After the Little Crybaby Enters the Nightmare Cycle

Chi Nan was the young man in one of the Top 10 forbidden paintings, the Crying Boy. It was said that he would bring disaster, so his memories were sealed and his soul was locked in the painting.

One day, Chi Nan entered the body of a blind young master who died accidentally. The young master was the owner of this forbidden painting. However, Chi Nan had stayed in the painting for a long time. He lost the happiness and sadness of human beings. The only emotion he could show on his face was: tears.

Chi Nan made three wishes to the gods: regain his vision, stop crying and get his memories back.

Thus, he was invited into the world of terror, the Nightmare Cycle. Break the nightmares to gain points and grant his wishes.

Ordinary players: Ahhh, it is terrible! I want to wake up!

Meanwhile, Chi Nan moved through the nightmares, grabbing small skeletons at the crane machine in the amus**ent park at midnight, building ice sculptures with corpses in a snowy country’s mass grave and dancing with a fierce ghost in a life-threatening waltz until dawn.

The dreams were really good. There were endless games, ghosts who tried to amuse him and a mysterious boss who sent him good medicine every day.

Chi Nan cried happily but when he cried, the ghosts of the world trembled.

***

The owner of the body was called You Yu and he suspected that he didn’t die accidentally. In order to understand the truth behind his death and be reborn in his body, he sold his soul to the world called the ‘Nightmare Cycle.’ He became the dream maker behind the scenes, conscientiously creating dreams of terror.

He didn’t expect that he would meet his body in the infinite nightmare he created with his own hands. The user of the body was a bigshot who loved to shed tears. This person was diligent in going through the instances to earn points and restore vision for him.

Thus, You Yu secretly added the sweetest honey to medicine and sent it to Chi Nan at midnight every day. So why did the little crybaby cry again after drinking it?

idk why I dont like this ML at all... from the start and i’m up in chapter.25..

okay yes he is psychopath but deliberately teasing and trying to make MC cry for his own curious is kinda gross :/ sure maybe in the future when he falls in love he’ll become scared and sad whenever MC cries but im so tired of reading ML going like “🤨oh? you’re soooo different from others... 😯 how interesting... 🤭☺️”

I enjoyed it! I think overall, this was a very relaxing experience for me to read. Although most of the arcs are forgettable, I think the main point is to build up the relationship between the CP as naturally as possible. So for that, work-line/adventurous arcs being very chill (to the point where I had a hard time even remembering the cruise arc, + had to go back to jog my memory) is a forgivable case. A.k.a. Here for the romance + how it turns out is the exciting part.... more>> The infinite flow arcs are more like vacation trips to take with the couple, so less focus on that is fine.

I'm really sold by their relationship at the end of the novel! I enjoyed the shift in power dynamics, from ML having the higher position at the beginning, to being equals to being ??? Whatever they ended up being at the end lol. I enjoy that the ML becomes progressively less cool and more like a little 'gege~' brat by the end of the story. Like a smug little boy who ended up with his crush. I like it!! I like it alot!! And I also like the MC's reversal charm

Also a warning for those who are interested but it's kind of a slow burn? They don't get together until like, the very end. But it's a very fulfilling ride!! And it's not sadistic at all, dont be fooled by the first arc!! It's a very simple, sweet, interesting story about two oblivious dudes who end up finding out they like each other way more than they realized. I had a good time reading, I enjoyed it alot. So 4* for this one!! <<less

Incredibly interesting plots per Nightmare. The side characters are not similar at all and they have different quirks and personality. I was a bit reluctant to read it at first because I hate horror genre but I manage to finish this one. Not scary at all, maybe gruesome but luckily I got a poor imagination.

QAQ Cute moments with You Yu and Chi Nan. Their relationship was not established quickly as they only acknowledged and realized feelings towards near end.

"Chi Nan, you are my future." Chi Nan bb!!!

Can I just say... more>> I love Hei Cha, Rui Rui and Rui Rui's mom? Freaking great, you guys!!!

Lmaoo, You Yu's so dumbb with Jiu. 😂 Poor Jiu, don't worry! You Yu will make up for the lost years! <<less

I really liked this novel, it reminded me a lot of the novel "Supernatural Movie Actor App" I even wonder if they are by the same author, so whoever loved the novel Supernatural Movie Actor App will like this one.

This novel has a horror theme, but I don't think it's heavy at all, I don't think it's scary, unless you're reading it at night alone at home, because then it can be a little scary 😂

I found it an interesting and original plot.

But, if you want romance, I think there... more>> was a lot of that missing, of course, the characters are interested in each other, they favor each other and they also end up together, but the romance I found light.

I recommend Supernatural Movie Actor App again, as I found this one much better and has the same theme.

