Mu Xiaoya lived for twenty-six years before she knew that she had a sudden genetic disease. There was no medicine for it, and there was only death waiting for her.

Before she died, many people came to see her, but she was most impressed by Bai Chuan.

Bai Chuan was her neighbor, an autistic child with scholar’s syndrome. At that time, his face full of scars was desperate: “I – I studied all your medical records, but I have no way to save you.”

Mu Xiaoya was stunned: “You are a doctor?”

Bai Chuan: “I am not… …”

Mu Xiaoya’s disease was a genetic disease. Unless the gene was changed, there was no possibility of cure. However, Bai Chuan was the only person who tried to cure her after she fell ill.

Mu Xiaoya: “Why are you going to cure me?”

Bai Chuan: “I want to marry you.”

Mu Xiaoya laughed: “If you marry me, you will soon become a widower.”

Bai Chuan insisted: “I – I want to marry you.”

Bai Chuan, who has cognitive impairments, can’t express his meaning very well, and can only repeat it over and over again.

Later, Mu Xiaoya still died. When she woke up, she returned to the summer of her college graduation.

Bai Chuan: “I… I want to marry you.”

Mu Xiaoya: “Good.”

The starlight in the eyes of Bai Chuan was the most beautiful scenery that Mu Xiaoya had ever seen in her life.

I LOVE THIS!!!

I've reread this for 4-5 times already over the past months/years....

this is a heartwarming and light story so I recommend it to everyone!!!

this can provoke emotions... sometimes we have a prejudice against those with disabilities, and sometimes we pity them but don't have the heart or voluntary heart to lend a helping hand or be close with them... and we can't deny that...

it's really sad for Bai Chuan if Mu Xiaoya's rebirth didn't happen...

LESSONS LEARNED:

Spoiler
    1. Disability? No! This ability? Yes!
    2. Your family will always be there for you...
    3. Family is the best!
    4. You're not different, you're unique...
    5. "Disability can't be overcome, but must be accepted... Discomfort can be helped, whereas sense of shame can't be helped by anyone..."
    6. Everyone has their own strength and weaknesses...

I love this novel. It's so cute. Do note however, the autism in this novel is very, very stereotypical so if you're someone who couldn't stand author just obliterated the facts about mental condition for the sake of creating fluffy story, do not read this novel.

And for those who want to read this novel, please be aware that the presentation of mental condition in this novel isn't correct and do not use this novel as a reference when communicating with an actual autistic person.

For translation, just tiptop! I was not... more>> familiar with collab translation but I'm just glad the translator just linking the next chapter so I don't have to go back to NU to find it. <<less

Quality translation ✔️

I like how realistic the both of them try to become better and adjust for each other.

Contains lots of fluff 🥰 and tear jerking scenes as well

The story is very good. Romantic, heart-touching, and definitely interesting (you won't get bored.) Altough the reason for the female lead's recovery or cure is somewhat supernatural and does not have a reasonable cause, it doesn't really matter. I love this novel.

This was a major shift from the fantasy/romance, action/adventure books that I've gravitated towards in the past. But I really liked it. Why?

  • likable & honorable, well-intentioned characters: I was charmed by the characters, particularly Bai Chuan but also both sets of parents and big brother Bai Zheng.
  • pacing of plot development: after the whirlwind of the 1st chapter, the remainder unfolds slowly. It reflects the sweet and beautiful moments in a growing romance as well as the unavoidably painful scenarios that emerge when two very different people begin to build a life together.
  • realistic relationships: family and friends were not blindly supportive; their doubts and questions were evident without being obstructive. Within the marriage, there was a great deal of compromise as the 2 learned to navigate life together.
  • emotion evoking: I laughed aloud a few times and came close to crying more than once.
  • solid translation team [thank you MadPanda and Novi; this is the first review I've written and it is out of gratitude for you both] and thoughtful writer
Folks have complained about how autism is portrayed here as a disease. I understand the discomfort as well as the idea of an autism spectrum. Yet beyond the label as an illness, the actual mannerisms described are not dissimilar to those I experienced as an educator.

I agree with the translator about how it's gross that in this book autism is classified as a disease.

Also the book combines a bunch of various personally quirks together and calls all of it autism.

Negitives out of the way, I have to admit that the book is super cute and the couple's interactions are perfect, & the growth of both the main characters is amazing.

I-

I'm gonna cry... This was such a beautiful and extraordinary read..

I honestly recommend it to anyone.

If you're not sure if it's your type of novel, read it. Just read it. It is so worth it.

The relationship development is amazing to read. Both the FL and the ML are highly likable.

I love their story and will surely be rereading it.

5 stars.

I love this novel, though frustrating especially with people with Asperger's as it kinda limit their abilities and achievements with the never ending description of ML's condition. He has "autism" we get it; the author shouldn't reiterate it as we already know as a reader. It feels that the ML's capabilities are limited because he has "autism" when we know that he is excellent because he has Asperger's or what mentioned in this novel, scholar syndrome. As a person in the medical field, people with Asperger's are achievers as they... more>> have a specific field that they excel in and with super flying colours. Anyway, I love and enjoyed the story, that's why I am giving it a 5 star. <<less

This is probably the only novel that I've read over and over again and still cry each time. It's a work of romantic fiction. Anything else shouldn't be taken seriously. So don't expect to see an accurate portrayal of autism or that the cure for genetic disease is realistic. I mean, seriously, this is a rebirth novel and if you're willing to even read about rebirth, why complain about accurate portrayal?! It's like someone complaining about a character who transmigrated to Ancient China but you're upset because the description of... more>> Ancient China isn't accurate. Just read this for what it's meant to be - that is, a romance novel. <<less

Lots of flaws. From the start until the end it only focused in their romantic experience and the author even throw off a side character to gain their happy ending. The ending is anticlimactic too.

