With the rising tide of steam power and machinery, who can come close to being a Beyonder? Shrouded in the fog of history and darkness, who or what is the lurking evil that murmurs into our ears?

Waking up to be faced with a string of mysteries, Zhou Mingrui finds himself reincarnated as Klein Moretti in an alternate Victorian-era world where he sees a world filled with machinery, cannons, dreadnoughts, airships, different machines, as well as Potions, Divination, Hexes, Tarot Cards, Sealed Artifacts…

The Light continues to shine but mystery has never gone far. Follow Klein as he finds himself entangled with the Churches of the world—both orthodox and unorthodox—while he slowly develops newfound powers thanks to the Beyonder potions.

Like the corresponding tarot card, The Fool, which is numbered 0—a number of unlimited potential—this is the legend of “The Fool”.

I really liked this story. It was so great and interesting! I really loved Klein and
Spoiler

all of his alter egos

[collapse]

MC is not a womanizer and this story doesn't really has romance. I really liked that fact that he is getting stronger and focuses on his goal. He has a goal and strives for it, but he is not immoral. He kills people but not for fun but for survival. I also liked that there are strong enemies in this story. I really did not like Amon but he made a great villain.

MC is not strong from the start but slowly gets stronger. The more we read the more we know about the truth of the word and about the reincarnation. At the first few chapters maybe it does not look special but it's so worth of reading. And yeah I really liked the world building the details the accuracy about the era and everything! ❤ The tarot club is so great. Sometimes this story is funny sometimes it is sad (it made me cry several times) and it is absolutely great. Writing reviews is not really my thing but if you have not read this masterpiece you must! This was absolutely amazing! I have read this months ago but I came back to write a review! Waiting for the second book!
Spoiler

the ending is *chef kiss* I'm crying I did not really get what the heck happened at the end but klein got sleepy and became a half- outer god? Idk it was great I liked it

First of all,
Spoiler

this is not an isekai.

So if anyone here is turned away by that, just reconsider lmao. Second of all, this is a really good novel if you are into this kind of genre, and even if you are not, you can still read it to admire the world that the author has made, as well the characters, all of which are very intricate and somehow very logical.

Also, I really like the magic system in the story. The concept of "you eat stuffs, you gain superpower" is not new obviously, but the way the beyonder system is set up somehow just makes a lot of sense. The mysteries that comes from the fantasy element of this world gives of a very tense atmosphere, as anything that you don't have a good understanding about contains potential danger.
Spoiler

After all, just reciting a name or looking at an object, or even just having a dream can drive you crazy or even kill you

[collapse]

My only problem is that the last volume was a bit underwhelming for what has happened before it. At the end, what I thought was "that's it?", but seeing how it is the first installment of a triology, it kinda make sense. Another problem I have is that
Spoiler

the modern day side story? Seems very disconnected from the rest. It feels like the author just added it in just because.

[collapse]

It's a great read still, just read it. If you finish the first volume and still think it's bad, then this is just not for you.

Ok- SO lemme tell you this, the only reason I made an account was to write a review for the absoulute masterpiece!!

First of all, I'm a type of reader who reads basically all genres, but this just really caught my eye. Lord of the Mysteries is, well how do you describe it... It truly makes you immersed into the story, with the excellent descriptions, that can make you relate to certain characters! The magic system was extremely unique, with the potions and artifacts. Sure sometimes you felt like it was... more>> too much information in one chapter and that you couldn't process it, but if you keep on reading, everything will feel much more clearer.

The worldbuilding though... The worldbuilding was probably done the best of all, as I said before, everything is very desciptive.

The characters, ok lets start of with our MC, our MC is kind, but not to the point that he is a saint. He is not extremely op either, he learns and we grow with him! He has a weird humor as well.

The side characters... oh gosh. They- for some reason are just so human, at the same time not, not anyone of them are perfect, not the MC, not the side characters, not the antiagonist.

Our antiagonist, ok- lets just say- they deserve to be antiagonist. <<less

First of all, let me give a greatest respect to the author. This novel is amazingly done!

I don't really like cliff-hanger or something like that (I am not patient enough to wait for updates >.<), but this novel is definitely worth it. [For those who doesn't know, this novel has finished but it is supposed to be the first part of trilogy series. You know, SERIES, not book.]

