I actually read the manhwa 1st then continued reading the novel raws.

Fair warning to many that this novel is filled with red flags everywhere. Lotsa toxic relationship here.

I wonder if I was the only one who was super sad over ... more>>
Spoiler

the 2nd personality. Although in the end, it was revealed that they combined the main and 2nd personality. But I still cried buckets over them "killing him off". Was even sadder to see that MC still liked his cold and mentally abusive main personality husband compared to the sweet loving caring 2nd personality. Each to their own I guess.

[collapse]

Main couple has lots of their own red flags ofc, both are flawed characters but I didnt like how
Spoiler

ML still treated him coldly even after seeing MC change for the better just coz he was busy with work, wow. Frequent video calls would suffice, excuses. 🙄

[collapse]

But the 2nd couple is wow, riddled with red flags left and right.
Spoiler

The gong is definitely a real yandere in the dark sense. Not those cute fluffy kind. Yikes.

[collapse]

But overall, I still enjoyed the manhwa and novel. Love some angst that can make me cry buckets 🥲 <<less

Liked the story a lot, there was angst with healing so I'm satisfied. Also, I loved how Cheng Jin changed over the years.

Spoiler

I took 1 star because the secundary couple do end up together, when I was hoping Cheng Xu would leave Yan Qi, since the latter is a rapist and a 100% manipulative a**hole. Unfortunately, Cheng Xu has a soft heart. In short, this couple is based on: pity and s*x. Without this 2, they wouldnt be together. Now, do you think a real couple base their relationship on that? No, its based on love, not manipulations.

If the author made Yan Qi suffer for what he did and made him live without Cheng Xu, I would have given this story 5 stars. Alas, it's difficult to find a BL story that doesn't romantize r*pe when it happens.

EDIT: Revised review after completing the novel:

I was hooked until the end, the plot twist was an interesting addition that also gave some pretty good angst, but the resolution and the gong's original attitude to the MC should have been better developed. I understood the idea that the gong's feelings changed, but it annoyed me that he just chose to keep acting cold to the MC when he actually liked him - angst and misunderstandings for shallow plot reasons. The last part of the novel was not as strong or... more>> well-written as the beginning.

I didn't mind the side-CP - yes, the SML was toxic, but that was kind of the point, it was a nice little wife chasing in the crematorium side plot and it made sense that the MC's brother would take him back after sufficient grovelling and sacrificing himself for him. It's a dogblood story, so don't know what people expect - certainly you shouldn't expect something completely wholesome and healthy. But again, should have been more fleshed out to be really good.

The whole novel is more a 4 start than 5 star book - still a pretty good read overall.

By chapter 29:

So far it's pretty good. Not sure yet if the whole novel is really worth 5 stars, but haven't found any flaws yet. The characters and setting are relatively intriguing, and the plot makes me curious about what happens next. So far, the MC is pitiful, but he doesn't wallow in self-pity and is aware that he brought the situation on himself. But even if he was a spoiled brat and did bad things to others in the past - both the ML who he forced to marry him and hurt his grandmother, and other people who he bullied - he's had to learn his lesson the hard way and he knows that he was in the wrong. He loves his husband and his family, especially his love for his older brother and his father is very self-less and forces him to grow up and change for the better. This makes him a compelling character. Also he's talented and works hard, but not in a Mary Sue way even though there's a slight Cinderella feel to him they way he gets treated. The ML so far is interesting too - at this point we only see him when he's gotten amnesia, where he's nice, attentive, and a super h**ny vinegar jar. Seriously, this has got to be the horniest gong I've encountered so far. It's a bit funny how he's jealous of everyone that prevents the MC from giving him his undivided attention (but at this point it's not toxic, just maybe slightly exaggerated) and ready to get down and dirty with the MC at any time. Also the ML isn't s*upid - he knows already that his relationship with the MC previously wasn't good, but he seems to have fallen for the MC at first sight, and believing himself lucky to wake up and be married to such as hot 'wife', he doesn't want the good times to end. I'm guessing that the ML pre-amnesia didn't actually hate the MC, but treated him coldly because he hated what the MC did. It becomes clear that even though he's lost his memories, he retains the emotions of his old self. The people he disliked before, he still dislikes, but his feelings towards the MC is just infatuation. So I'm guessing he was in love with the MC before losing his memory, but for some reason didn't want to fix the relationship. Only thing I don't get is why did he reject the MC originally, but hopefully the author will address this later. I'm curious about the side couple. There's clearly something wrong with them, but Yan Qi is kind of intriguing too.
Spoiler

The MC has already revealed that the teenage Yan Qi was in love and got rejected, which broke his heart. Obviously the object of affection was the MC's older brother, who now seems to be in a not very healthy relationship with Yan Qi. Is Yan Qi behing the Cheng family's misfortune? He strikes me as the person who would do everything to get the person he loves - and also someone who loves in a very twisted way.

