Extras die every day in various ways in the game [Yo-Ma Great War 3].

He was an extra when he reincarnated into the game.

I’ll never die. Never.

“Let’s get started.”

Evan had come to a conclusion. He tapped his cheeks as a way of signaling to himself that he had made up his mind.

He would become a character who never dies.

Ignore every review made before they read to chapter 240. Evan gets better. His reasoning for believing himself to be weak is because he, a 9 year old boy, saw himself getting killed 10.000+ times. Remember, he didn't reincarnate, he gained memories. He is still the same person, just with more memories than before, so a 9 year old kid, having seen himself die more than 10.000 times, will inevitably be terrified.

He changes a few hundred chapters in, to where he sees everyone else as weak, ... more>>
Spoiler

and looses all preconceptions and comes to term with his situation around chapter 248-9.

[collapse]
Up until there, he saw himself as a weak "Extra" in a "Videogame-world", which is the reasoning for most of his previous behavior, though it does come to safe him (minor spoilor).

Is it a good novel? Yes, it is. Toika is a good author and writer, so if you liked some of his other novels, then I can recommend this one.
Is it perfect? No, by no means.

I would give it 4.5 stars overall <<less

First ~100 chapters are really nice but later on it becomes pretty boring - Training/dungeon and gathering of some things to become more powerful. Plus the only real MC change is related to girls.

I think the main issue that author added to many 'activities' which are just scratched in novel. For example looking for special kids is a good enough thing to have few separate arks but in the end some random s*ave merchant just brings few kids randomly and in later half kids gathering is completely forgotten. Same about... more>> alchemy guild, or Maybell.

Basically novel isn't even half inch deep. A lot of things going on but neither of the are really covered <<less

The novel is disappointing. It's been getting worse after every 50 chapters. I get that it has an OP MC but this is too much. There's no tension or suspense. This should be one of Toika's later novels but the quality has fallen from "good enough to read" to "something I'd read when there's nothing else to read".

The excuse of being an extra is being overused, even if the MC is an extra everything in this world revolves around him. The external variables that would make the novel... more>> exciting don't pose that much of a challenge...

Spoiler

What makes this novel almost unbearable to read is the MC. So he played the game and he should know everything about it. The MC expects that he should know everything because he played the game. This kind of childish arrogance and s*upidity... what the f*ck? MC has some sort of realization after a hundred or so chapters that everything isn't what he thought it was but he doesn't change, he doesn't grow.

As I read this novel, I always just get the sensation in the back of my mind that something is missing/ a slight annoyance.

The world mechanics, is not explained at all and confusing to interpret.

First of all is this slime killing thing. Does he level up when he kills enough slimes? How exactly does he get stronger through killing slimes? What level is Evan exactly?

Then you have your whole dungeon leveling nonsense where you become the level of what floor you reach? So what does this mean for people that... more>> go through dungeons multiple times? Do you gain nothing? Do you gain half the exp?

Just crucial parts of the world mechanics that are not explained at all or properly which really frustrates me because it seems more of an intentional ignorance of the author because he can't be bothered to explain things.

Story progression is extremely slow, and I get that this is a harem novel but come on.... its just so much pointless love plot to fill in words and add more story to the already slow progressing story. Really takes away the few things that were good about the novel.

Whats was good? Has good political intrigue (however a lot of it is from their daughters falling in love with him -.-) Is kind of cute with all the kids?

TLDR just a terrible concoction of Death March and tr*sh of the Count's Family. <<less

Translation is a bit messy sometimes but gets better. The plot is getting a bit better and it seem to increase of showing other characters also, not just the always recent characters. It's good, funny, and exciting.

It got kinda annoying after a bit. The MC is just dense af. I think it's intended to be comedic but it gets annoying and dry after a bit. Just becomes repetitive. The women are annoying as hell as things progress. If I was the MC I would've killed off some of them by now... that's how annoying they are.

To much inconsistencies in story line.

No break at all always fight or getting stronger.

Timeline does not match plot.

Romance not progressing at all.

Always use excuse yoma war 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I don't surprised if author use until yoma war 10. And what game has 5 sequel? Too much budget ehh?

i will give this novel, 4 start in account of first having the guts and talent to piggy back on the momentum of Novel's Extra and getting their own stuff going, second having a consistent writing style and easy on the eyes (as far reading comprehension goes) and lastly not getting stale even after touching some cliches common to the genre and moreover still making entertaining enough for me to want to comeback to it after a couple months of hiatus. If you liked the Novel's Extra and want to... more>> see something with a different spin on it while no being insulting to you, I kindly suggest this one. (Btw check Ending Maker too since they have the same kind of "energy" while Ending Maker being a tad more Fun IMO.) <<less

My biggest gripe with this story is similar to many other reincarnation novels and that is age and the descriptors used for (the extremely young) female characters.

Why do so many stories insist on having an extremely young cast of main characters, without having any time skips.

Also the MC is a munchkin believing himself to be weak even after he himself acknowledged that he isn't.

Annoying. Granted, the novel has stuff that doesn't grind my gears but the protagonist's attitude is. It also never crossed my mind that this was penned by Toika. Toika's stories are highly mixed with popular Japanese tropes as his stories often show but this one is subpar than his usual. And probably, the fact that I hate most of the noble/aristocrat tropes shown in this novel contributed to my rating.

My 5th Toika novel and in My opinion the worst one so far.

It's not really bad, you can see that author tried to get rid of a game element that is in all his works, there's still proficiency, skills and levels but there's like 4 or 5 times in the whole novel that you see status windows and that's great, because Toika is trying something new but that's all pros in the novel.