About the story, it has victorian era's background (with magic, mysteries, gods, and the like). The plot is surrounded in mystery, as the... more>> title itself. The characters are well done, you can feel their growth without being excessive. This book can make you immerse in it subtly, which means you don't realize the characters and plot have gone deep into your heart until the climax/mini climax.

I can't say much about what happens inside because it will surely dampen your reading experience.

My suggestion:

  • Please read from the very first chapter. Don't skip any as you might regret it at later chapters.
  • Avoid spoiler if you can
--- below is my subjective experience when I read this novel ---

From my experience, I really miss those first few chapters (few means around 100 chapters) when I already read the first half of overall novel. Those 'noob' and 'normal' days are worth remembering. And that's why it will be best if you don't miss those precious starting line because when you are already halfthrough, it's hard to go back and immersed in it.

Btw, I usually don't mind spoiler, but I think this book is an exception. Just go with the flow and don't open the wiki fandom [especially if you can't control yourself --> like me : (]. Actually I wasn't trying to find spoiler, but to see the characters' picture. Well, it's a black hole to me. I am just glad that I was already near half the book before I searched the picture of our MC, Klein Moretti and went to the spoilers lair.

Anyway, it's still enjoying but the spoilers kinda distracting me (especially for the crucial part) because I was fantasizing the scenes too much n_n" <<less

First of all. I like the world building and the cthulhu. The potion system and sequences relationship is nice too. What more, in here we have a warm hearted main protagonist among all the cold hearted MC. It was refreshing! I mean, someone finally decided to break away from the streotypes. Although it doesnt mean that MC is weak, in fact he was quite strong, soft yet strong kind. Because of that, it was easier to find MC likeable. Additionaly, in here we have no harem no romance among MC... more>> which is good. The way author write the story is also awesome. How should I put this, the author kind of write an intuitive informative neutral clear kind of style, well, at least for this novel. Yeah, thats all from me.

PS: btw, of all author books, I only like this one since the world building is interesting and the MC is also refreshingly nice.... As for other books, well, its not really my cup of tea, it was too boring, the genre I mean <<less

I know I haven't finished it yet and I'm still reading, but after the recent developments in the story I can't help but to do a "mini"-review to vent and update it when I'm done

So in essence.. 9.5/10, but...

Spoiler

I can't get over the fact just how incredibly useless the seer beyonder pathway is.. Just for comparison.. At the same sequence (2) or lower, you have a dude that can sink an island with a tsunami, or wipe out a large city with lightning. Dude who can connect everyone in a massive army and merge their power, Bernadette who can make spells that do just about anything and most of all Amons sequence 2 avatar who can steal your as*hole from the other side of the planet, wait till you die of constipation and then steal your and your dads fate to consensually f*ck your gf AND your mom.. Then you have the MC.. Who can make marionettes out of people, which from some point, are only useful for the bad guys so that they can find him through the connection. He can summon projections of strong people from the mist of history, but only if he says pretty please first, because everyone that's semi-useful to him can "possess" the projection of themselves once it is summoned and if they don't want to help him in the first place he's just summoning another enemy. And he can make "miracles" by fulfilling wishes. But only if he finds 10 lost cats first.. After all he's the only one in the story so far that has core abilities paywalled behind random sidequests.. The only good ability he has is hiding in the mist of history, but the reason it's good is that he's one of the very few people who knows what happened before the first era, and he only knows that because he's the MC.. So in essence, the seer pathway is absolutely useless, unless you're the MC and a bunch of random people much stronger than you are willing to help you all the time.. The battles usually go like this: He runs around asking people for help, when the battle begins he summons people with abilities that are actually useful, then he hides somewhere before he uses an item from a sequence that's actually useful.. Very cool.. TLDR: The worldbuilding is amazing, the characters are great, the story is great, but from the moment Klein starts meeting Amon after EVERY. SINGLE. BATTLE, the fighting becomes the hands down worst part of the story. That's because Amons ability is the writer going "he used a loophole to do X" or "He stole/gifted X" the X being absolutely anything, as at this point in the story when the MC is very close in level to Amon, Amon can still find a piece of toilet paper the MC used 2 years ago, use a loophole and steal the MCs large intestine.. That makes those "thrilling and meaningful" ambushes that happen approx. every 15 chapters extra boring.. It's just a matter of how is the MC going to kill himself to resurrect somewhere else this time..