[collapse]

What I like so far is that the story is logical and the characters aren't s*upid. Their actions make sense, so while it's a dog blood plot, it's well-written. Also this novel has a lot of smut. Really a lot. So don't read if you dislike smut - it's almost every second chapter. Raws are on Haitang, but I hope the translators continue, it seems like a good story. <<less

I love this although the papa seemed like a brainless p*rn story, shockingly the plot is acceptable. The main story is good. I like it not much comments. However I think the side story that make people rate this novel so low. Because the side story (mc's elder brother love story) is like r*pe become lover. Not suit much my taste especially when the gong is like seriously neurotic man. Luckily the main story is so sweet and healing although it take time for their relationship to be better. I... more>> want to see their child story😐. <<less

Honestly, I was worried about the memory loss thing because I thought it would be messy after ML regains back his memories. It all turned out fine. You'll love reading this. There's alot of smut too but neither repetitive nor excessive. This was the first chinese novel I've read. Also, I like the ML. Both MC and ML are cute, they made me into a happy single dog !!

Ps. The novel is better than the manhua but the manhua has extra stories that don't exist in the novel huhuhu

At first I thought the main couple deserve their own happiness. I don't know how to describe the pain each of them has in their marriage but seriously I'm really rooting for the divorce.

But somehow by the time the causing of ML amnesia has revealed, it make me feel so much pain for our MC even though I know it was his fault from the very beginning, but at least MC is changing.

Every time MC recaps all their past, I'm in tears because I know MC has no way to... more>> show his love while ML don't know how to react because of their past. This thing make me really wish they will separate because the divorce at least can make MC get out from being stress out.

For the end part of our main couple story, all I want to say is I want ML to show more of his love so the MC won't feel insecure. After all, both of them need to always communicates with each other since no one can read other people minds.

For the side couple, I have no words to describe their relationship because yes, it is very toxic. But still I can understand the worry that YanQi has towards Brother Cheng.

Overall, it is a good story which I can understand the struggles that they live in. The pain that each of them has cause in their relationship, I won't say it easy for them to really make up even in real life it really hard, but time can heal as long as the chances is given and not been taken for granted.

Finally, this story is not that light nor it heavy. It's indeed make you cry but at the end it teach you how you need to buckle up and face all the things that you had done in the past because only by facing them you can move on and get to live on the right track. <<less

The main couple seems to have a lack of communication which I thought is on the right track for divorce. No matter if the male lead feel attracted to the MC or not but 7 yrs of being cold to MC is not justified. Especially the things the male lead did was just too cold. He doesn't show any affection only until his 2nd personality appeared. Its quite a torture for the MC. I'm not sure how is it okay since over the course of 7 yrs, the MC would... more>> just think the male lead hates him. Funny is that the male lead thinks MC deserved a second chance. I think they both suffered. <<less

I started reading this for the angst because I like to feed my depression sometimes.

Generally, the novel did fulfill my needs, even if there were a few factors that wasn't my cup of tea. Before this novel I read one where the MC is the kind that I dislike, holy mother, clumsy, naive and cute with low IQ and EQ, Gary Stu and loved by all, basically a huge flower vase whose only merit is his face.

Although, the MC here is a bit similar in the aspects of naivity, low... more>> EQ and IQ, he did not irritate me as much as he has shown a good amount of character growth compared to his past self that was an indulgent selfish prick. He is also hard-working and not just a spoiled child as his circumstances had forced him to grow up to an extent. His IQ and EQ still stay low, though and his naivity is difficult to change at this point as he is the product of his environment, having grown up sheltered and spoilt. Even at his lowest point he still had his family around to shelter him from the harsh reality. So his growth opportunities were limited.

The ML... I also feel a bit conflicted about him. The second personality is good, no complaints there. He is loving and knows how to express his emotions properly. It's the main personality that I don't know about. While it is understandable that he did not like the actions of the past MC that was selfish and down right bullying he did admit that he had changed his opinion about the MC at some point. But his emotional neglect that borders on emotional abuse did not stop until his second personality surfaced. Only after fusing with the second personality did he finally start changing and expressing his emotions a bit more.

