This novel is REALLY bad and I don't know how I could endure 400 chapters, really...

Ok, at the beginning I was kinda enjoying, its pretty cliche but it was not that bad, the start was very different of we would expect, since he got his 'destiny' robbed from him when he was born, the MC had to get a few lucky chances before starting his cultivation. In this plot, his empire was suppressed and of course, our MC would start to change that.

This was ok, the real problem is the... more>> 'audience' when he leaves his empire. Omfg He's a superb genius that could fight against people above his cultivation level but EVERY single time people would be like: ofc he can't do that, he got lucky last time.

I mean, really? One time ok, two we can take that as well, but three, four times, five times? He's fighting a lot of times with people above his level and he's underestimated EVERY SINGLE time, trust me, its in EVERY fight people talking as if he would lose 110%. Besides, he would grow a lot in a few months, but come on, even if you beat an initial 8x cultivator, in the competition in 2 months you would only be destroyed, cuz there would be advanced 8x cultivators there. rly???? Everyone has less than 50 IQ.

That's extremaly hard to endure but there's nothing worse than those fights.

Fights of 10 chapters and in every single chapter there would be a new secret weapon being used, I think every single cultivator he fought until now would be the protagonist in another novel cuz they have TONS of secret weapons. Furthermore, doesn't matter the amount of secret weapons, they would never be able to fight a cultivator above their level, only the MC can do that. haha

Moreover, in 450 chapters, NOT A SINGLE important character DIED. This is ridiculous, I'm not going to spoiler but people don't die in this novel, people would try to kill him but those guys NEVER die, its painful af to read 10 chapters of a fight and the villain just leaves or got saved for his elders.

I would not recommend this novel, I only tried because I don't have anything better to read but its better to study anything than read this sh*t.

btw half of every chapter is filler. <<less

Makes you wonder why tf the enemies swore to never touch the mc's empire for 100 years, was like hmm, we could end it all right now but NOO, let's give him a chance to beat us, and maybe this might be subjective but I hate the idea of drinking, all the people that I have seen in real life drinking, always end up acting as if they are crazy and puking all over the place... drinking is fun... so it was really hard dealing with all the bs cliche... more>> in these types of novels where everyone is a drunktard, now it had to make even the FL be a drunktard, idk how anyone finds charming some girl that gulps down a bottle of alcohol.. if she smokes an entire package of cigars in 1 hour too, my god, I will probably wet my pants, that is too charming for me. can't people be normal in CN novels and just drink water.. why do all of them need to be drunktards? <<less

Spoiler

I suggest you read the manhua of this cause it's art is gorgeous but the story is filled with fillers and peanut gallery and it's like the female lead is the main character of this story but after 800 the story picks up again and the feeling of female lead being the MC is no longer present and the male lead acts like a proper MC. And the romance in this novel feels like they had no choice but be together with each other due to the plot and had no feeling at all but due to being with each other they start to understand and feel for each other and if you want a harem you are disappointed because you won't find one though there were hints for a harem to form but the author ultimately decided to not make one.

The concept of his destiny being stolen is a good one but this novel isn't that good with this concept and if you are looking of a ruthless MC, you are disappointed because the MC of this novel shows too much mercy but does have moments where is ruthless and kills and those moment are badass.

In the end this novel is plagued with fillers and peanut gallery and MC being a mom character rather than a main one but after the start of the second book that is around 800 chapters I think the novel has improved and though there are peanut gallery present they have reduced drastically and MC is starting to become rultless and cunning.

I think it's worth to give the manhua a try and if you found it enjoyable then start reading the novel.

This is painfully generic. There is literally never a plot twist that surprises you. The only time the MC loses it's because he was drastically lower tier than the opponent, and then he gets a cheat within the next dozen chapters and suddenly beats them. If you see a development and think "the cliche would be to do X", that X will 100% happen. It's not boring, but I'll be frank: An AI could have written this novel, and it would have been better written.

I stuck with it till the... more>> end... sorta. By the end I was just skipping through many of the chapters based on their titles, because I knew 99% of chapters could be predicted from their titles alone or by the generic formulas used in every previous arc. It had long stopped being interesting, let alone satisfying, to read these arcs. It was all "super strong prodigy of 2 levels higher fights MC; MC loses; MC gains power boost; MC matches evenly; villain reveals trump card; MC reveals trump card (usually pulled out of literally nowhere) ; MC wins. Every time.