[collapse]

Update: Finished it.

It ended a bit too early and i'd like it if the ending everything was leading up to actually happened instead of this vague whatever. A lot of things that were foreshadowed just didn't happen and there's a lot of questions that weren't answered..

But.. Even with those few things I didn't like, it's still one of the best novels i've ever read.. Would absolutely recommend.. <<less

Characters: 9/10

Plot: 10/10

World-Building: 100000000000/10

... more>> Annoyance meter: 3/10

Overall: I'm a historian now.

Wow... I'm really bad at words so I don't think I can do this novel justice, but I'll try LMAO.

1000 chapters in, and the end is peeking its head. The one thing I can confidently say about Lord of mysteries is that the world-building in this novel is absolutely phenomenal. Words cannot properly describe just how amazingly built this world is.

I can really tell that the author was passionate about this. The history and myths inside of LOM are so well written and so goddamned interesting, that I wonder if this is an actual place somewhere in the universe. Honestly, I loved the history of the world so much that I'm on my way to becoming a historian.

Klein as a character is very human compared to most. The first thing he tries to do after being transmigrated into an unknown world was to try and get back to his own. He feels guilt for taking over another persons' body like a parasite, stealing their identity, friends, family, connections and achievements. He actually feels remorse unlike most characters who just shrug it off and it's VERY refreshing to see.

He's also very realistic in that he isn't black or white, he's a forever changing shade of grey. He isn't an evil guy, but he wouldn't hesitate to kill the people who hurt him and the people he loves. He isn't a good guy, but he would seek justice for people he barely knows and expects near nothing in return.

Klein is also very smart. Well... He's like, above-average smart. He tries to not rely on his golden finger too much, (The fog above the spirit world) and he tries his best to become stronger with his own strength. Of course, he still encounters rare and cheat like items too, but most of the time, they're just supplements for him. His strength is the core of it. If he wasn't strong on his own, the items he used would pretty much be useless as they'd probably get stolen or he'll go crazy from using them.

The side characters are actually well written and fleshed out. They actually feel like real human beings rather than an accessory to make Klein look better or a tool to help him in his endeavours. I feel like every character got an appropriate amount of scenes to shine in. Aubrey at the start was definitely the golden child though LMAO. She appeared like, 9/10 in the early 1-300 chapters. Maybe even more! I forgot LMAO.

I personally wanted to see more of Derrick's POV in the City of Silver. But, well... can't really do much about it lmao.

The plot in this novel is legitimately the best thing I've ever read in a CN novel. I cannot express just how amazing the story of this novel is. If you're a story and history who*e like me, LOM is a must-read. It's just so goddamned well written. I don't know how else to describe this novel. It's just so GOOD!

However, I highly suggest you only start reading this when you're on summer/winter holiday. It's very hard to get back to reading this after taking a break from it as this novel is just packed with fantasy lingo and concepts. 60-75℅ of people would definitely get a headache trying to figure out what the hell is happening after taking a few weeks off the novel.

TLDR; Amazing novel with great world-building and realistic characters paired with a plot so solid that even thor's hammer can't break through it. <<less

The absolute best! LOTM figuratively transported me throughout the whole story. Characters are very well thought out and the universe is credible. Both writing and translation are a delight for the eyes. I have nothing but praise for this masterchief, despite a few shortcomings.

+ Why I liked it:

  • The tension. If talking about creating, maintaining and lessening the tension for readers, I think SCOG is one of the best examples. This one is the exact opposite. You are always in a state of tension but it is very subtle. Major events for the MC tend to happen unexpectedly. In the end, you know something is going to happen, but you don't know neither when nor why.
  • The beginning. From the first chapter, you want to know more. Here there is no classic exposition. The reader is as lost as the MC. This connection built with him will last until the end of the novel.
  • The world. The environment, the history, the supernatural forces, everything is brillant.
- The shortcomings:

  • There is too much information. Yes, it enables a more immersive experience, but I still had to go regularly on the wiki to remind myself.
  • Combat scenes are hard to follow, this, owing to the uniqueness of supernatural powers coupled with the author's rich descriptions.

