Tao Xi knew the fate of being deliberately exchanged at birth by his “mother” in the third year of middle school. He lived in daze, until he saw Lin Qinhe of Wenhua No.1 High School, a prestigious school thousands of kilometers away, on the remote live broadcast screen of a high school in a poverty-stricken county.

It was him who lived in the bottom of the well, and for the first time, he caught a glimpse of the moon in the sky.

But when he exhausted all his energy to climb out of the well and waded towards the moon, he found that the star beside the moon should have been his position.

Tao Xi wanted Lin Qinhe, along with the love he lost.

I hate this novel so much. Because of the high ratings I wanted to give this piece of tr*sh a chance but MC was not for me. Childish, temperamental, cringey, entitled and desperate. I hate him with a passion. Now I get he's he's supposed to be like a tragic character with a tragic backstory or whatever, but this doesn't work for me at all. Even if he has a tragic backstory if his personality is sh*t I'll hate him.

One of the reasons why I don't like him is his... more>> excessive jealousy over a SICK PERSON.

Spoiler

Like I get you guys have been swapped when you were born but wtf dude what's wrong with you? It's not HIS fault that he's living a good life like that what's up with the excessive hatred for him? Especially the hospital scene when he was f*cking acting like the victim (which I guess I get he's crying because they're his family and they're crying over someone else but dude?) when the other guy was crying from pain because of his sickness (and tbh that's the last chapter I read because I couldn't take MC's personality anymore). Like it was so out of pocket when he decided to just go visit the hospital to continue their date when THE OTHER GUY WAS IN PAIN BECAUSE OF HIS SICKNESS. And it just pains me to see from the spoilers that in the end the author, to obviously get us on the MC's side, turned this little guy into a villain. I mean who wouldn't end up like that after everything? This is like a transmigration novel where the MC is the guy with the sickness and the villain is the white lotus who hates the f*ck out of him for something he's NOT EVEN AWARE OF. And again I know MC is hurt and I know it must be painful to watch someone take the life that you were supposed to live, but it's also not his f*cking fault. And being 16 or whatever the f*ck his age is doesn't excuse this either, when I was 12 I was smarter than him.

[collapse]

Anyways overall I just hate it. The only character I like is the ML and his sick bestie (i don't remember any of their names). I'm raging rn while typing this my hands are shaking.

There are so many other reasons while I hate this, a lot of it is because of the characters and their logic.

So more about me is that I like a novel BECAUSE of the characters, since the story revolves around them. If the characters are bad and I hate them then I hate the novel but if the characters are good and I like them then I'll like the novel. <<less

Dropped

Hmm, think I won't continue. I find the MC a bit annoying for me? He was all earnest about studying and getting out of poverty but actually he just wants to have a bf? And I don't understand why he likes the ML? It was just through a screen. Also, I thought he would be a better protagonist a bit more confident or steady but he's such an uke? And being annoyingly needy with the ML when I'm not convinced of his love.

The pro and cons became a frustrating mediocre novel, but this is only by my opinion and preferences.

The story is about MC, a 16 year old boy, living in a rural place where teaching is lacking. Just recently he learned a devastating secret... his "mother" switched him out shortly after his birth so that her real son can live a good life in a rich family. While beeing suppressed by his "family " he already gave in to this life when his school started video clasees with a famous and... more>> advanced school. One day a person appeared in front of the camera and held a speech in english, making MC realize this person is a far away as the moon... so he has to start to chase the moon. Working his way up, winning an opportunity to go to that school and making friends with the moon.

The beginning of this story is really good and the writer did agreat job concerning "heart stabbing ". Through out the whole story there will be moments where your tears well up and overwhelming sadness.

Unfortunately this sadness is partly self-inflicted. MC meets the "real son" in his new school but instead of trying to handle it, he gets jealous and aggressive because that guy has what he wants so desperately. Yes I understand that he is 16 years and the situation might overwhelm him but he is still able to calculate a great game against that guy. MC doesn't come clean to ML, even when they are already together. He only droppes some passive agressive hints and wallowes in self pity.

When his antagonist found out the truth, they could just have a talk but the writer switched A's personality a 180 degree. A childish, cute, spoiled and sickly crybaby became a paranoid, calculating, overbearing and overly jealous a**hole... also dumb.

