It started off slow, but it was to establish a solid ground that the story rests heavily on.

Although the author implemented the over-used 'misunderstood bad-guy' trope, it was not overbearing at all and it didn't take any merit away from the story.

It was a good read.

Sooo Great! First you may think there are plot holes, but No! All are for later parts of the novel and that make the novel complete!

Actually I wish to rate five stars, it's not that I don't like this.... but so far this novel can't be in my favorite list (bcuz some arc of novel are really long and it make me impatient). But I'm sure that this is really really one of the best story of conbination of interseller-apocalypse (both in science and in fantasy way)

The MC was too naive and clueless for me. He was meant to be a seargant, and with his personality it's extremely hard to believe.

The whole idea really makes no sense as to why they were so quick to agree to end a 2000 year old war with a marriage. Also, the MC was way too compliant with it and also with everything in general.

This is one of the few stories that I can never forget. I loved the world building of this story and overall, it is a very good read. ML and MC's love is really beautiful. Even though at the start the ML seems cold, later, he becomes very sweet.

I binge read the whole book and couldn't put it down. Loved it! Read it, you might enjoy it too!

Pretty interesting read! It's a lot more mature than you're usual danmei, so expect a lot of angst and tragic scenes. But, it's also very memorable because it subverts most of the "safe" decisions authors make when writing a story. Here, the MC is still your typical idiotic and oblivious shou *sneezing-face* and this is raised to the power of a thousand!!! However, it's his s*upidity that allows for a completely different plot (from the usual, I mean) with many ups and downs. The story starts with the MC being... more>> forced to marry the immortal "demon" that has been fighting against his people for 2000 years. The process is not easy and the ending is not pretty either. Things are more complicated than they seem, especially after finding out that the MC is actually a complete lookalike of said immortal's old lover.

Its hard to summarize this story because the beginning is so different from the end. There are three distinct arcs. The first arc involves the whole forced marriage thing. While the second arc explored the past. The third arc is their HE as well as a complete wrapping up of loose ends (in a big, flashy way).

If you're okay with angsty stories, I think this deserve a read! I held off on reading it for the longest time, and I'm kinda glad I did, cause I think you have to be in a patient mood to read this. But in the end, I'm definitely glad to have read it~ I don't think I'll forget the ML anytime soon T.T Ahhh the second arc is my fave. I almost gave up in the first arc, but I'm glad I kept reading till the main CP got their HE. Definitely worth it!

CHARACTERS: 9/10

Although the MC is sometimes so s*upid to the point that it's unreasonable, the author did well establishing his character to be that way — so it doesn't feel wrong. And the same thing goes for the others. They're handling of characters is very good!

Wu Xingyun (MC)

He's a stubborn and naive soldier. He's the type of soldier that blindly obeys his orders and is lost when he has no orders to follow. However, that slowly changes overtime.

Mozun - Night Shard (ML)

The ML is an immortal mutant. Once human, he and his fellow mutants have been fighting against the Federation for a very long time. His personality definitely matches his demon title. He's particularly devilish! But in a charming way~ Towards the MC though, he's the puppy type lolol

ROMANCE: 8/10

Oof, ngl. I found the initial development of the romance to be very very tragic in the beginning. But it was worth it in the end. The way they got together was very meaningful (not only because of finally awoken the MC's previously dead EQ, but it was just super heartwarming T.T) Normally, angsty romances aren't really my thing, but I still liked this one quite a bit — which says it all, I think.

SETTING: 8.5/10

The setting for this story is particularly well developed! It's a story that spans two thousand years, and while some details are definitely a bit handwavey, the important bits were given the attention they deserve. And, regardless of the occasional strange circumstances, the world felt very real — even when it was practically hellish.

PLOT: 7/10

The ups and downs of this fic is really sad T.T I'm not into tragedy in novels. But there's no denying that it brings a lot of impact? The first arc was a mess, tbh. I honestly didn't know what was happening with the ML half the time. The third arc also felt a bit superfluous. But well, for the sake of my favorite second arc!!! I still think pretty highly of the author's overall plot development.

RATING: 4.06/5

An oldie but a goodie. The cover of the novel is very unfitting btw. LOL part of the reason I didn't read it for so long was because of the cover. Idk why??? But yeah. I'm glad I did read this in the end, and I think I will reread it when I have the chance to do so again in the future. I think this story is good for rereading. If only to make sense of the initially incomprehensible first arc. <<less

I really liked the relationship between the MC and ML. It was progressed slowly and just the right amount of complicated. As for the backstory... I appreciate how the author starts us at one side of the war, then slowly shows us the reality of how the war came to be and lets us reevaluate the 'good and the wrong'.

