Beatty, a weak squirrel shapeshifter who was born into a lion family.

Because of that, I lived my life being abused at my aunt’s house in the Capital.

When I told my only friend and fiancé, the Second Prince, that I would leave to achieve my dream,

‘Ritter, you bastard…!’

I died on his fangs.

I opened my eyes again to my childhood, the time before I got myself involved with the Second Prince.

At times like this, what do you need? Speed.

I immediately withdrew my body only and ran away to the territory of my biological father, the Lion Duke.

Though I won’t be welcomed, if I possess this one great secret that will only be discovered in the future, I won’t get kicked ou—

“Welcome, Young Miss!”

“OMG! When did you grow up like this…?”

“Young Miss is walking with those two cute feet!”

… Huh? Why am I welcomed like this?

No way, is that my statue?

I- uhm, I don't know how to feel about this so far. Like I love the premise but some parts just rub me the wrong way. Let me just elaborate...

What can I say, the misunderstandings are too aggravating! The squirrel girl thinks her father doesn't like her because he won't let her stay in her dad's duchy, but her dad has a good reason of wanting to send her to the capital. But the thing is, she's treated horribly in the capital by her aunt, to the extent... more>> that it's literally abuse. When she arrives in the duchy she's obviously malnourished, confused, insecure and uncomfortable with adults, which are glaring signs that she's being mistreated?! So why is nobody saying or doing anything about it?! Instead they're letting this cute little girl struggle and come up with 'proposals' to prove her worth. Also, she's obviously very intelligent but they still talk down to her. Like come on, have some respect for the squirrel genius.

The dad is an absolute tsundere, like he literally can't express how much he loves her. But that's also very annoying because everything he says gets taken in the wrong way by squirrel girl. And I find his intelligence a bit questionable... your daughter ran away from the capital, malnourished and scared af. She flinches when you raise your hand at her, and you still. Want. To. Send. Her. Back. Are you not suspicious at all? Come on lion dude, despite being a war hero or whatever you lack observational skills...

The overall tone of the beginning was very sad, and I felt super bad for squirrel girl and what she went through. So I was eagerly waiting for some form of retribution, but there's literally nothing in the first 30 chapters like she only gets to meet her dad now. Instead, it was just fluff, but unsatisfactory fluff, because squirrel girl did not get justice!

Perhaps the only saving grace so far is squirrel girls brother who is very siscon and nice to her, and the translator, who's doing a wonderful job. Apart from that however, I've just been waiting for divine punishment for the evil dudes. I did enjoy reading it though, and I have a feeling it'll get better, but until then...

Edit: It did get better! Thank you to the translator for a wonderful experience! Justice is coming for the aunt and her cronies :)) <<less

I'm enjoying this. A lot. Here's why-

firstly, I like the relationship between her and her brother. It's realistic. Arguing and teasing each other, annoying the hell out of you but secretly caring about the other too. This is how it actually is IRL, but somehow it's very rare in novels.

secondly, how the dad cares in his own way. I mean yes, he could do better but he isn't really that cold. Beatty sees that contrast too, although she ignores it and misinterprets it.

someone in the comments mentioned how could the... more>> dad and bro not realise she's abused when she flinches so much. The answer to that is,
Spoiler

we've been told they are battle-warriors, known and feared as war maniacs, all the people they ever see cower in fear in front of them, do you really think, their weak daughter flinching and cowering would stand out? They didn't even see her for 5 years, so they can even do the 'she should be used to us by now' factor. Daddy even asked his aide whether his outer appearance was scary and the answer was yes.

[collapse]

Daddy mentioned the reasons he sent her there, which are better than the "I had a reason" reasons in most manhwas.
Spoiler

her weak body couldn't bear the cold of the north and literally nearly died. Daddy sent Beatty and mommy both to the capital. Mommy died there, daddy couldn't even see her. He wanted to go there but he has been at war for 5 years. Instead, he left her with her maternal aunt. Because she was the younger sister of his wife, he trusted her to take good care of his child.

TLDR, Beatty is weak, and can't handle the north's weather. Also, daddy wants his baby far from the dangers of war because the duchy is often at the forefront of the war.

