I'm going ahead and warn those that are looking for a classic hunter-monster story will be caught offguard. The author clearly either has a strong financial background or is the biggest financial history fanatic that I've ever seen. Imagine if you could back 20 years and buy stocks on Google, predict the fall of the 2007/2008 stock market, invest aggressively in crypto and amass trillions. This story is basically that with hunter-monster as simply a backdrop for the story. Yeah, its the ultimate goal and developments for it happens, but... more>> at least 70 chapters deep its 95%+ financial story. As somebody that works in finance, I find it incredibly compelling, but I can understand why a lot of people would not like it at all. This author uses derivatives, futures, swaps without care and its easy to get lost if you are not familiar. Basically, if you got confused while watching the Big Short for the third time, you're probably not going to enjoy it. But, man, if you like/understand these concepts, you're in for a unique experience. <<less

The further it gets the more nationalistic and mu*der hobo the story gets. It had tiny hints of potential at the start but the author has absolutely zero understanding of probability and can't not rely on plot armor.

Every single character is eventually seething at how the west exploited Korea in the 1980s and its used as justification for all manner of mu*der hobo actions.

There's also an extreme undercurrent of sexism and misogyny as most women characters are treated as ... more>>

I thought this would be an average gate / dungeon hunting regression novel. I was wrong but in a good way.

The storytelling in this novel is really great with a lot of details and it actually make you learn useful stuff.

There's a whole arc where it's just about him getting rich through the normal economic way. And this is explained in detail so ot actually make me learn a lot.

Normally in this kind of novel becoming a hunter itself would be enough to make you rich. But the MC doesn't want just that. He want to be the richest in the whole world

I read the novel and the manhwa until chapter 29 where it stops and wow I have to say one of the best starts of novels I have ever seen, some ppl may not like the details, but it's so well written and a lot of foreshadowing and building for the future, ii like how MC is getting ready for the future by rasing funds and getting companies in a smart way using his brain and collecting useful ppl around him, I really hope this novel takes off so we... more>> can get more chapters. <<less

Found the novel a bit interesting, the author clearly had some ideas at the start which felt well-thought out. But it goes downhill after the initial stage is set.

The financing bits were actually entertaining for me to read about, the dungeon stuff felt more like fillers to me. Which seems a bit... odd. The fights are quite poorly written and lacks creativity as it often ends in three scenarios, either Seon has p2w gacha gear and powers through it, he gets badly injured but hey, not a problem, I'll just... more>> rely on my plot armor and pop some pills and then pass out, or, timeskip and everything is left up to the reader... lazy writing.

My biggest problem is that the main characters are not fleshed out enough, nor do they stay in character, which is for me a deal breaker and just ruins the immersion.

Stopped reading when the day of advent happens, too many side characters are introduced and seems to be generic copies of each other, filled with cringe-inducing monologues and the main character Seon doesn't stay in character anymore.

Would only recommend to read if you just read the first 200 chapters, and have absolutely nothing else to read. <<less

It's honestly not that good at first we get the impression that his parents and family are going to be playing an important role in the story especially his mother but, after the first couple of chapters the MC is given the choice to go through a "tutorial" and live a normal life with his family that he's claimed is so important to him or to skip to his teenage years and move on to the first "chapter" by the system. The MC evidently decides to skip time and become... more>> a teenager after said time skip his parents are only mentioned a few time and their interactions with the MC feel superficial and shallow. It also very heavily focuses on the stock market and getting rich with future knowledge and gets very technical about how he's working the stock market (which if you know nothing about that or just aren't interested in can be very boring) and switches perspectives suddenly and without telling you who's perspective it is can be jarring. <<less

I recommend watching the movie the big short if you are enjoying the finance part of this novel. It goes into a lot of detail on the idea of leverage and option trading, while being entertaining and based on a true story.

I’m enjoying the novel, it was a bit too much finance for me and it all seemed to become a bit meaningless pst a certain point, but it’s still a good novel now that they are getting more into the dungeon stuff.

Most of the Korean novels about dungeons, reincarnation and apocalyse have a painfull phrasing and translation, and this novel does not escape the norm.