What I had the most issue with was the mixture of science fiction and fantasy. It started off okay, on the acceptable side of fiction, but then it was just getting... more>> more and more absurd. The 'united elders' were really more than I could take with a straight face. And since the relationship was pretty much settled by that time, the last 10-20 chapters were not easy for me to push through.

The translator also put in very long notes that explain basically any and all even slightly scientific term and theory. I originally thought it was from the author and was quite put off by it - I don't really like the idea of trying to mix true science with sci-fi (unless you at the same time explain why other things in the fiction are impossible), because I worry about the risk of people not being able to properly discern where the line between reality and fiction lies. God knows so many people already believe that our 'evil scientists' are capable of inflicting all sorts of absurd horrors on people. Since it was the translator's decision rather than the author's, I did not take this into consideration when rating. <<less

Ok so all imma say is..... The first arc is painful but it sets everything up soooo well. I see that a lot of people didn't like the second Arc which is interesting bc that was my favorite. The last arc was a great way to end though.

The only bad parts for me were when I wanted to kill the ML in the first arc. Oooooh he was easy to hate. That, and the weird obsession yaoi/danmei have with no means yes and s*x till you can't walk. But it's... more>> still pretty obviously mutual in my experience. And no one is hurt. <<less

The first part was rather, although the MC was quite... uhh... weak? I didn't like his character but oh well.

The middle part almost made me drop the novel altogether. Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the MC before, whatever happened to him there made me question human psychology. He went from being an honest and devoted solder to something else entirely. He wasn't acting like a solder anymore, he was nothing but a whining attachment to ML. I didn't like it one bit.

The last part could be considered... more>> an improvement. There were still 'wth' moments for me in terms of the character development (or rather, the lack of it), but at least some questions were being answered, so there was that.

I hated the way ML was 'forcing' MC to XXX with him 24/7/365. It might be a norm in this genre - I don't really know - but reading through the same scenario of ML pushing down MC, while the latter could only cry for mercy was honestly exhausting. The novel wouldn't have lost anything if we hadn't had to read it more than once. Or not at all.

I like the translation though! The notes on science and whatnot were also very good~ <<less

Pretty good overarching space odyssey/opera/romance type novel with some survival/apocalypse genre in it.

I really enjoyed how the story starts really from the middle -- the author jumps right into the middle of the main act, without any laborous exposition.

We have a limited perspective of the ML from the view of the MC who grew up on the opposite side of the war (and therefore someone who is biased against the ML from the start).

The author did a really good job portraying MC's internal struggles of learning more about the ML,... more>> loyalty to his country, inner conflict with his upbringing and patriotism, etc.

Enemies to lovers, hidden secrets, past sacrifices, domestic husbandos etc, OP MC and especially OP ML; great use of those tropes here.

Finally, MC IS AVERAGE LOOKING. This never changes!
Spoiler

Personally, I found the first act of the novel to be the most intriguing; peeling back the layers of history and spotting all of the foreshadowing that the author used. Yes, it's also the most angst-ridden and the part with the most uncertainty, but overall it was done very well.

The second and following acts were more romance geared and thereby much more predictable. The reader is swallowed in the certainty that the ML loves the MC and the overall story is more about getting stronger and dealing with outside/external conflicts. But the MC does get a lot of development in his internal feelings about the ML and growing the love.

Fantastic translation overall, though I think some of the author's humor could have been conveyed a bit better. <<less

I considered dropping until I got to the second arc, the first arc was agony, I hated it, but the second arc onwards are the reason I’m giving this 5 stars.

The plot kind of simplifies at the end and I can understand why, all that was needed to be said was said. I love Wu Xingyan and Mozun aka Ye Fan’s relationship (of course only after reading the second arc).

Really great story, it gets kind of more into cultivation stuff later and feels a bit like it was going down... more>> a different route than sci-fi but it still managed to keep me unable to put my tablet down, I just had to read the next chapter and know what happens next! The ending made me bawl but it was good, it was a HE. <<less

the ending was good. I kinda want to cry..

The plot is quite solid, the MC and ML was quite reasonable in their own situations. I kinda admire Wen Nuo, stay cool headed, cold even, in any times.

Love it!

First, I think you should at least finish arc 2 before leaving a review, because many things happening in arc 1 would only be explained in later arc.

Second, I like that it's a rather thought-provoking story, though not so satisfying. I had some wtf moments while reading, but overall, it's not so bad, and it gets better as it goes.
