its a great book, the beginning is like second life ranker, but after the defeat of the frost queen he gets frozen for 25 years, and after he wakes up (in the middle of a museum display of his frozen body which was funny) he learns about how the world has changed, and that he has to get more powerful to unfreeze the other 4 heroes, so far, with little information, I can only recommend the novel to new readers, but if the author continues with this quality of writing,... more>> and reaperscans keeps translating it in the same quality, this will be a great and engaging book.

Spoiler

the info dumps are actually engaging and not just a block of text which is amazing, it kept me entertained while teavmching me about how the world was and how it changed after 25 years, which is understandable

[collapse]

Spoiler

another thing about the character is that he has regressed back to his original values when he was level one, with a powerful skill but not being able to use it in its entirety, which is a breath of fresh air from what the authors usually do with a powerful MC and I love it

[collapse]

sorry about my lack of punctuation with that, but in short, great book, definitely would recommend to anyone wanting a good read (also the notes from the translator are either useful or funny bc they will crack jokes in them, or explain stuff unique to the korean language) <<less

Return of the frozen Player is surprisingly good like good good lol, the good kind where it is almost at the level of SCO Gluttony and Moonlight sculptor or those top tier SK novel from my perspective AKA pure subjective. (It is impossible to have pure objective review anyway)

MC is smart and likeable, companion and friend is quite useful. Though MC had a quite severe hero complex but it is not dragging him down. He is careful and considering his decision in taking action, and most importantly proactive searching... more>> enemies by gathering information not just passively waiting to get attacked and crying later when friend died due to surprise attack and vowing to revenge bullshit.

Though the best element of this novel is its PACING. Story progression and pacing is top tier, the best even that I've read in a while. There are many exciting things and action and after sweaty chapters the author give the reader down time or rest for the MC and readers. These down time and rest chapter is sooooo gooood, they give us nice interaction and fleshed out the character even more like treating deteriorate mental health and fatigue due to constant near death battle, like hanging out with friends, talk about the experience, had a good rest or good amount sleeping (THE MOST IMPORTANT).

It is also not constant battle after battle with the MC seemingly alive by their skin of teeth every time and always on the backfoot and disadvantages. There are times when the plan perfectly executed and gives us a good satisfying beatdown to the enemies.
Antagonist is quite good, though MC get strong but the enemies had a headstart for 27 years while MC forced sleep so he is struggling against them atleast the leader of the human killer organization, and each tower floor is different strong and transcendent of their world or planet like God Emperor of Warhammer 40k so he is not sweeping the floor with them. It is currently ongoing so 5stars, if the ending is good and authordoes not drop the ball for the ending this will stay. :) <<less

Normal KR Dungeon Novels: Start > Fast leveling > God-tier End

Frozen Player: Start> The MEAT >>>>> TBC

Unlike other dungeon novels that skip all the interesting stuff on their quests to kill God. Frozen player takes it's time to build a world, powers and characters. It reads almost like playing the Witcher, the MC will pick up a bunch of side quests and ignore some.

Spoiler

He gets notes for introductions to nobles and just never uses them (as of ch280). Instead he tries to be a defendant for Troll homicide.

It's worth your time if you care more about the journey than the destination. The manwha is very good and the raws are pretty decent. <<less

I'll give you a warning, this novel has a good premise, a cliche but still good world building, characters are great and characters development is going well, but the villains are like those Chinese cultivation novel, they're arrogant, useless, c*ckroach (hard to die but useless the story) they're just there to level the MC (well of course that's normal)

Btw, this is an incomplete novel, usually a korean webnovel don't reach 1000 unlike the chinese counterpart or Japanese, at the middle part, you will be bored to death to typical... more>> cliches scenarios.

The last chapter 530 made me really turn my view to this novel. It was a real garbage for a 2019 written novel, still no updates from author to this day. <<less

I read it just because I didn't have any other novel to read. It's boring and I never really looked forward to next chapters.

