My Groom Ran Away

All the rich people in City B know how much Ruan ZhiYin likes Qin Jue. She had blindly followed behind Qin Jue for many years and watched as he matured from a youthful boy to a young man. Eventually, she had finally waited until a grand wedding was planned for them.

The Qin and Ruan families were to be connected by marriage. On the day of the wedding, the groom Qin Jue went missing. Ruan ZhiYin knew that Qin Jue had rushed to City C for his ex-girlfriend who had tried to commit su*cide. The guests had completely filled the seats and she, who had been looking forward to this wedding for years, finally completely gave up on Qin Jue.

She was not willing to let the Ruan family become a laughingstock, so she gritted her teeth and dialed the number of her arch-enemy: “Cheng YueLin, come and marry me right now. We will divorce in one year and I will give you the BeiCheng project.”

On the other side, Cheng YueLin stood in front of a floor covered in cigarette butts and held his phone as he raised a brow: “Miss Ruan’s groom ran away? Okay. Just wait. This Lord will come marry you.”

The next day, young master Qin and his good friend returned to B City. The assistant who had come to pick them up looked a bit hesitant.

Good Friend: “Could it be that Ruan ZhiYin wants to terminate the marriage contract?”

Assistant: “No, that is not it. But…”

Qin Jue: “But what?”

Assistant: “Miss Ruan has switched to a new husband.”

Qin Jue: “?”

— Cheng YueLin who had returned home with a beauty: I’ve already received the certificate. You don’t need to call me. Thanks.

***

After the wedding.

Ruan ZhiYin realised: No matter what I do, I cannot leave this marriage.

Cheng YueLin was secretly overjoyed: This is a pie that I never would have thought would fall down from the heavens.

Qin Jue who was full of regrets: This is a wife that I can never get back even after she is cremated.

“You dare to run away from the wedding. I dare to change the groom.”

“Even after cremation, you will never be able to get this wife back.”

ML is unlikable. FL is... I dont know. Fl's before ML or should I say her ex-boyfriend was more likable. His feeling is confused. But he didnt cheat. He was not scumbag. FL is smart and she knows he didnt cheat on her. Then why did she talk like human being?? Since she is so smart to the point even her family cant do anything. Then why did she just let go her boyfriend without explanation or something?? Then somehow author writed " she really kinda didnt love him." Like... more>> whyy??? Isnt she was the one who helps in his hard time. Besides they are together for years. She even decided to marry him. I.. I dont understand FL nor current Ml. To me, the current ML was like villian. I dont think he too dont love Fl. I come here for angst but I get frustration lol <<less

3.5 rounded up because I did enjoy the romance. It felt very respectful even though we find out how black bellied the ML was at the end. Like the very end which was rushed af and bad writing imo but ok

Pro: the relationship between the two of them, when they interact with each other, feels healthy and is overall respectful. For contract marriages the ML usually just traps the MC by going against his word and saying you can't leave, but do you know what the ML did to extend... more>> the marriage? He

just asked her if they could stay married. Yes he communicated. He asked for her permission. What a turn on for real

Con: this deducted a lot for me because the pacing of this novel was strange to me. I definitely feels like the author didn't know how to pace it well to end it well. Considering the villains don't feel 3d, the leads don't feel emotionally involved in the drama therefore I feel like it's hard for me as a reader to care too much about the drama, and because the overall tone of the novel felt although cliche still more fluffy than dramatic, the "revelations" in the last 2-3 chapters is really abrupt.

