Lin Jie is the owner of a bookstore in another world.

He’s kind and warm-hearted, often recommending healing books to customers who are going through a tough time. From time to time, he secretly promotes his own work too.

Over time, these customers begin to respect him greatly, some even frequently bringing local specialties to repay his favor. They often seek his professional opinion when it comes to selecting books, and share their experiences with this ordinary bookstore owner to people around them.

They respectfully and intimately refer to him using names such as the “Demon God’s Lackey”, “Propagator of the Flesh and Blood Gospel”, “ ‘Corpse Devouring Sect’s Rites and Customs’ Author” and “Shepherd of the Stars”.

A very refreshing and new take on the misunderstanding OP MC trope, ok worldbulding with great charater developement and interaction. The comedy here feels natrual and funny without being cringey. I wish some of the twist got more time to develop and explain some of the phenomena. Same thing with few part of the world just got skimmed by and just bring up for the sake of the ending. The last few chapter show that he can write these part better and deeper but anyway it's some missed opportunity to... more>> be even greater than it already is. Overall great read with some flaws. 4.5/5 <<less

It was very entertaining during the first arc but after that it became just boring and repetitive. Any new ideas that are introduced are subsequently tossed aside to keep the status quo.

Eventually it's own premise hinders it but it stubbornly refuses to do anything else and you'll wonder why this novel didn't end 300 chapters ago.
No character is allowed to have any opinion of the MC that is not abject worship, anyone who doesn't feel this way is either killed or is never seen again. All of those... more>> interesting characters in the first arc turn into just one extremely boring one-note character.

I rate the first arc a 4/5. Everything else is 1.5/5. Read the first arc then stop. <<less

Very interesting plot that went down the drain with all the misunderstanding.

Spoiler

all of his customers are either old men or really young jade beauties (after all what can you expect from a chinese novel, there is never another outstanding young man aside from MC and there isn't a single old lady in the whole novel),

I was expecting his customers from all age and all walk of life, but what we got was 2 old men and the rest all jade beauties.

I really hate characters who leaches of others and whose everything is based on something given by another person. At least the old dudes had something going on on their own, they were badass even without MC, but all the girls got all their power from MC, without him they won't be jack shit.

Was interesting in the beginning but became a drag to read, there isn't anything interesting going on. <<less

Basically a misunderstanding novel with Lovecraftian elements added to it. At times I think the misunderstandings does get a bit repetitive but overall it's a solid read and doesn't outstay it's welcome.

It was alright. The last 1/4 of the novel was a bit weaker and I wish the ending would bring more closure, but I kinda liked it.

Be warned that there are A LOT of misunderstandings: MC is a regular bookstore owner who genuinely wants to sell regular books, but because of the eldritch mumbo-jumbo his customers leave the place with stuff like "Blood sacrifices for dummies", so if you're not a fan of this trope, better move along, it's played hard here, though I did not find it that annoying.

Side... more>> characters are nothing to write home about, but the world itself was interesting and I liked the lovecraftian vibes.

I would say this is somewhere between 3.5 and 4, but I am feeling generous today. <<less

great pacing for a story about a clueless transmigrator OP MC.

minus one star (or more) as the plot comes to an abrupt end after the big reveal.

readers are left feeling like they didn't get quite enough of boss lin, which tbh, feels a bit like a cop-out.

I love this novel. I like main character who is unaware of what he is doing. I'm also interested in blackie and who he really is. I must say our blackie is doing amazing things!

The world is build wonderfully. It is complex enough to pull me in. There always is something that I not know about this world and author is doing great job explaing things I want to know. Characters are also very interesting. They have nice build up and are not like those basic ones that are usually... more>> used in novels. I have so much fun reading this because of all of the misunderstandings that are happening. I'm waiting for next chapter in english!

Spoiler: (I think there is somethig is wrong with main character he is now behaving as normally as he can but... Let's just remember that he summoned The Demon God for books ekhem...) <<less

Typical misunderstanding book, the people visiting and timing is completely coincidental, however, what I really like about this book is that MC uses logic to deduce the customer's current situation, although he does spout some bullsh*t (which the customer completely misunderstands), and that always leads to some kind of truth or seems to be the answer to whatever problem the customer is facing, it doesn't happen too much, its much better than those novels where you go in and MC shows you a chess game and the move to complete... more>> it as sheer coincidence, the person who visited will need that chess move for whatever thing he is planning to do next (reference to I'm actually a cultivation bigshot-a book based 100% on coincidence and misunderstanding) <<less

.... I have no words. As far as misunderstanding stories go, I think this is even better than "Power In The Shadows". I cannot put into words how much joy reading this gave me. The translation by hosted novels is amazing and got me hooked after reading the first chapter of the manhua. The raw novel is also easy to read when mtled. All-in-all.... I love Lin Jie, and want more Lin Jie,

personally I think world building could definetly be better but aside from that I dont have any complaints, the characters each have their own different personalities and their own lives that dont over lap or feel like too much. Its all written well and the author does a good job with making you want more, also the MC is pretty likeable, also I love how there isnt any unnecessary love subplots which I enjoy!

no complaints 10/10

The story revolves around an MC who has been isekai-ed to an alternative universe where magic, gods, lots of mysterious things occur. The world itself is dark and cruel and the author doesn't hesitate to paint its cruelty at times. The MC becomes a shopkeeper of books which contain horrible magic and secrets to which he is unaware of. He is contracted by a demon to run a bookshop of these books, however, he's unaware of the outside world's magic and all that stuff (shockingly). MC just decided not to... more>> explore the world he isekai-ed in apparently. He is also unaware of the secrets the books he sells which autocorrects? Into different Earth novels when he reads them but changes into something else to his customers. And then everyone thinks he's some super god or some bullshit.

