In My Second Life, I Could See My Skills, so the More I Trained, the More Peerless I Became

One day, the protagonist, who worked at a so-called “black company” doing simple tasks of typing text from early morning to late at night, died of exhaustion due to lack of sleep. He overworked himself and deprived himself of sleep. Then, he found himself back 20 years ago, when he was six years old.

A familiar house, his youthful parents, and his youthful body.

In the midst of the nostalgic scenery, he saw something that looked like a status window you see in every game.

It showed his status, level, and skills.

“I’ve got skills! What? What are ‘Muscle Strengthening’ and ‘Magic Strengthening’?”

“The more I train, the more it shows up in the numbers, it’s so fun!”

“If I keep training like this, before I know it, I’ll become too strong.”

A High School student.

The dungeons have appeared as if they were made for each other. He was also wearing armor and he appeared as the main character.

It's good, sometimes even average, and sometimes hopeless.

Personally, I love the power couple, early couple without le*d handholding theme. Big plus for this relationship.

The whole thing, based on dungeons and statistics, is also at the level, although the number of zeros is absurd to the point of comedy.

... more>> Hmmm... Overall it's addictive. But it's annoying. The translation confuses pronouns and perspectives, sometimes distorting the whole so much that you have to run the raws through the translator to understand what a given chapter is about. The further, the worse.

Not only in terms of translation, but also as a whole - the idea is brilliant, but the execution fails further. <<less

As one would usually find with travis translations, the translation quality is poor. The story is written as a somewhat coherent train of thought style with stats tables thrown in frequently. Unfortunately this is botched as neither the stats tables or narrative match, with multiple incongruities melded through ought. An example of this, is calling 6 billion on the stats table, sixty billion in the narrative. There are other cases where the translator/author clearly does not understand basic arithmetic but instead slams random numbers to make the table look good.

Whilst... more>> personally, I don't bother checking the calculations that the writer has made, if I notice that basic calculations are wrong it immediately puts a bad taste in my mouth, as I can easily tell that the writer put very little effort into writing. To then have the audacity to ask for money for your translations, is like finding a dog poo and expecting someone to buy it off you.

The novel itself is poor quality. There is no structure in the narrative. No conflict, no conflict resolution. Just a guy who gets op. That's it. The story depth is found in the botched stats table, which in case you don't know, is not where you should find the story depth. A story could be written to find some of it in numbers, however it will not be the main source.

So given my scathing review, why have I given this a 2 and not a 1?

I save my 1s for the unintelligible ramblings and the headache inducers. The bottom of the bottom that even taking a whiff of makes you puke. This one, I read 15 chapters and didn't get a headache. I was sorely disappointed, but given the translators, I was surprised I didn't get a headache. So that gives it a 2. <<less

A fun, quick, light-hearted novel that can be breezed through in an afternoon.

To give a synopsis of my experience "brain happy when big number go up"

HOWEVER, check the spoiler if you are very religious

So I'd rather not have religious people surprised near the ending and dislike the story.
Near the end he beats up God, absolutely wipes the floor with him. God, who is a girl and also suppose to be Jesus, Allah and everyone else combined. While a largely agnostic Japan may not mind this I could understand if some people disliked it and wanted to skip the novel.

Oops, I meant to put 2 stars and accidentally cl**ked 1. I like the premise of the novel - the MC is motivated, the romance is cute and develops reasonably quickly, and the powers quickly get OP but not in an obnoxious way. However, after the MC gets OP around c30, he/the author kinda just seem to lose motivation. Before, the MC was intensely focused on self-development and helping others with his powers, but after a bunch of dungeons appeared he just stops doing, well, anything really. He stops attacking... more>> dungeons despite mentioning how fun it was earlier, and he stops trying to connect with friends despite trying really hard earlier. He just disconnects, and really never recovers.