I read this in another site that had the complete chapters, but I will write my thoughts here

Mc's character development and personality

Spoiler

i really liked how the MC got really great character development, and he is not the type of MC that straight up adpated well to everything, he got sick when he saw dead ppl and also he just adapted well bcz of the original owner's memories, I really like how he almost lost control that one time (?) I guess im still not on the lates chapters but I can assure you he's great

[collapse]

ROMANCE

Im very happy that it doesnt have any, bcz it will only ruin the plot, solo leveling is the best example ik for that

Worldbuilding

Spoiler

this author is very good at worldbuilding to the point my mind cant comprehend whats happening sometimes, also alot of things are very unpredictable and I like that

[collapse]

villains

Spoiler

i really like how the author foreshadows the main villain, you cant even notice him being mentioned

[collapse]

Tarot member's character development

Spoiler

i like how audrey (miss justice) went to a naive girl that loves mysticism to a powerful member of the tarot club and she aslo knows how to act and kinda manipulate ppl now, I really loved on how alger (hanged man) 's pov of klein and mr world be like im kinda dissapointed bcz I dont really think he got character development, I like on how mr sun (derrick) is somewhere literally on a hidden island that nobody founds and no one can do direct contact on him bcz yes, im too lazy to actually explain and I have classes about 1 min from now

[collapse]

Deaths

Spoiler

i really liked that the author kinda does no mercy on us readers, it also makes sense that the MC has to kill ppl and ppl gotta die, I mean the world isnt all rainbows and unicorns, I despise those novels where the MC rejects killing even if its really needed

[collapse]

Execution and storytelling

Spoiler

the author is really good at executing, you'd just say the storytelling is boring bcz the plot is the heavy type, I like how the plot was kinda slow also to show the mc's progress step by step also, I kinda disliked that the MC kinda relies on the gray fog always but its understandable since he kinda needs to do it anyway

[collapse]

i'd rate this 10/10 if only I could rate it a hundred

this is my second novel and I really had fun reading this, I was comparing it to my first novel (tr*sh of the count's family) and this is a hundred times better heck even infinite times better, I personally recommend this to new readers in the novel community!. <<less

Came for the reviews, was shocked at how everyone loved the novel and then I went back to read it... My daily activities were put on hold bcus of this novel...I was fu***** hooked!!!.... Its that good!

Klein is legit one of the best protagonists I have ever seen... He is smart, dependable, not proud, not an hypocrite like most MCs and also not rash... I was so happy when he got to Rank 0 and also his Blesseds and companions were all very cool...I couldn't find a single fault in... more>> the entire novel

I'm so sure everyone's most frustrating character was Amon😂😂.... That dude was something else with his monocle and his weird smile... I could feel Klein's frustration from the novel😂😂....I'm so sure the Book 2 will be awesome!!!

I was feeling so down when Reverend insanity got dropped until I found this gem... This is right at the very top of all the novels I have ever read...

For all those who haven't read this masterpiece you are kinda lucky, wish I could forget everything and read it for the 2nd time! <<less

I was searching for transmigration novel and I am glad I came across Lord of the Mysteries. This is simply one of the best novels I have read so far (Though it is not actually a transmigration novel. The author will explain it in the latter part of the novel).

I found each of the characters are quite three-dimensional and well-developed. All of the supporting characters and antagonist do makes me feel that they are real. One thing I found in common in all of the characters are that none of... more>> them are arrogant. I might recalled wrongly but at least the major characters are not externally or internally arrogant. It is very refreshing to read cause most of the novels characters are quite generic sharing the typical traits of arrogance/heroism.

As for the storyline, I am absolutely in love with it. It is quite slow paced but still the plot makes up for it. The only thing I found it hard to understand is the fighting scenes. It is written too complex for me to imagine it. I am only guessing it conceptually without really understanding the choices of words. And also the ending, I do not really mind that it ends with a cliffhanger. The ending works for me. It evokes a sense of curiousity and loneliness to me. When I read the ending, the emotions of the MC felt very realistic. It is too human-like to me the ending.