MC: IF you like OP MC's with a lot of people misunderstanding him, like To Be a Power in the Shadows, and the Villain Wants to Live, you will enjoy this. However, his character - as in personality and so on, lacks almost any growth for the 184 chapters I have read. The story focuses more on side characters and their growth, which is interesting and probably one of the only good points of this novel.

Story: You read the story for the side characters and the world building, there's no clear cut goal yet and there are just hints of slice of life.

The translators update this story VERY slowly and also have a ridiculous price tag for reading ahead (notice the tag Money Grubber in this page), you might as well just go read Villain Wants to Live which updates way more faster and also better prices. But its a fun read so enjoy it. <<less

Hello.

So this is my first time I leave a review in novel. Maybe you are wondering why.

That is because this Novel is literal tr*sh. While some people give this a 5 or 4 star this sh*t novel is just 1 star quality. The misunderstanding is going too far, how he talk to people and his bullls*t moves, how he thinks like 'woahhh he is wet I have to give her a towel'even though it is clearly blood. Sh*t this Novel is undeserving such a praise. So I am suprise this... more>> is in ranking of UN.i dont know if you reader of this is juat influence by internet to read this like "woahh this novel is cool they said but for me its tr*sh but welp they said this is cool so this is cool'sighhhhhh I'm quiet dissapointed when I read it so just warning for those who want to read it. DONT TRUST THE PREVIOUS REVIEW OF THIS NOVEL. THEY ARE JUST LIKELY BRAINWASH OR JUST BEGGINERS IN READING NOVEL.

That's all. Bye bye

Note:for those who are thinks this Novel is good and you notice my review plss just don't criticize me too much. Thanks <<less

Honestly a great series. It follows a bookstore owner who originates from Earth but took over a bookstore in a Victorian-themed fantasy world. The main character sees everything as normal, but to everyone else nothing about the bookstore can be called ordinary. The books and the advice he gives out happen to suit the customers, containing eldritch knowledge that allows them to advance and change their fates. It features a variety of interesting characters and fun situations, and I would absolutely say it's worthy of its current rating (4.7/5 as... more>> of this review). <<less

I think there's not enough chapters yet for a thorough review, but so far I really like this novel. It's an easy read and the MC is really cool. I really like MCs who are naive and promotes misunderstandings lol.

Anyway it's probably not for serious readers whose looking for smart side characters cause the MC will probably solve everything through his misunderstandings.

And I'm looking forward to more plottwists down the road, but please no romcom, I would have to stop reading if that happens huhu

... more>> Edit:

Stopped reading, I feel like it got boring real quick. It's too wordy with the same thing happening each time. I don't mind the misunderstandings but if it could only just directly get to the point instead of reiterating everything already mentioned before. And MC should atleast slowly become more aware but it looks like he'll stay like that until he unknowingly converts everyone to be believers. <<less

This is the story of a clueless book keeper from earth with good speaking skills, he make a deal with an unknown entity to grand his wish and in exchange pass to a different world where his job is to spread the books and knowledge they contain.

Spoiler

the trick is that while the MC think he is helping random normal people, such as: a bothered young lady in distress, a nice old man, retired military's men and more by giving them some guidance to help them relax and recommending a nice random book that seem suitable to help, like "the little prince". While in reality he speak with the top powerhouse such as a high level black magician, one of the seven knights who own the great demon sword and a young and promising hunter who belong to the 1 percent of rich people in the world and the books he give them are actually taboo books such as "Flesh and Blood Gospel" and "Corpse Devouring Sect’s Rites and Customs", all of which has the capability to influence the world situation and because he dare give away such books like they are normal books and let them borrow and buy them like in a normal bookshop the people get the wrong impression of him and think of him as a high level entity that take a leisure and neutral stand. Most of the story is based on the misunderstanding of both sides and how each conversation the MC is having is misinterpreted and result in each person having his own speculation and gains without even understanding that his world didn't manage to get to the other side. The series follow after the MC and the misunderstanding he create and how everything is being influence as a result.

Its a pretty interesting story. The level of misunderstandings are funny too.

Its kinda similar to "Overlord" and a bit of "Lord of the Mysteries" and "Eminence in the Shadow" where they believe the MC has a big world changing scheme or is a supreme higher being when in reality, he's just your average joe who literally just makes stuff up as he goes or just thinking normal stuff (usually unaware what people are assuming of him)

Spoiler

The most interesting thing in this story is that the title, even the context of the books he recommends are different for others.

Such as when he recommended the book "The little prince" to one of the characters, but for them the title of the book was "The Seed of the Abyss"

[collapse]

It makes you wonder if the books MC recommends are actually normal books but look like demon books to others

Or are the books actually demon books that only look normal to the MC.

It just love this dilemma!

Its a super fun story, its easy to read and its a good story so I really recommend this <<less
