I am Ye Qing. Lucky I found a [Monster Factory] application.

This bunch of super strong monsters are individually comparable to over 100 human beings, and they bring all kinds of skills!

Efficiency? With the skill processing speed +300, you still want to compete?

Precision? *cough, cough* Bring me that legendary dial caliper, let’s show them what absolute precision really mean.

Ye Qing: When, us, men want to be successful, we pull out our wallets.

Monsters: Don’t play those malice games with us. The creation of ultimate machinery is our love and life. These impenetrable bodies are our tools of the trade.

A 20 meter tall, overly buffed, savage looking monsters hold on to a ultimate cutting machine and yelled at the sky: “I am not targeting anyone specifically! Rather I am telling you all that, everything, in front of me and my tools are, nothing, but tr*sh!”

I don't understand some of the reasoning behind some of thd 1 stars. I mean... the bit about this being a typical Chinese fantasy novel doesn't make sense to me. It's clearly a Chinese fantasy and it says as such and is fairly obvious that it will have some of the common stuff that's found in most Chinese fantasy. It's like people don't realize certain things about China and assume people are free to write as they please there.

Or the one about how long it takes to complete a transaction.... more>> Chinese writing tends to be flowery and filled with flattery. Unless the translator or editor cuts off those things, there will be a lot of words being used to describe one thing, most often in several different ways. It's part of the culture.

It's like all the gripe are about stuff that's commonly found amongst Chinese culture and nothing to do with the story. As for my view on the story, I'm finding it very amusing. The MC gets control of monsters ans gadgets to build his business empire. Very different from the usual xhuanhan stuff that most people translate even if the MC is fairly stereotypical for the genre. I'm eager to learn more about things as the story goes on. I don't expect things to go above 1000 chapters but who knows. Looking forwars to finding out what kinds of business the MC goes into next and stuff. <<less

Translation from chapter 1-183: A+

Translation from chap. 183 to 293 is MTL. Is this a qidian shell doing low quality mtl? A great and fun little wish fulfillment work fantasy. It has a lot of standard tropes, but with some new ingredients and a fresh mix, it feels like a new and original story. It's a comedy, so it doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's clear that the author took time to research about modern machines.

If only the translation quality could do the story justice. The original translator did a superb job but unfortunately they dropped it. Someone else "picked it up" and just pasted a direct machine translation, which will make you muddle headed trying to understand. The new translator is superior to an unedited MTL, but it's just passable as there are constant mistakes of all types every other sentence.

Here is the first paragraph of the latest chapter (215) as an example:

Spoiler

This generous courtesy really made Ye Qing surprise.

In the face of the solemn promise made by the mayor, who tell the truth.

Ye Qing really can't find anything of it at this moment, because he has any difficulties to solve.

The huge heavy work is in progress, and Ye Qing is also wet because of the warmth and the sweat.

[collapse]

So I highly recommend reading this up to chapter 184, but then putting it into a "needs editing/needs translating" pile and waiting for someone else to finish it.

The story of a hard working guy who is earnestly trying to save his family business while trying to cope with recession, inconpetent workers and just plain bad luck. One day an accident happened in his factory, and on his way to the hospital he witnessed a mysterious phenomenon that will change his life.

Ps: heads up, first 3 chapters are really gloomy, but it gets better afterwards

*sigh* Why does people here are so trigger happy to rate new novels with a one star rating did they even read it.

Sorry for my small rant. Hmmm well the novel is still on it's early stage but it still show some prospect to be a good novel, the translation quality is also good. And well this novel reminds me of God of Cooking/Music and The Almighty Martial Arts feeling so if you'd like those novels then perhaps you might also like this.

Edit: Chapter 113 4/4/2017

So far I'm enjoying reading... more>> the novel. Well day to day life of Ye Qing on his factory as he strive to become the number factory owner. There's some funny scenes that I really like.

And I'm not against some people who gave the one star rating as long as they already READ the raws ahead and not just basing it on the cover of this novel and especially if the novel has only 1 or 2 chapters back then. You can't see any plot development on that stage at all. And I would have refrain from rating it as a 5 star if the 1 star ratings aren't so large back then too, just remember ratings can also affect the motivations of some translator/s into translating. <<less

Do you know, one of the reasons why good novels aren't read is mainly because they're covered up by bad marketing. For this, Monster Factory, I blame the covers. The first cover I saw was a bunch of hulks in construction equipment. The second cover is a cute cartoon monster that's supposed to attract what kind of audience?

