Lee Junghoo died in a car accident. He braved each and every hardship in Jaiden’s body in hopes that he would survive once he cleared the game of the gods, but just when the Empire’s strongest family was about to fall and be killed by the monsters…

[The Beta Test has been completed.] Based on these words, it seemed like he still had another chance.

1 Stop the destruction of the continent.

2 Survive until the age of 35.

He was given these two main quests. He had tried to finish the first one during the beta test. However, he realized that there was no solution to this problem. So this time, he was going to pick the second.

And the first step for him to achieve this was to leave this crazy family of his.

“Maybe the answer is running away from home?”

Boring. 90% of the novel is just other characters praising the gary-stue protagonist: "Wow, even though he's just 12 years old he's already so strong/smart/thoughtful. I'm sure he will become a great figure in the future!." Rinse and repeat for 40 chapters.

The author clearly never heard of the saying "Show, don't tell".
Had to stop reading it after a few dozen chapters because, honestly this feels more like a extensive summary than a story that I am able to experience and lose myself into.
Gonna leave this unrated, guess I just wanted to rant a bit for the time I wasted on this.

First, let's go over the one thing that has been annoying me by no small extent. The translation.

I'm always thankful to anyone that translates a novel, and, as such, I'm thankful to WoopRead for translating this novel. With that said, unfortunately, this translator feels like a child that learned a new word and uses it all the time. What word? There are two. The first is "Rolling" and the second is "To eat jjambap". You will see these 2 words on average 8 times per chapter. I'm serious. Anything that... more>> they have to do, is considered "Rolling" and anyone who has any kind of experience or lack of experience is "To eat jjambap". An example:

"I’m sure you’re the one who will do the best since you have eaten the most jjambap (you are the most experienced), right?"

"This was a place where rolling around (working) alone did not make any sense."

To give you a sense, in Chapter 40 (the latest one), the word Roll is used 16 times and the word jjambap is used 5 times. This gets very annoying, very quickly. But, as long as you can ignore this, then the translation is fine.

Now, to the Novel itself. The Novel is a standard Isekai, where the main Characters gets thrown into a world and as to survive the dangers of the world. The novel starts at the end of his first time (a.k.a. The Beta), then, once it ends, he is sent back to the very start to do the "Real deal". His Character is a noble that is average at best, but of a lunatic family that worships strength. Thus, he decides to leave the family and join the Army, since he would be able to become stronger and not have to deal with everything related to the family (danger and politics).

The reason I give this novel a 3, is that, even though that was his objective, he joins the hardest army (Northeast) and gets embroiled into a political battle. So what was the point of not staying with his family? Anyway, the novel is a pretty solid Isekai. So if you don't have anything better to read, I recommend reading this novel. <<less

Actually, I want to rate this novel at 9/10 but Novel Updates doesn't have that kind of rating system so I put 5/5 as my rating so that it doesn't downgrade it so much.

First of all, I hate to admit it but I very much disagree with most of the reviews here. The reason?

Spoiler

1. Okay, fair enough. The plot didn't actually thickens and have very many cliches from the beginning to the end. Despite having such, it was decent. Not all of people hate cliches. There are a lot of them yet, there are also many people who dislike cliches such as this. (Y'all know SL? Yeah. Almost everybody knows and you know how a few of SL fans would say "This is a carbon copy of SL!" whenever manhwas or Korean novels have the word 'Necromancer' in MC's job? Yeah, exactly.) It was a matter of personal tastes. For me, this novel, which has a lot cliches, I mean, a lot, is my very cup of tea. Cuz' you know what? This novel brought out the cliche on a whole different level. (In my opinion anyway)

2. The characters. Though it seemed as if all the characters except our MC were described and portrayed lukewarmly by the author, they still left somewhat deep impressions on me. It's not wrong to say that the characters were all boring. In fact, you have every right to do so. The MC himself is not your usual MC who would bulldoze everything his way. He struggled tremendously, worked harder than anyone, smart but sometimes an airhead and he pave down his own path little by little with other characters' helps. It might seem that the side characters here are just used as fodders but they aren't. It was amazing in itself that the author didn't actually kill them off.

