The Antelope and Night Wolf

LingYang spent 500RMB to buy a ladyboy account, and it came with a husband?

Just after logging into the game he was informed that the account was in debt, and he had no choice but to sell himself and act as a couple with his ‘husband’.

LingYang: I only bought an account, why must you force a husband on me?

YeLang: You can also choose not to take the husband but the debt instead.

LingYang: Dear, can I not have the free gift?

YeLang: Sorry, it’s a bundle, no returns allowed.

At first glance, it’s a story about how a little antelope accidentally entered the embrace of a big-tailed wolf after escaping from a tiger’s den.

But it’s actually an inspirational story about how an innocent straight man was actively turned gay by a little bottom with a boots fetish, then went through a series of complex mentality changes, finally becoming a cold-blooded, black-bellied S top!

I am not ashamed to say that I—on multiple accounts—have skipped chapters to immediately dive into the NSFW scenes.. Because wow- they were awesome!

I think it was cute albeit confusing at times. I don’t have a boot fetish but I can see where MC is coming from. A man in a uniform is *chef’s kisses*. Props to the TL because I personally think translating gaming dialogue equates to some degree of hell & there was a lot of it in this novel. I didn’t pay too much attention in the... more>> gaming mechanics of it, but moreso the interactions between the main CP.

TL;DR I read it for the smut lol <<less

The first half was good, but the rest just... I dont know how to say it. Like WTF, From where that's all bd*m things come from??? (Well im not kind of people who hate bd*m stuff, but come on... im not even have a clue about why there must be bd*m stuff) and about the plot (MC Past) was really good to, but the way the author finish it, just kinda flat... well 10/10 for the first half and 4/10 for the rest,

Gosh. I really can't stand the lies that keep piling up, chapter upon chapter. The MC seems to have a habit of lying, to the point that it becomes frustrating.

Moreover, I am not convinced by how the story suddenly turned into BD*M. Like seriously? I have no problem reading BD*M or any novel where the main character has fetishism, yet ML's character setting's change was so abrupt that it feels unreasonable—not enlightened. Although the writer tried to throw the reasons in here and there for both the MC and the... more>> ML, it still doesn't make much sense.

It's 2.5 stars for me. I'm usually very generous with rating novels, but I really can't tolerate this kind of MC.

Edit : Alright, I returned to finish this novel after leaving it on the shelf at chapter 47 for almost 2 years. Since I still vaguely remember the former half, combining it with the rest, I think it's actually not that bad after they cleared up the misunderstandings and when the MC finally managed to fix his habit of lying. Besides, the fact that there is not much angst in the later half of the story, just them happily dating and gaming together, is pretty light-hearted and cute.
Spoiler

Apart from Meng Hu parts, ofc. This man is so good, unbelievably good, to the point that I wanted to hit the MC for his communication errors multiple times while reading their past story. Damn it, Meng Hu is such a high-class childhood sweetheart. Even I was jealous of the MC *bite a handkerchief*.

[collapse]
So, I've decided to increase my rating for this novel a bit, even though I still don't get the BD*M that appeared out of nowhere. <<less

Thank you for bringing us this amazing novel! The story was so unique and carefully written and the wonderful translation brought it justice!

First, I DO NOT recommend this to those of you who want a quick bubbly read to rest their minds;

Second, I HIGHLY recommend this to those who want a bubbly read with undertones that make you want to think more while or after reading, both about the themes this story pushes to the surface and the story itself.