Just that after reading Lord of the Mysteries, your standards of reading novels will increase. It is very difficult to find another novel to enjoy. <<less

Completed the novel today.

The story was good but the thing that pissed me was there is no ending to this book. The story ends with a cliffhanger for the sequels to complete it. I really wouldn't have picked up this book if I was aware of it beforehand. There is no satisfaction after reading the book and I'm feeling more annoyed why didn't I check the reviews stating it doesn't have a ending and for completing the whole story you have to wait for two more books.

One more thing that... more>> I didn't like was there were many chapters describing the food that the MC is eating and the type of drink hes taking. Imagine reading a novel where you always seem to read oh today MC is eating this for breakfast, this for lunch, this for dinner.

Also a point to note that MC has no personality because he's always acting out as someone else and I'm not talking about the potions acting it's about the disguises, he's always in a disguise or other so much that his own personality is lost. He cut off connections to everyone from before but the new connections he builds doesn't show his true personality. Yes MC was a righteous person but the personality element was very very lacking. Agreeing on the point that till 200 chapters the MC with a personality was a huge plus point.

The story was good but the world was not that big that you cannot complete the story in one book.

The only good point I liked about the book was that the potions were very well thought, the powers were very varied. There are 22 different paths that a person can take in this story and nearly every path was explained pretty well.

Also if the author doesn't want to end this story with this book then he should've stopped at the moment where Klein goes off to sleep to fight for his own consciousness. The extra chapters after that didn't make sense.

The extra chapters also had that oh pork belly, chicken skin, cola or beer, what type of beer sweet or salty. I mean the food was always decribed instead of MCs personality. Think about how many times bread, lemon cakes, iced tea, desi pies were mentioned.

Honorable mention to the pathway system and Gehrman Sparrow arc that made it somewhat worthwhile.

Also please never mention desi pie in front of me again. <<less

This novel is incredible in my opinion. When it was first recommended to me I was sceptical, I thought it would be a typical story of a bunch of hypocritical church priests chasing the protagonist because he is a "heretic" or a detective novel where the MC had to figure out the truth behind his death but it's so much better than that.

The world-building of this novel was incredible and the well developed supernatural system only added to its charm. The MC is reborn in a world similar to the... more>> Victorian era in the body of Klein Moretti whose death contains many weird circumstances. As he slowly uncovers the truth he finds a much bigger world than he initially thought and so he starts his journey to survive and protect those he cherishes.

Despite that, what I find most fascinating about this story is the power system in this novel. It isn't as simple as the strong rule over the weak, it's a world where both ends of the system heavily rely on each other to survive. The strong need the weak and vice versa which is something I have never seen in a novel before. Furthermore, the power system itself has a profound effect on the world, the different paths one can take all have a subtle connection or repulsion which also explains many events that may seem like plot armour or fate. There are also many more powers such as fate/luck, curses, divining, and so on and it isn't as simple as if you're powerful you rule everything. It's all incredibly detailed and it kind of forces you to keep reading just to understand the world he lives in. It isn't until almost 100 chapters until the end that you finally start to see the whole picture, it's so different from standard cultivation novels where the MC only needs to understand the dao or cultivate endlessly to rule an entire universe. <<less

Very interesting magic system, characters and world building. The fights are pretty good and a very compelling plot, with quite it's twist. The only flaw I guess would be it's slightly rushed ending, everything else is top quality.

It's more like a published book rather than CN. I read around 1400+ chapters in 17 days cause this bloody novel deserves the time you put in to read it. And it didn't disappoint me even a slightest bit.

Story is 9/10. Interesting side stories and viewpoints, the author has a plan for the story and does it perfectly.

World building 10/10. Most praise worthy point of this novel.

Characters and their development 10/10. Again most characters interact strongly with the story and it's the ultimate strength of any good novel.

This story is brilliant. Lets start with that.

You will be in awe of the world building in this novel. Every character, every town, village, a little cafe described seemed so alive. You will forget you are reading about an imaginary world, you will fell it.