Monster Factory is a good novel for what it's supposed to be. Monsters? Yes, there are monsters and the rules behind their use make sense and are nice to read. You have grunts who follow commands well and are very hardworking and precise. You have master craftsmen who are smart, sly, confident, and very good at giving commands. There are land dragons for mining, living armor metallurgists, electric brats with supercomputer-grade tech skills, and giant titans 20 meters tall for the delicate, but massive work. While the MC is limited in how many monsters he can have, that limit increases as his factory levels up and the stage he has to walk becomes larger. It's nice to see some balance.

The Monster Factory provides the MC with both monsters and black technology. He goes from building super construction machines to household robots, to the most futuristic phone one could hold. His smart electric cars are to die for, and I know for sure I would like a set of super light, super comfortable bulletproof clothing.

This MC's goal is to surpass the previous the businesses around him and beyond. He eventually goes against world-grade companies like Apple, and he isn't afraid to tackle them in their home territory.

Countries? The US is his main issue atm, and that's mostly due to President Trump trying way too hard to insincerely catch him and his super company (sending a military jet to harass your private plane home is a d*ck move, but seems very Trump-like).

Nationalism and racism is minimal, but it's not completely gone. But since I've read HacKer, it's on the easy side of things.

Currently, I feel this novel deserves a higher score than what it currently has.

Really 47 people voted one star on this novel.. I am guessing it is just because of the picture.
It does not deserve to have such a low rating compared to other novels that have 4.0 or higher that aren't any better then this novel.

I think that this novel is quite good, if you like business management novels.

I prefer talking about flaws about the novels I read in general so here it is.

It seems a bit too easy for our MC, that's one of the flaws with this novel that... more>> I currently have.

I'd like more details on his power and to know how the summoned monsters think, as I was quite surprised when one of them was acting arrogant, while there's no explanation about them.
We don't know if they grow stronger/smarter with the level his factory is at or whatever the reason for that behavior. <<less

This story is probably mid three stars territory up until chapter 183, and is in itself quite an enjoyable system novel. Then two translators absolutely butcher the English language from then on. Somehow managing to make it even less readable than machine translation.

It's a definite avoid.

The good rating is only from those who read the early chapters.

To be honest, the picture is the only major fault in is over. Suprisingly, looks do help you in life. The story is done really well with combining a game like environment with reality. Although its a bit annoying n the first few chapters, it picks up the pace and start rolling out great stories.

I would say the story has similarities with "Bringing The Farm To Live In Another World" which I also enjoy reading.

The setting of the story is in the modern world where the main character (MC) has terrible luck which can be seen in the 3 early chapters. The variety of emotions shown by the MC in his reactions in these circumstances make him likable almost making the reader root for him (not sure if it will be the same in future chapters as most start off good and drop).

While there... more>> are lines that are hard to understand the translator is doing a good job with how he's improved after chapter 3. Finally, I think the author deliberately titled it "Monster Factory" as word play. Is it a factory that produces monsters or is it a factory with monsters working in it? Read and find out. It will be surprising.

!!!!!!!MTL at ch 184!!!!!!!!
Messed up my head!

If you like business management, give the first ~100 chapters a shot. They are fun. The chapter where his minions deals with knockoff manufacture is about where it peaks, I advise stopping after that. Story is solid ~4 territory until this point because you can reasonably suspend disbelief. I think after this point, once the factory starts expanding, suspending disbelief gets very very difficult the modern setting just leaves me questioning the world. Where are your corporate spys? Where are your government agents?

How can he literally mine an area without getting noticed?
Spoiler

his dinosaur minions are headbutting rocks, this shakes the earth, people pay attention to this kind of thing

[collapse]

Most of all, Why is NO ONE asking him questions? His parents are just out of the picture after he pays the bills, so why don't they question their son? Early on he lies and says "imported/borrowed technology" to them, but everytime it's publicized in the news it's all "Our innovative county is light years ahead of everyone else". Why aren't they calling this bluff?

Chapter by chapter it got harder to believe this world where he could have it all exists. The final straw is

THE GIANT MECH

[collapse]
This is too big of a leap. This wouldn't be allowed to sit stationary without reporters from across the world questioning it. People would ask if it was a weapon. They would be scared a tiny bit, but most of all, if it wasn't a weapon, people would make it one.

Please ignore the cover, maybe summary too. This one is better to just jump into, you'll get some fun until you can't believe it anymore.

The novel is unique in it's own way, there are alot of standard tropes with a little twist of sci-fi.

This is one of the best wish fulfillment novels i've read.

I SERIOUSLY LOVED IT AND WAS DESPERATE FOR MORE.

