Once upon a time, there was a swordsman who wielded the sword, lived by the sword, and died by the sword.

After days and months of battle, the swordsman chose death by his own free will, but was reborn as Fay Hanse Diestburg, the third prince of the kingdom of Diestburg.

Wanting to distance himself from his past life where he lived as if possessed by the sword, Fay decided to just lead a life of a wastrel, earning the nickname: “tr*sh Prince”.

However, one day, because of a pact with the neighboring kingdom’s Afillis royal house, Fay is sent to war, leading reinforcement troops. On the battlefield, Fay witnesses a scene of despair, as the “Hero”, an existence possessing power rivaling tens of thousands, ravaged the battlefield.

Fay considered returning to the kingdom, but a certain knight’s death manages to shake his heart, thus he decided to wield the sword once again — the legend of the strongest lazy prince begins!

This is unreal. How come such a garbage of a light novel got 4.5? I ve made an account at 5:00 am just because of this story. I ve been reading this reincarnation genre for 4 years and I ve read every book about reincarnation in this website but holy $%#@ was it difficult to read this one

First of all, make no mistake I know what this "kind" of novel tries to do usually. It presents an MC who was the best at this or that in his world. He... more>> reincarnates in this or that world and starts flexing his power while trying to hide it. Thi is the important part cause it pushes the reader to recognize himself in the character or I d say to recognize himself in the " normal " side of the MC. I call this kind of novel a self-m*sturbation novel. It s my guilty pleasure, I know and I ain t gonna lie. This kind of novel doesn t need to be a master piece you can ignore its flaws but it has one job and it s to immerse you in the story but... this garbage of an author can t even do this one thing right. Come on man you had one job.

1. The MC is realllllllllly the embodiment of the word edgy. You know there is a fine line between being cool and just freaking edge lord. Try to guess in which category this MC falls. He starts off being interesting, but he ends up acting like a teenager with a chuunibyou syndrome. I ended up skiping some parts while reading cause I just can t believe the sh*t he is spitting
Spoiler

After saving the kingdom he is allied with, the princess asks him how to get as strong as him and guess what he says? "Do you want to become a beast like me"... I mean for real man why can t you give a normal answer. The best part is how he died in his forner life. Apparently he reached the top in swordmanship and guess what happened? Did he die of old age or all the martial artists go after gis life. Nope, He freaking killed himself cause yeah loneliness. He was killed by his own edginess

[collapse]

2. The story is way too rushed. And makes no sense. The MC goes from not wanting to interefere in the war to participating to wondering why he took part in that war.
Spoiler

he says he wants to lead a peaceful life and taking the sword will lead him to death and be held down by his desire to get stronger (f***** cringe, right ?) but guess what ? 3 chapters later, he meets someone who is dying on the battlefield. he decides to fight cause he wanna die with a smile in his face like that guy...2 chapters later he is like why did I fight that war...

[collapse]

3. The characters don t have a personnality. Seems like their thinking process is that of a 6 years old and they are only there to help the MC to be more cringy than he already is. Not gonna lie the moment I think the MC can t be more cringy, there comes a character to help him to reach another level of cringe.

I can keep going on and on but I gotta sleep. Just don t read this story please have some respect for yourself and your time

If you wanna read something go

This is one of the edgiest novels I have ever read. It's a teenage edgelord's wet dream.

Every single dialogue, the main character will force the words "I'm tr*sh" in it. Usually in other novels, we learn through various other characters or actions that yea this guy is tr*sh, but here? The author just shoves it in our face, he just tells and tells and tells without much showing it.

To me, it seems like the author doesn't know how to introduce a character's settings to the audience. We just know too... more>> much too early about the MC. It doesn't keep you wanting to know more about the MC, instead it leaves you wanting to skip parts about the MC's inner thinking because it is all the same thing repeated again and again.

This novel probably will not get any better without some serious improvements in the writing <<less

Story seems interesting but MC really irritate me with his constant 'tr*sh prince' dialogue. We get it already. You have no ambition. Don't need to say it every few sentence like it's a prayer. Is almost like he is a ret*rd that has to keep saying it. He keep telling others that he doesn't mind what they think of him or how much they badmouth him. Just shut up already. If you really don't care what others think then stop saying it so obvious like you are begging for some... more>> pity.

Plus this MC is contradicting himself constantly with every action he took. First he say he don't care then suddenly he seems to care. Make up your damn mind already. <<less

It's a good story, but.....

Like everyone said, MC is the edgiest teen ever. The author literally can't go a full chapter without telling us MC is suffering. It's just "woe be me" every single arc. Would be a way better story if the author actually put some effort into describing anything other than re-emphasizing just how tr*shy the MC acts, how unfortunate MC is, and how he hates the sword so much. A rare case in which MC would be a lot cooler if we didn't know every single angsty... more>> thought that was going through his head. <<less

The plot's interesting, but the story is unbearably self-pitying, angsty, and melodramatic. Can't force myself to keep reading it.