Instead of dragging out the drama they culd just communicate but this is a word that the writer seems not to know. Like zero communication between everyone. I highly dislike how the whole situation got handled and the writer doesn't give everyone an end or just unsatisfying endings. Especially the antagonists end makes no sense at all.

I do not see the happiness and fluff others see in this novel. Yes there are some cute interactions between MC and ML but I feel like this loses in splendor because of their somewhat dysfunctional relationship. The whole cast in this novel needs a shrink and a "how to" about communication.

It's ok to read once but I don't feel this will draw me in a second time. <<less

If Novelupdates let reviewers grade on the translation, I'd give this a solid 6 for the translation, and either way I would urge the translator to write their own material instead of just translating.

As to the story, I am not going to put myself through the hell of reading it in the Chinese or even MTLing it. I felt the characters were horribly unrealistic in their construction and actions in the story. I actually had visions of cardboard cutouts being moved around on poles by the author, every so often... more>> being banged in to each other to generate some excitement.

The plot was ridiculous in my opinion. Here's an example of the logic going on in the story.

Spoiler

The MC finds out he was switched by overhearing his fake parents talking. A plus I though it was one of the better ways to handle the discovery and reunion. Then that goes to crap as he promises not to reveal or derail her child despite these two treating him like crap in addition to robbing him of his family. Then there is the matter of his love at first sight being with the one that replaced him. WUT IS THIS??

[collapse]

Putting aside flawed logic and lack of sensible motivations, the way things move forward or don't seems completely random.

Spoiler

The family reunion when done is a complete facepalm moment. Instead of having confusion denial and a range of personal reactions, the whole family goes straight to guilt and dropping the fake faster than a hot potatoe.

[collapse]

There was pitifully little about the bio family and the reunion and what there was needed to be deciphered.

If it wasn't for the spectacular translation that makes this novel flow, I would give it a 2. <<less

ABSOULTELY BEAUTIFUL STORY!!

It's bittersweet with right amount of sweet and sour. The MC Tao Xi is one of the strongest MCs I have ever read, he is not vulnerable he was wronged completely by the joke of fate.

It's a story about a shining star who was dumped into the well of mud, yet climbed out using the rope of hope to chase the moon that belonged to him. It's also a story of the moon who did everything for his shining star to come to him and accompany him in the space of life.

... more>> It's a story that make you cry and smile at the same time.

For those who think MC is blaming the person who his place, like people, MC is just a 16 year old kid who was wronged by everyone around him. His fate was exchanged for the selfish malice of humans. What should have belonged to him was taken by another person, the name his mother gave, his family, his 16 years of childhood, at last even the person he loved was with that other person for 16 years as his childhood sweetheart. Like what do you expect Tao Xi do to? Accept it with generous heart? He is a kid okay. If you are played by such a joke of fate, would you be reasonable? And that Yang Dongle is not a good person to begin with. Why you all don't blame him? It's his mother who did such a mistake, not TX's mother. So he should pay for his mother's good deed right?

why are you all saying TX to accept YD? Did YD accepted TX with big heart? <<less

I think this novel coming from a 16 year old's perspective is well written. Compared to how teens react in real life, he grew up more mature than most of us. He is enduring because he felt helpless, there is nothing he can do and he knows it. He is scared of the uncertain and if he wasn't given the light from his moon, he probably wouldn't have the courage to pursue what is rightfully his. He would just wallow in despair of what his life would have been if... more>> he wasn't exchanged.

I don't think YD was portrayed unrealistically or evil. He was insecure and pampered. It's hard to imagine what a boy's mind would go through when you might have to give up what you already had, he was insecure. Tao Xi hating him doesn't mean he think YD is bad or it's his fault, that's why he didn't do anything to him but you can't take away from him the emotions he felt knowing that what YD have should have been his or at least similar. His experience shaped him and that's how Long Qinhe got his attention. He wasn't raised spoiled and incapable unlike the sickly YD. I do believe that LQ wouldn't like TX if he wasn't exchanged. A part of LQ would still feel supressed or deprived as his mom focuses attention to someone else's son regardless if TX grew up because you can't take away the fact he had to grow up on Fang Sui's shadow and thinking his mom didn't love him. Same as how LQ grew up with YD. He liked TX because he was his and only his, someone who had no one else to depend on depended on him, found him. TX is emotional as every teen thinks it's them against the world. His thoughts are understandable but it would have been better if he realizes that falling in love to LQ and being with him was the result of the swapping, it was the price. He only wanted Lin Qinhe but Lin Qinhe wanted to give him everything. <<less

OMG! You. Have. Got. To. Read. This. Novel!