[collapse]
I seriously don't understand why you guys oppose this, it's quite understandable, isn't it?

thirdly? Fourthly? I lost count- I loved how as soon as she returned,
Spoiler

she slapped the FK out of that ritter bastard. Like she broke his fang lol. Girl power moment

and then she ran away. Smart choice. Instead of being like other fls where she sits and waits for an opportunity, Beatty sprinted asap. She got the freedom she oh so desired (tho momentarily), travelled, and reached her family.

[collapse]

She is so cute. If you're about to mention "she's grown at mind but acts like a kid"- Excuse Moi mademoiselle.
Spoiler

she repeatedly said, "a world limited to her room and ritter" or something between that. Basically, she emphasized often how for eighteen years, the only world she saw was through books, even those that she secretly accidentally found. She never had any exposure, and you mature/grow by being in the world. Despite that after returning, her young tendencies came out of course, but she also acted maturely and thought bigger. Keep in mind this was her first time, and she often lost confidence in herself, tho I'm glad that as "she is born with the spirit of a warrior" she didn't fall apart too much.

[collapse]

As for, "the family should have known", HOW???
Spoiler

they sent her to her maternal aunt. Her 'family'. They got reports every month. Sent gifts and letters regularly. Saw her portraits every month. Do you really think they would expect that she's mistreated?

Although Beatty never received those gifts, letters and love; the daddy has no way of knowing.

Atel, who saw Beatty before thought she was a commoner. From her lifestyle and her words, he thought, she at most was a maids daughter. It was only after he really realises that she's the dukedom's princess that he looks into her. Only because he saw her before.

[collapse]

As for the "she never told them anything, remains silent, should tell them" BRUH listen to yourself???? You're admitting she's been abused and mistreated, do you really think she can be upfront about it???
Spoiler

she was constantly brainwashed since little, made into thinking her dad hates her. She doesn't deserve it, she's a disgrace, an insignificant half.

Even if she realises it's all lies, the effects don't just poof and go away. Even when she gets the feeling of maybe, the effects come back and she changes the meaning and interpretation according to what's been fed to her mind. And FYI she didn't go there to 'expose her aunt' the only reason she decided to go to the family who supposedly hates her and considers her a shame is because that's the only place that can protect her for now.

I forgot what it was called but the very special and imp thing to shapeshifter is currently in obvious eyes. She could be auctioned or sold as s*aves or kidnapped and robbed of her stone and killed. The only two "safe places" for a shapeshifter are her actual family and the imperial palace. The latter being the home of ritter, someone she just punches and is escaping, and the first one being the misinterpreted hate-me family.

she just needs to stay there for 10 years then she'll escape. That's her plan because then she can hide her "power stone" thing. She never intended on remaining there and asking for their love and attention. That is also why she exchanges her knowledge for a chance to stay, making proposals and stuff.

[collapse]

I do agree they could use some communication, but it's going perfectly right now. And I believe a conversation is obviously approaching them, definitely gonna abe in the soon future.

last but not least, don't say she was neglected by her father.
Spoiler

yea, she wasn't named. She only got her name at the age of ten. (Before regression) but that because

  1. north people care a lot about the name, believing that wrong names could affect the child's life.
  2. daddy was spending time and effort looking for the best, most precious names. He indeed took too long but that shows how much he cared.
  3. he wracked his brains during all his free time, for a name relating to healthy and happiness because he wants his weak daughter to have a good life.
  4. he had been thinking of the name "beatty" for years. It meant blessing. But he was just worried and not sure if it would suit her.
[collapse]

All in all, I simply can not understand the reasoning of people, the things you all are pointing out, y'all should just read fairy tales for kids then. The author is following a realistic approach and just the perfect pacing.

I'm not saying I oppose you have different tastes, it might not be to your liking, I don't care. If you don't like it, don't read it, but don't just give those lame, irrelevant and s*upid reasons. Offence intended.

basically, it's a great read. Highly recommended. <<less

Main Girl suffers abuse and betrayal. Goes back in time acting like she'll be headstrong and change things. Goes home with the intention to reveal what she was going through and how to stop the current war. Proceeds to say nothing. Even when almost being forced back she can't muster the courage to say anything. Could probably cut the chapters from 22 to 4. Literally nothing happens in most of them. Thats ok with Fluff stories but this one makes it seem like it'll stretch one small encounter to 3... more>> chapters of nothing. Good time waster if you're bored I guess but don't get your hopes up. <<less

!Caution, this review contains spoilers!

