“I see… As I thought, today was your birthday, Lewin! …Alright! Then, from today, you’re fired.”

For five years, I was trampled on and oppressed as I worked myself to death for the Healer’s Guild, but on my fifteenth birthday, I was fired.

I wallowed in frustration and self-pity while I despaired… but you can’t eat tomorrow’s fill just by despairing.

In the Healer’s Guild, I was just the odd jobs boy who was in charge of bookkeeping and classifying the medicinal herbs, but after being fired, my ultimate skill, [Plant Master] blooms.

This is the story of the dramatic turn of events where the boy who possesses the ultimate [Plant Master] skill climbs up from the very bottom of society.

This wins the award for Most Beta MC 2021.

Weakling, push over, excessive politeness and mention to formal/polite speech, says sorry and thank you for everything, takes sh*t from everyone and doesn't get angry or do anything about it, bows down his head for anything. Really, most of the dialogues are the MC saying thank you to ppl for the simplest things.

Damn, just why would someone write a Main Character like this? It's a submission fetish on par with NTR. I just can't understand how would reading about such a submissive... more>> character be fun.

Spoiler

Some adventurers left him to die to escape monsters and he wasn't even going to report them to the guild. He only did so because his savior demanded him to be less accepting while he told her it was his fault for poorly choosing the party, so it wasn't even a character progression. He also cried like a little bit*h while being rescued.

[collapse]

There doesn't seem to be any character progression coming. He'll remain as passive as possible, working diligently while 'karma' takes care of the 'bad guys'. The boss who fired starts getting troubles, the party who left him get locked away. It's like a bad message to oppressed Japanese workers: "Keep being mild, obedient, working hard and trust the system to punish the rotten ones. You can get rich and happy as long as you do that!"

The story for these 40 chaps was him going to a mountain to gather herbs and sell them, nothing more aside from interactions with adventurer guild and parties. Chaps are short and there's lots of wasted dialogues with pleasantries and thank yous. <<less

Was thinking that this is an amazing book, a solid 4-4.5/5, until chapter 184, then the author goes and starts complicating things for absolutely no reason.

Big spoiler, and I really mean big so read at your own discretion.

Spoiler

He finally meets up with the girl he likes and the rest of her party. They made a deal that he would join them after getting stronger, because at the start he was a weak as they come. He spends over a year getting stronger, finally finds them in some far away city, only to have the girl (who really wanted him to join the party mind you) deny him and have him jump through loops for absolutely no reason, the loop being "make your own party and advance until you are as strong as our party and then you can join us."

So basically she expects him to spend god knows how long making his own party, catch up to them, and then abandon his party to join them? Isn't that just idiotic?

[collapse]

Non spoiler version: He sets a goal for himself, then after a very long time of hard work he finally reaches that goal, only for the goalposts to be moved in a ret*rded direction for absolutely no reason whatsoever, and now it feels like we are back to square 1...

Unnecessary drama to spice up the plot I guess, but I hate that approach it's just lazy in my opinion, just throw in drama and you don't have think of new plot points for a while, while the characters keep running in circles.

Anyway the story is fun, I feel that the author focuses on the wrong things at times (for instance 2 whole chapters focusing on him shopping at a store, buying god knows what, he never says, and talking about how efficient the queue system of the store is) but a fun read nonetheless, up until chapter 184 that is. I'll continue reading it, and update the review if things change for the better. <<less

he doesn’t immediately become all powerful like most novels. Growth is steady. Typically withdrawn Japanese personality to appeal to traditional polite society from main character. Obvious obnoxious former boss villain but he immediately loses job after firing after meeting failures after failures because he let go an essential employee, so there is appeal to black company workers in Japan. Currently novel only goes up to arc 3 where he plans to leave town to follow after adventurers being called to reinforce front line against monsters. He has not left yet

Not for me

Meeting sword instructor: 5ch's

Consuming bitter plant: 9ch's

Saying goodbye to 3 people: 15ch's

The story isnt bad but the pacing kills me. The chapters are so short but the text is so wordy and exhausting. It feels tiring to read which sucks for both SoL and adventure novels.

The novel is nothing new: commoner gets fired or kicked out and slowly builds his way up society.

The story is actually pretty well fleshed out with only bits of minor plot holes. The MC is pretty likeable too.

Spoiler

The MC cried a bit and is a polite and withdrawn but I see no problems with that, contrary to other people.

[collapse]

This novel is based on the MC picking plants and growing. At least for now if you are looking for intense fight scenes or a dramatic romance, this novel is not for you.

