A Saint Who Was Adopted by the Grand Duke

I was forced to live in captivity for the rest of my life because I happened to be aware of the fact that I was a saint. I was truly a ‘real’ saint, but that didn’t matter, because there was already a designated saint in the temple.

When I died from all the abuse I endured, I was sent back to a time before all those previous events in my life had happened. After 15 regressions, I was exhausted. I prayed, “I don’t want anything to do with this, so please just let me die,”

And at that moment when I could finally be able to die, someone said, “How about being my daughter?”

…. That monstrous duke had adopted me.

This is a very good novel totally recommending it to you. I really want to know more what would happen with the MC but I unfortunately don't know where to continue it XD

It's quite a standard childcare rofan with real saint vs fake saint plot. What is slightly different is that the adoptive father, Deheen, is not instantly smitten by his new daughter (he adopted her only because that day, his twin sons said they wanted a sister and she intrigued him), but after he has fallen, he also realised he need to improve his relationship with his sons. And the male lead, Noah, is more of a "support" in this story. He might be the crown prince, but he is not... more>> super OP and he doesn't solve all the problems for Esther. He is quite cute, and I find he helps brighten Esther up, she is quite gloomy, given her past experiences.

I don't quite like how the main villains (temple, Rabienne, Duke Brions) are actually quite incompetent... they are just very greedy and self-serving. If they didn't have whatever their ancestors built up, they wouldn't have been able to cause so much chaos. They are quite one-dimensional. It's funny and interesting and sad the translator and some readers put in so much effort into analysing the characters' motivations and possible backstory (especially Rabienne).

But I can live with it, since going into this novel, I knew it is not going to be a social commentary or have a revolutionary plot. If it continues delivering revenge, fluff and peace, I will be satisfied. <<less

So I have found this story trough manhwa and I liked it a lot so I tried to find a novel. I love it and MC is so cute that I am cheering her on to get her revenge. Her father and brothers are awesome 👌 the story plot is interesting but maybe it's just because I love the revenge plots. I read all of the chapters in two days and can't wait for more!!! Good job translator!

The plot may seem basic at first, and I can't exactly disagree, however I think the author's skilled writing and subtle details make up for it. The details of each character makes them feel real. For example, the ML (Noah), is typically pretty mean and reserved towards others. For people he hates, such as the villainess in this story, he's super cold. But when Esther and Noah are together, you can tell they're comfortable with each other and are closer to each other than they are with any other character.

As... more>> for the plot, yea it's your typical rofan childcare novel, and a lot of people are especially weirded out by the fact that she's 12 but acts younger. For me, I think I can excuse that fact because she's lived a repetitive life of abuse 14 TIMES. She's finally found people who care about her and she's going back to being young and happy. I like this novel especially because it doesn't stress me out with a bunch of evil plots, instead it's a mix of plot and cute family moments. <<less

This is such a lovely story. Even though it followed the usual storyline of being adopted by a duke, it has a unique style of its own. The duke is not too cold to his children and the kids have their own behaviours.

Good premises, but turned pretty meh.

We have the interesting premise of an absolutely traumatized, suĩcidal, abused secret saint MC who found family in the grand duke and is telling her struggle to accept their familial love and find a will to live. After it was somewhat achieved, though, after everybody in the family adored her and praised how she ate cutely, played cutely, and slept cutely, everything turned dull and pretty much ineffective.

The scary grand duke who you thought would slash everybody for simply annoying him, not to mention picking... more>> a fight with him? Yeah, he's scary only because the author told you he's scary, but he was pretty much a scarecrow character. Okay, he stares at people too, so O.O.

Spoiler

He slashed that one guy from the prologue, and kicked some assassin? That's pretty much it. What's with the Look at this scary and badass DAD character build-up, if you never make any appropriately badass scenes for him anyway?

[collapse]

The love interest? Yeah, the guy just popped out in the story one day, already madly in love with MC, he's super handsome, smart, rich, and also a Prince. Yeah, It's boring.

The conflict, the tension, the plot—I thought we're going to get some intricate scheming battle from cunning characters plotting to destroy their opposition to achieve their goal? Nope. If you read the prologue, there's a particular dűmb priest openly asking the grand duke to return the saint. Most of the conflict is like that, it's pretty straightforward but somewhat inorganic at times, and there's barely any scheming at all. Heck, some of it even feels schupid comical to me.

