Lou Dian (reborn ML) and Lou Ling (not reborn, completely normal FL) are a pair of stepsiblings trying to survive in a modern day superpower zombie apocalypse on their planet, which is apparently not Earth (?).

In their past life, Lou Ling was a normal person who had no zombie superpowers, but she was a very capable and dependable tomboy who still managed to protect herself and her older stepbrother while he was still weak. Unfortunately, she ended up being schemed against and killed by Lou Dian's friends, led by a... more>> woman who was in love with him and jealous of Lou Ling. In revenge, Lou Dian killed everyone and himself.

After Lou Dian was unexpectedly reborn back to before the zombie apocalypse, he became determined to do everything he regretted in his last life. He started to pursue Lou Ling as a girlfriend rather than a sister, he became powerful enough to beat everyone, and he took revenge on everyone who harmed him in the last life. From Lou Ling's point of view though, her brother has just turned into a pe*verted weirdo.

This webnovel has a lot of issues, it is very far from PC and would probably cause twitter to vomit blood from anger. There's non-con, a single line of casual racism, questionable ideas about gay people, and a yandere ML who's more like "early 2000s anime yandere side character/antagonist who is always drawn with crazy faces and body twitches and eventually tries to kill the MC or their team and has to be killed off" than "shoujo/josei webnovel charming yandere ML". The author is also very opinionated and likes to go on tirades that sound reasonable enough at first but start to become tiring and arrogant after going through so many chapters. The writing and plot itself is also so boring that after 99 chapters I had to drop.

After all of that, why is my rating still 5*? Well, somehow I actually still enjoyed reading this. It might be because I've been reading a lot of "fake in*est" WNs recently for my rec list and a lot of them are unreadable garbage and this one is just gold in comparison, but there was also some stuff I really liked.

I liked how the tomboyish FL was actually strong and capable of protecting herself, especially in the early chapters when she's a completely normal girl but can still fight better than low level ability users. The ML is a little boring, and I honestly think past!ML would've been a more interesting ML, but I like that the ML's yandere-ness is actually justified in the story and not just a sudden unexplained character trait. I also liked that the ML's change in personality was actually noticed by the other characters, and I liked that the villains in the past life are pretty normal in this life (and honestly ML seems like more of a villain). The side characters are pretty varied and have their own life, though they do get annoying when they get used as puppets for the author to express their beliefs and values.

(Unrelated, but while I was trying to edit this comment the other day, I accidentally closed the tab group this was in. That group had 50+ tabs with webnovels/manhwa that I was reading or saving for future reads. This is a reminder to yall to be careful when reading webnovels late at night on your phone.) <<less

Don't be fooled by the synopsis that says "In this apocalypse, Lou Dian completely imprisoned her and became his possession!"

ML didn't really "imprisoned FL" but help and care for her instead.

Since it's in the Zombie apocalypse and the ML rebirths, you can see him having the secondary disease at the first few chapters, which can make you feel uncomfortable but it will get better guys, just trust the author. Heheheh

One of my fave bg zombie apocalypse story~

I personally feel that this novel makes the survival genre redundant. There's no excitement from risk anywhere, and even in those novels where the MC is quite overpowered it doesn't feel as if any and all danger is s**ked out entirely- this is the first for me.
Don't get me wrong, the issue isn't that the female protagonist is op but that her brother is and she has to be completely reliant on him, and it doesn't really help that I don't feel a lot of chemistry between those two... more>> and the FL is almost always unwilling, making the romance lacking in almost every way.

Of course the FL isn't a dodder flower, she's a hard worker but no matter how hard she works she will never be as strong as the male lead and the power imbalance is so obvious and romanticized it leaves me speechless. When I read this I often feel it's quite unfair, especially since throughout the novel you never see the ML train once and mofo is just a strong because of "future things".

Perhaps these tidbits are just me being nitpicky after having read so many apocalyptic novels, and ofc I still think you should try it after all it does have positive reviews. <<less

Rather than 'Twisted Personality', I feel that the tag 'Yandere' would be more fitting to describe the Lou Dian (ML) 's character. But he never does anything too crazy since he has the Lou Ling (FL) by his side, so there's that too. Oh, it should be mentioned that they're siblings, but not blood-related ones.

It is true that he never really imprisons FL; it's the FL feeling as if she's being imprisoned with the ML's crazy inner darkness.