Certain Reviews

saw people saying Beatty isn't talking about her abuse but hear me out, I don't even think she's aware that she is facing abuse. If you read closely you'll notice her pov was rather odd. Before her aunt laughed at her death, she had no clues whatsoever about how her aunt was mistreating her. Up to a certain degree, she knows that she is getting mistreated and abused but she doesn't think it's something big or abnormal. In chapter 55, she says how it's... more>> normal to talk to a servant formally. She was normalized with said abuse and thinks it's completely fine and normal though she does say she doesn't like it.

I will admit her justice came way late but in all honestly, I lived for the fluff. At least for me, it was incredibly entertaining.

The Father

Her father didn't abandon her I'd like this to be as clear as possible. It was more than obvious he was rather terrified with the thought of Beatty getting extremely sick. He also had constant reports from the aunt which he chose to trust since his wife a.k.a the aunt's sister seemed to trust her but I still doubt that to be honest. I think it is more than obvious the last letter his wife sent about taking care of the aunt was either forged or forced. He later regrets it in chapter 54 though I was still mad at him for not taking precautions by using different sources of information instead of blindly following the aunt's report on Beatty. I will still admit he was idiotic for not noticing the signs such as when he raised his hand Beatty flinched but then again, I guess he rounded up the reason as he is intimidating and most children are afraid of him. Maybe that was the usual reaction a child near him would have...? Beatty is also thought to have an overly weak complexion than lions. So they also might think that that was a normal reaction for a squirrel. I don't know, I can make speculations all day. The more you think about it, the more things you notice so why not rack up our brains and notice elements and fill up the so-called 'plot holes'? If you speculate about it, there will be no plot holes

I will admit, it was infact his fault for not regularly checking on her but do remember, he was constantly at battle. I still dislike him for believing the aunt unconditionally even though he also was suspicious of her. Its just moronic.

Cons

Too slow. Its just too much. It drags everything out too much.

Misunderstandings based on s*upid topics that couldve easily been avoided. Its not, like she is his first child but I guess her brother wasnt as weak as her

Lack of worldy explanation. What type if world was she in? What causes the birth of whatever she was? Why is there so little mention of the mother? Was the mother a squirrel? Why did Ritter and the empress crave power? Whats with the power squirrel constellation? Why is she trusting it so much?

I feel at least half if this should be explained after 57 chapters, nearing to 60.

------

I'm also completely pleased with Athel's character. It's so pleasing that he took action when he noticed something was wrong with Beatty

In all honestly, I am loving the novel and I can't wait for it to update more! It's rather pleasing to me. I haven't touched the manhwa yet but to be honest I'm so engrossed in the novel that until I know what's happening next, I don't think I can read the manhwa. I do hope it updates soon but in most cases, the author gets caught up in the work of the manhwa that they take a hiatus on the novel. But please!! I need to know what will happen next!!!

Do I Recommend It?

If all that sounds right up your alley then yes! As I said before, I loved most of it! I don't read a lot of fluff but out of all the ones I do read, I await the update of this one more. Very well written. There aren't any major plot holes. Nonetheless, the less you might spot some, at least I know I didn't spot any. The characters are just lovely. Athel, he's just amazing. The father, who made some mistakes I live for him calling Beatty 'baby'. The older brother is just a chef's kiss! And calling Beatty tail's fur brings forth the idea that he is still also a child. It's so well written!! I would personally recommend it greatly but it all lies on your taste and your choice. If you don't like it, that's completely fine! You should find what you like and not let other's people thoughts tangle up with yours and force you to like it. It's all in your hands whether you like it or not. <<less

Novel not recommended to read. Manwha recommended to skim.

MC is a suffering, abused, reclusive little girl harmed by her evil aunt and a scumbag prince. She magically and spontaneously is sent back to the past and rushes over to her father's area, escaping her current situation. There, she quivers in fear, dealing with a vastly different environment. The rest of the novel is her dealing with her father and brother, and how she grows up. And spoilers: it does not go particularly well.

Issues:

Severe lack of fluff. There's no real heartwarming... more>> doting or reassuring comfort being offered to the MC. There's endless dragged out filler misunderstandings. As a typical scumbag parent, Mc's father never explains everything he's thinking bluntly or reassures her that she can stay with her family (as literally any normal parent should). MC escapes Ritter which should lead to her dire consequences but this is glossed over.