I don't know what Chinese authors have with MLs who are emotional abusive and have facial paralysis. Either way, the MC here is so beaten down at this point, he would take anything the ML gave him. He is that desperate. If it was me, I would have kicked the dude to the curb long ago instead of suffering for seven whole years.

Another thing I don't know how to feel about is the side couple. I don't particularly like them and skimmed their part most of the time. They unexpectedly have a very big part/presence and take up a lot of chapters compared to what I am used to from other novels' side couples. Either way, they are a yandere and a closet masochist (he must be one since he actually ended up falling for such a lunatic who had r*ped and humiliated him so much, even caused his family's downfall) pair. Far from my preferences. <<less

Okay so I finished this on mtl so I can't comment anything about the writing style, etc. The thoughts were conveyed well enough through the unstructured sentences and most nuance is understood so if there's anyone looking for a sign to read it mtl, this is it.

I was drawn to this novel because of the plot. Bad marriage + amnesia = drama. Yep, sign me the f*** up. I like these types of stories where there is trouble between the husband and the husband and as the story goes, you... more>> see them sort out their differences and figure out how they fit together for the rest of their lives and to their eventual happy ever after (yeah, not me projecting coming from a broken family oop). This story makes it blend so well because there are elements in the story that make this scenario plausible and the
Spoiler

cure for the amnesia, too.

[collapse]

The Beginning:
Spoiler

It will be a little messy at the start when the author starts to world build and I'm not sure if it's from mtl but some world elements are a bit weird. Though you eventually get used to the terms, the current state of the marriage is explained clearly and is actually quite sad for our Xiao Jin, even if some of his misfortune is due to the bad things he'd done in the past.

[collapse]

The Setting and the Conflict:
Spoiler

So the husband gets amnesia and gains a second personality that falls in love with Cheng Jin. It's basically their second honeymoon and because of the super amount of dog food, Cheng Jin falls in love with this version of his husband that is clearly devoted to him, a complete opposite to the original Lu Tao (husband). But remember, this new guy is just temporary and as months pass, the original peeks through the second personality. Cheng Jin somehow figures as soon as this second personality is gone, his original unloving husband will return so it's best he continues with the divorce and release his husband from their marriage.

[collapse]

The Ending:
Spoiler

It's HE duh so of course they're happy. There will be a little plot happening in the background which doesn't really affect their love story very much. Both of them will actually stay together as a couple and actually try to make their marriage work.

[collapse]

So why is this not a 5 star? I didn't like the side pairing.
Spoiler

It has noncon and blackmail and while the gong will try to make up for his shitty deeds, I think that the author could've better developed their ending as there wasn't much scenes to show how the gong redeemed himself.

Going back to re-read this novel.

I still love the MC, he is not powerful, trying his best to be a better person. In a good word, he is very naive, in a blunt way he is quite s*upid haha. I think his upbringing make him view the world positively even though he already faced rejection and being letting down. He is persistent and has positive expectations. But, after being letting down again and again he force himself to be 'realistic' and become pessimistic in the latter chapters in his relationship... more>> with ML. Though, it isn't long before he become happy again.

Idk if there are similar novel to this one. But, I especially like this one because the MC is really your typical "villain" or "cannon fodder" that transmigrator will be transmigrated into in those quick transmigration or villain/cannon fodder counter attack troupe. What I like about this novel is that the one who "redeem" themselves is really the MC, not another soul or transmigrator. He realise his mistakes, take responsibility of what he has done in the past, and trying to better himself. I really appreciate it.

Or he might be the s*upidly obsessive cannon fodder/villain that get in the way of MC and ML's relationship lol 😂 I think he might be if his family didn't going bankrupt. Though, seems unlikely tho because MC is slowly changing for the better even before his family going bankrupt.

Spoiler

Btw, the ML actually likes MC when they met, but lost his good feeling after MC forced their relationship. After he saw the changes in MC behaviours, he wants to repair their relationship. ML rejects MC at first is because he doesn't want to drag MC down because of his conditions at that time, he wants to be with MV when his conditions are better. Alas, the MC is just pampered second-generation at that time and couldn't take rejection.

This fact make me thinking that their story could entirely be different if MC doesn't forced his way into ML's. But oh well, this experience makes MC a much better person, so...

[collapse]

Btw, about the second couple, after reading the full text, I don't think it was that bad, it just unexpectedly quite dog-blood when compared to the main couple haha. Though, I think Cheng Xu is quite miserable. Like he force himself to bear responsibility and sacrifice as much as he can.

My previous review:

Spoiler

I ended up mtl-ed this but I enjoyed this so much, only for the main couple's story tho hehe.