Spoiler

-Hey Khalid, you're a Paladin from this moment, now go fetch me some of those sweet MC's blood, who is also the daughter of the grand duke and would be escorted heavily in her territory and would cause a war I didn't need if found out.

-Huh? The MC might've been my daughter? Let's panically go to her house, even though her father and I are pretty much hostile to each other, and let's not forget to behave suspiciously and ask him some suspicious questions too.

[collapse]

What kind of plotting is this? Seriously? How did this characters become a duke and a saintess?

There is some enjoyment value here and there, but now that the main story has ended, I don't think I'll finish the side stories. <<less

This is one of those stories where the temple's hubris, s*upidity, and blind ambition causes everyone to suffer needlessly. It's written well enough to be believable but also makes my blood pressure rise.

In their world, the Saintess is extremely important for maintaining world peace, & has the same authority as the king. MC & many other children, including Rabies the blonde btch, were all Saintess candidates, and the real Saintess would only awaken after the previous Saintess had passed away. However, the temple is 100% sure that Rabies family would... more>> produce the next Saintess, so they are just going through the motions.
Spoiler

Little did they know MC is Rabies' illegitimate half-sister & thus also fits the bloodline criteria

[collapse]

They take in children with divine power & say everyone is treated equally, but they favor the noble children & turn a blind eye to their bullying. They're also so greedy & internally corrupt, some of the priests help Rabies to poison the previous Saintess so she could become the next one quicker, and to also skip the confirmation of her divine powers. They directly announce her Saintess status and expect things to work out even though a real Saintess is needed so the country doesn't get destroyed. They are so overconfident in Rabies, they go all in on her & end up with -9000 because a plague breaks out & the fake Saintess can't do anything about it but be a btch, so the temple loses authority & is now probably going to get destroyed by an angry papa Duke.

In the previous 14 lives, MC was always caught after her awakening & used as a human divine power battery pack until her death, upon which the kingdom was destroyed anyways because some other girl awoke as the Saintess but Rabies the fake would not yield the position or power. MC was kept alive so that the fake Saintess could continue to pretend. It was explained that the blood of a Saintess gives huge boosts in divine power but is also very addictive to the point of driving people mad, so Rabies went from just being a btch to a psychopath who loved to torture MC for more blood. MC couldn't even die before she was completely exhausted of divine power because she had self-healing, so MC killed herself after years of torture every time. After being shown some of MC's memories (ch 134 ish), her father says he's seen the devil, and I think he meant that every bit.

The Goddess of their world isn't very useful throughout, & she's even the one who set up the whole blood addiction thing as 'punishment.' I think anyone in that world would turn agnostic after learning what MC had to go through. She was sent back in time over and over to try to prevent the destruction of the world, but literally each time just made her less interested in saving anything, even her own life. I've never seen a deity so good at causing her Saintess immense amounts of pain. Maybe there's a redemption in there somewhere but it's really just up to the Duke's family to get justice for MC now. At least their dynamic is adorable. <<less

I feel positive at the first few chapters of the story. I thought it was good, and had an expectation. Unfortunately, there are things that the author's ignoring that left me unsatisfied and is questioning the authors IQ or the MC's IQ, or she is prolonging things that are really unnecessary. It is probably the capabilities of the author that is lacking. Considering this is the MC's 15th life I guess? I am expecting her to be overly cautious in case her identity being exposed and what are the things... more>> she should do to avoid, and what she should do if she is exposed. But no. What I will mention contains spoilers.

Spoiler

First. I am expecting the so called intelligent brother of his, let's call him the name Dennis, to tell his father about what he found out - MC being a Saintess. Being an intelligent person, he should have known the consequences and the dire situation her sister is in. But instead of telling his father, he kept it to himself! Oh God I wish this intelligent person discussed the plans his sister will have or what are the strategies they gonna make to protect her sister or how to destroy the temple. But, I haven't read that far. All I knew is that 2 years have passed but no strategies mentioned, I guess that is a secret for now. But really? When will they gonna tell it to their father this very important matter? They know he is powerful, why aren't they telling him? The current Saint already died but he still does not know anything. How is he supposed to prepare or plan ahead if he doesn't know anything. Anyway, it's okay since it is the protagonist, even if she make the s*upidest mistake, she'll make it out, and will somehow become intelligent, awesome, amazing for being able to overcome that mistake she made.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Second. WTF is the MC doing, she knows it is over for her once the temple discover her identity. Why isn't she asking for help?? The two brother already know who she is, why is she not telling her father?? Is she going to surprised him?? Like wtf! "Omg, my adorable, amazing, cute, and best baby/daughter is actually a saint, that is so like her." Is that what is she hoping, Ik it is not. But this is frustrating me. As a person who have suffered for how many lifetimes, I am expecting her to be overly cautious regarding this matter. But she is too laid back, continuing her daily life. I am aware she is doing some stuff so that she has something to depend on. BUt, firstg of all, she knows it that is her father that is most dependable. I am aghast how laidback she is not telling him this, If one day she is discovered, what did she think her father will do? Ah, right. She has her brothers to tell his father that.