What's even more annoying is that some informations about the story plot (not the known economy) are not associated with a clear time line, making it difficult to link some events; if they have really happenend, will happen, and in which time-line... Also, as many reviewers said before, most of the text is about the economy market around the 2000s, and how the MC use his knowledge... more>> from his previous life to take advantage of it: although interesting from an historical point of view, it can be quite boring to read when mixed with action scenes in dungeons, especially when there are so few of them...

Finally, if the story is also slow paced, it is still an interesting read compared to other novels of the type: as the MC is not OP and it is more realistic, there is a clear, but slow growth. I still regret a bit how some characters among the "Evils & Vertues" seem OP from the start...

Review at chapter 289: Most of the dense economic chapters stop around chapter 200. After that it's mostly chapters about fights between Awakened people and monsters which is nice, or at least it should be if the Author was good at it. Another issue is the difficulty to follow the story: if the first 200 chapters were easy to follow as it's based on the economic history we know of, the story once the apocalypse starts is messy. MC is moving left and right, trying his best to stabilize situations while being a cold blood p.o.s. Furthermore, there are never transitions/explanations between Arcs and time skip: it makes the reading painfull, like in Reincarnator for example. Later, around chap 280ish, MC

. This is really some lazy writting. In fact, the early 200 chapters are the best, even with all the economical stuff... <<less

It's a very slow burn, but I enjoy them when done right (though it does get slightly repetitive). I don't have much knowledge in investments and stuff so I don't know if what's written is correct but it's fun to read.

It's a good novel with a nice MC and some side characters but I dislike one thing about it, which is the MC getting every skill/item etc. whenever he's in need of it. it has happened quite a few times now and it's f*cking annoying to read.

It killed my mood... more>> to read any further currently though I will probably do it later.

....

Spoiler

MC entered the dungeon and then says he can't solo it bcoz he's too weak at the moment. get a few close calls and almost dies, wishes for an item to escape the dungeon, gets it in the first try even though the chances are very low, and then rants about how the system doesn't give out good stuff.

Imagine this:

An A rank hunter who was capable of annoying S ranks, shivering in fear against an F rank dungeon, with advantages such as regressing, being able to train since he was a baby, a God Tier Skill, preparations he deemed enough, etc. Ends up relying on luck to save his ass crying as he fails to complete the first rank dungeon which he has finished before.

no knowledge of weaknesses of the monsters, no proper weapon training, spent life boxing only to use throwing daggers, and bad narration of fights.

ends... more>> up too traumatized by the dungeon that he seeks a mental health healer.

sacrifices Challenger Rank Revival item only for him to keep his parents in a safe bubble, with almost 0 development and love for parents.

Not great... If you want a finance class on how to leverage FOREX and stock markets this may be for you. Over 50 chapters in and not much interesting has happened except learning how the MC is getting wealthy, buying companies, purchasing land, buying construction companies...

Dropping for a story that actually goes somewhere

A very detailed and interesting story but not for those who hate business elements or finance related things in their reads. Also, the summary is very accurate. The MC aims to monopolize as much as he can and he is definitely a bonafide businessman. Those people who rated this story low did not use their reading comprehension with the synopsis. It's clearly stated there what the MC aims for.

One of the Best Reincarnation books. Can be confusing when the characters talk about the finances and politics, it's really helpful with the cliff notes the translators leaves.

the story is slow at first and focus's on the MC trying to earn money with stocks but once the MC starts raiding the dungeons that's when the story progress's. The story starts to get more darker and brutal during the stage of advent.

There isnt a harem which is a plus, there is romance later but the story is not focused on romance.

I enjoyed this. Dives into economics which was a little mind boggling for a simple layman like myself. MC is pretty methodical. Author does a good job on not dumping a bunch of info/names on you immediately which I appreciate.

EDIT: I felt like I should add a couple warnings to my review. There is VERY little plot progression for almost 80 chaps (apprx). There is an immense focus on the economics and aquiring money. It is interesting but may not be everyones cup of tea. I also feel like power... more>> creep might be a problem (protagonists too strong??) towards the end of this novel. Obviously thats just a guess I havent read the raws... <<less

The financial parts of the novel are vastly more interesting than the powers and fighting. Also the MC the author chose to create isn't anything special combat wise. He knows how to fight, but you shouldn't expect your typical regressor who due to talent or vast experience is incredibly strong from the start. He gets OP skills right off the bat, but that's it. He's your average fighter who is deathly afraid of monsters, but forces himself to fight. And his intelligence in money making doesn't convert to dungeon raiding.... more>> I would like to say the author was going for realism, but it hurts the novel how shallow the dungeon raiding parts are.