Also, the MC mentions in c47 that donating to charity is hypocritical, since why give money to others when you could quit your job, go there in person, and help them yourself. It's not like I don't follow the argument, but I also feel like the only people who actually believe such a thing are people in a relatively dark place mentally. The MC, instead of donating 6 million dollars to charity, decides to invest it in stocks. It's not a bad decision from a personal finance perspective, but I question where the author is developing this MC morally. <<less

This novel is good! It's kinda similar like that of I Got A Cheat Ability In A different world, but it's good.

Spoiler

The MC is reincarnated so as his girlfriend (previous life crush, this life girlfriend).

[collapse]

The MC is way too much op!

Spoiler

The stats are measured in 10^11 formats and so as his girlfriend.

[collapse]

He is a muscle brained idiot!

Spoiler

He does all calisthenics since his childhood until he faints and his father finds him.

[collapse]

The most hilarious thing is that the MC just one shots the dungeon bosses and triggers the unique boss everytime. He one shots that too!

Lastly, it le*d. Okay, I mean it's slightly.

Spoiler

His girlfriend wants to do naughty things when they are only at 13 years of age. (They stop with kissing though).

This story is wish fulfillment, quite refreshing if I may say

The point is:

  • Original world turn into Isekai with dungeon, magic & sword (even though MC just use his bare hand & magic cuz no weapon can withstand his power lol)
  • No Harem (im a big fan of Harem, but this time... i'll let it pass)
  • Overpower (too strong even God is no match)
  • Re Life (do what he didn't do on his past)
  • Good romance (SEGSS!!!)

It's alright if you have absolutely nothing else you can read. It reads like a skeleton sequence of events rather than a novel. The plot is forced all the way through and nothing about it ever feels natural. All in all, there are middle schoolers who can write better, or rather I wouldn't be surprised if it was some run-of-the-mill middle schooler who wrote this.

Feels like the author run out of idea near the end.

Spoiler

The author really suck at designing antagonist character. Imagine there is this God who the author stated that this god also known as Christ, Allah (and basically every other gods from many religions) is the villain and the reason they want to kill the MC us just because they hate the MC for disturbing the trial.... I mean can't the author make the development more complex?

[collapse]

Spoiler

Also the battle is not satisfying to read and kinda cringe.

Not doing a full review here. The story is amateur and light enough that it'd be hard to do that. I'll just say that there's not much to see here in terms of story, but it gets points for being complete, mostly coherent, and having a cute relationship between the two main characters. It loses the most points for having dumb characters, a dumb MC, silly plots, and for feeling like it just got lost towards the end.

The translation by Travis Translation is tr*sh though. It's very blatantly MTL and... more>> chapters range from sorta readable with minor obvious mistakes to being a completely incomprehensible tangle of word spaghetti that very obviously no human with any understanding of Japanese or English even looked at. You'd have better luck just plugging the chapters into Google Translate yourself since at least then you'd have a chance to figure out what it's trying to say rather than be force fed obviously incorrect translations by Travis Translations. They're not even consistent in their mistakes, it's that bad.

2/5 for the story itself. 0/5 for the translation since the translation actively hurts the story. <<less

This novel isn't bad per say and at first it was really fun. The MC's motivation, his self-development and the romance subplot are all quite engaging.

However the power levelling and his stats just became... dumb. They just get way too big. It feels as though the author simply wanted to artificially increase the amount of words in the chapter. By the amount of focus there is on stats I assume they are important, but I just gradually started to skip them entirely.

Spoiler

It's the 30th something chapter and they get to quadrillions or more, I stopped caring after this point

[collapse]

So although I liked this novel, because of the reasons above I will just drop it and save myself some braincells. <<less

Its going well, starts good, have a good potential but now the autor is following the steps for ruining this whit that shitty romance that he is creating, I read a lot of this type of novels with reincarnation and stuff and all the novels that reincarnated and see his beloved one from his past life or something like that too early in the novel its just no sense. The romance in writting is an extremely complex thing, its been studying it from hundres of years and putting a thing... more>> that important in a novel like its nothing just ruin it. Srry if you not understand english is my 2d language <<less