3. Setting and world building. Honestly, when I saw the reviews which were saying that the world building sucks to the point I got tired of it, I thought 'Welp, it does seem that way.' I mean, who would do something like... recruiting someone with the early age of 9 to become a human weapon? 'They're still kids!', is what most of you thought but the academy had its reason too. As you know, just from the summary alone, the world MC lives in isn't a very exactly peaceful place now is it? I know where they're coming from God's Game or whatever it is, was making the whole continent burnt down to the ashes with almost no reason at all. The MC's objective was to survive, right? That was why he left his family and many people question as to why he would join a freaking army that has the most difficulty if he escaped his family in order to protect himself. First of all, if he did do to an ordinary military, he had no reason at all to join a military in the first place because you know what? He knew fully well why he did it. In the future, if he ended up with just joining an ordinary military, he would certainly become monsters' meal without fail. Furthermore, that body of his was talentless and that's exactly why he joined the hardest and most dangerous academy out of all academies existed in the empire, that is... to hone his skill. Without the academy to push him to his limits, he would end just the way he ended up in his past life. Forcing through the fifth stage and making it incomplete which was one of the reason why he died. It all actually make sense if you think about it.

4. And... Bruh. Why did so many people complain about the translation? Heck, I prefer the translation the way it is! There are so many phrases and slangs that are hard to translate to english. For example, Jjambap. The translators use this quite a bit. Well, a lot actually. However, the word Jjambap itself has long definition and instead of using just 'Experience' which doesn't even define the meaning of Jjambap. The translator used this word to explain the situation further than just with the word 'experience'. Make sense, right?

[collapse]

Give it a read until 60+ chapters or so before you decide whether you want to continue reading or not. Cuz' this novel has so much potential ahead. <<less

at one point it felt like he's collecting Pokemon, with a repetitive pattern in events. But still an interesting read if you get past that point.

I'm quite confused. How come there are so many bad reviews? I almost didn't read this because I saw so many people say bad things about this. It's not that bad, in fact, compared to some absolutely horrendous novels, this novel is awesome.

Some people complain about the time skips, and the fact that the author doesn't explain. Are you people blind? How didn't the author explain? Everything was explained, there was nothing wrong with the way it was explained. Y'all just want the author to talk about every single tiny... more>> detail. If the author actually did that, you people would complain that it's too long or that there were plot fillers. You can never be satisfied.

Then, you complain about the world building and the characters. I don't really see anything wrong with the whole thing. Fine, there might have been some flaws but it didn't really matter much. And the author started correcting the mistakes later on. The characters don't need to be elaborated on, cause honestly, they weren't that important. If the author had gone on to build on every character or some characters, it would have taken away from the plot or deviated into something not good and as usual you people would have complained again. After all, the novel is focused on the main character surviving the game. That's it, SURVIVAL. So he works towards that and doesn't want to be distracted. Despite this, the MC still allows himself to form bonds here and there but he doesn't forget about his main goal. Be satisfied jeez

Then, the whole jjambap and rolling. Honestly, I didn't see how it was annoying. Fine it was a bit repetitive but that's what the author wants and somehow it worked with the tone of the novel. And it really didn't take anything away from the plot either. So I don't know why some people are so fixated in that.

I'm not saying that there weren't flaws in the novel, but honestly 98% of novels have some kind of flaw. It's normal. But compared to some other horrendous novels out there, this novel isn't that bad. So y'all should stop complaining so much and just enjoy the reading experience, stop expecting 200% from every author. <<less

It had a great start, a fantasy game world where the MC tries a completely different path after failing the first time, but it degrades overtime and gets repetitive, around c38-40 the author starts to use a slang (jjambap, I guess it refers to having experience, like life and practical experience) over and over again and put it on every possible phrase, it gets so annoying I just wish the translator used something else instead.

"This guy thinks he can fool me? he didn't eat enough jjambap!"

"He was able to skillfully... more>> sweep the snow to the sides thanks to years of eating enough jjambap."

"This bastard. Do you think you can do this as a sergeant just because you ate a lot of jjambap?"