Good points:

  • Good translation quality,
  • Some twists to the story just to not be the most bland and generic story one can think of
  • MC has good values
Bad points:

  1. MC is op almost from the start. Everything he gets or buys is OP. The skills he gets from gates are op. The equipment he gets its op. The people he knows are op
  2. The story is boring and bland. Just generic story, generic opponents and goals. I never looked forward to next chapters as what I imagined will happen would most often occur in some shape or form. The surprises I got are only the bad ones when I thought "really? It can't be this s*upid or bad"
  3. Enemies are really terrible, they are s*upid, arrogant and weak. His normal opponents are no different from sacks of potatoes even when they surpass MC by 50+ lvls.
  4. Author forgets what he wrote, even if the skills MC gets are op he rarely uses them, the same goes for the weapons other than his sword.
  5. Author sometimes repeats and over explains what he just wrote a few more times in the same or next chapter just in case you didn't understand the sheer s*upidity of what he just wrote or forgot after 3 lines.
  6. MC wakes up after 25 years but he should feel and remember those times like they were just yesterday yet he acts and says as if he wasn't frozen but lived somewhere else for the 25 years (it's hard to explain but it just doesn't feel right). Obviously MC knows everything better about gates and all the fighting stuff than people who were at it for over 20 years. It feels like no progress was made by people and players other than self driving taxi and vita (improved phones).
  7. Fights are bad, either MC overpowers enemy in seconds or the fight is dragged out so he can overexplain his or opponents moves.

the story is ok? Characters are good and the MC is not that bad, should have been a 5 stars, but then it happened, the author did the thing I hate the most in every novel, MC losing all or part of his strenght for no f*cking reason, the laziest narrative solution to ever exist in every universe. Might not be that bad for others, but I got a severe case of ptsd from this sh*t happening so much during the long years i've been reading novels, nowdays I just... more>> drop it immediatly when it happens <<less

Pretty awesome. A smart MC with good values. That alone makes this an interesting read.

Normally, you find that authors with a smart protagonist tend to equate that with being a massive dick. Which is slightly depressing. Thankfully, the author doesn't give into this sad trope.

The world's pretty interesting and when "real" locations outside of the author's home country are brought up, it's neutral. Let me explain. There's not a lot of detail to them. In fact, it's clear not much research was done to ground them but what's there isn't... more>> condescending. It's neutral. What little nationalism is there feels normal. Like a subtle pride. A welcome change from the more common, and aggravating, extremist kind.

It's very good and as with all good books, the wait is painful. <<less

This novel is quite generic but also entertaining to a point.

The characters in this novel is decent, they are the generic side characters you'd see in a generic hunter/gate novel.

Everything in the novel is convenient for the MC, and the villains are all s*upid and useless.

... more>> The world building is also very generic, it's literally the same as any generic modern world hunter/gate novel.

The powers are also generic, I won't use spoilers but those powers honestly doesn't make me excited to see them being used.

The jokes are sometimes funny, but most of them are weak and not good enough to actually be one of the main motivations for reading this novel.

The MC is decent, he's a troll and is pretty fun to read at the start but gets old quickly.

In short, this novel is an inferior solo leveling. Or it can be said to be a very generic hunter/gate novel. If you've ever read any hunter/gate novels, you'll probably recognize the similarity at once, and I don't feel like reading the same thing twice. It is a simple braindead novel where you read simply for entertainment. <<less

It's entertaining but it's also exactly what you think it is. Another generic korean dungeon WN. One thing that bugs me a lot is that the MC either doesn't have any of his old titles for some reason, or we're supposed to believe that the strongest person in the world at one point never gained any titles. He lost his levels because of plot I mean because he ate some orb, sure, but why would that cause him to lose his titles? Even more annoying is that he retained the... more>> title for killing the frost queen, so by that logic he should have all of his other titles, right? Wrong. No explanation, no justification, nothing.

This review ended up being just me ranting about a plot hole but whatever, that sh*t really gets on my nerves. <<less

Pretty generic novel per my standard. The story is bland the same as other novels. It's too heavily focused on combat and ignores character development altogether. He's going solo so no character interaction either. They're also not much thinking in the head nor explanation to justify why the MC's doing it this way. The overall story progress is rapid which makes any past events unimportant and forgetable. I already forgot about the previous 2 dungeons as there is no notable consequence.

The MC is a pure arrogance incarnation, acting like he... more>> can solve everything and know it all which getting on my nerve a bit. Speaking some awesome cliche sentences at everyone to assert dominance "I'm so OP, I don't need your support/money/good weapon". The totally wrong way of getting the reader to like the character. <<less

It's pretty decent. No, scratch that a little, it's good (but not great). It could've been great, but it has some absolutely key faults that drastically ruin the score. It's a little weird though, because those things stand out drastically. Normally when you have key things that bring stories down, the rest of the story might have issues (I'm not talking about things like pet peeves, where someone reduces a score because of a personal thing TO THEM).

