Earth Online – a virtual MMORPG that takes place in the future year of 2190 – a game that everyone will bet their futures on. Set in a map that is ten times the size of real-world Earth, players battle for supremacy in the first game to feature personal adventure, territory construction, and grand warfare. For every death you experience in the game, your level would drop back to zero. Ouyang Shuo, an above average player, suffered the ultimate betrayal. For merely a piece of equipment, his sworn brother betrayed and backstabbed him. This time, after he reincarnated in the game, Ouyang Shuo swore to exact vengeance.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Ouyang Shuo found himself back five years before the betrayal – right before the launch of Earth Online. This time, armed with the knowledge from his past life, Ouyang Shuo would venture upon a new path.

How to perfectly complete quests? What historical battle maps would appear? How should one build up their territory? Utilizing the experience from the predecessors of his last life, Ouyang Shuo makes his bid for the top against all odds. Follow his journey as he seeks to lord over the world!

A different kind of tale that blends historical characters and virtual reality gaming, with heavy emphasis on kingdom building and warfare.

This novel shows how a kingdom was done and how to run it. Although the kingdom building part has its flaws, the true beauty of this novel can be seen from the battles of the past and how does one turn around a historic fight.

The story is very good. I have only read about 10 light novels and this one keeps me coming back to check on it everyday. A highlight of my day. The main character is sensible and his personality is easy to cope with. The overall story and development is fundamental. I read a review where someone compared it to clash of clans this isn't accurate. It is territory development but there is a lot of character development and relationship in this. Overall a 5.

Interesting story, but can't stand mc's real sister, virtual master tailor sister, and one of his lord player teammate in game. Basically same personality: spoiled, childish, naive, etc. Whenever he teases them or they are annoyed with him they say "Big brother is bad~. " Somehow this really annoys me. Maybe this sentence somehow seems too fake to me? I don't know anyone who talks this way... maybe females talk this way in China?

But besides this minor annoyance, novel's kingdom building plot is good. So 4 stars.

After reading 78 chapters this is my findings.

Pros in MC:

  • MC has a decent personality neither upright gentleman nor a downright pe*vert.
  • He is utilizing the knowledge of future in an effective way.
  • Interactions with side characters in real life is nicely written.
Cons in MC:

  • Even though somehow he was rebirthed (? Or regressed to earlier time) he just laugh it off and goes on doing things never ever thinking how and why it happened? He doesn't even think about the cause for a second and accepts it readily. Man even in fantasy point of view its unreal.
Pros is Story development:

  • A unique take on MC's in-game character class and his work which is different from usual VRMMO novels where the MC just grinds levels over and over.
Cons in story development:

  • My biggest disappointment is that the progression is too slow.
  • the chapters mostly contain miscellaneous things like building a barrack, building a school etc etc. Which although may be important but as a reader I don't like to read about it at least not repetitively.
So overall 3 stars.

ps: The novel is boring as hell and you could pick 12-15 chapters out of 78 which were actually interesting to read and will have impact on story.

First review, but I’ll just say that the translation is consistent. It’s actually well translated and it just makes the story that much easier to read and enjoy.

The story itself is sort of new to me. I’ve read LMS and a variety of other second chance/reincarnation virtual reality novels and I’d currently rate this as one of the better ones I’ve read. The main focus currently is city building. And that in itself was new to me, usually it’s a secondary focus to grinding or fighting wars. It’s interesting how... more>> different this story was to me and I’m currently really enjoying it. <<less

I actually think this novel is really good. Just that it requires the reader to have a little bit of iq? Like people with no brains definitely wouldn't understand half the stuff going on. If you're here for the action and fighting then you pretty much won't like this as like its half kingdom building and the other half is like the wars. The author is Chinese and the book is written for a Chinese audience so obviously he would be kinda fighting and writing about his own country. Pretty... more>> intellectual novel, not for people with no iq <<less

A wish-fulfillment novel about a gamer conquering the world which at times feels more like reading an instruction manual and yet somehow manages to pull you in because of it.