Overall a good read for a break from those intense novel out there. <<less

A decent story but very slow pace. I'm not entirely sure where the author is planning to go with this story but it isn't going to be reaching it's final destination any time soon. A lot of action and plenty of focus on the MC's interactions with others. The story is about the MC getting stronger but his super OP ability doesn't help that goal very much aside from being a good source of income, so the MC is developing at a slow but steady pace. Unfortunately the author seems... more>> to want to make the MC's power the source of his strength and it is pretty unclear how he is going to do that without the MC discovering BS plants that are ridiculously useful and way better than anything that he has even heard of until now. There is a clear explanation in place for how the MC is going to accomplish this but I'm not interested enough to keep reading.

Essentially this is the story of an MC with a broken ability that would be incredible for alchemy and making money but that the author is determined to somehow make useful in battle. That would still be fine but the author keeps raising the stakes for how powerful the MC wants to become and the end goal just seems silly at this point. Not because it is anything outside the norm for this genre but because the MC is looking for a hero level power for himself, personally, with only an ability to identify plants. Which could still be neat but the author mainly has this manifest in battle through stat enhancement and potions. And then as soon as the battle starts the focus switches to sword fighting. So the author wants a sword-fighting hero but is trying to write about this plant-gatherer. Frankly I feel the author should have rethought this.

If you like the tags and summary then give this a shot but be aware that this is going to be a looooong story and the pacing is really not great for the episodic releases. There are some minor arcs where things are exciting and you can't wait to read the next chapter but there are also super dull filler chapters. For instance, chapter 160 can be summed up as 'MC found an inn to stay at in this new town. It is run by people with cat ears. They seem nice.' Then chapter 161 is similarly useless. So even with a 1-a-day release schedule you start to get tired of this nonsense and want to get to the plot. Go ahead and binge what's already out and if you enjoy it then make this something you check on once a month. <<less

Its a pretty nice read, it's your typical underdog/weak to strong novel with a pretty nice MC, but well even though he's cowardly, he's a pretty nice MC so if you wanna read an abused boy climb up the ladder then this is your novel. The details on the herbs, plants and magic of the novel is pretty good as well. In conclusion, it's a nice novel and it suits my tastes, but be warned it isn't for everyone like the reviewer below me or future ones so... more>> take my review with a pinch of salt. But just try it. Who knows, maybe you'll like it. Plus, daily updates yay (atleast by the time I wrote the review anyway). Well thanks for reading my review. <<less

I love this one, but it’s not for everyone! It’s slow, incredibly slow, it’s not some “the MC wakes up and can just level the entire world” story. The MC struggles and claws his way up slowly with hard work and back breaking effort, which is described slowly and in great detail.

The author’s divided the story into different, very clear, arcs of progress. There’s a ton of character growth, physically and mentally, but if you’re looking for an instant change, you’ll be disappointed.

Lewin, the MC, grew up without a father... more>> as a poor commoner, his mother died from overworking when he was a child, and he ended up thrown into the Healer’s Guild as a small, malnourished, commoner child with no family in the world, surrounded by only Nobles lead by a Guild Chief who viewed commoners as literal tr*sh. He was abused and overworked to the point of nearly dying, he was barely fed, and then he was cast out of the guild like garbage as soon as he turned 15 and became a legal adult. He was thrown with his meagre belongings out into the world, with no family or friends or place to belong, with little money and no particularly useful skills to help him earn a living safely.

He’s insecure. He was told he was useless tr*sh for five years straight with not a single soul on his side or any support to turn to as a child. Obviously he’s going to be insecure, he grows and changes as he experiences more things, gets stronger, and meets people he can rely on and call friends.

His character is incredibly detailed and grounded in reality. He’s dynamic and starts where you’d expect a broken and hurt child would start at. I’m not sure why people think he should be like a Chinese protagonist, all high and mighty looking down on lowly mortals.

I’d absolutely recommend giving it a try. It’s a really well written story, and it really starts to pick up a lot later on.

Also, the translation is absolutely outstanding. It exceeds many professionally published books written and edited by native English speakers. It’s truly phenomenal! <<less

Im sorry but this story is very boring. I tried, trust me, I really tried to like but it really sucks. First of all that kind of ability details so many plot holes and restrictions. Secondly the flow of your story is very, very, very uninteresting. Third, the MC is a very big coward, I mean you get kicked out and all and with so many chapters ahead the MC is till spineless! It gets very annoying chapter by chapter to the point where the flow of the story isnt... more>> really relevant anymore. And just to throw it out there, the title you gave is super ultimate? From the title alone you can clearly understand why the story is so s*upid. You cannot have a super if the skill is already an ultimate skill! Ultimate is an absolute statement and the fact that you have that shitty ability with that type shitty MC personality, I really find it hard to believe that this novel reached so many chapters. Its good to be nice in a story but your setting in your story is riddled with negative emotion that triggers growth for the MC and if you really put yourself in the shoes of your MC every action made in this story became extremely unrealistic thats why I called it s*upid. If anyone of you out there want to read this novel, if you like a boring spineless MC then knock yourself out. <<less

After reading the entirety of the english translated contents of the novel, here are my thoughts
This novel is not for people who are looking for those like over-powered MCs. The story thus far has a heavy focus on the Slice of life elements with strong character development arcs.