To make it worse, until the VERY END of the novel, every single fight is backed by a chorus of morons going "how can he possibly win; the other guy is one of the strongest of their level"... after the MC just beat the strongest of the level below and then grew in cultivation. Like, there isn't a single braincell shared between any of the antagonists or background characters.

They are acting like they are playing the MC as an underdog, but they aren't. We know he'll win. He never loses. Ever. In the course of the novel, he lost literally two fights, and they were both really obviously choreographed in advance so you knew he'd lose, and both were so that he'd have a reason to go to a different realm.

Bad novel, skip. <<less

a very stereotypical cultivation story; you name it and this story has it; I swear I read "You are courting death!" four times in three paragraphs at one point. Lots of repetition, face-slapping, OP MC, padding, and there were the never-ending contests/duels/tournaments what felt like every other chapter.

that being said, the writing itself is fairly solid and the translation good. I've seen novels with more popularity and yet they have worse writing and bigger plot holes. While the novel is not a match for the authors other works, it's not... more>> terrible either, at it's best moments this is a 3.5 and at it's worst its a 2.

personally, I think Yaoyao would have made a far more interesting protagonist to follow, and it would have the added benefit of being something new from this writer. Such a wasted opportunity. <<less

Little disappointing. Just dont read if you guys already read bunch of wuxia powerless price dominating the world novels. I just wanted to try something classic so I read this story in a 1st time wuxia reader point of view.

Still not much new elements. Too repetitive. Tournament based fights will repeat until where am I currently now.

Giving 2 for the way the story goes aint bad. I resisted until arround chapter 800 hahaha.

I already reviewed this at ww, but I always feel like I should do one here since I don't always read in only one site. Also I'm f*cking tired, sleepy and content. Empty as well... *sigh*.

Okay, I found myself clapping.

The only author who has made me go mad at how he can play with my every particle that makes me- with all his novels, is Mars. That troll really creates.

But in here, I first see that Potato didn't resort to forcefully using things that "worked well" at previous works. But... more>> then again he just makes decisions that are infuriating... fortunately, he also does his best to quell that fury, frustration and... trolliness. Though sometimes it wasn't enough to be left satisfied with a result... it can make due.

Fights, progression (except for the oh motherf*cker spirit system who), relationship (close ones, not just anyone he meets), world building (isn't spectacular... but who cares, it's a 1.5k lighthearted novel, once you start reading your typical 10 chapters, next time you know you have read another 60) - and OH BOY MWWWWWWWWAH, romance, finally after many overdone writing from other authors I found a non-bullsh*t driven one, and a beautifully tragic sacrificing just-what-else one at that, masterpiece.

Though conversation about how even though he was strong and showed off like so before, he shouldn't be that amazing this time- are soooooo repetitive, it also make sense... I mean at the beginning nah, but later on, a dude who takes like a year to achieve something other take dozens of years... and do it again non-stop... yea i'd also go like that, it's a small thing, but it's a small detail which will support the novel thoroughly and a showcase of Potato's blood, sweat, and feelings devoted to his creations. <<less

Pretty nice I guess, the story is pretty enjoyable and not as annoying as the other chinese novel with their blatant neverending plot recycle and the very contrast of black and white story. The comedy part is also done nicely well and not excessive, so it doesn't look like a circus parade. It's just some playful interaction and wordplay, suited with the serious element of the story.

Although there are still some stuff that left me disappointed (totally personal opinion), like the drama and romance part. As childish as I am,... more>> the ending left me unsatisfied... such a waste! Honestly it feels kinda s*upid, the author monogamy approach isn't bad but what can I say except its make a fine bruh moment. <<less

Heavenly Silkworm Potato is a Chinese author I've been reading for years. So after Battle Through the Heavens, Wu Dong Qian Kun and the Great Ruler, how is he doing with Dragon Prince Yuan ?