This could have been a good story. But the writing is bad. Every chapter is a reminder of the MC's past. But we get it already, it has already been established in the prologue, the first chapter of the first volume, heck the entire first volume. If we cut out all the reminders of the past, we can have a much condensed and less cringy story.

The underlying story is somewhat interesting but the author needs to grow up a little.

This novel has a legendary level of suicidal angst. I mean every chapter is dripping with the MC's self loathing, over and over and over again. But unfortunately, the sentiment is one dimensional. It has zero subtlety or depth beyond what the first few chapters had established, but continues to consume 70% of the word count in almost every chapter. It quickly becomes repetitive and overbearing. I guarantee there's nothing out there right now that can... more>> reach this MC's level of melancholy, even in modern anime. But at some point, the author needs to get on with whatever actual plot he's trying to get to. I'm afraid by then, I will have lost all interest in reading. <<less

Wtf this is good. It's pretty deep even if the MC is annoying. It got me curious about the backstory/past. The past life is interesting and shrouded in mystery, especially his mentor who's apparently the only one who could kill him. MC was apparently weak and there were others who were strong that protected him. I'm thinking he only became the strongest because everyone else died.

Edgy or not, what I see is a depressed broken man who literally killed himself. The only fault about the MC was his humane heart... more>> which is a "weakness" especially in the previous world where only the strong survived. His mental state is still very unstable though. Still, at least he's not naive and got things done, thanks to his experiences. <<less

just give it a try. It is worthy of your time. The author really knows how to create a proper MC with past and present. He knows how to create a proper character with the mindset that he was created with. This world is created properly and the story progress properly and even the side characters have personality unlike most novel being some random for the MC to go on along the storyline

Waiting for his meeting with the hero to really give a proper rating. But I gotta say, it's the first one in a while that I have high expectations of. The pacing might seem slow for some people but I don't mind it. The description is misleading (or I have trouble reading), the scene of despair has no impact on him picking up the sword again

Edit: This novel is quite something else.

The world building is interesting. Battle mostly revolved around "Heroes", extremely powerful existences that can literally kill armies by... more>> themselves. So far it seem like most of them are drunk with power and act just like barbaric mercenaries. I highly doubt there will be any genius display of strategy but more of the intense 1 v 1 scenario. Which is fine for me but some might not like it. Come to the core of this novel, the protagonist. This guy, from what I've read, represent the feel of the novel. He's an edgy, emo protagonist. But not like the all the other isekai, revenge, emo, my life is bad, I'll kill everyone emo cause they hit my knee once. He has quite a clear reason for how he act and why he act that way.

Spoiler

He wants to die while smiling. Quite comical but the story does a good job explaining it.

[collapse]

His mind and value is twisted, as it should be given his past and circumstances. But not to an inhuman degree like many other that lead them to forgot about common sense. He is still human, albeit a bit insane. Is he relatable? Not really, but you can see and understand his action. Is he a walking contradiction and a hypocrite? Maybe? But who doesn't, it's quite humanlike to believe in something then does something opposite to it cause you have feelings. Is there romance in this novel? It's hinted but not explored.

Normally I hate multiple POV cause a lot of authors just use it to retold stories you already read. But this novel actually did it correctly for once and give you interesting view on our protagonist. Right now the side characters are limited to name, profession and thoughts about the protagonist but the potential is there. I just hope that the author pay attention to the big hole that is "too many side characters you don't care about" when writing. Especially since this novel has quite a slow pacing, meaning that for a lot of the novel, it will be about the side character (and their interactions with the protagonist). About the actual plot of the novel. There is none currently. There is no foreseeable ending for the novel except the protagonist wishes. It would not be false to put this novel under slice of life. And that is not a bad thing, the protagonist and the way the author tell his story is interesting enough for me not to mind it. <<less

it's a decent read, prolly better than the other isekai tr*sh novels out there when it comes to character and plot, my only really problem is the cringe annoying self proclamation as tr*shy prince of the MC, I can't understand the mc's logic and motivation. It seems like the author is trying to be deep but it sound superficial and chuuni as I read.

Honestly it's a great story about a reincarnated man regaining his humanity. Definitely one of the best "underestimated protagonist" stories I've read, as the MC has a genuine reason (past trauma) not to use his strength. The writing itself is quite smooth and all his interactions with various side characters are also enjoyable to read, there's no real romance as of yet and no nonsense about the MC building an unwanted harem, which is always a good thing.

So far so cool. MC is totally bonkers but his craziness is... logical? I mean, readers can understand how and why he is like this. In previous life he went too far in the path of sword. He laughs as crazy when he kills, but in the end, it's just an act that he learned to cover his weakness and then it's just became a very unsettling habit. MC basically Wuxia Sword Emperor in Fantasy world. This world totally not ready for him, but... imagine if somebody like Chu Yang... more>> was summoned as Sword Hero in Rise of the Shied Hero, it feels both right and wrong at the same time, in result giving somethat exotic feel.