Although the title emphasizes 'I Aim to become the Strongest!' the storyline hints it to be the case beyond c302, however the focus for the chapters beforehand focuses more on character development.

Still, I would give the story 5 stars for it's quality... more>> of story arcs. Although the pacing is slow, I sincerely hope you manage to reach c302 as you would be in for a treat! <<less

The story is fairly well polished and it's being well translated, which is very important for my enjoyment.

Nothing revolutionary here, but it is a solid read for those who like this genre of story. It also has my appreciation for doing POV chapters in a way that I don't find annoying.

It has the usual downsides for this type of story, but the one specific to this story is that I feel like it doesn't make use of his plant-based rare skill enough. Or rather, make use of it in enough... more>> interesting ways. He eventually does start making plant-based tools to be used in the dungeon and stuff (like quasi-bombs and sticky slime balls), but even then I don't feel like the author is developing the skill and its uses as-well-as it should be, especially given the title of the novel and how the novel began with the skill being so important to the MC turning his situation around. <<less

like literally every chapter is short AF its cliche and very boring and dull. Its like dry to the very bone and soul and "why?" do they keep switching POVs details but its annoying since almost nothing every happens the chapter will be cut short ots like an endless routine of boringness. Btw the MC is a push over c*nt and so polite😇 it makes me wanna puke.O theres author forgetting characters personality and changes from time to time not character growth but its like portraying a different character completely.... more>> Weird AF right. O for the drama yhea theres alot of unnecessary drama its short doesn't change anything nor directly impact the main characters like short term drama to make this not dry but if you pay attention you might just laugh at how to doesn't affect the story at all its like non cannon drama weird again right. As if a 10 year old had gone to an early puberty and wrote this novel. <<less

This novel is surprisingly good. The MC gradually gets stronger through his constant hard work, and he uses unique methods that are only useful due to his power. The side characters are also all likable and each have a sense of mystery to them. Overall, the novel is a really fun read that is updated everyday, and the translator sometimes uploads multiple chapters in one day.

So the MC really does apologise a lot. However, if you maintain the idea in your mind that “Lewin was severely abused, told he was worthless tr*sh every day, and made to own up to nonexistent ‘mistakes’ for years” this becomes a lot easier to understand and skim through as needed.

Though I gotta say, along with other reviewers, that the apologising DOES get to be a little much, especially towards the end of the 2nd volume (c302) when you’d think he would ease off of such behavior just a wee... more>> bit. The issue is that it frankly starts feeling more like cultural thing so in your head you start going “abused, abused, he was abused, and they’re just being polite, yep, just roll with it.” Thankfully there’s at least 1-2 characters who sharply cut him off, and at least one character has told him that he apologises or thanks people too much, but no one has yet sat him down to try and make him become more self aware and force some character growth.

As someone who used to apologise too much for similar reasons, it’s easy to understand but not so easy to read, admittedly.

Otherwise, I’m enjoying the story though I sorta wish the end of Vol 2 felt like less of a forced plot.
Spoiler

I do love a good potential training montage, but dead characters should stay dead and provide character growth vs. Initialising a “find a miracle resurrection herb” plot.

[collapse]
Though not that I’m completely hating the forced changes of scenery. I just hope Lewin meets more characters - he has this “I don’t want to trouble anyone” personality except it’s other people who force him to grow the fastest. When he tries to do things on his own, he’s slow af. <<less

I'm giving this story five stars based solely on chapter 291 (and the events that lead up to it, of course), but it's difficult to explain why without excessive spoilers.

Suffice it to say that most authors are too cowardly to attempt what this one just did and I have to give him credit for it.

Spoiler

On the other hand if chapter 292 walks this back then the rating is immediately going down to one star.

I really can't like the MC in this story/ I did try to read if maybe later it would get better but it doesn't/

Spoiler

The MC is trying to get to a super dangerous level in the dungeon with a 3 man group just because the crew who he wants to join have a tsundere leader. And the only reason he is trying so hard is because they helped him before

[collapse]

The MC have the plant ability and this ability isn't really the focus of the story but him becoming an adventurer is and unfortunatly it doesn't really suit him since he is a pushover

I was frustrated a lot of times while reading this story especially when the demon army was introduced and this transformed into a hero against the demon army novel <<less

This WN is 80% word padding. Constant recaps, explaining the obvious, MC's repetitive internal monologues. Progress in the first 100 chapters is hair tearingly slow.

MC is a robot. Cast is forgettable. LitRPG system is half-assed; MC's unique skill works like you'd expect it to in a game-like system, but there are no levels etc.

It's like the beginning of a xianxia WN where the MC is secretly taking magic herbs to advance, but the word padding is stretched to infinity.