Anyway, those things unfortunately really ruin the story, which I'm not used to... more>> having influence a score. Either you can ignore them because they're minor, or they're major but the story wasn't that good to begin with. Also, weirdly enough (or not?) they all show up in the later half of the story.

The two main issues which really ruin the story are as follows: a c*ckroach of a 'main antagonist' known as the Heavenly Demon, and then EXTREMLY poorly written time travel mechanics.

The Heavenly Demon starts out as kinda like.... Terrorist leader? Important, and a threat. Well he never dies. Ever. He has the most deus ex machina BS survivability, and is just pulled back into the story in essentially every single arc, regardless of how little sense it makes for him to be around. And he stopped being a threat pretty early on, and just keeps randomly getting massive power-ups that make zero sense. The author makes a point of making power-ups for every single character make sense, in a logical progression. One of the best parts of the story is how little plot armor exists for anyone. Except the Heavenly Demon, he's got more plot armor than any 3 shounen series combined. He stopped being a good villain after the 2nd time, much less the 15th. And no, those numbers aren't exaggerations.

The other main problem with the series is that the author really screws up time travel. A lot. In multiple ways. It's not internally self-consistent, and there's plot holes EVERYWHERE. The first time time travel shows up, it was actually an enemy power, and it was... well, done poorly. To be frank, it was the one and only time that I felt the author used Deus Ex Machina BS to help the heroes win (which is later retconned into a 'real reason', that ends up being because of time-travel).

Unfortunately, all these problems turn the last third of the story into junk. If I had reviewed the story 2/3 through, I'd give this a very confident 5/5. It really has a ton of good aspects, from the main cast to side characters to power progression (though even at the 2/3 point the Heavenly Demon had already LONG overstayed his welcome).

If the story started out how the last third was though, I'd have dropped it in a heartbeat. The last 3rd is tr*sh. Mostly because of the aforementioned issues, but there's other problems as well. For example, it also falls into the same problem that seems to plague Korean novels in that the ending sucks. Absolutely anticlimactic final battle, followed by a 1 page time skip and epilogue (not 1 chapter, 1 page in the final chapter).

So yeah, I'm not sure if I want to recommend this, because it's ultimately supremely unsatisfying, and I feel like I just wasted the years I spent reading it daily. Terrible c*ckroach enemy that's given over-important weight, terrible mechanics that create plot holes, and a terrible ending. Oh, and no romance, which is a shame, because the author teased it a bunch throughout the story, and it never happened. <<less

arc, it had a very interesting premise), but also some boring moments.

The main character is extremely heroic, and will never turn back from a fight if it means he has to sacrifice people, even those he doesn't know. But all KR protagonists have to be cold-blooded in some way, and for this, MC it's towards anything that has to do with the fiends. While his heroism can potentially be frustrating for readers sometimes, at least he never pities his enemies.

As for the plot, the author has a habit of introducing loose ends he forgets to tie up (or only remembered to tie up hundreds of chapters later), but again, it's no deal-breaker. The main protagonist's general goal is to clear all the floors and completely bring down the fiends. The former tends to be interesting, with varied plots, and a good sense of mystery + foreboding, while the latter doesn't really help the novel in my opinion. I feel like the fiends alternate between being incomparably scheming and dangerous to being useless cannon fodder. I honestly think the novel would have been better off without them.

Overall, I think the novel is worth a read, but it's nothing ground-breaking. <<less

Title: An Engrossing Adventure!

Review:

I recently had the pleasure of reading the Korean novel "Frozen Player Returns, " and I must say, it has left me utterly captivated! From start to finish, this novel delivered an enthralling and immersive experience that kept me eagerly turning the pages.

The storyline is a stroke of genius, blending elements of gaming, fantasy, and suspense into a seamless narrative. The author's ability to craft a captivating world is truly commendable. Each scene was richly described, allowing me to envision every detail and feel as though I... more>> was a part of the story myself.