Structurally, the story similar to The Great Ruler, for the good and the bad. Meaning, it is quite fine for the first third of the novel, but it latter falls into a cycle of plot repetitions with a few originalities here and there. The story gets a net improvement in the last fifth of the tale,... more>> but it end a bit abruptly with a serie of long chapters. I must note that there has been an improvement from the author in the humor and romance sides. Of note (minor spoiler), the novel places itself in the "HSP universe" by being a prequel to the currently written books, especially TGR, showing the origin of the main antagonists.

The characters are of widely variable quality. Zhou Yuan, the eponymous protagonist, is pretty good character, courageous, loyal, determinated, a bit of a profiterer with a skill for double entendre jokes (for those who know, he is a mix of Lin Dong for the courage and hard-working side with the lover side of Mu Chen and a healthy slice of humor). His love interest, Yao Yao, is also a great character, cold but quietly and progressively more and more friendly then loving to the MC and some of the "good" secondary character. She is also quite strong and a major plot point right to the end of the story. BTW, the hero here is monogamous, so the female childhood friend, although she is a fine character too, has no chance at all. Other characters are also quite well, like Tun Tun (Yao Yao's pet), who provides a lot of the comedy or even some of the antagonists who turns to the protagonist's side. The other secondary characters prove to be quite forgetable, except for a few with peculiar traits (like bald Chu Qing and the blind swordman Li Chunjun).

The antagonists, sadly, prove disappointing again. Beside Wu Xuan (the overall antagonist of the first third of the tale, truly a deviant), the few foes-turned-allies and the final antagonist (a real cancer on the world whose actions and plots have far reaching ramifications), most of them are in the mold of the arrogant young master, petty elders, the cruel bandit or the leecher. Against, it is clear that the author has trouble making "good" enemies.

The world building is good, but not great. The author shows us a functional setting, with a good attention to the details relevant to the plot (even in the early parts), but nothing frivolous. It can awe us for a moment, but only the most critical or repetitive elements are truly memorable.

The power system is, as usual with the stories of this author, divided into two paths. The main one is the classic qi system (called here Genesis Qi), which everyone uses, although it gets some originality at the later levels. The second one is an auxiliary system only practiced by a minority of specialist (which includes the MC) and is based on the soul (called Divine Soul) which is mostly used the create Genesis Runes (scripts which grants special effect, create arrays, etc...). They are mostly well done, but the auxiliary path become less relevant in the latter part of the story (unlike in the other HSP novel, where they were relevant until the end).

The translation is mostly of very good quality, as expected of Yeow and Aran, although you'll still find a few mispelling or typo.

In conclusion, like the other novels from HSP, Dragon Prince Yuan is a good, even very good novel at some points, although not an excellent one, with a fine protagonist, a great romance and love interest, also some good secondary character but mostly disappointing antagonists. Its power system is well written, but while one half is closely tied to the plot, the other fells neglected toward the end. The setting is also good and goes well with story, but it lacks some fluff. All of it mixes into a fine tales which, although not very original in style and repetitive in the middle part, will entertain you. the translation team also does a good job with few mistakes. My final verdict is a solid 7 out of 10. To place it in the context of the other novels in the serie, Dragon Prince Yuan is clearly better than Battle Through The Heavens, a bit above Wu Dong Qian Kun, but not a good as The Great Ruler (especially since that, as a prequel, it lacks the nostalgia factor of seing the previous stories' protagonists as secondary characters).

P.S: Thanks to Heavenly Silkworm Potato for writting this novel and to Yeow and Aran for translating it. <<less

Storyline is quite good but there are lot of holes in it. Most of the scenes don't make sense logically. Lots of the things fall in line simply to justify the plot and make it more fun but are logically dumb. If the details doesn't matter to you much then ok but if all these small things bugs you, do not read this!

Its not that bad as some reviews portrait, I think a problem is expectations, like this is a very normal xuanhuan, I would even argue there's some positive stuff over the others like no trophy harem and the FL is well developed through the story not like most where MC gets girl and then leaves her and appears after 500 chapters for another chapter.
The story is ordinary its a bit rushed and the quality drops a little towards the end but I think thats quite normal even in this genre, but the conclusion is not bad.
But I say this if you are interested in this one, read the manhua, the art is great.

i will give 4, to get closer to 3, 5.