However, it's also true that he would follow FL to wherever she wants...... more>> probably even if she didn't want him by her side.

As you can see from the title, there's the word 'Rebirth'. If you're wondering if the rebirthed character ever tells the other that they are as such, then the answer is:

Spoiler

No, no they don't.

The description is misleading. The ML turned black and a lunatic because of his experience during the apocalypse.

It's really good to read. Try it, its only a 100+ chapters anyway.

Read halfway through the story, too anti-climatic even compared to Mary Sue apocalyptic novels.

“Sensible” teammates who never questions even the most questionable. Otherwise, not very trustworthy if they don’t unconditionally trust MC or ML and had (reasonable) doubts.

Idiot cannon fodders that gets dealt with in the most anti-climatic ways.

... more>> Lacking even in the most cliches in apocalyptic novels.

Bland characters. Honestly, I like Lin Baobao more than the protagonists. She had a more profound growth that I consider healthy (in the apocalypse) compared to MC.

MC is good actually. Not a damsel in distress, good adaptability, has aptitude for fighting, positive mentality. She’s not OP, her strength doesn’t just magically appear, she trains and such. She could’ve been so much more but ML hindered that. I’m honestly more interested in MC from ML’s first life than now.

Now for ML, whom I consider the biggest variable that made the overall story lacklustre (aside from author). He’s just far too OP. He admitted he’s the most powerful in the world.
Spoiler

his abilities mutated cause of rebirth.

Like f*ck, his psychic ability alone that could kill long distance undetected by lower tiers (which basically means everyone to him) is OP enough. What more his space ability that literally has a lifetime supply of everything from hot n cold water, bathtub, even freshly cooked food like rice or even oden that he apparently collected 1 month before apocalypse. Come to think of it, it was vaguely hinted that he may have confused the mind of those people he bought supplies from so they wouldn’t question him.

[collapse]
. So it’s a giveaway that he’ll never be defeated nor will there be a considerably tough battle for him. So most likely, it will stay as anti-climatic as it is.

Also, I’m fine with cold outside but warm inside setting (special-target reasonable pampering is chef’s kiss), but ML is just too too dark mentally. I don’t think he’s a yandere like other readers do cause my understanding of it is “ily so iky” like in J anime. But he is indeed a psycho and I don’t like his ways.

Ex.
Spoiler

• He freakin pushed MC to the zombies right on day one “so she could adapt faster” like they were so pressed on time. Not even precautions like “they’re slow but be careful not to get even a scratch”. It’s MC’s first fr*cking zombie battle on day f*cking one! It’s really a miracle she made it out unscathed. Come to think of it they’re all still showing skin despite fighting close combat and on risk of being infected from a mere scratch🧐. But then again with ML this OP what more can I expect.

• He’s technically forcing himself on MC. Bluntly he’s a f*cking creep. But MC’s so lenient to him she can forgive him for anything “cause he’s the only relative she has left”.

• I like that he doesn’t restrain MC from socialising but body contact is a big no-no for him even from a close friend and kids. But again, MC’s so lenient on him.

• 3rd thing I hate about him next to being too OP and a creep, he never tells others of anything. Sure he’s cold, not much of a talker, and he’s fr*cking OP. But serious matters need to be told such as “Guys, the research institute has their eyes on us because of me. They can do very underhanded things so keep an eye open.”

[collapse]

Plus, as a s*cker for romance, I really don’t feel MC and ML’s chemistry. Does it even exist? ML basically does what he wants except carefully and slowly just to the point of not crossing MC’s bottom line. But does MC even have a bottom line for him? Maybe this kind of romance really exists? But it’s really not my type so, meh.

Theres more to the list but the point’s already come across so that’s that.

Long story short, MC has good foundation and story could’ve been better. But ML’s setting is too OP it overshadowed everything and just became lacklustre. <<less

This brother-sister pair is quite cute. ML is a yandere and FL is a white lotus, but both of them truly have each other in their heart. Most of their friends are good people so you won't feel betrayed. The world building is very standard. A good read if you like in*est, a so so read if you want action.

There is quite a bit of snu snu early on but the rest so far is just teasing. MTL is about 70% legible if you're a seasoned novel reader with a bit of common sense.. However, I'm still hoping another TL will pick it up. For example MTL has this paragraph... "Soon, he entered the small town. This small town looked very decadent, giving people the feeling of a dead town, just like all cities in the post-apocalyptic world, only a few zombies were left wandering in the street." I'm... more>> pretty sure "decadent" here means decaying/or declining.