Novel rating: 8.5/10

(3.9 / 5) Honestly I don't have much to say about this novel. The characters weren't bad. I enjoyed the side characters a lot, but was disappointed in the end when they didn't really give a proper closure to them:

Spoiler

What happened to them after the bug? Did they successfully escape??

[collapse]

The main characters were ok. Kinda bland, but I really don't mind. The instances were comprehensible, and MC's way of solving them were not that bad. Overall, it was relaxing and I didn't really feel the need to put too much thought into it.

I believe that my rating may change as time goes on, since I've barely read any unlimited flow and horror novels. However, when that time comes, I probably won't remember this. <<less

There's nothing unexpected here, but I actually think that's to its credit. A lot of transmigration stories go on until they get boring. This one doesn't. I stayed entertained throughout.

If you're looking for something simple and cute with a dash of blood, give this one a go.

Sidenote: The title is deceptive. The MC and love interest are fearless and practical.

One of the very few occasions where the summary actually does a disservice to the novel. What flippin' crybaby? The MC is stone-faced and only cries because of physical contact, sweets and when sleeping. He does not rely on his tears to fool anyone into helping him. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at the author's handling of it - the MC makes some very observant remarks about how taboo it is for men to cry publicly in society.

The instances were good enough, though if the MCs weren't there, how... more>> on earth did the author expect any of the regular players to pass them? Especially the Candle-town arc. Without the MC and ML, everyone would have died (similarly with the [mosaic] school - some of the rules were not solvable). There wasn't a strong logical thread throughout, it was very much, as a character remarks, learn how not to die through others' deaths.

The last arc was pretty confusing. I'm not convinced by the explanation. Even though the translator is very good, reading it felt like I was reading MTL - the words on the page made sense but the meaning did not compute. The "big reveal" at the end wasn't really a twist. It was foreshadowed enough that you could guess it.

Lastly, the relationship between the MC and the ML: for most of the book, the ML treats the MC as a novel toy. He does gradually become aware of his feelings, but when the pieces fall in place for him and he realises exactly who the MC is, he has basically no remorse for his previous actions? Then again, he does suffer a lot (off camera) in the next part so I guess it kind of cancels out. Heh heh.

Overall, this is definitely not the best infinite flow, but it does what it sets out to do and ties up pretty much all the loose ends. Would've liked an extra where they met back up with Hei Cha, but you can't have everything in life. <<less

This is the slowest romance i've ever read. This is like if you put a piece of bread in a toaster and it took 3 hours to get cripsy but it doesn't. It just doesn't. Then you wait another 3 hours and maybe you'll have a little crunch. But if you're looking for that toast to be on the burnt side of crunch then my friend, you and I are gonna be waiting a long-ass time.

If you're here for the male yandere tag and looking to see some romance, I... more>> am sad to report it TAKES SO LONG and if you ask me,...... it's not really yandere, i'd define it as obsessive. And romance? Idk, idk this is was on the verge of hand holding and soft kisses on the cheek, there is no snu snu. There is no on the lips kissing. There is no SPICE. You want a spicy meal? Not here. No no.

But this shouldn't deter you from reading it. If you love infinite flow and a good mystery, I will suggest this wholeheartedly. I liked Chi Nan (the MC) and the ML for their story and that's why I rank this so high, I can't tell you more about this because tbh this is a story you need to jump in and let the author slowly introduce you to everything. I will say that even though there isn't much romance, the moments where they interact it feels like they can be the only two people in the room and truly focus on each other.

Why only 4 stars? I'm salty, I wanted my spice. I think this story needs the spice element. Thank you translators for you hard work thou, I enjoyed this. <<less

It's okay in my book. The romance is not compelling but it makes sense seeing how they both are bonded by the tragedy and promises that they made which are basically stronger than just purely hormone or emotional bond. The story and the world are thought out quite well. Even the ones where the instances are made creatively as most instances are quite interesting.

My only complete is that at some point that if you put it like a game building perspective the instances comes off as somewhat unfair in some... more>> points. In a puzzle based survival, I think around two points that I think is like impossible to achieve. Why this is the case is what you should find out yourself I'm afraid.

Thus while the world itself was interesting in a fantasy and logical way. The instances is fantastical creative, but the points above does makes the system rather unfavorable. I can't give it a full star on this. Also there is a slight tone issue where the horror feeling drops off occasionally too. The balance wasn't there yet in my opinion. But overall I like this series and it is pretty fun read.

The start is promising but as you read along each instance gets so boring, like definitely not much horror, I didn't feel much of it, the mystery of each instance is there but it doesn't just hook you on. The instance I most liked was 'Highway 404' and onward.

The romance/relationship development is good but it could've been developed so much better and once our leads get together, Its cute as helll that I'm screaming that if the author made them this cute sooner, my rating would have been high.