The characters in "Frozen Player Returns" are brilliantly developed and multifaceted. The protagonist's journey is incredibly compelling, as we witness their growth and transformation throughout the novel. The supporting characters also bring depth and intrigue to the story, each with their own unique motivations and backstories.

What sets this novel apart is its ability to seamlessly incorporate elements of suspense and mystery. The high-stakes challenges and thrilling action sequences kept me on the edge of my seat. The strategic gameplay elements were well-executed, and the novel offered a fresh perspective on the concept of Hero.

The pacing of the novel is spot on, balancing moments of intense action with quiet introspection. The plot twists and turns kept me guessing, and I was pleasantly surprised by the intricate web of mysteries woven throughout the story. I found myself fully invested in the outcome, unable to tear myself away until I reached the satisfying conclusion.

The prose in "Frozen Player Returns" is elegant and fluid, thanks to the remarkable translation work. The language is engaging, and the dialogue feels authentic, bringing the characters to life. The emotional depth and philosophical undertones explored in the novel added another layer of complexity that elevated the reading experience.

Overall, I cannot recommend "Frozen Player Returns" enough. It is a true masterpiece that seamlessly blends fantasy, suspense, and mystery into a captivating tale. Whether you are a fan of Korean novels or simply looking for an engrossing and thrilling read, this book is an absolute must-read. Prepare to be transported to a world where reality merges with imagination, and be prepared for a literary journey that will leave you spellbound.

Kudos to the author for crafting such a remarkable work, and to the translator for ensuring the story's brilliance shines through in every word. Five stars without hesitation! <<less

1. All characters are cute and lovable. The interludes between combats are nice, touching, and realistic, showing the warm reunion between friends.

These moments are my favorite parts in the novels, even though they faced fierce battles, they still made times to rest and have nice chats with each other. It's really cute to see that Jun-Ho prepared snacks for Frost and gave sushi coupons to Jun-Sih! I can watch their funny interactions for all days XD

2. I liked how Jun-Ho treated the residents in other floor. Most tower novels treated... more>> the people in towers like NPC or some disposable plot tools to get rare rewards. Jun-Ho treated these people as real friends.

Spoiler

One example is that after the empire knight died, even though the Jun Ho had the ability to collect souls, he didn't use it immediately because he respected the knight a lot, and hoped him would rest in peace.

[collapse]

3. Jun-Ho walked a long way to become the strongest player, and the growth rate made sense. (He worked very hard and always humbly learned things from others.)

Some review probably stopped at the early chapters, thinking the Jun-Ho is op for no reason. But Jun-Ho is actually a level-80 player (which is the top level before the second floor opened) before he got frozen, of course he had a lot of combat experience than other players. Plus, most strong players are on second floor. When facing players who were much stronger than him, he would avoid head on matches and found reasonable ways to defeat them.

The stat points and levels are not everything in this story. It just somehow quantity player's current ability, but no absolute indicators. The combination of skills, experience, etc, are more important.

Moreover,

Spoiler

The reasons why he is "lucky" and why his "keen intuition" is so op are revealed later in the part 3, making his rapid growth speed really reasonable.

[collapse]

4. No weird love tropes or forceful relationship. Romance in this kind of story often feels off as it usually falls into "MC saves the FL" trope, but it didn't happen in this story.

All players focused on their own goal and strengthened their power. Besides, Jun-Ho treated women with respect, never took advantage of them despite of his fame and popularity.

He treated Frost like his daughter even after she grew up and became a high-schooler-age girl. (He even whined after Frost grew up, finally understanding Gilbert's feeling towards Arthur XD.)

5. The development in part 3 is shocking yet reasonable with enough foreshadows beforehand.

My only complaint is that the pacing in part 3 is too soon, it would be much greater to maintain the same pace as before. But most puzzles are solved, the secret of towers is also reasonable. <<less

Normal. Engaging at times. At times somewhat boring. Extremely focused on the main character and his abilities. Lacks supporting cast, the ones who are here have too thin of a presence. Everything feels like it's structured on the "Villain of the week" cartoon schedule.

Everything is slowly paced. We don't have yet a clear picture who the bad guys are, what the big plan of the hero is and if there is something bigger out there. But for all of those we us readers know that they exist just that after 186 chapters we still don't know anything about...

The bad guys are a joke and there is no thrill in the chapters anymore.

The chapters are becoming more and more full of useless informations.