Then we have our hero Klein. His character is so fleshed out, I seriously wish I know a person like that in real life. He is relatable but also works hard to reach the pinacle. He always seemed to have superior hand in every thing, but... more>> he never forgot who helped him have that superiority or luck.

At his weakest points, he who had always been a pillar of support of everyone, had no one by his side. But that did not make him hate or despise life. He just worked even more harder to overcome that weakness. I have a very special affection for this character. He might seem less op or less heroic at times, but when you seriously think about his journey, you will fall in love.

All the other characters, be it tarot card members, the gods, artifacts, angels... every one is portrayed brilliantly. Everyone has a little roles to play and they play is beautifully. No cannon fodder vibes. wow!

Next best thing, the arc endings. Every arc end left me so thrilled and amazed. I felt like standing up and clapping my hard hard just like how you appreciate a great magic show. In fact all the arc endings deserve everyone's standing ovation.

Ahh in the end, its a story will no romance and at two situations, it even describe the brutality of reality and how fragile love is, in the face of petty benefits. My blood boiled with the betrayals even if its only of a minor not even note worthy character.

I can go on, but all I have to say is, give this story your time. Its worth it.

Until 2022 when next series comes out! <<less

Fantastic. As somebody who has read a huge number of books both online and published, this is definitely one of the best.

At first, I read 20 chapters before moving on. I thought that it was too slow and complicated.

I am glad that I returned. The lore and backstop is amazingly deep and complex. You feel actually surprised or even horrified by the revelations in the story. The fights and interactions are clever and interesting. The author meticulously plans out a plot point 1200 chapters later that was revealed in the... more>> first ten chapters. You can tell that Cuttlefish really put a lot of effort into the story. The characters are also well fleshed out and you can't help but find them compelling.

This story will make you smile, it will make you cry. There is no elaborate plot to deliver these feelings, just the heavy emotions you can feel, paragraph by paragraph.

Keep on reading, it will get better. I would rate 6/5 stars if I could. <<less

This novel, compared to the rest to 90% of Xianxia, is without a doubt 5 stars. So in a sea of tr*sh, this is slightly better tr*sh. But compared to the top 1% of the masterpieces like Reverend Insanity, 2% Great Novels like WMW, this falls very, very short. Here's why