I don't blame the translator for keeping the slang jjambab and the 'rolling' thing, its the novel author that overuses it too much, if it was just something on occasion then it would be fine, that slang is being used since chapter 12 and it was nothing much, but around chapter 40 it seems the author wants to test how many jjambaps and roll/rolling he can fit on a chapter or something...

It's f*cking annoying. <<less

A huge let down.

The start of this novel was genuinely good, I felt a simple yet nice connection towards the protagonist which is essential for the reader to continue, but soon enough I noticed things that really put me off.

  • The author hasn't placed a character that you could care for, everyone else in the story just feels empty and bland, like they're clichés on top of clichés.
  • Too much unnecessary exposition, it's feels as if you're belittling the audiences intelligence, either the author hasn't picked up any techniques to create a more efficient novel or this is his actual writing style, which makes things worse. Usually descriptive novels are great, but in this case it's downgraded the novel overall, they even explain how the student years worked from 1-6 in such an unnecessary manner, like repeatedly telling us that "The 6th grade is harder than the 5th." Or such. It makes the reader roll their eyes at it begins to feel like you're on a chore because of it.
  • The novel feels unfocused, sure the growth of the protagonist is shown but it's like in fragments, it feels rushed as the time skips really give it the vibe as if this particular part of the protagonists rise doesn't matter. They show other characters but only for them to be a stepping stone inorder for everyone to praise our protagonist, as I've mentioned they're cliché.
  • The world building is glossed over, The world is just a huge question mark to us readers, the novel points out that the north, south have different houses that remain dominant in that place, yet that's it, there's no other explanation so far, like how kingdoms worked, how the world itself worked, they're all glossed over and simply ignored.
I had fun until these parts as the characters are just too.. Boring

This novel is too much based on the Military. So much that MC Iron acts like a dunce.

In the story, Iron is stubbornly attached to the Military. Unlike other people who regress and look for cheat skills and treasures realistically, he is an idiot who does not seek them.

In his whole regression period, Iron never went to find any treasure or something similar which could help him.

And due to this many top-grade artifacts became useless by the time he reached them. Every single OP treasure got destroyed by the time... more>> he reached them; he was too late. I get it that author wanted to show his individual power, but he is just so absorbed in the military that he forcefully made Iron walk a path other regressors would never walk into.

Before the regression, he had a fragment of Dragon Heart and other things, but now he has completely ignored everything. He ignored his family's powers and resources and went into the Military to become a commander when he could have easily gone for the mercenary route, practised while searching for artifacts, and get his family help when needed.

Another brainless thing from the author is that every single enemy of the Empire joined the enemy forces.

The enemies who know every single detail of Empire and Army and had spies everywhere didn't know that everyone besides the centre hated the Empire? This is baffling how not even one of them tried to cooperate with the Armies who hated the Empire. Every one of them dies in the hand of our hero Iron by staring at him blankly while saying why they didn't meet sooner.

Author is too fixed on the military side of things and ruined various elements of the Novel. The side characters in the Army are forgettable. They are not helping in his progress. He is doing everything alone but is also forced to babysit the side characters in the Army as if he is a regressor nanny. Mind it that I am not against him becoming a nanny but its mind-boggling to see an MC being limited by the Military which Author forced on to him,

Iron should have gotten a divine sword and other artifacts like armor and other equipments. He should have made magical tools with the help of his modern knowledge, but he spent all his time role playing in Army made by Author. I am not saying anything baseless, in the very same novel others who came from modern world did all these things to get power almost equal to him in less than 2 years.

This novel deserves 2.7 or 3 stars at best. Premise is good. Background is good. But execution is flawed. I am all for military being the major part of an MC power, its really cool, but not when MC is forced to babysit whole Army and every single side character around him is useless. The family he escaped from was crazy, but it was his own father who helped him more than most of the side characters who appeared in the Army, that's bad these characters are, they are written to show how strong MC is compared to them, not a single one of them is helpful to his growth as a character. <<less

I like it, MC is likeable, story is okay, pacing is also good. There aren't much info on the side characters but I'm hoping that'll come up later on the story.

