A top hacker was chosen by the Lord God to be reborn into countless worlds, always as an expendable villain.

With no free will, every world became a dead end. Each of his lives ended tragically.

Finally, after wrestling control of the Villain System, this ace hacker decided to enact revenge. Even if his very bones were rotten, he’d choose to occupy the very heights of morality, if only on the surface.

Thus, he would change his fate as an abused slag.

ok..... so you will either love it to death or hate it for your dear life. This is the kind of book that is for readers who want decisive, bold, ruthless and really smart MC and love fantasizing and dreaming. Not for those who like novels relatable to real life. Because while Zhou Yun Sheng is a MC most people will love because of his smarts, the settings of whole novel make it very hard to like for people who like slice of life, emotional with ups-and-downs, relatable and literary... more>> kind of novels. As settings are really logical, and appropriate reasons are given for MC's op-ness, it doesn't make hard to digest the smoothness, straightforwardness, logical and rigorous approach to those who are more logic and goal-oriented people. While those have more artistic cells, more sentimental who care about process, people with more delicate minds, will find it absolutely boring to say the least because it's really bland to them. They are not exactly blaming op-ness of MC, but it's just story becomes bland and smooth without any sense of anticipation for them. So, you need to think about what type you are first, if you are starting to read this novel....

I am an infj, a rare creature with a delicate balance of logical and artistic cells. So, while I clearly enjoyed the goal-oriented and straightforward approach of MC, my emotional side was dissatisfied with bland romance. While this blandness was clearly an after-effect of op-ness of main character, it could have been made better by adding some difficulties to settings if not reducing op-ness, like the beginning 2-3 chapters of real world. But love, which clearly is a delicate feeling was also treated with utmost logic and reason, and while outcomes were reasonable and most suitable as if what else could happen..... It clearly doesn't mean satisfaction and that people will praise it. So, while this is a good book, it lacks balance. For me, it was good in first read, but then became as bland as water, just good when I read my favourite arcs- the apocalypse one, first one, ABO one and western fantasy. Obviously the real life one too...... <<less

This is the kind of story that starts out great, and end up even better. And the translator did a fantastic job!

Spoiler

Backstory is a QT where MC is a hacker that was forced by Lord God to travel around various worlds and act as the villain. Later on, it’s revealed that the Lord God is an advanced AI that forces people yo be the villain to steal energy from them and eventually, these people will die.

The story starts when MC breaks free from Lord God’s control and he goes around the world collecting energy from Lord God.

[collapse]

The premise makes complete sense and it’s very well-linked such that I didn’t notice any glaring logic gaps while still being pleasantly surprised by the MC’s revelation towards the end.

ML is also extremely possessive over MC. Most of the time it takes a while for ML to recognise MC but once he does, he acts like a territorial beast around his mate. However, ML is also very sweet and considerate, and he doesn’t do anything that the MC doesn’t want. Overall, the main couple is very respectful, loving and considerate of each other which makes the story even more pleasant and enjoyable.

The only point that made me a little 50/50 is how insanely powerful the main couple is.

Spoiler

ML is an AI

Thats a tad bit too exaggerated <<less

Note: I have not read the extras but I will still count it as completed for the main story.

To me, this is the OG novel that got me hooked into quick transmigration as a genre. Due to this sentimentality, I can never hate it.

If you don't like G/Mary Sues, then this might not be the one for you. MC is overpowered, and the reason is always due to his past experiences in the hundreds/thousands of worlds he was forced into by the system. Essentially, after all that experience and knowledge... more>> gained from those worlds despite how forced, he is skilled in a lot of stuff, mainly computer stuff. <<less

This was my first world hopping novel and I didn't know what to expect, but now I have to say I absolutely loved it.

For those who are first timers like me ^^ :

  1. The MC takes different roles throughout the novel. It can range from a nobody in one world to an emperor in another. There's cultivation, show biz, apocalypse and more!
  2. Spoiler

The ML is same in all the worlds. Honestly, I definitely wouldn't have liked it otherwise.

