*wistful sigh*

This novel is so enjoyable. Its like, like, a mesmerizing scenery. A breathtaking moment. A nostalgic memory.

Everything is so subtle and its the reader who must pause, take a step back, and just enjoy the moment.

... more>> To give a little more insight to the story, in addition to the synopsis, Lin Rufei, our MC, despite his ill body, goes out to gain experience whilst delivering invitations for the swordsman competition that will be held a few months/years later.

Outside of the mountain he's lived all his life, readers come to know many different endings of various cultivator families.

The many lives and fates of the rivers and lakes are ever turning and after knowing the truth of Lin Rufei, you cant help but feel a little melancholic.

Because you know this is what "he" sacrificed his life for.

Although everything isn't perfect, the reader knows that "time" is a big theme.

Oh to wait 100 years looking at the thousand miles of peach blossom trees.

The lovers reunion happened on a winter day, like their first meeting all those years ago.

5/5

Enjoi and Adieu!

Spoiler

The story is a happy ending and nothing too "abusive" (to the readers) happens. Its just their past life is a little sad

This book reads like fine wine. There's not much action but lots of emotions. And not just the main characters, even the side-characters that appear in sub-plots lasting only 10-15 chapters will catch your attention.

MC is born weak in body but with an inexplicable sword-power in his soul making him both powerful and conversely weak at the same time.

He is accompanied by ML and the mystery behind ML's ghost-like appearance, his past and their shares relationship a long time ago will keep you guessing. A nicely done mystery that readers... more>> will find themselves guessing until the last reveal.

Highly recommended for those who like subtle romances and a sort of peaceful story.

Idk about you guys but throughout the story, I have been laughing and crying - literally. The Dajing extras made me bawl my eyes out, not everyone would get what they want.

Reading this made me realize that, many plots of other novels are idealistic? I mean it is good cause were here for the fiction and all, but this one got me real hard. If it dies then no resurrection, if it resurrects then it has no soul, even if one waits they won't get what they want, even if... more>> they get it it takes time. So my tears are worth it.

Very good, I like all the characters and not satisfied because the chapters are not long enough, I still want to see them especially the Lin family (MC). There are still many relationships that need to be developed, I want to see how Lin Rufei (MC) and Gu Xuandu (ML) get married. Oh and I also want to see Chu Yu and her children as well as Fu Hua and Yu Rui grow up. And there is also the He family, I want to see how the Lin family reacts... more>> when the MC learns to curse, it must be very funny. I also still want to see Wu Yu and Mo Changsan. There are so many scenes that haven't been explored in this novel. <<less

This is so precious... so precious!

I definitely didn't expect that I would love this story as much as I do.

I thought that this will be just a cliche story (and yes there are cliche parts) but dang, the mystery and every arc is so so good!

... more>> Especially the mystery between the MC and ML, that's something I thought I already guessed but I was still wrong.

This is definitely a worth it read!

EDIT: Re-read this for the 2nd time and just wow. I might love this novel even more now. And even though I read this novel a year ago, I didn't completely remember the whole plot so I was still shocked about the climax part hihi

Anyway, even at my 2nd read, it was a really good read so give this a chance.

The arcs/visits of MC are really interesting and well thought. Don't miss out 😉 <<less

The characters are well made. Not just the maun characters but also the side characters. There are other side cp with interesting stories.

The MC is just so lovable. There's something charming about him. Kinda gives me the vibe from TGCF. The ML is kinda pitiful, we also shouldn't forget about Ye Ao. I'm a sucker for butter sweet relationship.

The story is such a fun read. It made me interested in ancient china setting again. The translation is superb. The extras are nice ... more>>

It would've a 4 but it's so unsatisfying. It's like eating a dish and saving the juiciest part for the last, only to eat it and realise it has ruined the taste in your mouth. That's how this book is.

I've always hated author's note (except ones that talks about the author's daily life) but this one takes the cake. Any notes that talks about the characters feels like a shortcut to me. It is just lazy writing. Instead of taking the long way of developing the characters and their attraction... more>> to each other, you immediately begin to push them together from the get-go and tell the readers what to feel. We are supposed to see the attraction, chemistry and relationship progression, you are not to tell us! It doesn't help that most of the notes in this book is s*x related even when the ML has just been introduced! Pure lazy writing.