A cardboard world: There's minor characters sprinkled here and there, but the world is heavily empty. There's no really interesting hook or surprising scenery. There are no real consequences to Mc's actions other than her suffering some mental trauma here and there.

Slow Pacing: There's really not much happening in the story. After 55 chapters, there's not much explanation of where all of the childcare support was reappropriated by the evil aunt and MC still doesn't feel connected to her family. The story might lead there soon, but it's still left up in the air.

So why read this novel? The only reason would be for hope of more cute MC moments, the downfall of the villainous aunt, and perhaps resolution of MC father's stay in the north. Which, of course, all of these parts will be dragged out and chock full of misunderstandings.

-700Hextillion/10. Certainly not the gold standard of parenting novels and not the cutest child MC. Nor is there any deep emotional growth or inspiring lesson. The characters aren't deeply interesting and there doesn't seem to be anything it does better than your generic child protagonist novel. Even the shapeshifter aspect is downplayed except for snacks and small jokes. A mediocre and weak story.

P.S.

Yumigination's review is offensive tr*sh because they simply lack the intelligence to draw conclusions on their own statements:

Paraphrased: "The Mc's scumbag father and brother clearly do not know MC has been abused. The father had reasons to send MC away to live with her abusive aunt. The MC and Father could use some communication, but it's going PERFECTLY right now. Don't say she was neglected by her father. All he did was think about her name (without giving her one) and sometimes reading letters about her."

Which clearly admits that this person understands that the Father and brother did not care enough about the MC to ever visit her even once in her entire life. Not only that, but the Mc's father is the one to send her to live with the abusive aunt? That is very clearly his fault for not checking regularly on the MC or even ensuring that the aunt would treat the MC well. There's no argument to be had that the Mc's real family couldn't visit even once. Perhaps Yumi thinks we should praise the father's composure in abandoning his child. Supposedly the conversation is perfect, despite the MC not clearly understanding anything said by the father and still being afraid for the entire first 50 chapters, all while being mocked for escaping her abusive situation? Did it never occur that her running away was a strange situation? Even if both Mc's father and brother are battle maniacs, doesn't that mean they would rather fight than invest time in the Mc? Is five years a short time? MC is clearly not a priority.

Followed by the condescending and moronic:

"Just read fairy tales for kids then. The author is following a realistic approach and just the PERFECT pacing. I don't care. If you don't like it, don't read it, but don't just give those lame, irrelevant and s*upid reasons. Offence intended."

Well there's something clear - Yumi considers this novel perfection and the best story ever which is super realistic with the shape changing people and endless battles in the north. The random nobles and cannon fodder villains are also oh so realistic? The fact that MC could travel all the way to her father's location with no harm and know exactly where to go? There's tons of other plot armored ridiculous events, not even including how smart and special MC is supposed to be. Her added knowledge and even how she was different from the start aren't realistic or grounded one bit. Fairy tales are meanwhile much better for the people who can't appreciate this masterpiece, which I suppose is a diss on fairy tale enthusiasts? What a garbage message. <<less

you do not know how much anger I felt while reading this. Call me petty but I cannot like either the father and/or the brother. I just can’t. And I won’t like them until they know what the FL went through. The fluff so far is just unsatisfactory. It makes it seem like all the love she’s getting is just fake. I know they really love her and it’s real. Yet it seems so fake. I think the author is trying to make the readers like the brother, father, and... more>> workers. But it’s just not working. At least not for me.

It doesn’t make sense to me that she’s not feeling that angry or resentful towards the workers and her brother and father. She went through 18 years of abuse. Her ‘friend’ of ten years turned out to be fake and killed her. I thought she would confront them about what she thought as them ‘abandoning’ her.

it makes me more upset that the father did not check up on her at all in those 18 years. You’d expect he would at least go visit her. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. And how does he not know what she went through. Isn’t he supposed to be the most powerful, almighty duke or something? Surely he would at least be informed of just what was happening inside that aunts house. It’s just misunderstandings on top of misunderstandings.

