don't like the second couple. Everything about them screams red-flag and all the concerning warnings in this book are likewise for them. For me, I just read the spoilers and skipped the second couple moments. I don't recommend going through them. <<less

The main couple has enough plot to keep me curious. Plus, hot diggity the amount of papapa. It's my first, and probably the last, time writing a review because you guys should know:

SIDE COUPLE FAIR WARNING: TOXIC AND UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP. DISTURBING, DISTURBING, DISTURBING. Important things must be said 3 times!

The side couple is the shou's older brother (Cheng Xi) by 15 years and the shou's old... friend (Yan Qi, same age as shou) before growing up. Now, let me tell you, YQ is obsessive and manipulative. ... more>>
Spoiler

He confessed to CX and when it was not accepted, he tried to r*pe him some time in the future. He failed again since he was caught, but at that moment CX defended YQ (hello??? just no). Then upon the bankruptcy of the Cheng family, it turns out YQ planned all of it. He was going to save the Cheng family and in exchange he wanted CX's hand in marriage. But, lo and behold, IT FAILED AGAIN. CX needed money asap, and so he signed up in the s*x industry, was discovered by YQ, and then YQ signed a contract with CX making him his exclusive worker (AKA s*x s*ave 24/7). LET ME TELL YOU, YQ DOES EVERYTHING CX DON'T LIKE, including inserting 40+ beads (mind you, beads that CX treasured a lot) in his anus. So, yes. Fair warning because their story takes up a large portion of the later chapters. YES I SKIMMED THROUGH ALL OF IT BECAUSE I WANTED TO KNOW WHY CX DIDN'T RETURN THE BEADS TO HIS BELOVED BROTHER. I REGRET EVERY MOMENT SPENT READING IT. cough cough basically cx was r*ped multiple times by yq and I don't understand why he thinks that's okay and how he will fall in love with yq despite that

I can go on a whole rant but all I'm gonna say this story is the equivalent of tears with no payoff. At least, for me anyway. I didn't feel a lick of happiness at both of the couples endings. Plus, the relationships are super f*cking toxic. Especially, the side couple. Its literally the r*pe victim getting together with his rapist. Like f*cking seriously, this is 2021. I thought we got past romanticizing the rapists. I was already feeling pretty bad about the main couple (like a 50 out of... more>> 100) but that was just the nail in the coffin for me.

Granted, it has its good points. But will I change my rating? Would I read it again?

This stories main couple was was ok. Not the most healthy of relationships but I can see them working it out just fine. What I don’t understand is how people are only taking one star away from the story for how bad the side couple is. That was a toxic relationship at best and disgusting at worse. The side couple take up about half of the novel as well. I don’t care if people believe that the gong made up for it with his sacrifice. He didn’t. He may have... more>> cared for the MCs brother but one sacrifice doesn’t make up for all the other stuff he did, no matter if the MCs brother “love’s” him. If you’re willing to skip or skim half the novel just to get to the main couple, then go right ahead but prepare for a painful and uncomfortable side couple.
Spoiler

Also, the main couple end up tattooing something like s**tty bit*h on the MC and that’s something you only see in shitty hentai so it gave me a bad taste in my mouth since I felt it was too tr*shy to do to someone you say you love. Not sure if this is actually the case since I read a cleaned mtl but thought people should know

I actually really, really loved this book even though I usually cannot deal with mpreg. The Shou in this case is so very traditionally female that I had no trouble accepting his ability to get pregnant. It also helped that the author was specific about the biological mechanics of how the "New Females" could get pregnant.

The protagonist (the Shou) is a very relatable character who made grave mistakes in the past but who is trying his best to redeem himself. It was really great to watch him stand on his... more>> own two feet, start to take ownership of his mistakes, and muster up the courage to make amends.

The Gong is also a really good man, though there are times I really wanted to smack him for being terrible at communicating his feelings.
Spoiler

This happened mainly when he was in his main personality, not his secondary pesonality.

[collapse]

There are parts that are real tear jerkers too.
Spoiler

Like when the second personality was about to disappear! I cried buckets at that one.