Now, a wall of text and super heavy spoilers below! (Probably... more>> here just to ramble a bit with people who already read it before)

Spoiler

I am still ruminating on the aftertaste, it was sweet yet sour, I still hope Tiger would have a good future ahead of him bc he’s the only unfortunate one to have a “nice guy card” and “not the one” plastered across his whole existence. Even though we saw so many fluffy stories where his type was the best choice, but here Antelope’s appetite is clearly stated as being quite unique from the start and it’s the only thing that kept me from being subjected to onion ninjas on behalf of this beautiful yet unfulfilled romance.
Being a Tibetan mastiff and finding yourself such a lover as Ye Lang who could see through your misgivings and accept you wholeheartedly, digging for information and Ling Yang’s preferences himself without making him talk about his insecurities and re-opening the wounds is such such such (important things must be repeated 3 times!) an amazing feat it totally made me worship Ye Lang as a man. Loving such a person as Ling Yang with not that big yet quite heavy baggage is really a tough job which Ye Lang is doing almost perfectly. When he messed up and apologized immediately we could clearly see that not only his dominating side was awakened by Ling Yang, not only the amount of love and play is in balance in their life, but the amount of mutual trust and respect as well. While I was afraid at some point that this deep love could, if mishandled, result in total destruction of a person, Ye Lang shoved not only Ling Yang but me as well that he is worthy of trust. Not being an omnipotent god or overbearing ruthless CEO who stomps and destroys your enemies doesn’t necessarily mean he could not devote himself to protect and shield Ling Yang from harm.

[collapse]

Reading this was a feast and then thinking of the things this novel puts to light was a kind of different satisfaction, I also feel the pleasure of mind, body and soul just as our main CP, and I sincerely want to thank those people and series of events that brought me to experience this. Who would have thought that such small body of novel after reading the cavity inducing YBPGVW would make me feel and think so much.
At last, I hope that just like YBPGVW our YangYang would happily make waves while Ye Lang would shield him from behind, being such an eye catching shiny gem-laden MT as he is~ <<less

at chapter 55 was when there was any relationship development between the MC and ML. I found the MC to create a bunch of s*upid misunderstandings though he was constantly called clever and the ML to be naive to such an extent that I can only call him s*upidly obtuse.

I actually couldn't finish this series. It was okay but the relationship development between the MC and ML was entirely to dramatized and to be quite honest really s*upid.

This story is so good!!!!!!!! I really didn't expect it to be as funny and sometimes sad as it was but 5 stars!! The ML had super nice character development it really made me cry towards the end, I saw some reviews saying the ML was boring but they probably didn't read until the end >.> how is YeLang boring ah?!?

The bd*m part was also a nice bonus! I don't see many CN novels at all with a bd*m element and I think the author did a great job with... more>> it ~~

A really cute story with great plot about a hungry wolf catching the little antelope~ definitely re-reading! I'm not worthy of such a great story!!

As it was said here countless times, I'm loving this novel all over except for those BD*M parts. They just don't fit in the plot.

The MC is incredibly lovable, not your typical silly and weak girly type, but a lively, energetic and scheming little devil. I absolutely love him! Unfortunately, I haven't come across this type in other novels. Even though he'd been through very tough moments he's still able to be himself and keep on moving forward. I'd like to call him my role-model, cough, except for the part... more>> with boots.

Despite knowing who ML was since the beginning, since the title makes it quite obvious, I was still hoping for a change till the last moment. The character of the Wolf had been through some changes but nevertheless his personality is still a mystery in my eyes. On one hand, he's your cold, heartless rich young master, but on the other hand he's just an impulsive little kid who doesn't know how to control his own desires. I just don't get it. He's supposed to be the leader in their relationship, the reliable partner who can protect our vulnerable on the inside MC, but I feel like it's ML who needs someone to guide him through his childish acts... Well, he is not my type for sure, let's move on!

The plot and in-game interactions made me laugh so much! As a former hardcore gamer, I enjoyed those gaming elements and was trying to find some similarities with the games I'd played myself. It's quite regrettable that it's highly unlikely to inadvertently come across someone from your own town, I wish I'd given a chance to experience such a wonderful friendship~ And I found the fact that MC was using the same mouse as I did in my glorious Lineage II and AION days very amusing! (it must be Razer Naga, right?)