... more>> BUT (BOOOOOOOOOM)

It came crashing down at chp 186 the translator dropped it and another 'translator' just picked it up.

From chp 186 onwards the 'translator' just copy pasted it from MTL and tweaked it so that it was barely comprehensible, I had to sacrifice alot of brain cells to continue reading, literally I felt dyslexic the next day at school.

This novel was such a gem, I had very high hopes for it

I held up till chp 300 because of the amazing story

But I just cannot continue reading it anymore

Decent speed read, System-genre novel focused on industrialization and manufacturing.

3 out of 5 stars because I'm biased towards the theme and am reading the CN raws, but objectively speaking it's probably just 2 stars at best due to problematic development of the MC, very problematic use of the aliens/monsters and questionable translations.

PREMISE

A down-and-out Chinese mechinist Ye Qing is having the worst day of his life due to a series of unfortunate events, when he comes across a System that enables him to summon technologically superior races. With his... more>> newfound powers, the MC aims to be a God of Industry.

COMMENTS

(1) Genuinely interesting theme on industrialization

Rather than transmigrating, plagiarism of creative content or gaining unnatural personal superpowers, MC gains access to black technology (highly futuristic tech beyond human capabilities).

There's a lot of impressive lexicon that is quite legit.. manufacturing advances, techniques, various tolerances, precision engineering and specs. It's a real world problem where China -- previously known for low quality mass manufacturing-- had to prove itself to the world (Germany, US, Switzerland etc) with quality engineering.

The industrial applications for his technology are genuinely interesting and semi-practical.
Spoiler

-- Highly speed/quality 5-axis CNC machining enables his COMPANY to make architectural carvings (stone and metal working)

-- Advanced metallurgical techniques (entirely from alien races) enables his COMPANY to make unheard of on-site repairs

-- Large scale nitol manufacturing (restorative nickel titanium alloy) enables his COMPANY to get into intensive wear shipbuilding/automobiles

[collapse]

I'll admit I'm biased on this since a lot of what was covered in the novel was part of my engineering degree. However...

(2) Incredibly problematic premise

You would think that this novel should be written as an opportunity to enhance Chinese technological prowess and manufacturing capabilities. NO.
It's entirely a selfish endeavor for the MC to show-off how awesome he is / his familiars are. MC summons a whole bunch of technologically and physically superior races to do everything.
So ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE ACHIEVEMENTS in this novel is due to the MC.

Instead of hiring human staff and enhancing the capabilities of human technological know-how, all the MC is doing is directly importing foreign technology. The Chinese were embarrassed that they had to import technology from Westerners (US, Germany), so now they import equipment from Aliens! Even better, the aliens don't need to eat/sleep/be paid anything, so MC's cost basis advantage is entirely FAKE since there's zero labor costs!

They are basically Harry Potter Dobbys.

*slow clap, sarcastic*
How goddamn amazing!! What a way to put all your competitors out of work and show how awesome you are!

Tony Stark was great because he possessed the intelligence to build the Iron Man suit/JARVIS.
MC Ye Qing is given an Iron Man suit. That's it.

It's incredibly annoying since you know author could've just tweaked the system to award MC engineering knowledge to become a Tony Stark. But no, Ye Qing ends up with the same level of knowledge he had before.

There are chapters and chapters describing how awestruck the MC was whenever he received new technology or met other human industrialists, while his own familiars couldn't even be bothered to hide their disdain for the low level of technology. Ugh, how embarrassing.

MC comes up with a random idea, and literally goes, "Hey Dobby 1. I have an idea, but I'll need to make a Widget A that I have no idea how to do. So you go figure it out how to make it, and after you're done I'll show-off how awesome I am."
Rinse and repeat.

This single setting ruined most of the story.

(3) Multiple faux-pas... with implied racism
Not sure why no reviewers picked up on these.

-- The initial summoned familiars were basically humanoid orcs with low-level intelligence and repeatedly described as looking like NBA players (i.e. black people despite having greenish-blue skin). Prior to obtaining System outfits to disguise them, MC went as far as...

Spoiler

you guessed it.
BLACK FACE.
He literally painted their entire bodies with black hair dye.
Then the Author realized he seriously f**ked up, so he changed it out and created a setting for System to award outfits for disguise.

[collapse]

-- In the first few chapters, MC was just bringing his technology up to cutting edge human standards. Very shortly thereafter, author ran out of feasible human explanations for why his identical CNC machine is better than another CNC machine.
All technology is listed black tech. It's +5% +15% +25% better than normal tech. Just because.