Despite being japanese light novel it's not very light with how thousands of humans already died. If not his shenanigans with elf maid, I will say that it's feels more like good chinese novel than japanese one.

Also, there is "Lazy Swordsmaster" in "recomendation" list, but MC here isn't such an unresponsible ass, no he just have different value set. More akin to tr*sh of Counts family, althought I don't think there is going to be as much lying to himself. With a bit of Chu Yang from Transcending the Nine Heavens, or whatever is the name of protagonist from Human Emperor.

It's a bit too early for final judgement, but so far I have a high expectation for this story. <<less

On the sixth chapter I am already disappointed and will stop reading.

Why?

Spoiler

From chapter 1-5 he was explaining how holding a sword is the epitome of destruction and death. He wants a peaceful life or a death that he can agree with. After taking his oath with the dying knight he decides to take up his sword. I'm all good with that. It makes sense plot wise. HOWEVER, afterwards is what made me want to quit instantly. Instead of using the sword to fight and protect the dying kingdom from an invasion... he decides to show off his power to a 100 year old maid. Seriously. He even says it himself when he said "I need to show you, so that I dont need to be protected anymore". or something along those lines. Your conviction is so weak... The author spent 5 chapters saying how strong his conviction is and 1 sentence just broke it. Like seriously, how bad of a writer can you be?

This story is not about edgelord or what not...

This is quite a simple straightforward backstory where he was a very strong but also very weak hearted... The author tries to immerse you into the shoes of the MC where his circumstances leads to his choices...

And this series tries to tell you the happenings around him and how he responds to it given his circumstances...

I don't know how the others can't handle this type of story... And calls it edgelord... But its its a story where you have to remember MC's... more>> circumstances and understand why he does certain things... This is why the author emphasize his past with flashbacks all the time at first and now its a bit more manageable... Both the author and editor did a great job for this series.

I can understand why this got a light novel series so quickly. Its interesting. Thanks for translating the series. <<less

Edgy... so damn edgy... Imagine you watching Steins; Gate the first time and you see that "I am mad scientist!" scene and instead of people just awkwardly reacting to Kyouma. They get up with tears in their eyes and start clapping. They ask him for his dissertation, on string theory and he gets up on stage yelling. "I am mad scientist!". People just start gushing yelling, "Of course!" or "Why did I not think of that?" Now you with common sense are wondering "Wtf?" right?
If you can fathom an... more>> iota of that you know what it means to read this story. This story is that cringe-worthy. The Main character is always talking to himself more than other people! "Blah Blah Blah happened so long ago I will never forget it". You have an author who just feeds this sh*t too. For example action will have an Antagonist; "Why! do you look so sad? in the middle of your monologue? within the middle of our fight to the death? within the middle of this hostage situation".
Edgy! This thing is so cringe-worthy. The true masterpiece is that it is hard to notice. When you are reading it. You will just be thinking that it has a lot of flashbacks.
This thing is a story made to trick those with the inability to step back and take a hard look at what they are reading. You could probably get away with thinking it is normal if you are binge reading. When you read on a weekly basis though, and come back to the story refreshed. It is not hard to spot the absurdity of it all.
The one true word of connotation for story is in the title already. <<less

I was initially hesitant to agree with the other reviewers on it being edgy because of the first chapter's quality, but it quickly becomes apparent that it's true by Chapter 4. The recurring message is, "The 'tr*sh Prince' has a tragic backstory that twisted his world-view and mindset, " but it struggles to deliver it in an evocative way. Whenever it's brought up, it doesn't offer any insight as to why the protagonist believes so, making him feel more petulant than tragic. It's like the contrast between asking a veteran... more>> soldier and a teenager for their views on war: the experienced veteran's perspective would be more understandable given his first-hand experience, while the teen has none of that, so his words don't connect or have depth. <<less

The other reviews ring true. This is a really good read and the flow of the story is so smooth that it would make you beg for more. I really want to know what's next and I'm excited to know what the MC would do after.

Sadly, not much chapter is available for reading so I will patiently wait until the next chapters have piled up for me to continue reading.

It's a story that you can say as "worth the wait" (atleast based on the current chapters, that's what I can... more>> say). <<less

ok so before I make a review and you read it, you should know that I probably have bad taste in novels

ok so I think that this novel is pretty interesting the writing in my opinion is pretty decent and the plot is pretty interesting, if you can get over the edginess, the fights are pretty good and the other scenes are pretty good as well.

tl:dr I think this novel is pretty good and it has too many bad reviews

Typical OP main character. I don't like how the MC stated that he has a weak heart, he tied down with his past life soo many times. I mean we got it already. Then, he always thought about his past life in the middle of his act. Somehow it made me irritated. I always skip skip skip his previous life when it begun in the middle of things so that the feel that already buid up didn't crumbled apart.