It just doesn't match the tone of the novel for me. I think what really gets me is that although yes this was a cliche rich person modern day novel thing, it had a lot of potential for it's romantic story up until the last third part that was lost due to its (happy ending but) different tone at end to the overall potential. I feel like some authors don't know how to end a fluffy romance in a satisfying way. That's basically it. But I still found it enjoyable enough. Just remember it's cliche. <<less

It was good but plain. I liked the start but it started to be boring as it went. I'm not saying it's bad. It's worth a try but I kinda lost interest after they got together. Moreover, I felt like the author placed a lot of emphasis on ... more>>

the fact that she wasn't actually madly in love with her ex. Almost like she changed her mind in between. MC cried after getting proposed as the ex proposed not because of their marriage contract (they broke it as ex got into a relationship with her cousin) but because he loved her. She also said that the wedding held different weight their hearts with her being more into it but midway through author says she liked him because of admiration, she wasn't madly in love as everyone thinks. This was repeated many times with her saying that the main reason she agreed to Qin Jue was because everyone said to give him a chance and she got a jade Buddha or so from her dean asked by QJ at that time. The author also gave hints that QJ didn't have friends there so he couldn't have been the one who just so that the ML could be one who did it. I don't mind the ML having more role, I would love that and she wasn't actually real with QJ but her past relationship was downplayed like nothing.
It also popped up from nowhere that she still had some kind of distance in her mind from her Grandpa whom she loved. Maybe it's MTL but her character was extremely confusing with first saying that she deeply loved and then saying that there was still something wrong and the only exception is ML. It's okay if it's the ex but why grandpa. An okay reason is given but why wasn't it even hinted at the start. This is not a major issue but I just found the MC's character not well developed but rather spontaneously added.

Most people may like it but it does loses its appeal as the story progresses. I'm not sure if the story gets better as I dropped it at ch 49 or 50. <<less

Although chapter 1 and part 1 of chapter 1 have been uploaded, why is it already rated so low? Based on what I've read it seems interesting and the summary gives me high expectations that this will be face-slapping filled novel (hopefully).
I rated it 5/5 to raise up the rating, I'll change it accordingly as I read the novel!!

I would like to disagree with the review of another person. And I mean I don’t agree with how they view the characters. They are not wrong because everyone has an opinion and they are entitled to it. I also have not finished reading this.

The ML, being born into a rich family was arrogant and pampered growing up. He did what he wanted and everyone else be damned. He probably didn’t do unforgivable things, but was without a doubt probably consider a bad boy tyrant at school. Then his father who while awkward with words but obviously expressed his love to his son enough was framed and so the motivation behind clearing his fathers name was not JUST because he refused to allow anyone to ‘step’ on him persay. It was because his father while not perfect or maybe even strictly ‘good’ was a good father. And his step mother either helped with the framing, kept her mouth shut after learning about it or was still just a sh!tty person and ran away as SOON as she could. He crushes the people who framed his father.

But basically he went from being a spoiled rich boy, to a poor fallen ‘prince’ anyone could step on. Still arrogant and prideful, he learned to be calm, cold, calculating and patient. All for the sake of his dead father, himself and any children he’d have if he was lucky enough. He was FORCED into changing, but now he also knows that he NEEDS that side of himself to keep him, the MC and their possible children safe. If he leaves any openings for people to exploit and hurt them, he’d be devastated and possibly alone again.

As for allowing the MC to believe it was her ex who did so many things for her, he saw she was happy. He hoped she would remain that way, he didn’t NEED to marry her. He needed her to be safe and happy, that’s what mattered the most, not his feelings or desires for her. This along with the mentioned stalker behavior is NOT normal, but not impossible. Also people are multi faceted, just because you may need or use only two different settings for your day to day doesn’t mean everyone else does. Not everyone has the luxury of always being simple and uncomplicated. Mental health and illness is a thing, and even if it’s not THAT serious... if he’s not hurting other people does it REALLY matter? He’s not treating anyone poorly other than people who wronged him and his... so why can’t he just be himself?

After figuring out the MC likes him as well, he doesn’t change who he is much or come right out and express his feelings. It’s not like he HAS to, unless she says she’ll leave unless he does or whatever that’s between him and her, their relationship. Possibly he was worried it would turn out like how she fell for her ex. She admired him and began to accept him in her life to the point of admitting to herself at least that she was MORE than just physically attracted to him, but romantically as well. Being comparable to the ex wouldn’t sit well with this prideful man, he would want it to be something completely different.