-- All monster races have special abilities that make them better than humans, from enhanced hearing to hand-eye coordination to physique. Humans are the weakest pieces of sh*t in this novel. I'm wondering why humans aren't the s*aves here instead of the monsters. The novel should be renamed "Monsters are so awesome, humans are tr*sh".

-- Incredibly inconsistent world-building. Everything is supposed to be grounded in real world physics since that's the entire point of the technological advancement. But MC has a magical ROV drone that just magically gets upgraded with black box technology whenever he advances a level.

The only saving grace is that various other countries are not total douchebags. All capitalists are equally greedy and unscrupulous. The CN, JP and KR engineers were rightfully suspicious of MC's technological capability, but quickly accepting of MC's abilities once proven wrong. i.e. no pointless face-smacking. <<less

I'm not sure why others giving this Novel 1/5 - I hope they really think this novel deserve 1/5 and not because they only want to make it low score. I really like this novel - it's a different concept and you will be able to know more about mechanical and construction stuff. I highly recommend this Novel if you like I'm really Superstar & I'm in Hollywood

I ended up dropping this novel around chapter 197. This novel started off pretty good, I really liked it. There were times when I was reading I felt a little bit of disgust because some of that good old (sarcasm) Chinese nationalism was seeping into the story (China AWesOme, foreigners SuCK). However, I was able to ignore that and power through the story. Then the translators switched out and the translation quality, plus the fact that racism was almost definitely going to play a bigger part of the story in... more>> the future when

I've picked up a gem of a story!✨ Started reading yesterday and finished just now at ch156. Fantasy sci-fi cross-over in modern setting. The MC not your typical handsome guy but is cool in terms of his actions & thinking. The first 3 chapters kinda sad but it all gets exciting and satisfying onwards. This novel is a good read for me because so far no angst, depressing stuff, etc. I look forward to the next updates how MC continues to rise along with his company of hi-tech monsters and... more>> they rule the mechanical industry.? <<less

Highly enjoyable read. I'm personally pretty much up to date with the raws.

Though the author makes some mistakes with details here and there, just treat it as this story being written in an alternative universe that's 99% similar to ours. (No such thing as a Gulfstream g750 in service bro)

Likewise, the translator does a pretty good job. There are some small diction/grammar mistakes but they don't detract from reading too much.

I had my doubts when I was reading the introduction and when I saw the picture of the cover, I thought this was going to be a pokemon-ish kind of story however it is not. If you are into fighting and cultivation novels then you will not enjoy this novel but if you like empire building then this might be up your alley. this story's setting is in modern day China wherein a young man who graduated as an engineer works hard to make their family business survive in it's... more>> industry however as life would have it the company is experiencing it's downfall. His cellphone then becomes a "magical item" that can summon monsters who specializes in their line of work. Now he must try to be the number one company in the world without tipping the balance too much or they might suspect him of having some alien technology.

if you are going to give it a try then I suggest reading at least 50+ chapters to get an idea on how the story will flow.

the translation is decent and they release regularly at the moment. <<less

Damn, this series is really refreshing and interesting. The technical bits do not really matter, because it's that enjoyable. And he has this greedy bits, when he want to have this and that, which make it more real. The story is quite linear until newest chapter, but I really enjoy it so far. Recommended for all kinds of reader, which very much done with reincarnation stories.

Unusual setting to say the least (although those "app influencing real world" are starting to get popular), but so far it seems fairly decent.

I never understand the mass of either 5 stars or 1 stars, especially when it's neither garbage nor near perfection, but from what we have now, it could turn into a fairly interesting story, if the author continues with the setting of using actual machinery.

A bit early for me to rate it, as it's fairly often that the major flaws of a novel only appear after a... more>> while, but those first 5 chapters are fairly decent quality, both writing and translation.

That said, it only just started introducing the "app" and what it can do, so if you want to get a good feel for the novel, maybe wait a bit more before giving it a proper go. <<less

I did not have high hopes going into this but was pleasantly surprised. If you like reading Chinese novels, then chances are you will like this. If you do not like how most Chinese novels are written, then you might not. This follows the general trend of "I want to make money and start out with some debt or really unlucky streak" which is a common theme in Chinese and Korean novels and does it using production and heavy machinery. It has a bit of a dumb opening premise, but... more>> I don't think it is any dumber than finding a heavenly mythic treasure that has some old grandpa's spirit that can teach you his heaven defying techniques. And according to the novel, even I Eat Tomatoes likes the merchandise the MC makes, so what's not to like? <<less