Anyway, the ML lived through hell and betrayal so he was already blackened before rebirth. POV is mostly FL's and third person. In the previous life, the FL died from betrayal as she thought she was trying to save ML's life, which spurned his obsession with her. There seems to be a lot of guilt and regret as he avenged her in the last life by burying all those who are responsible along with her.

It was rather cruel of him to push her out to kill zombies early on, but from other reviews it sounds like all were within his control since he's able to manipulate the lower level zombies? It was a priority to have her acclimated asap... Kinda like throwing people into the pool and have them swim out in order to learn swimming? Cruel, but extremely effective and quick, because she needed to adapt and grow as zombies evolve. As it is explained, rather than developing powers like a lot of people, she's very ordinary so he hopes to strengthen her mind and body by force bc she lacks power. Although ML is overbearingly possessive, he supports FL in all that she wants to do. Except for leaving him or giving any other man/woman attention, he's always asking for her opinion and going along with what FL wants to do.
Spoiler

example of how meticulous ML takes care of FL is that he even made sure to bring skincare in his space for her... And while she eats he trims away her hair split ends for her. So when reviewers said he's mean for throwing her out to kill zombies so soon, I disagree because all were within boundaries of his control.

[collapse]

Spoiler

One thing that's super anti climatic was when they finally did the deed. After all that teasing the author just kind of breezes through the scene.

[collapse]

Is it wrong of him to SA her? Absolutely. Is it creepy that he wants her in that way as a step brother?? YES. But is this a fantasy? Yahhh. If this is not your cup of tea because you somehow think that this zombie apocalyptic world where a step brother has the hots for the sister and acts upon it with some non-con at first will gross you out, this novel is not for you so don't bother reading or giving a bad review because you ignored the warnings. Keep in mind that the ML already lived through the end of the world and experienced the worst of what humans had to offer so he's a bit insane.

Although the world building is unoriginal, I absolutely love these tropes. So far so good and it's unfortunate that TL dropped. <<less

I have a bit mixed feelings about this. I liked the characters of the plot, but somehow, the story had a lot of hits in misses.

It's a typical Rebirth Do-Over storyline.

Spoiler

The ML comes back in the past to 1 month prior to the Zombie Apocalypse. During this 1 month he supposedly travels the world and stocks up on supplies, food, weapons, resources, and everything you can think for an apocalypse. This is a logical approach for someone who knows the future. However, what's unbelievable is where is he storing all this stuff? Not to mention, is he stealing such stuff or buying it? Where did he get all the money to buy and how? For example, grenades and guns.

If the ML came back prior to the apocalypse, no one should have powers yet. In the future, he would have space powers, but at this point in time he shouldn't. And even if he did, wouldn't he start off at Level 0? Instead he can store cars, RV's, and anything in the sun in his space. It's just illogical.

There's a small mention that he's mutated since his Rebirth, but this is still illogical. How can he physically retain his powers from the future? This aspect of his powers bothered me quite a bit throughout the story because he's an OP character with not only his future knowledge, but with his OP powers as well.

As for the romance, it feels very off kilter. In the past life, the ML was not the love interest of the FL. After getting revenge on everyone directly or indirectly involved in the FL's death. The thoroughly blackened ML gave up and died himself, only to be rebirthed as former blackened character.

The result is that he's blackened obsessive ML that can't bear to have the FL out of his sight. Although, the ML & FL are step siblings with no blood relationship, it still makes an uncomfortable reading in the first half of the story because the FL obviously does not have any romantic feelings for him.

It's a given that the FL would eventually fall for him because the ML really does focus on the FL being happy and being herself. Despite that, it still doesn't feel like a normal romance. It almost feels like obligatory or a patronizing type of love.

The FL is a carefree type of personality. The type that doesn't sweat the small stuff. As long as it doesn't go badly for her, she'll just ignore all the negativity. So while she knows the ML is a ticking time bomb, she ignores certain signals and caters to his obsession.

So while I liked the ML & FL characters, the story wasn't very exciting. The ML's OP character did not provide any suspense in the story. Even the romance felt a bit flat, because even though the ML has an obsessive love. The FL struggles w/ their step sibling emotion & only gradually gives into the ML.

[collapse]

I am glad that it all ended happily. But it's definitely not something I want to re-read. <<less