Sadly there are much more cons:

    • World building was medicore at best
    • Side characters were very bland. Even the main ones didn't have any impact in the story so there was no difference if MC was alone or with all of them.
    • Fight descriptions from the very beginning are like at the end of Toika novels, which is 3-4 lines at max
    • There was very little of Toika humor, which is one of pros in all of his novels
And the worst of it all was Evan mindset in most of the novel. It's not even worth to put it as spoiler.

MC started to act as MC in the last 3 arcs, which is like from chapter 400>, I wanted to give up at ~100th chapter and only got to the end of it thanks to my stubbornness and to not have bad aftertaste from not finishing novel that's complete and got retranslated.

I'm not even gonna touch Gaiden, no way.

Oh and translation was bad, like 4/10 bad, there was only 3 or 4 MTL chapters but most of the times you have to ponder who is talking which line. In Korean you can easily distinguish because there are few ways to speak specific word but in English there's no such thing and translators didn't gave a damn about it.

God this was bad. I got to chapter 53 before I dropped this.

Initially, it was okay. It wasn't outstanding in any way, if anything it was sort of funny. You could see Evan's suffering and it was funny. But later on, it just became the epitome of cliche and boring. All the characters would just bow down to Evan because of his looks or how "kind" he was to the damned. There was no thought process and no attempt to gain any sort of recognition, it just fell onto his... more>> lap. All the characters were just so one dimensional that you couldn't sympathise with them or even enjoy the character.

Another thing that really irked me was Evan and the rest of the cast’s mindlessness. He would show intelligence and ability that is physically and scientifically impossible for someone of that age to pull off, used his future knowledge to do stuff so openly you would think he owned the place and then dares to get confused when someone is suspicious of him. God it was so annoying.

Another factor that led me to drop it was the inconsistent translation. The tenses kept jumping, it would be habitual present tense or past tense, and it completely threw off the reading experience.

Sure you might like it, so try it out but this was my point of view <<less

Let's make this simply boring, too much info dumb which I don't mind most of the time but continuous repetition is annoying, as I continue reading I found myself shaking and anger, this just an Op MC with a plot armor who's everything goes his way while everyone keeps praising him and he keeps thinking he's weak. Let's not comment on the forceful Romance and how every parents to stick they're baby girl to MC just because he's promising this just s*upid and what does little girl know about romance... more>> they're better be playing and enjoying their childhood instead and what's actually snap me off and I made me decide to drop this novel for good is the fact that his parent and everyone around is calling him a 'God' "Maybe JUST the translation I HOPE" <<less

A Toika story that's a bit different from his other stories. For one thing, it doesn't take place on Earth, there are game systems but there's been no stat screen so far (c59), and the main protagonist doesn't have strong characterization. Unfortunately, it's too similar to other transported into the novel/game/whatever WNs. Pretty much, if you read The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs, My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending, or tr*sh of the Count's Family then you've read this novel or at least read the... more>> same situations. It's mostly uninspired and a real drag to read since I've read so many similar works. The only thing really different so far is Toika's brand of "comedy" - like the protag's training method and his habit of running jokes into the ground. I would say that it also has Toika's other major flaws such as supporting characters always talking about or thinking about the protagonist instead of anything else like their own situations or what's happening in the world. The only real positive is that Toika is a machine that never seems to stop writing and he knows how to finish stories unlike other novels that are still going on and being updated at a snail's pace. Yes, it's complete and completed translated (translation is a bit messy in places though) so if you want to binge read you can. Honestly, I got to the hot spring episode and I couldn't take it anymore. <<less

Frankly, this story has given me the same vibe as "Everyone else is a returnee", another novel of Toika but in a more intense way, the MC is a cheat in itself and everything that he do go well or if not will go well later on when he come back to rectify what has gone wrong.

There is no thrill in this novel, everything is predictable, the author tries to make it funny that the MC is so strong but when you have it repeat itself for the entirety of... more>> the novel it become boring too continue reading. <<less

Like other Toika novels, this novel is actually not bad. The premise is very promising, the side characters that are not MC's love interest are nice as well. However, the setting is criminally underutilized due to the repetitive storyline and the overuse of clingy love interests kinda killed any possible holistic character development. The MC is also rather inconsistent as well which is another turn off for me.

I like the story itself and I'm glad that there are also other men fighting alongside the MC. However, I just can't stand how much of a jerk the MC is. If you're going to accept and embrace more than one woman into your life, then at least make sure to take care of the other girls too. Honestly speaking, at this point, every time Belois has a scene, I just skip it. I know his favorite is Belois but honestly, I feel bad at how he's taking the other... more>> girls for granted. If he didn't want them, he should have put more effort in rejecting them in the first place; typical guy in this genre who says no but is actually just stroking his ego. Bastard. Belois is also a disgusting piece of **** I guess, in a way, the MC and Belois suit each other. They're both tr*sh. <<less

I'm not really sure whether its the translation or the author change how the way they write, but the early chapter is kinda hard to understand. Especially with the pov going around and doesn't make any difference whether the characters talk to themselves or to other.

pretty much a slice of life japanese novel. Kinda thick plot amor make mamy things convenient for MC. MC is kinda a little dull with the whole extra (I'm weak af) mindset. MC doesnt want trouble but every thing he did scream trouble will come.

Not a great novel but also not bad. This is the novel u would read when there aren't any better novel to read and u need something to kill ur time. It's an okay novel.

Edit: I droped it. Too cringe to read more. Easy mode... more>> gameplay is fine but why does MC have to be so cringe, always say "how can this how can that be so weak, they are faking it right, they didnt fight me properly, there must be something wrong etc". In conclusion, MC repeatedly lacks of self awareness to the point that make pp frustrated. <<less