  • The MC. Undoubtedly, in my opinion, the thing that makes or breaks a series for me right off the bat is the MC. Unless the story is exceptionally good and the MC has little screen time, the thing I care about the most in a series is the MC. What do we have with this MC? Let's just say he's.. Way below par. He's bland and annoying would be a perfect description. Let's see why. First, he is extremely nosy. Whenever there's a situation he deems "evil" or "unrighteous", he will involve himself in it, even if it does not benefit him at all. He constantly gets involved with other people and is just overall a very unlikeable guy. He is also very self-righteous. There is no neutral or necessary evil in this novel. It's good vs evil. The characters are extremely 1-depth and the excuse the author gave was because of "acting." or whatever, so there is never any character development. Whenever the MC does or sees something, the first thing he does is call it righteous or evil. He is also extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY, narcissistic (in a bad way.) He constantly (literally every 2 paragraphs) makes passive aggressive remarks called "lampooning." Of course, he doesn't have the balls to say it to someone's face, but the author loves to show how "cultured" the MC is by his annoying lampooning. Another thing, he is very s*upid. Like extremely s*upid. I know he was "influenced" (spoiler), but the MC is not cautious at all. The author likes to make it seem like the MC is cautious by long monologues, but in reality the MC makes very dumb decisions. Such as: Inviting inspection from the Church. If I was in a mother f*cking world with gods and superhuman abilities, the last thing I would f*cking do is ask for an examination by someone whose foundations I know nothing of. How do I know if they have some sort of special ability or device that can find out I transmigrated or have the grey fog? S*upid writing.
  • The second worse thing is the f*cking exposition. I LOVE worldbuilding. But let me tell you that seven paragraphs describing Klein eating a piece of f*cking fish is not f*cking world building. Seriously, I know more about how a f*cking Desi pie or Southernville beer tastes than I do about the f*cking world. It's like the author is simply making a more detailed Japanese isekai MC. The author explains his sh*t exposition using words like "slow paced" or "methodical writing". But that's bullsh*t and we all know it. The author constantly adds unnecessary names, backgrounds, or details to things that do not matter. I can understand doing it once or twice, it can set the mood. But he does it every f*cking chapter. Seriously. I've read more about how the food and drinks in the LOTM world taste than actual god damn plot. It's very, very annoying.
  • Plot Armor: There's a sh*t ton of it. I never, and I mean ever, do I complain about plot armor. I think it makes the story more interesting and makes an MC an MC. But when the author tries to say that the MC is struggling or suffering and has no plot armor, that is simply bullshit. For one, he has the grey fog. For two, his foundations are perfect because he had the diary of a literal peak-level existence to base his cultivation off of. Thirdly, he has the Tarot Club in which he can literally get anything he currently needs (it's in the novel) when other lone Beyonders need YEARS. Another thing that pisses me off is that the reviewers call this novel "slow paced" yea right. It's not slow paced, it's simply unnecessary detailed and long. Right off the bat in the first volumes we see descents of evil gods, high tier beyonders everywhere, and a bunch of high-level shit. And magically, Klein survives all of this. He always happens to be at the right place at the right time and always has other people to rely on. When Klein has monologues about how he should handle the situation, the last thing he mentions, if at all, is relying and raising his own power. Instead, he always uses indirect methods or other people's help to solve a situation. He just happens to be there every time at the climax of it so you get the illusion he actually did something. He is a very reactive MC and is always dragged into/reacts to invents around him, instead of being a proactive MC like Fang Yuan, who creates events/ decides to participate in events by himself. There is no conflict of interest in this novel. It's either white or black, good or evil.
  • There is no character development. The author says that if you act a different way than what your sequence describes, then you go crazy or something. This is his excuse for shitty character development. If you are expecting to see plot twists, schemes, or two-faced people with real thriller action like Reverend Insanity, this novel is not for you. A character will act as they have always acted, there will be no development, this is a rule the author sets himself.
  • Boring plot in general. I'm a huge fan of the cultivation system and think it's very well thought out. However, it seems pretty useless. I mean, we constantly see a low sequence ant like Klein constantly getting involved in god-level characters right off the bat, so I place little to no emphasis on cultivation. I don't know what the story is. Apparently Klein simply just wants to return home or something so he's raising his cultivation, but then he sticks his nose in where it doesn't belong and gets involved with all of these events that hinder his goal, so I really don't know what the author wants. This author likes to use "reveal" tactics constantly. Meaning, we don't actively see manipulation, characters scheming in real time, or contrasting interests. We simply see the results. I enjoy reveals, but when that's all you have, it gets bland really fast. One minute Klein says he doesn't want to get attached to this world, the next minute he's getting involved in every f*cking event he can. He has a very cringe Hero-complex. I hold nothing but disdain towards his so called "morals." Thinking that everything he deems to be correct is righteous and always fighting against "Evil", so naive and immature.
Summary: This is pretty much a more detailed Japanese Isekai novel. The entire reason I stopped reading/watching Japanese works in the first place is because I could not relate to the softness, betaness, hero-complexs the main characters have, but this novel has all of that, and it's constantly told to you. This novel had a lot, and I mean a lot of potential. It's a shame the authors own narcissism, unnecessary morals, and passive aggressive arrogance ruined... more>> it. It's a very bland read. But compared to the other tr*sh xianxia (90% of them) its 5 stars no doubt. I'd say just read it and give it a try, but don't hold high expectations like I did, because the disappointment will be that much worse. <<less

At first I was being a bit pessimistic about this novel because of its "overratedness", and I did become disappointed after reading into 60 something chapter, I was disappointed at the lack of romantc interest, his lack of willingness to stay in the world he is working hard to improve, its like a kingdom where a king does everything to build but then abandone it, at least this is the kind of impression it gave. Still, I held on because of a comment that said to wait till 210th chapter.... more>> And I did and boy o boy, I am happy I did. It gradually became clear in the later half that romance might not be a good thing in this story as well as his lack of willingness to stay in the world has a reason and everything becomes fixed next. Still, one wonders what happens after the story ends because the author ddnt just end it right there, he let us imagine our own ending, and that was a good decision. Overall, read through the first 210 chapters. <<less
