Her first love ended in ruin.

[And so I often thought to myself, “I’d rather my husband just die already.]

That selfish, arrogant, boar-headed, and indulgent Prince was imprinted upon her memory. But now he’s acting strange….

Almost like he’s in love with Diana……

“This is my second chance, Iandrus.”

“I can’t lose you, Diana. It’ll end up just like my last life.”

[mu*derer.] [You end up dying, along with me, and even my child…… This is our future. So we shouldn’t get married, Iandrus. Don’t look so oblivious to it all.]

“Without you, Diana……I might just die.”

The story of a woman who wants to avoid getting married, a man who desires their marriage, and the reason why they never should.

One of the first novels of this genre that I've read where the trauma of the heroine is handled (imo) in a realistic, more believable way. Diana sticking to her guns based on the horrors she experienced in her first life makes so much sense, and her attempts to navigate her way through her second life while suffering from hella ptsd are so much more compelling to read than if she'd just willed her "Sad Feels :' (" away the moment her hot-yet-cold fiance showed his face. Trauma doesn't work... more>> that way.

This novel also handles the "ML's shitty behavior in their first lives led to tragedy and death" plot way better than works like Abandoned Empress
Spoiler

(mostly bcs he gets told that he does that sh*t and it horrifies him into changing his behavior... so far)

Which is something I super appreciate lol <<less

This is... heavy. It's not clear yet what actually happened and how much of a hand Iandrus played in all of it in Diana's first life, but the way the story was told from Diana's POV is so heart wrenching that it's hard to imagine any light at the end of the tunnel. But I'll power through.

okay, I actually don't have rating for this yet, but I messed up. Putting 5 stars for now so I don't mess up the rating.

just a real quick tangent. Another reviewer already pointed it out but I think it deserves to be said again, but the ML gets told everything he does in the future! Every little gory detail and it shocks him into changing himself up really quick, which is great since that's a glaring issue in a lot of these second chance novels. That was probably what pissed me off the most about Abandoned Empress, the ML never remembering or even knowing what he did that was bad so like how am I supposed to know his dumbass won't make the same mistakes if he doesn't even get what he did wrong? But the ML here has a lot of parts where he thinks on the terrible sh*t he did, even saying he wished he could beat the sh*t out of himself and ask him why he had to live like that. It's pretty admirable all things considering since he's a kid but he doesn't try and run away. But I do hope he'll actually remember everything or that maybe we'll get a flashback or something so we know how his true future self was thinking through all that

    • fl's pain is well described. She's hurting, doesn't want to make the same mistakes, hella ptsd, especially the stuff with her daughter
    • the FL doesn't forgive the ML right away, but she also knows she needs his power to save her fam. The mental toll it obviously takes on her to shelf her pain for the greater good is palpable
    • political intrigue that goes beyond the ML and the fl, specifically the stuff with the ml's brother and his fiancee. (I'm still pretty convinced future brother mu*dered the princess out of revenge for his fiancee's death. He's so sweet, but I think he might be a secret yandere??)
    • lore drop on the daughter, she might be the one who sent the FL back in time
    • fl's family isn't shitty for once, they're actually pretty nice.
    • redemption for the ML is already on the right track since he's taking specific steps to be different while also knowing exactly how god awful he was before.
    • the side characters are interesting so even when the leads aren't in the scene, the novel still keeps my attention, which is hard, cause I have the attention span of a goldfish.
all in all, ignore the 5 star rating, I'm not decided yet, there's enough here to keep me curious and reading. This could probably have the mystery tag since there's so much stuff going on. <<less

Everyone should read this novel, you know typically when a character is falsely accused and killed by their love ones (lover), they return into the past and avoid going through the same situation again. In the story she flat out told him what he did to her, her trauma doesn’t go away. Usually when characters go back into the past, they keep what happened in the future to themselves even when telling others would’ve benefited them more, she uses her future to benefit her; plus she told her family.

Lovin' the angst, despair and realistic approach to PTSD of this novel. I also like how the novel is presenting the ML's side of the story so you can't really hate him. Although I've read enough reincarnation stuff, this novel piqued my interest big time. I would really love to read this to the end!