We are constantly reminded that MC isn't talented or OP in the story, but he kinda is cause of his experience from his previous life and also gaining different titles from his new life. But hes not an OP ass kicking god which is what I like.

Currently MC is in the military academy and stuff are happening, I'm just waiting... more>> for MC to quickly grow up cause 9 year old kids aren't my thing

The premise seemed so interesting but the author is just not a talented writer. The characters all feel two dimensional and I feel no connection to them whatsoever. The action seems are anticlimactic and nothing ever feels like it has stakes. The world building, plot, and pacing seem good but the whole thing feels empty and it makes it a pain to read.

I'm rating 5 because Jaiden needs rest.

I love this so much I haven't had proper sleep ever since I binged read this like a lunatic. Contrary to other reviews, I personally like the narrative since the image in my head is vivid. The pace is also fine for me. It's politics, military, and strategy heavy.

Spoiler

Jaiden becomes OP, of course, but he has so much on his plate and he takes responsibility of it all, so much that I really pity him. He doesn't get conceited and he has a proper grasp on his abilities; he's also not dismissive to others and remain humble (sometimes too much, but that stems from his feelings of inadequacy).

He becomes OP due to his hard work, and even then that power has a price (every dangerous enemy is legit out to get him). He's now in my favorite self-sacrificing bastards list (along with Cale Henituse and Kim Dokja).

The entire novel is just about fighting monster herd again and again. Protagonist fights a monster herd, defeats them, power ups, gets recognized and called hero then moves onto the next fight. Rinse and repeat until he saves the world. That's literally the entire plot of this novel as far as I've read. Talk about creativity. No idea why this novel has a high rating.

What I like about Korean novels is that they are short and concise, telling all the necessary plot movements even with the lack of character interaction (Japanese have too much instead though)

There is more on large scale wars, race fights and small politics

Another big plus is the MC not acting like a wimp, or anything unlike a regressor

I like how confident the MC is, fails when he need to, knows his deficiency like an adult, not like an OTUEE (OP ans whimpy) Japanese MC or I KNOW EVERYTHING FROM... more>> THE WEATHER TOMORROW TO YOUR DAILY PANTIES CHINESE MCs <<less

I am enjoying the story, however, it sometimes gets hard to read. Im not saying that the translation is bad, however, it only gives me the feeling that I want to put off reading it. Overall, the story isn't bad, and I love the way the MC does things. He's a very well written character, but I would've like the side characters to have more development. It's not perfect, but it's very good,

Fun read when I’m bored, the translation is decent though can certainly be improved in sentence structures as well as vocabulary used to achieve better translations.

The actual novel itself is pretty interesting, with good world building and character development. Plot itself is pretty fun to go through.

It started off quite promising with a war themed fantasy setting. Unfortunately it gets bogged down quite fast and the story / plot gets boring (and predictable?) as we know the "one thing" MC is thinking of is surviving by making his allies stronger before D-day (and this day is arriving at a snail pace...). Instead of making honing his skills or trying to make alliances with other powerful vassals in the empire / other foreign kingdoms, he is stuck at an outpost???

I would not recommend this for those that... more>> are looking for political intrigue and warfare, this feels more like a slice of life (growing up slowly in an academy with sword and magic theme). <<less

The beginning and academy arc are fire. I love the dynamic between him and his youngest brother, the “I don’t have talent but you do, so survive” is cool.

but after the academy arc, it fails to reel me in, it kinda gets boring since it’s basically just “oh monsters, we kill them” plus I kinda wished his family took a more active role once they found out where he was instead of “ok we’ll show you that our way is better”

love the length of the chapter, there is no a single chapter that feels empty or unnecessary that I often saw in another novel.

another type of MC that have information from future to use it to his advantage. So far the author seem lack the ability to write a better character. Their interaction seems only for the plot to progress but it was not a deal breaker for me.

Not the perfect story, it can get better but it was a fun read :)

So, just so you know this series goes a really long way. And I mean REALLY LONG WAY. It's more of a chronicle rather than one storyline.