Disclaimer: this novel is not an accurate or realistic depiction of the condition the ML is suppose to have. If that bothers or offends you, I do not recommend reading.

If you suspend disbelief and just accept the way the ML is written, what you end up with is a really lovely romance. The FL is reborn and decides to connect with someone from her past who she did not know would be so despondent at her death. She helps him, loves him and he has always adored her in... more>> return. His family is a little too OP and manipulative to be believed. They arent villains. But they do a lot to support the ML. Their whole family revolves around him The world building does its job. Alot of the side characters become one note jokes. Still the whole story and especially the kindness between our two leads is heartwarming. I strongly recommend this story so long as you dont mistake it for an accurate depiction of anything. Its a true fantasy in a modern setting. <<less

Ah I remember this story. I feel like the FL must have a huge patience when dealing with the ML. It's not everyday you can read a non domineering ML of Chinese Novel, so this one is certainly different. I really appreciate how the story actually put the FL going to the therapist to get more insight as for how to treat her husband well. It's not a all flowery route in marriage especially since she is quite young? (When she agreed to marry the ML).

Spoiler

I remember the FL taught her husband to used the cab to go to work when they live outside and just how much trouble she had to face because even a simple thing as that is a difficult things for her husband to do.

[collapse]

Spoiler

the most awkward thing is when they actually enter physical intimacy because the FL had to lead the ML but the ML really like to do it so he always want more

[collapse]

this story mostly show the progress of how the FL adjusting her life as a wife to an autistic spouse. As the FL become sick later on, the ML's family is concern how their son will close himself if the FL is no longer around. (Wait is this a spoiler)

Spoiler

the eventual ending is when the FL appreciate her being alive even after her original death

For 77 chapters, it's quite a ride. <<less

I really enjoyd this novel, there's some debate about it not being realistic - but I don't read novels for realism. This does give a sympathetic view on how one can approach someone with severe Aspergers' or someone on the autism spectrum, with patience.

The ML is one of the more original ones I've read, in that he's not dominant and arrogant, but still supports the FL emotionally. He tries to modify himself and the FL is also one who isn't s*upid and selfish but is kind and patient. Because of... more>> the ML's condition they end up talking a lot more that other couples and the life together is sweet and rich. <<less

This one has a really beautiful story, especially if you like slice of life. I was actually quite doubtful at first but I’m glad I gave it a try. Although the ML is rich, smart and handsome, same as the usual protagonists of most novels, but what made him different is his autism. Nevertheless, it warms the heart when you read about his pure love for the FL. It’s not like other romance where you get the fluffy feeling but it’s one that is really touching.

Moreover, there’s no other love... more>> interests for both MC, instead, the story revolves around the challenges they encounter along the way. Some chapters actually made me cry. After reading this, it gave me some lingering feelings which not common since I usually move on to another piece once I finish reading something. I think this shows how the story has left a big impact to me. <<less

This is such a good book! It didn't turn out anything like I expected and there's a lot of angst but it's all worth it. The dog food the MC and ML throw at us is so sweet, it rotted my teeth but I kept coming back for more.

It's light-read, short, and there's no drama. Just a novel about ordinary girl and her extraordinary husband. Sometimes it's heartwarming, sometimes it makes you stressed for them, sometimes it's just so silly that makes you didn't know either to laugh or cry.

In short, it's enjoyable to read.

This was short and sweet :3

I was hesitating to read this novel in the beginning since the summary didn't seem that interesting but trust me, you won't regret it.

Tbh the whole novel I was wondering how the author would keep her alive even though she had a genetic disease and to be honest, I was disappointed...

Spoiler

So a jade she was wearing released rays and her genes mutated so although she still had some problems she didn't die. This part just felt too unrealistic and just boring. Like, I wasted all this time feeling anxious about what would happen to the ML and how sad he would be, but instead I didn't feel that anxiousness at all which was nice but also felt a disappointing.

[collapse]

Apart from that, the relationship between the ML and FL is really cute and the kid is sweeetttt. His relation with the ML is pretty funny. The novel went at a decent pace and the translation was good. Would I read it again? Not really. <<less

The thing about novels where mental illness is used as part of the plot device is that - I truly do not know enough about mental illnesses (such as autism in this one) to be able to see this novel as a “realistic” take on the illness. Sometimes, I feel like around the ending and extra chapters - they give off the illusion that the character is “healed” or at least extremely high functioning despite being differently abled. Which I think can happen but is not usually the case?

However, as... more>> a romance novel - this gets 4/5 stars for me. Because it made me feel. There were so many chapters where I cried for the characters and I feel like that is noteworthy because for a piece of writing to be able to immerse their reader is a feat in itself. <<less