The best... more>> part of the novel are definitely the side characters! I just love how they are all so well fleshed out! Have their own goals, ideas and can hold their own! Mostly Side characters just serve as foil in UFs but I loved them a lot in here. In Every instance, Chi Nan met really interesting people that it felt like a collection of encounters/stories just like Natsume Yuujinchou/kino no tabi.

The overarching mystery, how it was resolved and ending for me was perfect.I won't say its something that will overwhelm you, its a common used setting now in novel but I still felt it was beautifully dealt with!

Tho the side characters and ending did satisfy me, it doesn't erase the fact that you have to go through like 80 chapters of boredom with only interesting side characters catching your interest (atleast for me) to reach the interesting instance, cute romance and Beautiful ending. Thus the 3 stars.

Do I recommend it? If you are hardcore fan of horror and mystery... then no I don't think its for you but its definitely for people intrigued by the things I mentioned above! It was worthwhile reading it all in all! <<less

It's a B horror film, gore for shock effects, nothing complex or complicated, everything's very straightforward.
A popcorn novel that's meant to serve superficial entertainment, don't expect logic or consistency and don't take the description seriously, it sound way more obscure/interesting then it actually is.

I like some of the side-characters more than the MC and ML, both are stereotypes.
ML's weird obsession with MC's tears is unique at the start but gets just creepy the longer it goes on, it crosses a line that makes it really uncomfortable to read and has worsened my impression of the ML.
There's thrilling-creepy and creepy-creepy, an ML should never be the latter.
That makes the romance weird as well, I still don't understand why they fell in love at all and I can't say that it's believable, more like "convenient" or because of a lack of options.

World-building is minimal, the best ideas aren't used efficiently either, everything seems half-baked and shallow.
If you think about certain aspects you'll notice that they make little sense, the writer either didn't care or forgot to explain whatever it was they used to justify the discrepancies, so try not to look into it too deeply.

To be perfectly honest, I expected a higher quality after reading all the shining 5 star reviews, maybe decades of horror media consumption are a disadvantage, the horror/mystery aspects of the novel left me completely cold.
It was just boring.

I guess if you just want entertainment and are into this kind of trope then give it a go, it's not worse than other novels of the same type, but by far not even close to something worth 5 stars.

Honestly this was a not bad read. But if you've read really amazing unlimited flow/horror novels such as Supernatural Movie Actor App and This Damned Thirst for Survival, this novel MAY be subpar and bland. However, if you're a first time reader in the genre or not very "experienced", this novel will be a really really good read. I personally still enjoyed it. It deserves to be a 3.9 to 4.1/ 5 rating.

Side note, the novel isn't as "exciting" as the description.

The world building was very well thought out and... more>> it had TONS of potential. Unlike some novels where the systems and "wish grating" medium pops up of no where, the author for this novel really created a whole backstory for it which is really good! Another thing I enjoyed is that there were dream makers who create the nightmares instead of system built ones. And I agree with one of the reviewers wanting to see the different "styles" of nightmares of various dream makers as part of the plot. That would have made for a very interesting concept.

As for the arcs, they were all good. It's not as brain twisty as some but they were nicely written, unique and interesting. However, they didn't have the urgency (?) of some unlimited flow arcs which may come of as bland to some? But don't let this fool you. Each arc was beautifully written and would not let you down.

Now on to the main plotline. There IS a major overall plot that the author has blatantly foreshadowed hahaha. It was so obvious but at the same time quite an interesting twist. I really really realllllllllyyyyyy liked the plot part
Spoiler

where we find out about how the Crying Boy painting came about. I love love lovvvvveeeeddd the fact that No 9 was You Yu and that he was so obsessed with Chi Nan even though they met for that ONE time. I also loved that he found the painting and was obsessing over it and the fact that he low-key missed his mysterious friend aka You Yu. SO FRIGGIN GOOD!

[collapse]

Another part of the plot that was super interesting was the fact that
Spoiler

there were part of a time paradox and that Chi Nan actually faced this situation before in the past and locked himself in the painting to stop the loop but forgot about it and unlocked himself from his self made prison. I also liked the fact that the past Chi Nan decided go stay back to stop the cycle from repeating ever again so that the current Chi Nan gets to live the future he had always hoped for wuuuu.. An extra for a parallel time line for No 9 and past Chi Nan would have been great but the bit about No 9 waiting for him for his lifetime was bittersweet and make Chi Nan and You Yu's relationship all the more perfect and destinied.