[collapse]

There is a lot (and I mean A LOT) of smut in this book, but the smut has a point, it's not smut for the sake of smut. It shows how different the Gong's 2 split personalities are, and how he really tried to mesh them together for the Shou's sake.

The secondary couple's story wasn't as great as the main couple's story, it's the usual "abusive in front but sweet at the back" trope that I'm not a fan of.

Spoiler

I did respect that the Shou in the secondary couple held firm in leaving the Gong instead of doing the Stockholm Syndrome thing. It was only after the Gong made a a HUGE sacrifice (I mean, he got hit by a falling rock and lost the use of his legs) for the Shou. Also, the Gong tried very hard to change his possessive ways and succeeded in the end, so I did ship this couple in the end. I also didn't feel that the Gong was all that bad in trying to come up with a plan to screw up the Shou's financial plans for the company. He didn't plan to make the Shou's family completely go under - that was something completely unexpected, and I didn't have strong feelings about this part.

[collapse]

I loved the ending, I loved that there was a bit of science fiction and human rights issues thrown in there, and also had some Black Mirror type elements (cause it's a futuristic setting in which everything is watched by the government, though not in a sinister way). It was a really good read! One of the books I would read again. <<less

So when are they gonna divorce? Will it even happen? The MC is fickle-minded and I hate that about him. Just because the ML had an anmesia, you’ll take advantage of the situation and not go through with the divorce application? He could have started it, explain to ML what has transpired over the years and draw the line — he could have said — you have amnesia and I’ll take care of you until you regain your memory then we’ll go on our separate way after that — see,... more>> it’s that easy. I’ll drop this one, it’d be best to go look for a spin-off (or similar novel) of this one where they actually divorced for good and never look back/got back together — that’s just how I want this story to end — well what to do, i’m a sucker for this kind of ending. <<less

The story was okay. Kinda cliche plot about misunderstandings but it didn't lack smut.|*^*|

MC was cute & precious, but still a little bit silly & naive. Well, can't blame him for his past behavior cause he grew up spoiled & protected. ML's behavior in the past was justified, but when he wanted to get along well with MC later, couldn't cause at that point there relationship already turned awkward with lack of communication. But it definitely became sweet later to the point it could melt the heart. The smut was... more>> hot!! இ﹏இ

But the secondary couple's progress wasn't something I was hoping for. MC's brother deserved a lot better but not that piece of sh*t. (╯=▃=) ╯ I thought in extras, at least that sh*t would become a better person when trying to change, but no.... a piece of sh*t remains a piece of sh*t. That sh*t didn't even know what consent was, just always in heat like a dog. He was obsessive to point that he didn't hesitate to break the person he said he loved. He shouldn't have been forgiven that easily. Didn't feel any pity for him!!( ̄ー ̄)

Can give it a shot.... the Main couple will heal your heart when it is tron by the secondary couple. |~_~| <<less

Our MC grew up as a spoiled rotten rich boy who forced ML's hand in marriage. Road-to-redemption is not easy and we see it first-hand from MC's POV.

ML (prior to amnesia) is your typical ice block who doesn't know how to communicate until maybe around chapter 95. But man I kinda fell in love with amnesiac ML and their s*x scenes are hot hot hot 🔥.

after he got his memories back and they have their deep conversation, u really cant hate the ML. He is originally a stiff and awkward person, he knows MC is changing and he wanted to fix their relationship but I guess he doesnt know how to fukin talk with MC. He doesnt has any affairs, no side bit*h which attached themselves for being too nice, doesnt have any yandere with killing spree tendencies. so as far as hurt/comfort goes this -was- beyond my expectations. Unhealthy relationships filled with hurt, confusion and overall despair really gets me going... at times. The other couple was completely unnecessary and wasn't done well AT ALL. I, am not sensitive to non-con or yandere love interest usually, Firm believer in fiction is fiction, and shouldn't always bend to the standards of realistic morality. However when it was written so distastefully, there was really no reason to portray it as romantic at all. It didn't match the other stories... more>> overall vibe and just felt tasking to even skim through. In most stories with such sensitive content, if the character can't change their relationship imbalance don't mark it as a romance. Pretty simple change that allows readers to know what they're handling so people don't get pissed off. On to the main story problems