The MC is cute and relatable. I mean, if you were someone who was spoiled so much that took everything for granted, his past-self is quite understandable. Then, after he is down, he become unsure of what to do, indecisive, and have a little bit of inferiority complex. He is a positive person that turn to become someone who thought for the worse because his expectations were not met again and again. And I have to thank the author for writing our MC to be lovable rather than annoying with this type of personality. He is strong-willed as well as working hard. He try to do his best, comes to accept what he have, and become a better person.

I agree with what other reviewers said that MC's older brother story is a little bit... well it's not my favourite here. Although, I have to say that usually I don't mind reading those kinds of plot, but in here I... am a lil bit bothered haha. Tbh, I skipped some of the older brother's story. I'm just gonna read it when the translation is completed.

[collapse]

Lastly, thank you for the translator for your hard work :) <<less

Spoiler

The second cp! I hate the ML and I felt really sorry for mc's brother. All I can say is that the second ML is crazy.

I don't usually give reviews unless necessary and when I feel like it lol.

I started reading this for the angst and mpreg. To say that I like this type of genre is also true. The MC was a bit naive and even after those years of silent treatment and emotional abuse, he seemed to have only improved in terms of his general attitude. He's a very good person after his repentance but just a little bit impulsive which is normal. It was a good read in my opinion but if... more>> you don't like a problematic relationship (which has been resolved btw) you can just skip this story or might as well read the manhua as it seems more bearable in the psychological and s*xual aspect.

My favorite character is Asher/Ai Xue. He only has a few appearances but he got my heart so I always look forward to it whenever he appears lol. ML IS FINE (THE REAL ONE WITHOUT THE 2ND PERSONALITY) BUT CAN EASILY BE MISUNDERSTOOD BECAUSE OF MISCOMMUNICATION.

Spoiler

Yan Qi should have been punished more. I don't wish for him to be in danger or meet a miserable fate but I want him to realize that coercion and possessiveness is not the only way for him to express his love for CX. As I was reading the extra, I had a little hope he could save himself from the pit of being such a person. There were improvements, this is already clear but not enough to prove that what he feels is really sincere. He loves CX sincerely yes but what I meant here is the sincerity of how much effort and sacrifices he could give to prove that he won't hurt CX again.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I couldn't blame CX for accepting YQ again. After all, I was not him. If he sees his sincerity, then it's fine as long as CX wants it. He's very sensible and intelligent so I know that he won't let YQ abuse him again. Now I hope that they could start over again (which is what are they doing rn) and live a happy life along with the main protagonists.

Very fresh for me. I'm not a fan of misunderstanding route, but this one, I can. It's not too bloody drama and a lot of smut than I thought. But still, I feel annoying for the characters. MC is too s*upid and innocent, the ML is too cold. But that setting is needed to make the misunderstanding scene a Lil bit complicated. I feel sorry for mc's brother. I think his story is more bloody than the main cp.

A novel inspired me to write a review because holy sh*t.. (Contains spoilers)

I give two stars purely for the main couple storyline, it was done pretty well with the mix of romance, angst, and smut. Really liked the emotional development from the start leading up to the end. Both MC and ML had their flaws. Both made mistakes and they worked it out. Though the relationship between MC and two personalities was a kinda weird, it was within the acceptable range of novel rationale.

The side couple though,

Spoiler

I'd admit first that I have high tolerant for bad and wrong things being done in novels, including manipulation, coercion, and abuse. But this sh*t was on a whole another level. I skimmed past the side couple story honestly because it was so revolting. I'm still fuming as I'm writing this review. That YQ deserved absolutely nothing but the worst. What the brother had was nothing short of a very very bad case of Stockholm Syndrome. YQ r*ped, cornered the brother to the point of destroying a family, almost drove his father to su*cide, repeatedly abused, r*ped, stripped him off everything and broke his mind to the point I'm surprised the brother hadn't gone insane. Even at the end YQ still hadn't had a hint of reflection of his horrendous acts, he only realised the past strategy didn't work so he was now trying a new way. It's so f*cked up even for web novel standards. Depleted almost all the impression I had in reading the story.

This is one of the stories that you don't like but can help reread (except for the side couple, I skipped them) I thought amnesia ML and MC were the best part of this novel but I didn't like anything else (except the part where they go to a different planet and start their own business and such I like that part) I'll reread it but I won't ever like it I thought the ending s**ked and I find it s*upid how sharing finances means that they can be... more>> together or something I just found it s*upid but I enjoyed the beginning and middle part of it <<less