[collapse]

However, there were a few plot holes and I agree with the reviewer who said that it wasn't "cleaned up" well. I honestly don't even know how an emotionally indifferent boy such as our MC found out that the ML liked him. It just popped out of nowhere! And also all the side characters were not justtifically (is this a word?) settled. They were so well developed but after one of the major arc (that was part of the major plot), they were just throwed aside and not mentioned anymore. We never knew what happened to them. It would have been amazing if there was an extra on them. Also, some part of the plot was super confusing too but honestly I don't really mind. I just glossed over them hahahaha.
Spoiler

I also would have liked something on how Chi Nan and Little You Yu interested when he was in the paiting

[collapse]

Moving on to the MC and the ML. I loved the emotionally unintelligent MC and his cute tendency to cry. He was adorable! But I felt that there was an inconsistency in his character. He liked/ cared about his friends but later on the friends werent thought of again even though they were in a tricky situation. As for the "sick" ML, wells he was alright too. After reading This Damned Thirst For Survival, he to me wasn't sick enough hahaha. However, I did like the fact that he kept teasing the MC and using innuendos. It was super cute. But this poor little guy had a sad backstory. I'm glad he had the MC. Their overall romance wasn't that good. It wasn't in depth enough nor was it fluffy or intense enough. But I kinda understand how the ML fell in love. It started out as an interest in something new and it turned into love and concern! As for the MC, it started out as friend concern, then guilt for using the ML's body then I guess the classic from friends to lovers under the ML's oh so gentler care and teasing? HOWEVER, there is a tie in the end that makes this relationship PERFECT and meant to be 💓💓💓

All in all, it was a good and decent read. Something unique in terms of world building and plot wise, however it is not the best and it has some plot holes and loose ends that could have been better tied. Recommended if one enjoys/want to try the horror/unlimted flow genre and like cute naive protagonist. <<less

There seemed to be a lot of mixed reviews on this, so it was almost something I passed up on reading. However, after finding nothing else I settled in and decided to give it a try.

I’m very glad I did. I enjoy this sort of horror instance novel that could end in death. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

It reminded me of another novel who’s name I’ve forgotten, however the overall premise is similar in that the MC and ML where one was forced to... more>> do instances with no past memories of his past while the other was one of the proctors of the “exams.”

Anyway, this was really interesting and even the time loop was a pretty cool way to answer the questions that circulated this entire novel. I will admit that after chapter 100 some of the chapter of explanation became boring, but it was still done well enough. It just didn’t have much excitement of the other arcs because it was more focused on answering the questions of who what when where and why.

4.5 and I would recommend this to anyone craving a bit of mystery. <<less

This was so interesting u til around chapter 100. I swear ive yet to read a nove, with these types of instances that ends amazingly. This book was amazing, the way everything fell into place 😍

The pace, the characters, everything was so good! I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time.

Many unlimited flow books have an ending arc I don't really enjoy, like the system going berserk or something but this one was so different and so good! I really loved this ending arc and how everything came together. It is worth 10 stars and the translation too!

And for some people scared of this being a relationship that is abusive or one... more>> that makes no sense - just keep reading! There is no yandere tag guys! The story goes on and you learn why everything happens and it is truly such a sweet and lovely and also long awaited and yearned for relationship. <<less

It was a good story... Both main leads were interesting and the stories were engaging.

It does says it has comedy but for me it only had some light-hearted moments...

In the horror aspect I give it a 6.5, I've read some hair-raising novels and this one fell a bit short..... What it did have was a lot of gore and descriptive mu*der and corpse scenes that were a bit nauseating.

When it came to the arcs, they were interesting, but they had some inconsistencies and contradictions that distracted a bit, but not... more>> enough to stop reading...

The end was ok, the author tried to tie all loose ends, though it felt a bit underwhelming. Even though I know friends of the MC were alright I would have like to see a glimpse of them in the extras...

Overall it was good but could have been better with some slight changes. <<less

Guys, the love and care that went into this story is so wonderful. I liked the pacing and I love the mystery and I ADORE OUR COUPLE SO MUCH.

MC is just a little silly guy and ML is an even sillier guy.

I personally liked this. I've read too many novels recently that fleshed out the story too much to the point that it was boring, so this quite concise plot hooked me. The instances were quick, they got to the point quickly and was easy to understand, a + point for me as I don't like instances spanning over 5+ chapters and still getting nowhere.

Unlike readers who are hating the "bland" personality of the MC, I quite understand him especially since it was later explained in the last arc. Him walking... more>> around like nothing matters to him, only thinking about sleep and eating, well I took it to be because he was stuck in the painting that's why those are his focus and Chi Nan did say that he doesn't understand emotions and cant express/feel emotions. So it made sense when when he alienate from everything and only the ML matters, later explained why.

But

Spoiler

Time loop is my weakness. Novels I read about time loop/paradox always frustrate me. This one wasn't quite complicated but still there were things I didn't understand. My mind was like read it again, I read and still couldn't understand -_- nonetheless, the time loop was quite enjoyable. Someone mentioned that they wished to see the side characters end, yes an extra on them would have been better