Also. They kept calling her a “rebellious runaway”. That annoyed me so much. You all don’t understand. I was clenching my blanket. Like she just escaped from an abuser. Rebellious my a**. And there was so many clues that she was not being treated right. One being when the brother showed FL her room. And she specifically said that she didn’t mind if the room was less luxurious and out of sight. HOW DID HE NOT PICK UP ON THAT CLUE!!???? Maybe he did later on but I’m dropping this before I reach that point. I can’t stand this anymore. <<less

This novel is slow af. Like fr I want them (Beatty and the Dubbleds) to solve their misunderstanding quickly, punish the bad people, talk about her past life etc. The fluff is okay. It's really irrating me when she and her father don't say the truth from the heart and the misunderstanding keeps getting handful. The FL is honestly cute and it's hurt when she'd been betrayed by her one and only friend, don't have her parents with her, been abused verbally and neglected by everyone in the capital.

I love this story so much. I always reading fantasy novels with a father/daughter relationship. The sibling relationships are an extra bonus. The FL being a squirrel and the family members being huge lions adds so much to the story. I am constantly checking to see the latest updates. Thank you guys so so much for translating this. A 5 out of 5 is not enough for me to express how amazing this story and you guy’s transitions are. If I have to give it a true rating, I would... more>> say a 6 out of 5. :) Can wait to see more of the father and brother. Please keep up the hard work. :D <<less

Though the current chapters are only up to chapter 10, I can tell that this novel would be one of my favourite fluff novels. ❤❤ There's not much going on so far about Beatty's relationship with her dad, everyone in the mansion is so cute too (except that Count dude I don't like him) and I'm glad that her brother is gradually turning into a siscon it's sooooo cuteeeee!! I wish to see more of the fluff in the future and may the scums in this story all broke their teeth... more>> when they eat their food and accidentally swallowed the teeth down.

Thank you to the translator too for translating this novel I've been waiting for it ever since I saw the novel cover posted by the author in twitter. The translations are great and easy to understand thank you so much once again to the translator 🥰🥰 <<less

I read the manhwa at first and then come here. I really really don't like the father and brother. They abandoned her in the capital. Instead of investigating how's her life living with her aunt, they questioned why she come to the duchy. The man who's in charge of the duchy I don't like him at all. In the latest chapter of Manhwa. He questioned MC and saying things like she ran away from home and MC is giving Duke a trouble. I f*cking hate him! The story is not... more>> even finish yet and I hate all the characters except for MC. The letters MC send is probably thrown away by him in the past life that's why MC say she never got a reply from her Father.

The art is really good but I can't the characters!!! I don't feel like the author will give any satisfactory reason for the Dukedom in the past life.

THEY ABANDONED HER.

I will not bother to read any further. <<less

Great so far - really want more tbh, I'm looking forward to her recovery but I dare say it will be unrealistic because most readers would think once she knows the truth it should all be peachy - unfortunately old habits and feelings die hard so realistic would be a slow progressive recovery that would frustrate readers (i don't mind so much as I can fill in the blanks myself, plus I prefer happy stories to depressing ones).

If you think how she (MC) is acting is s*upid or unrealistic -... more>> you should read this as getting inside the mind of someone who has been abused like this - her reactions and mindset are really realistic for the internal mentality of some abused as she has been.
So people are thinking that she could say anything any time but her actions and words make sense in reality...
She was gaslit for years in to thinking she was worthless, she died without knowing what the reason was, she was killed by the only friend she had and trusted, she believed her aunt was her only remaining family who wanted her and had no knowledge of anything better... She had no one to counter any of the treatment in her original 15 years (after her mum passed) - so she was essentially brainwashed... If you've been on the receiving end of such manipulations - it makes sense the way she acts. Her lack of interactions with people in her first life also make her 'unsocialised' to the point where she hasn't learnt what 'normal' people and families act like, so her incorrect assumptions and not asking for clarification (due to fear) is 100% a natural reaction/way to be.

It took me 2 years to sort out truths and falsehoods - my mental state was a complete mess (with supportive people around me - that I knew were supportive), that was just for 6 years of gaslighting and manipulation as a late teen / adult.
I can totally relate to this characters mentality and fully understand why she acts/reacts as she does. <<less

I actually really agree with @Doodoo, I have very mixed feelings on this. At parts its super sweet and I'm smiling until my cheeks hurt. At other parts I'm cursing at the MC and her father for being so f*cking oblivious.