It's a very nice story with a decent plot. The author stated all the warnings before the first chapter so everyone can decide for themselves whether they can accept it. Althoguh I didn't enjoy those little BD*M plays, I didn't find them repulsive or too out of place. I'd recommend giving this story a try. <<less

i truly think I found my favorite light novel and I regret reading it in 5 hrs. I should've taken my time and carefully savored each masterful chapter.

the characters were all wonderfully memorable, the bd*m was well written with a much more accurate, realistic portrayal of a d/s relationship without being too intense and niche, the main romance & side romances were gratifying and sweet, the very detailed and believable video game and world setting was a BLESSING in comparison to Some Light Novels I Can Think Of, and in... more>> particular, I adored the irl aspect with forum posts shown at the start of every chapter, which really added a touch of something special to this novel by giving us a different narrative perspective. God I love this novel. the plot itself is a work of art, with each new aspect the reader learns about our MC's history and friends and life being akin to a jigsaw puzzle piece, and by the end every piece has found its place to form a masterpiece. I genuinely laughed out loud at some parts.

altogether, this was everything I asked for from a gaming, bl novel, plus a little extra. I would extend my review, but I gotta go reread. Don't regret picking this one up at all

edit under the cut for length, no story spoilers
Spoiler

ok past the initial honeymoon phase and thought a little more rationally about this. I definitely appreciate antelope and night wolf for its lighthearted and comedic tones paired with the actually intriguing plot, the latter of which is rare to find in a comedy and gaming novel. The characters themselves could have certainly been explored more and I do agree with some reviews that the ML is kind of flat and one dimensional. Like, in any other novel I wouldn't be as enthusiastic for their romance, but because the narrative and the MC's perspective is very well-written and characterized, ive grown to like the ML in a pair with the MC. MC is definitely more developed though.

i also agree that the BD*M is kind of out of the left field but honestly like. Its hot so you wont find me complaining. Lmao. Plus its definitely more d/s than anything else + a boot fetish so imo pretty vanilla

in the latter half of this novel, the gaming aspect takes a definite step back, although to be fair it was much less focused on the game itself and the gameplay as it was on the character's relationships and romance and misunderstandings. Still, I would enjoy a prequel detailing the events prior to this novel that happened in the MC's old server to a greater degree! But first and foremost this novel is undoubtedly a comedy and romance, not a "kings avatar" or "legendary moonlight sculptor" sort of deal.

[collapse]

i could honestly ramble about this novel for paragraphs but at this point does anybody care? Instead of reading this review yall should save yourselves and read the novel.

TL;DR lovely lighthearted and intriguing romance, well rounded in terms of characterization and worldbuilding, and holistically incredibly enjoyable on all accounts. <<less

The journey was veryyyy enjoyable. I loved the plot twists, the amount of character development the MC has, and the side characters were likable too. The ML of the first side couple we meet is the second-best character in this novel, right behind the MC.

For myself, the MC carried this novel, he is a very bubbly character, but also has his own personal issues. He's one of the most well-developed MCs I have read about in a long time and actually prompted me to reread it again right after the... more>> first read to understand his actions more.

I'm only giving it a 4* though because I felt the relationship between the MC and ML could have been more... well-written? It felt like the MC's main reason for liking the ML was that he was hot and suited MC's tastes. MC could have ended up with the 2nd ML and I would still have been perfectly fine with the ending. If anything, 2nd ML actually treated MC even better than the ML. Just give me something, ANYTHING to ship the MC with the ML more than the 2nd ML. <<less

It started good but went downhill soon afterwards. If I were to take a shot for every con, I would be ded drunk.