The review that starts with "Why do Koreans hate god so much?" only reviews up to ch130+. If they read around 200+, their review will change. The world and the "God Game" has so many secrets behind it. Suffice to say that everything before 180+ is a prologue to the whole scenario, and only then will MC's alignment and loyalties solidify. That's all I'm... more>> gonna say because I'm too lazy to put spoilers (otherwise this would be a thesis, not a review).

The review that says "they keep praising a 12 year old" also would change their review if they read past the first 70+ chapters. The world building actually stretches along with the story and his academy days are super fast-forwarded that everything that happens are purely narrated. This part barely has any dialogues, and basically only highlights events that will be relevant to later parts of the story. Consider it as the 1st part of the story's extremely long "prologue phase" (around 180+ chapters). Everything that happens here are relevant and important once the story picks up at ch100+.

Granted, this is really not for everyone. It's my cup of tea though.

Its pacing is different from what most stories like this employ. It definitely tries to compress all the stuff that happened prior to his graduation at the academy, so it might sound to some as repetitive praising of a 9-12 year old genius--which I do not deny, but I don't hate it either because the narration is comfortable for someone like me who likes to de-stress reading stories and not add more stress to my life dying for cliffhangers. It definitely sounds like a huge summary of his academic life like what you see in spoiler threads though.

After that, it slowly transitions to detailed interactions with MC and other characters. This is where dialogues start to come in. The "God Game" interface also doesn't really make much of an appearance before this but now it picks up. Now, with every battle he faces, it gives him titles as rewards, but that's about it for this phase.

Then eventually, THINGS HAPPEN and so the interface becomes more active and prominent until a full-blown apocalypse wrecks the whole continent. Is that a spoiler? Meh, you know it isn't because monsters = apocalypse anyways.

Well, the pacing pretty much ramps up and slows down depending on the importance of the events.

However, take note that this is heavily similar to "Tr@sh of the Count's Family" and "Ex-rank Supporting Role's Replay in a Prestigious School" where the MC ends up sacrificing himself every single damn fight.

MC always only barely keeps his life because man's nerfed af. I mean, he's OP relative to his own age group and his own camp, but against the things he fights, he's too damn weak. The context here is that all humans are severely weak compared to other races, so amongst humans, he's one of the most promising, but being a human by nature means he's supposed to be weak against non-humans so his "perks and advantages" only barely keeps the enemies in check.

I think there was only one occurrence where he has a natural attribute advantage to the general monster type he's fighting against, but he still ends up almost dying to that particular monster type's last boss.

It might change past 200, though, IDK. At around 170+ his allies start pulling their weight--this too is related to the "progress" of the God Game.

Welp, I think that's it. This ain't much of a review, I know. I focus more on storyline rather than other aspects because that is what I look for in a series. I'm not too picky whether it's cliche or not because I mean, isekai and transmigration stories have always existed for ages. (Remember "Peter Pan", "Narnia" and "Alice in Wonderland / Through the Looking Glass"? Yeah. It's just more prominent now because of how the current modern world is vastly different to our idea of a "fantasy world".)

I do have other criteria (like non-harem) but what I look for in a series is execution of events which I think this series does well enough. The comfortability of narration and flow is also a huge plus in my books because again, I love stories that don't stress me out too much.

This story does have a fair amount of cliffhangers, but you won't die hanging. And while there are annoying characters, they're not exaggerated (the point where you say, "Do humans really act like that?") and they have good enough character developments as well.

Most of all, character relationships are wholesome--even with his family which he ran away from. Thing is, he says he hates them but he doesn't really hate them, and the family by nature are merely muscle-heads who only follow the strong and his father admitted his oversight realizing that there is no one path to becoming strong. I just think he was unlucky in his past life that he did not realize his own path. He was also focused more on the Game and quests rather than actually living his life so he missed opportunities and made wrong decisions. Even though he "hates" his family so much, he actually is very similar to them--TENACIOUS and UNHINGED. His family doesn't also bother him that much because they're only obsessed with training--same as him. His brothers are even adorable. Just read until 160+ and you'll get it.

Sure it's imperfect but overall, a good enough story for me.

For those looking for extreme OP action stories like Solo Leveling, this ain't for you, but if you want to relax and read loosely, letting yourself be led by the story without too much judgment, then you might wanna give this a try. <<less