The "big reveal" was so lacklustre and tension-free. Anyone with an IQ bigger than that of a mosquito already knew the "mystery". Lemme just quote a fellow reader on the translation site;

I'm really hoping that the author has more in terms of a finale than revealing who LRF really is. The author just keeps baiting us with morsels of info, dangling the truth in front of us and smiling mysteriously. Which would be fine 25% - or even 50% - through the book, but not in the last few chapters. We still don't have any overaching plot (and I'm not counting "solving" the "mystery" of who LRF is, as plot) and there's only 12 chapters left. 12! I don't know how to feel about this because this feels like the midpoint of the story not the ending. There should be at least consolidation of identities of the main duo and then an organic unfurling of a grand plot where we get to experience them with the new dynamic of their relationship (via the newfound truths about their identities), retrospectively assess their past relationship and them build upon this knowledge, watching as they grow together on the backdrop of an epic conflict... where's my epic backdrop going to go in 12 chapters?

I sincerely couldn't say it better myself and may I say that this was at 84% of the book! Yeah, 84%! I lost the little affection I had for GXD with him always smiling mysteriously (words can't explain my hatred for those scenes). Like, there is nothing more annoying than a someone that knows all the tea, tells you that they know it but refuses to spill and makes you go the long way to find out while smiling mysteriously😑😒. The whole mystery shiding will have been over and long done at 35% if GXD could be bothered to open his mouth😒.

And wtf was Wu Ao's arc about? How could LRF be so cruel? Wu Ao did nothing wrong and just wanted to be loved and acknowledged by his master and LRF did that?! Any affection I had for LRF died at that point. All LRF had to do was say some words. That. Was. All. Just have a decent convo with Wu Ao and grant him forgiveness (dude wasn't so bad) but did LRF do that? No! That was too much work for our Heavenly Ruler. I almost rated this 1☆ just for that arc. My enjoyment of the earlier chapters was what prevented me.

Not so bad a read as long as you can tolerate seeing the plot twist a mile away and the author acting all smart and "mysterious". <<less

kinda boring. Going into this right after KoD, I'm a little disappointed.

i thought everything about the novel was weak-- weak plot, weak characters, weak romance. Very passable and non-descript, but nothing that was bad. Just passable.

the novel focused a lot on a wandering journey from situation to situation, following the mc's journey. However, both the audience and the MC were nothing more than flies on the wall to everything that happened. It felt like the MC never did anything, but that things kept happening to the MC instead. Like a... more>> transient spirit, blown from place to place. The plot was also fairly weak. Some other reviews have described the story as episodic, which I agree with, but only if the episodes were 24 minutes long and had fairly simple resolutions. No real investment into the story and very shallow payoffs. And it felt like the MC wasn't there to be involved, just to watch alongside the audience.

the MC was also a little bit too op. Though sickly, the audience always knew that, in any fight, he would win in a heartbeat, even though he's never trained a day in his life. No stakes. No tension. Just passable.

his characterization was also fairly weak. I can't think of three adjectives for how I would describe his personality except maybe a little oblivious? Not even that, to be honest. He's pretty much just a conduit for the audience to watch the story through.

the romance wanted to capitalize on the same "waiting patiently for lover for a lot of years" that's quite popular, but I'm genuinely so meh about it. Usually, I'm yearning and cheering for for characters to finally make a move during slow burn, but I was genuinely surprised when they confessed at the end. Like, a little blindsided to where it even came from. The relationship just felt like it came out of nowhere.

overall, I don't hate it, but I would never read it again. It was just, in a word, forgettable. <<less

I quite enjoyed reading the novel, and the only thing that I hated about it is its title which actually can be considered offensive as it's a mistranslation, accidental or not.

You see, the raws title says peach and during the narration author talks about peach flowers, peach trees, even the origin of the name. Thus, it is actually an important detail, yet for whatever reason if you're reading the suggested translation all the praise goes to the overly popular sakura slash cherry blossoms which can makes the original author dirty... more>> if they intentionally wanted to use peach flowers and not cherry. That's really, really bad.