  • MC is a compulsive liar. I get that he would lie to the team for his identity, but what the hell lol? Why you must make up such ridiculous lies? Don't you know the principle of mixing %70 of lies with %30 truth? He fails so bad at lying that I just cringe real hard instead of finding it amusing at some point. Also, why lie to Wolf? What's the point? He already knows you're not the real Bell, you asked to meet multiple times, why still lie? f*cking mystifying.
  • Gay paradise. Alright, it's a BL, school is also supper accommodating and even has a forum for homosexuals, but why is everyone gay? Like, all males except ML (who also turns gay later) are gay, and female characters are just brainless fujoshis. Just how ded your brain you must be to yell "AGHHH LITTLE BOTTOM!! COME OOON QUICKLY GIVE HIM A SEAT!!" or refer to your teacher as "ice cold bottom"? Supporting homosexuality is good, but man, this is crazy.
  • The whole world is only as big as the city our cast resides in. A supposedly super popular game, relies on a bunch of 10th graders to support it? Half of the best players are either from their guild or either from their guild lol, no other options. What makes MMORPG games fun, aside from gameplay itself, is competitiveness. What's the point of even describing gameplay if you know oh so well that our high school kids can sweep anyone and everyone left and right? Seriously, does this game has no other players?
  • Messy relationships. Since every f*cking one knows each other and MC is a compulsive liar, it's inevitable. Person A likes B, B knows C who has a crush on D, E is B's ex and only F knows it amongst the group, D is a lost cause that knows A would never go for him but loves nevertheless... Too many characters. Halfway to the chapter, you forget who is who and the fact that the author keeps introducing new ones before establishing ones before doesn't make my job easier here.
  • Bland characters. It's because of having too many of them, probably. Even MC and ML are the same. Other than their occasional fun conversations, they fell flat in every department. Not to mention MC isn't the most likable one.
  • Too many coincidences. Just too f*cking many.
  • Bizarre storytelling. Characters talk too much but don't tell a sh*t at the same time. MC acts too mysterious which is borderline chuuni. I feel like the author dropped too many questions here and there just to make sure there's always something to tell whenever you're struck. When they get a new idea, explain %1 of previous questions and proceeds to add a bunch of new ones.
Guess that's it? Could also be more but I... more>> can't be bothered.

Btw translation is good. <<less

I enjoyed the novel as a whole.

But I still wanna show my dissatisfaction with the ML. One star is deducted for the ML.

The MC is super likeable. He is the reason I read the novel completely.

... more>> The biggest con : the ML

I don't like the ML. In the whole novel, I find him rarely appreciating the MC other than in s*x aspects. It feels like he is just there for the good s*x life. He is shown as a stereotype male. Even the side 2nd/3rd MLs are way better than him.

Their interactions are not shown much other than gaming.

Author already mentioned about the BD*M part but I still couldn't like the ML because his character is not balanced at all. Many BL MLs are shown as h**ny but atleast they are also shown as being good to their partner in other aspects as well.

I feel like the best friend of the MC is the one who loves him so wholeheartedly.

Regardless the novel is recommended. <<less

I am shocked by number of 5 star reviews this novel has. This is written so unrealistically. It is understandable that being a novel everything won't confirm to reality but that doesn't mean it has to be this absurd, or else author should have just made an au. Basically everyone around MC he interacts with is gay. It is shown that the uni MC is in is very open minded but that doesn't mean that every other person has to be gay. Also, the game they play is supposed to... more>> be popular from how it is written, but somehow every big name in the game is someone MC knows and live in the same city.

Pros are story is touching, well written, it's easy to read, NSFW scenes are awesome and character growth is good.

Cons are: the unreliable narrator is just too unreliable, everyone is gay (being a bl novel doesn't mean it has to be so), a popular game has all of it's big names as amateur college player whose lives are (unrealistically) entangled with each other creating a very confusing plot. <<less

haha this is the only gaming novel that I've managed to complete....

while the plot wasn’t super connected or anything, it was satisfying to see it all tie up together! and it didn’t take ages for the main couple together (unlike other gaming novels ;;;;) i’m not a gamer at all that’s why I lose interest if there’s not enough plot out of the gaming world but this one struck a nice balance!

I really liked this novel and while the ML is not super amazing, the MC is a delight. I know it's weird to say this and give the novel a 3 but one of the supporting characters and his manipulative actions to get into a relationship and the fact that he succeeded cast a pall on the novel for me.

