Flores was suddenly forced to annul her engagement.

She was just about to marry a duke’s son.

However, her fiancé, Ricardo, declared their engagement broken while also saying, “I don’t need you anymore, I already found a new fiancée.” with an arrogant attitude. The man showed no hint of sadness or regret.

“I don’t love you, either.”

Nevertheless, Ricardo was stunned by what Flores had to say next.

Flores had a stern look.

After all, she was merely pretending to be in love with him, and was even trying to cheat on him.

“Since the annulment of the engagement is established, I want my alimony!”

Ricardo, who was demanded such, couldn’t refuse.

Flores, who became free of her obligations, received her alimony and made her dream of running a café come true…

…Then, a year later.

A noble young man visited Flores’ shop.

He had sharp eyebrows, while his eyes were strict and honest.

He looked like the hero of a story.

“Flores?” He inquired.

She didn’t even recall knowing him. But for some reason, he knew about Flores, and was looking for her.

3 stars: Yet another pleasantly cute but formulaic and forgettable story, marked as three stars because it's unremarkable but has nothing too s*upid or anger-inducing and is generally nice (maybe my standards are too low or I need to find better novels). The translation is good and it's easy to read.

There's not much story as it's mostly generic-pleasant and generic-fluff slice of life. What little story there is can be summed up in two sentences:

Spoiler

Ryan the Hot Duke Knight becomes a regular at Flores's café, where he's into her and she obliviously thinks he's super cute but out of her league. Her ex-fiancé comes by once to threaten her, Ryan saves her and eventually he confesses his love, and they sleep together off-screen and will soon be married. The end.

I was thinking of rating it marginally higher to a 3.5 but knocked that half star off because the fantasy setting has no importance or relevance to the story and so was mildly disappointing. The only reason this story is "fantasy" is because the author wanted there to be dukes and knights and marriage alliances and "magic" that basically just replaces electronics, otherwise this story could have just as easily been modern-day with Ryan being the CEO of a big company and Flores running the café across the street. It kind of feels like it was written as a modern-day romance and then the author backtracked and edited it to be fantasy by explaining that the fridge and stove and other appliances are powered by magic, and instead of a security or spy camera it's a magic spell that conveniently records events and can be submitted as evidence for a restraining order, and swapped titles from "CEO" to "duke" and "salaryman" to "knight".

For all that though I'll say that it didn't read awkwardly or like it was patched together, it's just weirdly, thoroughly anachronistic—everything is totally modern from the way the characters speak and act and do their jobs and go about their daily lives.

The summary sets you up for a story about a strong-willed and crafty girl getting the better of her villainous fiancée and laughing her way to the bank in order to open her own café, but Flores isn't that interesting a character for all it's first-person narrated. I did generally like her and it was funny how she thirsts after the hot male lead and it's all too real how she thinks it's outrageous how such a hot guy can also have such a hot voice. The fangirling and crushing is realistic. But that's pretty much all there is for her personality.

Otherwise Flores is just kind of there, satisfied with her life with no further interests or ambitions other than earnestly running her café, which is complete with a refrigerator, music player, and cash register and functions like a modern real-world café only with appliances run by magic instead of electricity. But that's fine, this sort of setup is rife in fantasy light novels.

The ML Ryan is a duke of course and, as already mentioned, super hot as well as famous and lusted after by all ladies, and becomes a regular at Flores's café. He's stereotypically aloof to everyone but Flores (though we are more told this than shown), stereotypically secretly a sweets-lover, and stereotypically hardworking as a duke-knight who brings his paperwork to the café in the evenings to finish because that makes a lot of sense. He's not overtly cold to others or an ice statue to Flores either, instead he's the earnest type.

All in all, a short read that's pleasant but forgettable as nothing much happens and the characters are unmemorable, so may barely be or just not be worth your time. I'm stopping here or else this review will be longer than the actual story. <<less

Could have been more but wasn't.

The story opens relatively well unfortunately it's almost a ripoff of "Of Course I'll claim Palimony" and not nearly as well done. After the opening the story jumps into a pit and does nothing to get out. It's as predictable as clockwork. Every aspect of the story can be seen coming a mile away. The parts that are meant to be touching and or heartwarming come across as contrived and cliché.