Not telling the MC that he was the one who did so many things that the ex either took credit for or was attributed to him by the MC herself. Why tell her that all along those things she originally held dear and then had her feelings shattered over were in fact him? To brag? ‘This is how much I love you? This is how foolish I am when it comes to you? Don’t be sad about those things anymore, it wasn’t him, so you should be happy about them again? Maybe to him her knowing that it was him and not the ex wasn’t the most important thing, maybe the most important thing was their present and future. Why bring it up and possibly make her feel bad?

The ex following the last wishes of a dead woman not even related to him. As someone who did something similarly s*upid for most of my life, I get it. The responsibility, trust and hope they express is NOT to be taken lightly. Considering that compared to his family the MCs grandma treated him better than they ever have. And after LOSING one grandchild and dying before knowing if she was still alive and well, she was possibly guilty for that and desperate for her other granddaughter to have someone to protect her. And possibly considered that if the MC was dead or did not return, that they would marry. He even states it himself, that the good feelings and guilt he felt over MC was what prompted him to even CARE so much about her and coupled with the grandma making a deathbed wish... he was a child. And like all humans, imperfect, foolish, and realized too late that the girl he cared for because he couldn’t protect the MC and then had given his word about, was no longer the sweet girl who he considered a sister.

Then the MC did not truly open her mouth to explain how she felt about the conflicts, she did not express the full extent of how she was treated by the uncle in law and her cousin and the cousins cousin, she did not explain how the things he said and did affected her in her heart of hearts, and how he disappointed HER and let HER down. If I have an issue with my SO I’m not gonna just shut my mouth all the time, either you address it and fix it or we can continue to argue until you do. I’m not going to let you just pretend I didn’t tell you I’m hurt because of you and let you continue to act in such a manner.

She did this because she was scared and worried, scared that if she TRULY expressed herself and opened up he would STILL be an idiot and refuse to see the truth and because she hadn’t opened up to anyone other than the orphans, even after she came home. She even expressed that she was only polite to her grandfather all these years and did not want to give him trouble because she understood that while she was also his flesh and blood, the cousin had spent a longer time with him thus being more likely to be loved and believed if anything happened between the two of them. She loved him, but not enough. She didn’t let down the walls enough or attempt to.

One of the reasons her and ML disagreed for all those years is because he KNEW she was being duplicitous. Mostly to avoid trouble and being hated by the people she cared for after being lost. Scared to be abandoned. She pretended for all those years to NOT have a temper. She hides and licks her wounds the comes back alter and keeps pretending to be calm and without the intention or desire for revenge or even capable of anger, the ML will hide to tend to his wounds and then pounce once he gets the chance, as a matter of fact so will she... but NO ONE ELSE KNEW THIS ABOUT HER EXCEPT HER FRIENDS AND THE ML BECAUSE SHE PRETENDED TO BE A CALM PERSON FOR SO MANY YEARS.

She herself and the ex are both wrong for how they treated each other. If they did not break up, more than likely they would have divorced if she couldn’t keep up the act until either he died first or she did... because that was who she pretended to be ALL THE TIME AFTER BEING BROUGHT BACK HOME.

Everyone here is s*upid in some way. But they are human... life isn’t rainbows and roses. It’s hard and complicated and messy. The MC would have lied to her EX until death, the ex unless he was presented with direct evidence by a 3rd party who had nothing to do with himself OR the MC then he probably would never have believed the truth if the MC got the evidence and gave it to him, let alone him going to find out himself somehow. The ML, also lied to the MC by technicality or omission. He ALSO could have given the ex the evidence pertaining to the cousin and her family if he had wanted to, but I don’t recall it being mentioned that he investigated them until after he married the MC. For someone so willing to let another man take credit for his actions as well as being a stalker that prioritized her happiness and such... just saying that kind of falls short. If he was that concerned about her, I’d like to imagine him making sure in the background to clear the obstacles for her. Not because he wanted to give the ex credit or didn’t want to give him credit anymore. The cousins cousin tried to get naked pics of the woman he loved to blackmail her into marrying him... her uncle in law who basically took over the MCs family founded and developed had cheated on her DYING aunt and hid the kid who could later become a problem, the cousin CONSISTENTLY treated her poorly by pretending to be a good girl to the ex... no need to be a yandere to take action in any of these cases, as they all threaten the MCs wellbeing in someway. In my opinion if I’m so I love with someone to the and kicked her out. If I was the ML I would have made sure that sh!t was worked on or resolved. Not because I wanted praise or acknowledgement, but because the person I loved would be safe and happy.