Spoiler

To me, the ending was very unsatisfactory and felt like ML got two fresh green hats added to him. The ending when they just fused felt like a cop out. How in reality are they going to let, what in essence a mental illness thats highly complicated go unchecked? lets be real. this was like a weird ass harem. Two dudes one d**k, who meshed into one dude because the author couldn't properly say goodbye to one of them. The ending also didn't match either of their personalities. Lets just write 2 crazily possessive men, and have them fuse, even though they kept getting depressed over the mention of the other. Great. Sounds like an opening for a late term mental illness to develop. I also feel bad for the original ML, who was cold. He seemed to be greatly struggling with accepting being forced into a marriage, only to be later constantly told he was a jerk for just adapting to the circumstance in a way he tried to deal with it. The other personality never experienced that hardship and just enjoyed ramming MC when he was already changed. Still his fault that he handled it that way, but in essence he was cheated on and constantly reminded that the other person was still always going to be there. I felt like the second personality ruined their marriage, and forcefully changed him completely. Would have been better to be divorced than someone constantly missing and wanting another person. It be one thing if his other personality was still him, but another part of himself instead of being someone else. Instead we. the readers never really got to know the cold ML, and it kinda broke my heart for him hearing how he felt towards the end only to see that he ended up disappearing.

pretty good, easy to mtl. If you're particularly sensitive to abusive and toxic relationships, this one won't be for you. There's a lot of angst and a lot of dog food at the same time with the main couple which I enjoyed.
Spoiler

there was a weird thing where you find out that ML was always physically attracted to MC but was super cold and mean to him because he was a spoiled brat, but he described it as MC not being worthy of his kindness, which I thought was a kind of iffy way to go about the relationship, but MC was a piece of garbage when he was younger and it could have totally been a MTL thing where the nuance of the sentence was lost

[collapse]

side cp with mc's brother is awful because that ML is a slag piece of dog poop. There was a chunk of like 5-10 chapters detailing their background that I straight up skipped because their relationship was straight up abuse and manipulation and I wasn't interested.
Spoiler

karma gets the side cp ML in the extras and his legs get crushed in an earthquake to save MC's brother, and he does seem to change slightly for the better after a bunch of plot shenanigans but personally it just wasn't enough to justify all of the humiliation and abuse he put the brother through

Read through MTL. MTL was fine.

I personally loved this one. It was angsty and I cried through the whole thing. I liked the ending. I did hate the side couple, and if they had been more integrated into the story it would have went from 5 to 3; however, the author marked the chapters dealing with their relationships and it was totally skippable without affecting the main story. And I did skip them. My review is based on the fact that the side couple doesn’t exist.

Spoiler

MC was a spoilt rich brat who blackmailed ML into marrying him; ML promptly leaves the planet and spends as little time as possible with him. Like literally after 7 years of marriage they have spent 5 months together. Oh but they have s*x, which from the way it’s described is pretty shitty for MC. MC does change for the better (all offscreen since this happened prior to the book starting) but ML never seemed to notice. MC finally decides to divorce ML since ML obviously hates him (and he thinks that’s what ML wants). At the divorce office he is told he will be deported if they get divorced, he hesitates and decides to talk to his family first. And that’s when ML has amnesia.

MC doesn’t say anything about their relationship troubles, but ML does figure it out on his own. Turns out ML doesn’t have amnesia but a secondary personality because of ~hand wavey human experimentation/poison~. Plot plot plot angst. Eventually after ML gets his memory back, MC divorcing and running away, MC finds out that ML had actually noticed that MC had changed for the better and had wanted to try again. Cue happy ending. Also there’s a pregnancy.

[collapse]

Honestly, I feel like both the MC and ML were kind of shitty people at different times. Absolutely this would be kind of toxic IRL. But this is fiction and exactly the kind of fiction I love to read, so it was great.

On top of that, despite the weird science other places, the way male pregnancy works seems pretty good. Not ABO, not inter**x. Basically a cloaca.