This is such a hidden gem! 💙

Any BL fans should really read this novel!!

... more>> ...... So, MC (Tao Xi) was switched at birth with another baby. That baby grew up with MC's rich famliy being loved and spoiled, while MC grew up poor and a sad life with the fake parents that didn't love him very much.

MC saw ML (Lin Qinhe) in their school's online class one day and developed a crush on ML. MC decided to work hard in school so he can get transfer to ML's rich school. Which he did eventually. In the new school MC met the boy he was switched with. The boy also happened to be very close to ML because they both grew up together. Things got complicated as MC got closer to ML.

ML is your typical rich/ handsome, iceberg, cold, one word conversion type. Lol.

This is a well written short story and it's sweet and fluffy. A little bit of angst towards MC's part more. And omg, the chemistry between MC and ML is really good!!! I have read a lot of BLs and the two leads in this story have the most satisfying chemistry!!! Their interactions and actions make your heart flatters! 🤪🤪

The whole story is interesting! One thing I would complain is that we need a little more closure with Yang Duole! I don't mind that he.... ****Spoiler****

Spoiler

.....I don't mind that he got evil towards the end. He had been dotted on and loved, so of course he would get jealous and do those hurtful things to MC. And besides, it wasn't his fault they got switched at birth.

I think the author's ending for Duole is a bit too harsh. He got beaten up and dragged back by that evil dad to live with him. And the family just kind of didn't give a freak since they got MC back. I don't hate MC!! MC deserved that happy ending. Duole just need a happier ending too!

[collapse]

Yang Duole and MC were both very innocent, I agreed with why they would hate each other.

But wth, this novel still a 5/5 star for me!!💫

I will diffinately keep an eye out for more of this author's novels!! Can't wait!!!!!

Thank you translators!!!!🥰🥰 <<less

4.5 stars

A story of two lonely good kids searching for love and finally find it in each other.

I didn't expect this to be good?? I thought it'll be mindless dogfood or extreme dog blood but author managed the delicate balance between dogfood and dog blood so despite my heart feeling hurt I was also slapped by a shitton of sweet fluffy feelings.

It will be a 5 stars if not for

Spoiler

The original child being swapped becoming evil. Also bcz the Swapped dislike MC by intuition lol when originally he's portrayed as a sunny sickly spoiled boy. He becomes dark quickly.

It's like cliche to the max and I expected better from this novel (because I feel like author can do better than writing cliche) but eh. Still works. But I don't like it lol.

Maybe in another novel he'll be reincarnated and somehow do better.

[collapse]

I like the plot so much. ML is literally the moon to MC.

MC is a hard worker, handsome and genius at painting. He really work hard for his place (Pun intended) and my heart hurts so much for MC

ML is a cold genius but also kind of "broken". I like the fact that author gave him a reason for his coldness towards people and not just be like "he's born that way" and He's seriously good and quietly behind the scene help and pamper MC in his own way without hurting mc's pride.

EDIT #2: Reread this after a year and damn I still loved this. And I still hate Mother Luo as much, she's just as selfish as I remembered and the feelings didn't diminish in the second read...

EDIT: You know what? I'm changing my initial rating from 4stars to 5. It's been a few day's, already starting a new novel, but I'm still thinking about this one!

Wow, surprisingly, I really liked it even though I'm the kind of reader that gets impatient easily.

It's very realistic to me, Tao Xi's emotions, at first read might seem "overdramatic" sometimes (as I've read other reviewers call it) but when you think about it more, isn't that the way a teenager, given his background and history, would react? I'd prefer these kind of emotions rather than 1-dimensioned characters all the time.

He's not seeking revenge at all, he's focused on achieving his goal. And that's another thing I love about this novel. I understand where some reviewers mistook him for a green-tea, he really isn't. That literally was just a scene and he didn't mingle with Yang Duole that much after

The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is becauee it ended too soon 😭 Wish there were more extras! <<less

So glad didn't check the negative reviews when picking up this novel. I guess it's a matter of perspective but seeing those negative reviews, urged me to write one to counter them.