The novel is nice, plot is good and there are some interesting twists and characters have volume and are not just some faceless wood. I enjoyed reading it, tho I was triggered every time I saw cherries. Using machine translation then becomes enjoyable. <<less

Spoiler

MC is the youngest son of a prestigous sect family, though he himself is very weak. he raises a cherry blossom tree only for him to suddenly see ML one day, though hes the only one able to do so. at the same time, MC learns he has a hidden ability and decides to travel to make sense of everything. MC and ML go from city to city and meet various people, all of which helps MC expand his worldview from his sheltered upbringing. they meet individuals from the era of the heavenly ruler, and MC slowly realizes that ML is related to the heavenly ruler. at the climax of the story, MC learns that he was the heavenly ruler's reincarnation, and that MC and ML were lovers in their past lives. he had sacrified himself for the safety and peace of the world, but his soul preserved by ML until the day of ml's final tribulation, where both their souls scattered. MC reincarnated, whereas ML could only recuperate over hundred of years, waiting for the day MC finds him again.

[collapse]

thoughts:

its a decent read to pass time, in the sense that the plot doesnt drag. the side stories had a variety of flavors and I do appreciate how everything that seemed random and incongruent were actually all foreshadowing lin rufei's and gu xuandu's past in some way or form...

that being said, i've read KOD from this author and the impression I get is that she likes to write small short stories within the larger context of the main story. which works well with infinite flow novels like KOD where it requires instanced scenarios, but falls flat in a linear story like this one. it makes for some very jarring and unfulfilling sense of progression. and a lot of side characters pop up then drop at the blink of an eye. I understand the author was probably trying for a style that showcases a bunch of small stories from a large cast of side characters, but I think it couldve been tied up a bit better for that sense of 'everything coming together' grandeur. otherwise it's no different than reading a collection of short stories that have nothing to do with each other :/

the ending left a lot to be desired especially their backstory. I wanted to read more about their first love as master disciple, or even their second love when he was a sword spirit. there was SO MUCH potential. I was really hoping it would be written in the extras or something but alas.

(+ I will say that I like how the author kept the identity of the heavenly ruler muddled that even I was second guessing myself for a good part of the story.)

there were some plot holes but overall I dont think they really affected the story's enjoyment. its a 3.5/5 from me <<less

This was a pretty cute novel. I don’t think I need to give a long spiel about it, though because it was fairly simple.

It was interesting, but it did get slow along the way and I wasn’t much of a fan of the whole adopted father and kid falling in love even if it happened after the kid was of age. They try to make it okay by making it a master/disciple relationship, but ultimately, so long as it’s an adult that brings up a child (especially one under like... more>> 14/15– when they’re still largely dependent on the adult figure) it’s weird as hell if they end up together. Luckily we didn’t have to go through the whole processes of them meeting and spending time together as master and disciple but still.

other than that, I don’t have too much else to complain about. It’s was a good story to pass the time <<less

oh my... this was quite enjoyable... a wonderful read... it’s not the fluffiest but it was a warm kind of bl; gave me ‘thousand autumns’ x tgcf x qt soul fragment retrieval kind of bl... ultimately it was a story of mc’s travels across the jianghu and his growth and discoveries... I quite liked the fact that there weren’t any real villains in this story... the comedic undertones was quite sophisticated and not forced or slapstick at all... the love story was also quite subdued but it was all good

One of the most entertaining danmei novels I have ever read. There's a sense of mystery on the real identities of the MC and ML and I cannot wait their secret identities to be revealed. The arcs can be a bit dark and sad, but the endings are generally well--thought. I can't wait it to be finished translating! Highly recommended.

this is a gem! I was reluctant to read this at first due to the low ratings... but it was written by xi zixu so naturally I had to give it a go since their novels are all really fun. and wow! its pretty good! the beginning is a bit slow, but after MC leaves the kunlun mountains, the adventures and solving mysteries are really good. MC may seem weak, but hes actually not just some sickly pushover (READ ON! Translation: 5/5 really solid quality by Cherry Moon Scanlations. Thank you for all your hard work, it made reading this book a pleasure!

Novel: 3/5 stars.

With this novel, I need to start at the very end.