[collapse]

there are a lot of things to point out but that one is what I am very perplexed at.

Spoiler

Third. The current Saintess is dying. She knows that, they actually met. How come she does not try to cure her? Considering that her living is important to her as it will reveal her identity. Why she doesn't try to cure her or giver her strength or divine power so that she live for more years to come? The point is she should have tried, but no. The author doesn't have that in mind, she didn't even mention that a divine power won't work to cure another saintess. But the Saintess herself was able to at least cleanse herself after knowing she is being poisoned. Hah! Curing or giving the current Saintess strength or divine power should have crossed her mind for her to have a few years to prepare. Lah!

[collapse]

anyway, this is really frustrating me because I had an expectation. But never mind. I specially registered just so I could write a review, and blurt everything I am dissatisfied with. Anyway there are flaws, but I will stick to see the end. Although the flaw of the story is questioning, I want to see where the Author go, and want myself to be surprised just in case I am wrong. Maybe, there is something the Author hasn't revealed for a big revelation or thrill. Though, that happening has a very slim chance

For this story to have a high rating, I am very disappointed. But, I am aware that everyone has different taste, this is just not up to mine, considering the standards I have set.

Anyway, the translation is exceptional, and thank you for the hardwork translator-nim <<less

Story progress is good.

Revenge element is going nice but a bit slowly.

Same with the fluff towards family - though cliche overprotective brothers and father.

A bit unsatisfied with the romance. The flow was unnatural, in my opinion. And it also doesn't explain very well how the CP and the saint were related before.

I am currently reading this at wuxieworld. Site.

As only 1 chapter is showing here.

This is such an adorable story with lots of cute family moments. With strong determination, regardless of the past lives she isn't destroyed she makes those experiences her strength.

I really like this novel. Esther is so adorable but the lives she has lived are so horrible. Throughout the reading, you want to do two things: hug her and go blow up the temple. Luckily her new family is there and I hope her new daddy will blow up the temple for us!

This is killing me T-T I am searching everywhere but can only get to chapter 8, I am so glad that this baby has been adopted because when I found the raws they were an image file so I cant google translate to read ahead T~T. I adore our MC and I cannot wait to read more. The MC so far is a strong character that has gotten a bad hand 14 times and now finally caught a break. She is suspicious of kindness but isn't a loud character but... more>> mature. And if you think about it she was sent back 14 times to right before the previous saint died so she hasn't had the opportunity to really grow or build skills like most loop living MCs. So I can't help but hope to read scenes of her getting to enjoy childhood, I am a big sucker for siblings in stories and this Duke is actually a good father figure to his kids and likes the MC so he is so far the most perfect Dad (I am sorry Claude but lets be honest I would rather be this Duke's kid) so please please please let this continue Help me Maroon-san, You're my only hope T-T <<less

This looks super promising so far. I almost cried reading it, the MC has been through so much and I just want her to be happy. It looks like we’re gonna get to the fluff soon, so far we’ve only gotten to the her being adopted part- but I’m really excited for what’s to come from this novel (I’m so excited for her to meet her new brothers!)

then really nice story towards the end. Maybe it loses a, having read the prologue I thought the story would go another way. Unfortunately the thing I'm not crazy about are the secondary stories. Nothing interesting. That is, at the end he tells the post-story, but in itself we already know how it would have gone.

If your looking for romance, this novel is not for you since it’s more of a side plot. BUT if you love seeing heartwarming family dynamics or a story that focuses on the relationship between a father, daughter and his brothers then JUST READ IT.

Esther was a beautifully written protagonist, she wasn’t overpowered but she wasn’t weak. She’s not naively kind, she was kind to those who were kind to her or didn’t do anything particularly offensive against her but cautious and distrustful of those who didn’t treat her... more>> kindly.

Also the pacing of the story was just right perfectly catered to my tastes. Not too fast yet not too slow. <<less