This novel is fictitious that allows you to escape reality. It is an emotions-evoking read. I felt sad, angry, silly, disappointed, cold, happy--and overall heartwarming. It's a healing read. I was so angry for the behalf of MC. What green tea, what white lotus -- I suggest that don't read this novel if you've just finished reading a Quick... more>> Trans or childhood/white lotuses/moonlight protagonists to avoid biases.

I'm bad at expressing myself but one thing I can say that this novel is great. I love it. It is heartbreaking and heartwarming. It is healing. I've read this after having an emotional breakdown due to life pressure and I find this really helpful in lifting up my mood.

I love this novel and I thank the author for creating their, Lin Qinhe and Tao Xi, world. <<less

The angst hit so f*ckING GOOD. I feel like so many people could relate to our MC and ML. I teared up in almost every chapter. I do wish we got more on Yang Duole and Tao Jian. I feel the same for Lin Qinhe's and Tao Xi's mom. I want to know more about Luo Zhengyin's feelings for Fang Sui.

"Once he was in a deep well looking up at the moon. It was only by following a rope that happened to hang down that he was able to climb out of the well and walk alone toward the moon, never hesitating even for thousands of miles. It turned out that the rope was not an accidental good luck.

It turned out that when I was running to the moon.

The moon was also running to me. " Yes I am aware this is a pretty shitty review. <<less

Wow, such an amazing story. I cried a lot in this novel. MC thought he was chasing the moon, but what a twist. After reading a novel, I normally don't care for the extra because it's mostly happily ever after crap, but in this case it was the closure I needed for this novel. Am noticing a pattern here as far as BL novels are concerned, ALL mls are incredibly generous, selfless, loving, sweet and on top of it all drop dead gorgeous! Is it any wonder this 'laozi' here is still single?!! ha ha! My standards are ridiculously impossible to reach might as well continue living vicariously through all these incredibly spoilt mcs!

Ahhh. Beautifully poignant, a story filled with imperfections that make it perfect. The author understands that many things are not black and white, and are rather faced often with a gray moral boundary line. Our characters aren't Mary Sues or perfect characters with no flaws. They're refreshingly human, with ugly and beautiful emotions intertwined to create a bittersweet feeling that you cannot help but resonate with. I almost coughed up blood the first few chapters though, so fair warning on that. Never felt that frustrated in my life. Won't... more>> say anything more, but you guys will be going on an emotional ride and I bid you a happy farewell to that journey. This story is refreshingly and rawly human, and I hope you all will check out this novel ASAP.

P.S. If any of what I just said just now has made you take a U-turn, then take another one and check out the first few chapters. No discussion.

P.S.S. Spoiler though because I want to graciously disagree with a review:

Spoiler

Youn Dongle's ending was fitting. He made some mistakes but was not greeted as a villain but as a child who was subject to his upbringing and innate personality combined. He wasn't left out to die, but I do wish the author elaborated on what had happened to him. The author never said our MC was a holy character--he too had flaws. But you can see how he held back in exposing the truth (even despite knowing how wretched of a life he lived could have been different), while YD basically bore hostility to him for no reason, and decided to bear even more when he found out the truth. What YD was always concerned about was what might be taken away from him as he (YD) lived a privileged pampered life. Our MC had to crawl through the mud, with no love, to reach where he was standing. YD? He was selfish and willful and never took into people's accounts. He largely victimized himself. Yet he did not reach a horrible ending. He paid for what he reaped, nothing more and nothing less.

THE FIRST FEW CHAPTERS ALMOST MADE ME DROP THE NOVEL.

It was so angtsy to me that I started to feel suffocated. At some point, the MC disappointed me but thankfully I did not stop reading. As I read the novel, I began to understand MC.

The author has their own way of choking you both from micro angst and fluffiness. Give this novel a shot.

Btw, this novel is well-written and has a good translation.

Somehow it felt like it was a blessing in disguise that MC was switched at birth.

Following the life trajectory of the canon fodder (YD), if MC stayed by ML side since the beginning, perhaps they won't end up together. This was not a very moving or heartwarming novel, it was kinda simple in its complexity.

Well-done angst and buildup of plot points. It takes a concept of poor transfer student and elevates it to the next level with the switched at birth trope except the MC finds out and doesn't go back to the family. The reveal was extremely satisfying and executed with heartache!