For me, you see, ending is crucial. A good series *needs* to have an interesting - and even better: captivating - buildup, followed by a solid ending that follows through, in order to be satisfying. I won't be a stickler and say eahc and every damned thread needs to be tied up in a nice little... more>> bow, or that there need to be an epic plot spanning multiple threads of plot all culminating in a bombastic ending. No. Often times an ending that is too long will drag (see, dare I say it, TGCF) where the time could have been spent far more productively on the characters themselves. Others, though, tend to go the other way entirely (i.e. the worst way).

.. What I'm subtly building up to in here is that the ending in this novel sucks ass, basically. 80% through the book and still there was no real plot in sight (other than the episodic plot points and, I guess, the identity of MC - who if you have 2 brain cells working, you'd have figured out ages ago). So I was reading with growing dread, almost shouting at times: what are you doing?! we KNOW WHO HE IS! Get to the plot! But nope. On it went, meandering through obvious mini "twists" and a "struggle" (yes, singular). And then.. that's pretty much it.

To be spoilery:
Spoiler

while MC changed throughout the story a tad, when it was most crucial and pivotal, he just kinda took it in stride and shook off something that should have been mindboggling - literally. A thing that should have been character alteringly important, an enormous power upgrade and what not, went like water over a duck. Easily shaken off and discarded, to be used only - ONLY - to fix his love interest. Any and all excitement that could have been had at that was therefore cleanly pulled by the root and discarded.

[collapse]

The relationship: most of the time it was enjoyable. Most of the time. Ending was flat. Also there were points at which the ML was behaving in a way that was very much not cool. If you got here thinking this might be similar to TGCF - you'll be disappointed. Perhaps not straight away, but you will be. It's really not the same level, not even close. Go read Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know or something. Finally, the novel suffers from a serious case of... river crabs so don't expect there to be any papapa or thereabouts.

The characters: MC is a really enjoyable character. We get the typical weak beauty, true, but he has a lot more depth than would seem at the first sight. You'll also pay a lot of attention to MC blinking haha (as in: a single blink, not batting eyelashes or anything). ML is.. well, there is a strong similarity to Hua Cheng that wants to be voiced, but I don't really think that's being fair to HC. This ML just... doesn't have that something in him. Rather flat, I think. Sometimes just bordering on likeable, even.

The plot: aside from the points mentioned above - the episodic plot pieces were quite enjoyable indeed. It seems the author is far better equipped at dealing with shorter, self-contained stories rather than any overarching, grand plot points.

Summary: ending sucks, episodic plot pretty nice, MC is entertaining, ML meh. A poor man's TGCF in short. <<less

Thankful for full translation! Love the theme and the episodic arcs, the small mysteries and over-arching plot with a good ending (mainly for MC).

It has a very subtle grand wuxia feel with lots of melancholy and a lot of characters (but luckily most of them are confined to their individual arc so I don't feel overwhelmed). There is a good MC as we navigate the world and plot with him, unravelling plot along the way.

I just minus 0.5 for the angst because I don't think I recovered from it... more>> even though it was done so brilliantly well. In fact, I read this a while back and had to put it down because
Spoiler

I literally didn't recover from THE FIRST ARC? Like it gutted me and I had to put it down to BREATHE for like 6 months before I came back to finish because I saw the translation was finished. And then I saw the extras and was gutted AGAIN? I need something so mindlessly fluffy to soothe myself now.

[collapse]

There are many happy couples to balance the angst (though the angst kind of gutted me by a landslide. And there's more than just love themes in the story.

Overall, a very unique book in the genre but go in with your heart shielded (is that a term? Just beware.). <<less

0. If you enjoy case solving novels like Mo Dao Zu Shi, you will enjoy this one too. Because - it DOES have an interesting cases, I would even say that most of them are really enjoyable.

P. S. And I have read plenty of such novels, believe me, not everyone can write another Sherlock Holmes.

2. Humorous vibes thought whole novel. This is not a comedy, don't be misleaded, just enough humor to lighten the... more>> mood.

3. Lovely relationship without useless angst. They are of pretty common type, so nothing more to say about them.

The novel was really enjoyable, I would recommend to try it. <<less