Bottom line; it's short and that's a plus.

Meh. It was fluffy and cute and the beginning was certainly interesting. I was almost expecting the notary guy to be the surprise ML but it was some random duke. It went into a slump after that in my opinion. Also unnecessary mention of the duke being experienced in snusnu with other women. Kind of hypocritical for him to be relieved that she never slept with Ricardo when he couldn’t say the same.

Two stars for the solid opening and the decent translation but the rest was pretty lackluster and forgettable.

Hmmmmm... It's so-so. The first 2 chapters were good. Then it became boring. I like slice of life but this one is utterly and extremely predictable with nothing special at all. It's not bad per se but it's not very good either. Extremely average. That's it.

The story is fine, but there is too much fluff and not enough drama for my taste.

Also, I did know the "the enemy of my enemy is my ally", but I didn't know "the enemy of my enemy is my lover" concept. Because the main couple only start to notice each other because they're both hate MC's ex-fiancé and talk a lot about how he is suffering and all.

The engangement cancellment scene was actually quite good. She managed to scheme of her ex fiance to initiate cancelling the engagement and successfully left with an astronomical compensation. With her intelligent, I imagine that her life after that would be full of excitement but somehow I was wrong.

Well, there's nothing wrong with opening a cafe but I kinda hoped that her life would be more than just operating a cafe and interacting with ML. I also wish that the ending would be different.

ML's sacrifice to pass his title to his brother was considered a romantic gesture but why was he the only who made a sacrifice? I mean, it wasn't impossible to marry a duke although MC was only a baroness in the first place (just look at her first engagement) but she just didn't want to be a duchess.

I don't know why she became a coward all of the sudden. If it's because of her cafe, why didn't she try to discuss it first with ML whether it's possible to running a cafe while she became a duchess? Instead, she straightly chose to back out from marrying him if it meant that she would lose her cafe without even trying to compromise with ML. If she herself didn't want to sacrifice anything, why should ML?

4/5! Miscl**ked on my phone rip

Fluffy and cute - typical shoujo romance where both parties believe it's an unrequited love. No depictions or hints of cruelty or s*xual assault (aside from a slap to the face)

I wouldn't recommend this to those who enjoy more substantial plots with well fleshed out and realistic characters. It's a story that's very linear and predictable with little to no other significant side characters aside from MC's ex + his adulterous partner... and even then, the ex is a caricature of a scummy villain.

The... more>> MC and ML aren't well fleshed out and have no realistic, humanistic flaws or shortcomings that I could notice. The nice thing is that they have a very healthy relationship as friends and eventually lovers.

Tldr: weak plot but good if you want a fluffy read without much thinking. Mc/ML have a healthy, positive relationship. <<less

aaaww. This was so sweet I wonder why the ratings are low. There might not be a lot into the story, some might find it boring but for me it's not, it's nice to read a light story without unnecessary drama and seeing them pursuing their happiness and achieving it despite downs and sacrifices will make you feel light. I also love the consistency of the characters. FL is strong willed, cunning and smart, ML is cinnamon we can't have in reality.

The story is like a template for broken engagement starring a noble lady as the protagonist. It's like the heroes journey only for this specific scenario.

  • MC has engagement broken in a public place along with new fiance showing up to feel smug and condescending (although for once it's not a baron's daughter and actually MC is the daughter of a baron)
  • No parents for either side are present to intervene for something that involves both families
  • MC finds something new to do that may not have anything to do with typical noble activities
  • Person whose better looking than former fiance just so happens to stumble upon MC's new place
  • Slowly find out he's just as high position or even higher than former fiance position wise (In chapter one it says former-fiance was the only duke family in the kingdom yet new ML is also a duke's son of a different family.)
  • MC and ML grow close with ML either already having feelings for MC or developing them faster than you can say "just kiss already."
  • ex-fiance shows up so ML can rescue MC from them and cement they are the main couple.
I'm not saying it's a outright bad story, but it feels like the bare minimum required for this storyline. There's some minor twists to the basic formula which are good to the stories... more>> credit. Just don't go into the story expecting to be blown away it plays out exactly how you expect with very little deviation. <<less

Short and sweet. Wholesome fluff. I had a grin on my face at the end; very satisfying.
