Yes, it does have some of it. Mostly at the first half of the book. And thats the reason some reviewers dislike the book. Because after that... the story really took off. Yes, the story really changed in tune midpoint. But precisely because of the good, warm and happy parts of the first half that the reader could really, really, care for every single one of the characters. This is a long book. Its a saga, really. Its like harry potter. Except better. But like harry potter, it started lighthearted. The whole thing takes a more serious tone in the middle. The strength of the first part meant that when I reached the second half, I wanted all of them to survive. I wanted all of them to reach the good ending. And all of it is because the first half was so well crafted. I won't lie - it took some time. Once the serious part started, it was almost too much. I put the book down for a while. Weeks. But at the same time I could not helped wanting to know what is going to happen. But it was a struggle. But really. why should heroes trying to prevent the end of the world be a light topic? What made it an even harder read is because this book is ultimately about human connection. The misunderstandings we have with our friends, our family, or enemies and strangers and everyone. And knowing that things happen for a reason, and sometimes those reasons are s*upid reasons, we regret. This book is filled with monologue and discourse of regret. Of logical characters making logical choices knowing that they are the right choices that will put them in the path of regret. It shows the kind of decision making world leaders have to face, when they are faced with the option to do the right thing that could affect a lot of people... negatively. Honestly, it that paragraph just now is too much for you to read - then this book may not be for you. Because the book has sooooo much more exposition on the topic. Honestly, its not an easy reading, that second half. But its so good. I have liked funny books, light hearted books, harem books, and while this is all of that at times, but I also think that it is at the same level as Dune, the book. Although Dune is about betrayal and conspiracies, while this one is about Conspiracies and Regret. Its a very very clever book. While I am reading it, I wonder if the author used up all of his ideas in one book. It covered religion, politics, economy, empire building, human relationship, love and hate, and ultimately, hope - the driving force to overcome regret. The hope that it will end well. That it will have a good ending. That it was all worth it. It was worth it. One of the best book I've ever read. I hope you will find it as entertaining, despairing and hope inducing as I did.

- The MC starts as a normal person and he's not an OP character from the start and even during the first part of the story you can see him doing his best in training so that is able to gain strengh
Now the problems and what I disliked (SPOILER AHEAD:The adventure in the Dark Lands for example. There wasn't any kind of pathos there. They find out bandits have occupied a city. They killed them without a fight and then return to the start city and say that the bandits surely had an accomplice. Who could it be if not the only person who gave them problem a while before? After that only zombies and then a pretty decent boss. Yeah, he was strong but how could you feel any pressure when you have a fricking vampire that could solve the situation with her magic if she really wanted to? I understand the mental burden that those guys had to feel because of what happened but there was a lot more that the author could have done. He could have made this arc a lot more spicy in so much ways but he preferred to play safe.
The author gave him a part in the second half of the story just to make you feel like he'll become some kind of great force. No, once an idiot, always an idiot. Evolution of the character doesn't exist. You just think it exists. He was needed just for the ending.
I didn't like that those two betrayed him, but I understood why they did. In that kind of world, in that kind of setting, with all the pressure and the scars they had, they losed their temper for a moment. If they were in their right state of mind they wouldn't have taken that choice. They would have confront him and made him spill the truth. But they weren't. They were weak and they acted liked weak. People make mistakes and they made one so great that they'll never forgive themselves for it. I didn't like it and I too thought that Ellen making that choice was a bit too strange, but I can understand.
People doesn't always make the right choice and this was a proof for that.