Like, if the father just opened his eyes for a bit he would be able to tell that she's been abused, she flinches every time her aunt comes near her and the only tie she takes the initiative to meet him is when she's trying to convince him to let... more>> her stay. Unfortanetely, all he can think about is how she almost died as an infant and how she's related to her aunt so of course she's going to be treated well. I just don't like it.

But also. It's really cute. So 3 stars it is and I'll come back once more chapters are stockpiled to judge it again. <<less

I'm enjoying this a lot. The main character does seem a bit dumber than expected, but some authors believe that a young body will place limitations on the regressor's intellect, which might be the reasoning here. Personally, even if that was really true, I think it's best to only place physical limits, not intellectual ones. In any case, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of this fluffy story at all.

So much fluff that gives cavities. It's extremely cheesy. My biggest criticism is how idiotic the MC looks like, I don't see any trace of a teenage girl's mind, so far she's a girl with a child's mind, not a more mature mind who has returned to a younger body. As much as you cannot expect maturity from a teenage girl, you don't even notice that here.

'm giving the father the benefit of the doubt as to why he left his daughter, like can't he find another guardian or something just within their territory?

And I do hope that jerk prince is not the ML coz he's crazy. Right now I'm expecting for more fluffy moments with the brother.

Premature review- The story is cute, tho it seems to be dragging a bit. So far it's mainly just the MC keeping silent and being confused but I can't wait to see how the plot goes. No sight of the ML or father so far and she just met her brother so I'll be patient until something happens. I'm not the biggest fans of misunderstanding plot devices but the cover is way too cute.

This is really good, I already look forward to reading more about the father and brother and him why all those apparent misunderstandings. The MC's dream is great and I hope he achieves it but seeing how ML seems to be a prince... We just have to wait and see. Although I am not 100% sure that ML is one of the princes, everything indicates that it is him. The first prince to be exact, since the second accumulates mass desires to pull out his fangs one by one and... more>> without anesthesia. I recommend that you judge his own criteria as I tend to comment based on my tastes but, everything so far is promising. The translation is great, there is nothing that is not understood or that is even a bit confusing. In conclusion, a 10 out of 10. It goes straight to my priority list of novels that I follow. <<less

This thing is really refreshing. I see many reviews about the good and bad about the story, in my opinion it was way better than many novels. I also see many people say things about how the father was so ignorant of those minute details about the girl not wanting to go to the capital. Think about it guys if he can understand that he might as well easily point out the manager guy was a traitor with some minute details. That's not because of ignorance but that is the... more>> way he is.

A clear distinction of each character of their personalities due to the environment and stuff.

1. MC is very sensitive to others reaction because of her being treated badly. She might be sensitive to even light things but also a brave person.

2. MC's brother was a battle honed person who clearly has no emotions, atleast that's what he thinks. He would compare himself with her and tries to treat her delicately.

3. MC's father was actually not a bad person but he treats her the way he treats his son. That's also the reason he think she's weak (I guess).

Spoiler

4. The first prince. If one asks me who was the most intelligent one in the novel I would defenitely vote for this guy. Although he was a battle honed person his emotional intelligence is extremely high because he was the same as MC, in fact his life is even worse. He treats her the way the MC treats the second prince in her previous life. He is also extremely sensitive towards her. As soon as he saw MC with her brother for the first time he understands something was wrong. When MC said she was thought everyone with respect he clearly states (thinks) that the problem is serious than he thought. That proves he was already suspicious. Someone might tell that he have already seen her in capital so he found out. It might be partially correct because some high class people do something crazy for their children to mature. We also have MC's brother who went to battlefield as a child. In my opinion he suspected things when he visited the Duke house, seeing that she was mistreated by the aunt with dogs. One should know that both father and brother where there on the spot actually (well, little far) but only this guy notices she was scared because it was something normal for those battle honed freaks, especially for people who tames lions. He also interrupt MC's brother saying MC can handle her aunt at the start of the banquet.

[collapse]

It also says how he always thought she was loved by her aunt. Although she never said it was abuse she would unconsciously be sacred and intimidated.

Good novel. Each character has a unique role and fills the holes nicely.

Anyway. I think I spoke too much. Thanks for reading. <<less