Earth is facing an extinction event and the government of the federation creates a virtual game environment to train the future generations in their conquer of humanity's new home. Several million players enter the game to compete against each other and get stomped by our main character and his time-traveler's knowledge of the game.

The scope of the novel is massive, and... more>> the detail the author puts into the development of the player's territories is incredible, but, because of it, the story turns into a succession of reports about the development of the territory, info-dump conversations, or simply long lists of unnecessary events, becoming extremely tedious at times.

This makes the pacing, which should be fairly light and quick, feel rather dragged, to the point where the fact that everything seems to work out for the main character no matter the problem might even be refreshing, if it wasn't because it harms the secondary character development and the coherence and "convenience" of the story.

The saving grace of the story is the detailed historical and global battles and the appearance of ancient figures who help the players in their conquest, making for an interesting read.

The Good:

    • Incredibly detailed kingdom-building from the small scale of a village to a global empire.
    • Very interesting reenactment of historical battles and figures coming to life in the novel.
    • The scope of the novel makes it feel grand and immersive.
The Bad:

    • Slow pace and somewhat tedious narration.
    • Secondary characters never seem to have a chance, and their personalities just dissolve over time.
    • Some of his conversations with other characters are unnatural at best. Creepy and rapy at worst.
    • Lack of coherence throughout the novel with the author forgetting his own "laws" for the sake of convenience.
    • Might not translate well to an international audience, with the main character stomping over every other country in the world. Not a fault though, after all the author caters to his audience, but something to have in mind.
If you don't mind slow-paced novels and a tedious amount of detail or are a fan of historical figures and events, then give it a try, you might like it. If otherwise... don't bother. <<less

Somewhat solid story with lot of interesting aspects, everything does get steadily processed as the story goes on and there are bunch of great things within like decent world building, good character growth (not just MC either) and even decent enough plot.

There are some issues too though, number 1. Being that its a pure Chinese novel that HEAVILY emphases on knowing/understanding Chinese history and the quadrillion characters that have been immortalized within it. Of course there is slight 'global' aspect as well but it barely scratches the surface.

Characters like "Gongsun... more>> Qi" or "Tai Gong" probably mean absolutely nothing to the average western reader but I would imagine they are ingrained in the minds of the original intended audience; the Chinese readers. This is a common theme all though-out the whole novel and exists in the story as a 'gap' for us that will likely put off many potential readers.

Another thing to point out here would be that this is not necessarily your typical web novel either as the route this book takes is more of a pure kingdom creation, management style / politics instead of any 'hotblooded action'. But I suppose I don't need to go more into that as most of us are capable of reading the tags before trying this out. Just felt like I needed to point this out due to couple less-than-adequate reviews I saw.

All in all I did enjoy majority of this book. It was slightly slower than I would of liked and the ending was rushed but overall I felt it begun nicely and ended good enough. Contrary to some other reviews out there I actually felt the spot in the story where it ended was perfect, just that the ending itself was somewhat too quickly written.

Finally, after some considerations, I give this book a solid 3, 5 / 5 rating - which gets upgraded to 4 stars due to the system and because I felt 3 was definitely too low. Do give this a try if you like kingdom management/politics. <<less

A Chinese 2nd chance WN, where the world is about to explode and humanity's at the end of its rope. Except none of that matters, because Ouyang Shuo's gotta get an early start in a Full-Dive VRMMORPG that will blow your mind. A Gameworld that progressively feels more and more real, as time goes on; with annual updates, balance patches and hotfixes to disrupt the meta.

This being one of the better thought out Gameworlds, it didn't waste any time getting straight into the Kingdom Building, with a heavy focus on... more>> efficient organisational structures and long drawn out historical battles. Elements that rely heavily on hundreds of named Chinese individuals & historical figures. Names one can only hope to remember and Ancient battles I struggle to care about. But beyond the author's obnoxious propagation of Chinese history, the heavy focus on technical & territorial progression and all manners of conflict, are always desirable in my books. Especially with an MC who doesn't have to be an infallible genius, to not always be on the back foot. The final push towards the ending is a bit rushed, but it is evident that the author had an ending in mind from the very beginning. <<less

its a modest 'meh'. The novel reading it was fun in the beginning him getting reincarnated and understanding some of the game was entertaining to say the least. But the middle part up to the ending is a bit melodramatic. What's more it losses a lot of background information, a lot of scenarios losses out and seems predictable.