Lots of papapa if that’s what you’re into, including things rarely seen in danmei such as lube, proper cleaning (though in a sci-fi way), stretching, and c*ndoms. <<less

One of the best danmei novel I've ever read so far. It has the right balance of angst and plot. It's not like those kind of stories that just over flooding you with too much angst or over dragging the side plot.

It's one of the stories that will not dissapoint you with every talkbacks of the characters. It's reasonable, bullseye and accurate to what you wanna meant at the same time.

Spoiler

One of my favorite scene is the night of the confrontation like maaann, that's so right give him a piece of you. When Cheng Jin say "Because you don't love me!" It surprises me but make me smile seriously. Go for it!

[collapse]

The MTL is so good, I don't think translating it would be much needed. I don't know if it's because how the author write it that it became easy for Google to translate it. Idk.

All in all, this is one of the stories that never go ashtray, it's reasonable. It's not like one of angst stories out there that will over flood you with too much angst it's so heart burning and the repentance part of the MF will not amount to all your heartaches and while you don't get over the heartaches easily I can't believe the victim will just go and forgive everything (esp. If the MF suddenly sacrifice a piece of him, like duuhh).

And everything is so balance to the character's decisions, the consequences and their further actions. Everything is so right to the brim. Justice. <<less

Rereading it now, I completely understand why I deliberately forgot everything about this novel even if I first read it right when it first launched on CG.

It's because I can't f*cking stand Yan Qi!
Spoiler

What a P.O.S. I really hoped he would die, actually, or at least be punished more, because the way he acted towards CX was way too hateful before. Why not be a decent person and not throw the one you claim to love into the worst times of their life? Obviously you should hope the "love of your life" is happy and healthy, but he just treated CX as a toy and a s*x s*ave his whole life and then, because suddenly a damn rock falls in him, he can get away completely scooting free with

1. Raping CX,

2. Making the Cheng family bankrupt and sending them straight into their worst times and misery,

3. Forcing CX to prostitute himself to him,

4. F*cking desecrating the only thing CX held dear in all his losses because he couldn't stand that the target of his obsession loved HIS OWN f*ckING BROTHER! (Why the hell would you think you would be loved after f*cking insulting CJ at every single turning and raping CX with CJ's most precious treasure which CX was holding dear and holding on for dear life? What the f*ck?),

and 5. Being a crazy f*cking lunatic who couldn't wait to completely break CX's will and esteem until he became nothing but a s*x toy to him, unable to be or do anything without being mercilessly broken again!

I can stand and even like paranoid, possessive relationships in fiction, but not when THE AUTHOR IS OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO PRETEND IT'S SWEET! IT'S NOT! Author could just as well written a psychological BE novel with only their plot, changing exactly nothing, and be successful! Because it's that level of f*cked up!

[collapse]

I also believe Lu Tao could have suffered more because he was extremely cruel and emotionally abusive this whole 7 years of marriage, but whatever. Yan Qi is just too f*cking hateful. (And still, the novel is quite good. Damn it.)

Enjoyed the translation so far, thank you for the hard work!

I'm disappointed to hear that Yan Qi sticks around. Not looking forward to that. He seems to genuinely enjoy his "lover"s misery and loss and is honestly just constantly violently raping him after scheming to ruin his family's lives. NOTHING ELSE. Like zero affection at all, even of the poorly communicated sort. I don't buy that he cares at all about him. And unlike, say, Before My Withering, there's no sense of repentance or satisfaction that he comes to understand... more>> his failures which would make me root for them. Where's the face slapping? Waiting to read when more is translated, but based on other reviews I'm not optimistic.

However, I have to disagree with some people about Lu Tao. I think his early hatred is COMPLETELY justified. This scheming brat crippled his only living family, and violently alienated the people around him, that's pretty fair reasoning to resent someone even if you are attracted to them. That said, I really appreciate the level of humility and repentance we see from Jingjing, and I'm really proud that he honed skills and discovered talents, as well as becoming a better person. His thirst is a little boring, I get the author was trying to mix the s*x scenes up a little but it still felt a little dull to me. Still worth reading if you want some papapa. I was surprised to see the dirty talk, somehow I feel like that's less common in danmei. <<less