I loved it. And then I hated it. And then I completely adored it. Yep, that was 100% perfect. (Okay. 90% but that's still pretty good) From the initial set up all the way through to the final scene, this story is beautifully crafted..., the author makes it look so easy!

Book 1 was like eating a bowl of sugar. These boys are sweetness overload..., they all went so well together, making friends, opening up to each other, building the foundation, but then we got to a part where the... more>> story was just so... damn... slow. (book 2) The MC had so many opportunities to clear the misunderstanding but the author kept postponing it with weird interruptions and coincidences. It felt like a badly written soap opera.

Once it was all cleared though, we went back to the good parts. (book 3) The primary focus of this book is on building a foundation, establishing a bond, and making sure each man feels comfortable in their roles. Don’t get me wrong, the s*xual tension builds, and is always part of the story, but the relationships take a front seat.

Bonus erot*c moments: The way they play with their s*ave/Master relationship is so intimate, I love it.

This was sweet, slightly kinky, and overall adorable. With some hot s*x scenes I might say. <<less

Theres so much to say that I got frustrated trying to write a proper review and now I just gave up.

First of all, even if you're not into BD*M don't let that tag hold you back from reading this or you'll be missing a masterpiece.

Also, don't let the comments saying the ML is cruel, the story is dramatised (hey life itself is a drama and TV series is basically just compilations of life events to create a new story) , or that the fetishes are weird and disturbing stop you... more>> from reading this ✋?. I'm telling you, you'll be missing out.

Just like getting to know a friend, you start off as strangers to acquaintances and you slowly get to know their story and eventually, henceforth, become friends. So don't come up with an early judgement and please stick with it.

I honestly almost stopped reading halfway because of the comments pertaining to ML but he eventually became my fav character after watching over his character growth.

The novel tackles over insecurities, diff coping mechanisms, getting over them, and acceptance of oneself. Although not very broad as it mainly focuses on gender identity and fetishes, and its still pretty shallow cause hey, this is a novel, story of the characters only not everybody.

The MC comes off as a simple happy go lucky that piles up lies after lies but then these lies are actually his mechanism to shield himself and for the better of his friends. And the reason for these lies slowly unravel as we tread through the story.

The ML starts as a typical 2D black-bellied chauvinist (I hated that he was a chauvinist) when he meets the MC. It was specially highlighted when they finally started dating and he opens a new door. But he slowly starts to change as he slowly got to know of the MC's secret and the self that he had unconsciously or consciously hid deep inside him.

The reason why I especially like this novel is that everyone is very humane. They hide a part of them that they think would not be easily accepted by the society. They have insecurities. They learn to accept themselves and accept their partner wholly. They accommodate to each other.

Also, don't think that people with fetishes are different because we're all the same anyway. The only difference is the type of fetishes, the degree, and whether we are conscious of it or not. Altho yes there some that are unacceptable like the illegal ones.

PS. I suggest not to skip reading the small clips/posts ever chapter before the story. <<less

I simply adore this novel! It is the cutest, fluffiest BD*M story that should offend nobody! I adore all the characters in the novel. The pace of the story telling is very good. I don't ever get bored from the beginning to the end.

I would highly recommend listening to the OST from the audio drama for this story while reading as well. It is 《網遊之我不配 第三期ED》國境四方 by RaJor. It can be a little daunting with so many characters and their accounts, but the story is so nice. I do wish there was more bd*m parts because those few paragraphs were so erot*c and hot. Ye Lang's inner Dominant personality really is alluring. It's still pretty vanilla with the Boot-fetish and there could definitely be more of steamy paragraphs with military uniforms.

You don't find out what happens fully until the last couple of chapters, but it is worth the wait. I definitely felt what it felt to be like... more>> LingYang. I could really sympathize and empathize with his character. You begin to understand all the trivial "half-truths" he tells, and it all fits together like a puzzle piece in the end.

The buildup is super good in this novel. LingYang hides many secrets, and soon you begin to uncover deeper more personal secrets and how it all fits together. It's totally worth the read. Karma is strong in this novel. <<less