Its 4 out of 5 because the mc's money making schemes are entertaining, deep, and yet easy to understand. It fails to become a 5 due to the combat and MC fighting, but hopefully the author improves that part of the novel.

Spoiler

After reading some of the story by MTL I lowered my review to a 3. The fighting parts of the novel don't get better. MC becomes OP rapidly by monopolizing low level dungeons and first clears and is rather dull to hear about. Also MC has S rank stats and armed to the teeth with OP items, but spent years just slumming in the low level dungeons.

The 8 evils and virtues don't matter. MC grew too strong for it to be a challenge. Also he can't feel happy as the ones he kills aren't even the same person. Even the first Evil he was desperate to kill when finally caught was just a kid who was half dead chased by his security company for years, and MC just cuts off his head with no satisfaction knowing it was an obvious result.

Funny how it reminds me of another novel where the MC who lost his friends early on the story became OP gets revenge after a few years, but he wasn't satisfied at all as the monster responsible was a small fry.

I really enjoyed this. It gave a greater understanding of the character and his motivations. It's fleshed out and has many profound narrative layers.

The editorial team and the translator are doing a fantastic job. Looking forward to future developments!

Good story, but the line blurred on whether this is a dungeon kind of novel or stock kind of novel. I understand that this might be just a transition process. But the gap of 20 years until the day of awakening/trial are too long. But overall, this is a good novel. At least the stock part of the story is good, waiting for the dungeon part.

I see quite a few complaints about the initial arc of the novel, which perhaps the the fault of subverted expectations. Let me be clear: the protagonist is a regressed hedge fund manager/Wall Street psychopath, and this is a novel about him going back to the past and taking control of the world economy. There's eventually a shift towards usual "dungeons & system" fantasy plot that so many KR novels have, but the real thing that makes this novel unique is the financial stuff, without which this would just be... more>> a grimdark edgy MC w*nkfest like most of the others. It's not totally realistic (this is a world where every financial conspiracy theory is true and the MC is likely taking part in it) but I do think it presents fairly esoteric subject matter in a way that's engaging and even informative to the general reader.

As for the fantasy part....a lot of people die. On the one hand, there's something to be said for being willing to kill off characters and heightening tension by showing that nobody is safe, but the thing that bothers me is that it often feels like at this point the author is continuously changing their mind about where they want the plot to go. Perhaps that's not the case, but so many people get introduced with their own plot threads that feel like they're going somewhere only to randomly die in an offhanded mention 50 chapters later that it almost feels like the author is wasting space.

Overall, though, I'd say this novel is solidly above average for this genre and has an interesting enough twist to make it worth reading. <<less

Decent read, until it isn't. 20 chapters left but I couldn't get through it. Dropped.

Still worth 3.5, I'll just mark 4 to not drag down the ratings.

The vast majority of the novel so far is all finance stuff, and that was actually well-written and entertaining. So why 2 stars? The combat and system.

The author clearly put all his effort into finance history stuff, and nothing into combat or the system. The MC is smart for trading, but he's so bad at combat and planning that I honestly can't believe that he'd have survived the monsters.

He knows that dungeons are super dangerous, and he's way weaker than last time he went in... but he doesn't even think... more>> about any sort of armor, shield, maybe a companion (which he already confirmed could exist).

That's not even getting into HOW this idiot fights. He has a sword, but often leads with the dagger (reach???) and is constantly dropping his weapons. I understand not getting into martial arts and what not, but has the author not even read other novels that include fighting???

Then there's the system, it says that it's random but if MC goes "I want x"... it's a guarantee that he's going to get it. Out of all the possibilities, he gets what he wants pretty much every single time, and then in the best form. I understand giving the MC luck at first, but come on.

I'm giving it a 2 because I liked the finance, but tbh that makes the dungeon parts even worse because of the contrast. <<less