Spoiler

What's really confuses me is the game in and out of it self like isn't the entire reason this game was launch was to train the best of the best for planet hope. So why in the ever loving Gaia, is there a restrictions like the technology tree, and multiple rules that doesn't make sense. It's not like the migration ship have an automated robots that can mine the resources and the likes, ohh wait they do have it.

[collapse]

In the end, it's ending was anticlimactic and boring, the plot is the same. <<less

I thought the start was quite good, but like most cases, Chinese authors suck at world building and relationship between characters.

I feel kinda sad, the conversations the MC had with the npcs were so stiff, like, only orders or brief talking. Almost seemed like they all read your mind, otherwise I cannot fathom why would they carry their orders in such perfection after only such a short and s*upid explanation, huh.

And even worse, the way the author would show the mc's stats, possessions or whatever.

Just a huuuuge wall of text... more>> with useless information to take up space. Boooring. (it takes half a chap or more)

Wish it wasn't so bland. Or s*upid. Or 1 dimensional. Sigh.

I wouldn't recommend this even if you were bored, because this truly makes you bored, or at least, I am now...

Ps. The FL is annoying as always, useless and always needing help, sigh. At least there was no harem... <<less

The start is ok for me at least, but then it goes on about how China has its great history it may have problems, but the good outweighs the bad.

I have seen this done in other Ch novels. Where the author introduces other countries besides China only when it comes to other countries no matter how good they are, they can't compete.

I don't know if the author is aware of what they are doing or they just did not do their research.

Deserves a 3 but can't lower the rating now.

After finishing the novel, I only thought of the following words: a Chinese fantasy; a Chinese wish!

In short, the novel has good kingdom building, management and wars but too many characters and history is a let down. And a lot of nationalism and I mean A LOT!

Read it for the kingdom building and all but not for the plot.

Reading this novel feel so bland compared with the lord empire. Kingdom building feel so slow with so many useless info dumb. There's 3-5 chapters just discussing privatization. LoL

In those 48 chapters you only got 2 battle going on. I gave 2 stars at least for the battle.

In my opinion with the same game like environment and world setting The lord empire many times better than this! (No offense)

Fun but slow kingdom building for the first 200 chapters.

Pity the random plot is highly random. There are no clockworking schemes, pure plot armor both for the MC and his enemies.

Some interesting pieces of chinese history are described as info dumps with tens of chinese names (sic!).

Chose your poison.

Firstly, a word of warning. This novel takes a while to get going. At first it seems to just your typical game simulator, a sim city if you will. Kinda slow. Kinda typical. Kinda boring. But if you continue with it, and try to get through it, you will be hooked.

You see, with most virtual game novels, even the better written ones, there is a small question that flitters through your head. And the question is this.... since the MC is powering through, when is he going to snowball and... more>> get ahead? Or if he is snowballing, why does he have so much issues? And in this novel, the author solves it in the most reasonable way.

This is not a battle manga where the MC discovers a new unbelievable boss. The steps taken and the challenges faced are all reasonable and realistic. Everything makes sense. And that is what makes it compelling. And as an added bonus, this game is like a history lesson on all of China's greatest people. I am impressed of all the research that went into this novel. <<less

Good country building novel with a lasting antagonist. The story starts slow and slowly picks up speed. Good plot and characters with almost every character having a decent amount of screentime. It's an enjoyable read, but it's going to be a three star.

The reason why is due to the sheer amount of info dumps and stats of the historical characters the MC recruits and the chapters that is only him moving his officials take up at least good percentage of the novel.

I don't believe it. I mean in a race. If your trip someone 5 times already, they would then be at the last part. But somehow that di chen is like a zombie. Just kept returning. Can't the author even name a new competitor. I am getting tired of that guy.