Humans and love or any emotion aren’t rational all the time, they aren’t just black or white or grey. Life is rainbow of nice pretty things and really bad sh!tty things, but there’s a lot in between there too. They are more human for being so flawed, they aren’t perfect, this is simply a story that while maybe not the best ever, is certainly a commendable effort by the author.

So many of these novels have characters who are basically just walking signboards that say ‘Hey! The writer of this is ‘x’ or ‘was treated like x’ so all the characters are so fake and forced to give the writer an escape from the reality of their life, and has very little depth or thought other than trying to over compensate these characters by making them so flat and one dimensional because they want to be the MC and whatnot, so they can feel better about the past or live out their fantasies.’ <<less

As a story it's not bad, it's certainly not a masterpiece but I've seen much worse around, but there's one thing that doesn't make me fully appreciate it, and it's the secondary characters. Not that they are particularly unbearable, I would say that they are quite average secondary characters in Chinese novels, dumb and insipid in the right place.

The problem is that they are inserted into the story without a shred of explanation, indeed it seems that they have always been there together with the main characters... and you no... more>> longer understand anything.

Quite a few time I have think "... and who the heck is this? I should know him/her? Has they already been mentioned and I don't remember? Am I s*upid? I should go back in the chapters to look for they? But I don't feel like..." and so you lose the desire to understand something and you read it just because you have it on the list.

Pity. <<less

Upstairs mentioned that the ex BF was villanized more than he deserved, we'll see till I reached ending.

LJ was known as QJs 1st love which is actually not true.

Lets see what he did so far.

... more>> He gave the jewelry from the auction to LJ because he thought. MC does not want it.

QJ went to the drunk LJ and told her, we'll celebrate Valentines tomorrow and he said the scandals/rumors between them are needed since she is a rising star.

Lastly, on the eve of their wedding, he went to LJ apparently, she slashed her wrist and MC had to attend wedding alone, be a laughing stock and ended up changing the groom.

When the MC and Lj were both kidnapped, he chose LJ.. Ahahha this guy

So far I am enjoying as she decisively switched to another man as her groom.

Finished after 2 days. It was HE. I can understand why she never accepted QJ back. ML was also scheming but silently loving her from the start. She found out all the clues and was happier with him, so that's fine for me.

The story is quite simple and not too many twist and struggles. It was just about a man who messed up his priorities while in a relationship because he made a promise to take care of the other girl, harming their relationship which made the MC tired, broke up with him and moved on with a man who really loved her. The ex tried his best to get her back after realizing that she was no longer there waiting for him. <<less

It is interesting. I feel like the Ex-boyfriend was villainized more than he deserved. We do not know all the details of their previous arguments but it is obvious from the story that he never understood the real issue she had. He was not a bad guy. He just did not understand what the issue was and was blind to the bad within some of the people around him.

The female character is good (strong, independent, action taker) but rather than those face slapping moments being satisfying, since Chinese novels are... more>> all about those, they just make me feel bad for the ex-boyfriend who still loves her.

It is a good story about how lack of communication/understanding about the deeper aspects of a person, such as what motivates them, can destroy a relationship.

(turns out the ex boyfriend promised the deceased grandmother to take care of her granddaughter when he was young which is why he helped out the homewrecker so much)

I'm glad that she didn't forgive Qin Yue/Ju because I hate when MC's forgive ML's who are involved with other women easily. Also the ending was not all that good. There was no closure as to what happens afterwards. Like I would like to know what happened to Lin Jiafei after she hit Qin Yue.

There's minimal character development for anyone in this story so it got kinda boring. It's great for those beginning to find interest in this kind of narrative plus it's a short read, yay (60+ chap)