    [collapse]
  3. The worlds are divided in separate chapters (volumes). There are 15 worlds + real world + 2 different world in the extras.
  4. The extras are surprisingly fricking long! There are 4 extras and each one has about 20 chapters :o
  5. Although there are 176 + chapters of the main story, they are quite long so the whole series felt way longer. This was an absolute plus for me because that's what I was looking for.
  6. The world-building for each world was so so good. The author put a lot of thought in each one and even what happens in the real world was so well planned out. I wish there was a long series written out for each world t.t
  7. The MC is an intelligent OP. I love OP characters lol
  8. I loved their relationship in each setting u.u
  9. I liked almost all the worlds but the supermodel arc made me bored af. I guess show biz stories aren't much of my thing.
In short: I definitely loved it and totally recommend it!

It's decent for a light read, but just a light read. To properly enjoy this novel, you'll have to turn off some parts of your brain because of the repetitiveness of.... well, the concept of the entire novel... along with other painful-to-read aspects. Its executions are simple and concepts unoriginal, and even the romance is..... well, read more to know.

Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil is about the different worlds and situations the MC is put in, in order to find his true love, the one he's found in... more>> all his previous worlds and the only one he has feelings for. The range of circumstances he finds himself is definitely interesting, to say the least, but what irks me the most are the ML, the romance and how the author enables the stereotyping of the LGBTQ+ community and not even as a joke this time, white supremacy.

* I probably won't find the space to add this in with all my rantings below but I just want to note that the MC is practically omnipotent. He has a system to help him adjust the physical (and other) aspects of his host body which, like in the Singer/Songwriter Arc, turned him into the literal god of singers with an incredible range, control and technique overnight. He doesn't have incredible intelligence either (or it could just be me?) because instead of trying to create his own songs (Singer/Songwriter Arc) or creating his own essays (Scholar in Archaic China Arc), he plagarises from existing works and gets all the credit, boosting his image and reputation into this otherworldly [insert occupation here]. Sigh. Onto my rantings.

The male lead is.... horribly written and feels like an attempt to make him into this possessive, powerful, alpha top gay man (again, stereotyping, but it's so overdone in Chinese BL novels). In the first world, he's this leader of the biggest mafia gang (?) and a pretty big figure in the business world, which can explain his many red flags but even in the worlds after that, nothing changes. The characters the male leads finds himself in are drastically changed to fit his personality, a freak who spies on the MC because of his overwhelming love and possessiveness. But hey, at least he's the MC's type (stereotyping once more with the helpless "bottom" against the overpowering "top") so in a way, both parties are consenting? ugh.

From the above paragraph, you can already tell how it stereotypes gay people – I'll move onto the other stereotypes. In the Modelling Arc, the original protagonist of that story is a "sexy" woman, Emily, who knows what she wants and does whatever she can to get it. This includes making use of her body to (try to) get an edge up in the competition, but nothing more than that. The MC's host body is a direct contrast with his pure and innocent looks; he soon becomes the fan (and judge) favourite. There's nothing wrong with this, right? I wish. Although she's a sore loser and a potential cheater (if she had been given the opportunities to), that doesn't excuse how everyone else sexualises and shames her for being confident and comfortable in her own body. They repeatedly sl*t shame her by saying how she'd be more suited for s*x work than actual modelling. This itself almost made me drop the novel. The pe*verted aspects of the novel disgusted me. The author brings up Emily's chest size more than they should, and there always happens to be a lusty man nearby who goes gaga at them. ?????? I can't even

And then the white *ss kissing takes place. The MC tends to find himself transmigrated into bodies of young men with blond hair and blue eyes, and an incredibly heavenly appearance. It's either that or the usual black hair and black eyes look. Couldn't the author mix it up a bit? And why do they always have to describe the appearance of the blond hair blue eyed MC in such reverence and detail, and only this form of the MC?

I probably don't have to elaborate more, so I won't. If you enjoyed this novel, good for you and I'm not going to curse you out or anything, but I can't tell how you managed to, with all that. <<less

Literal power trip w MC being a genius in almost everything

A satisfied read of underdog going through tribulation and succeeding in getting himself a good man

MC was forced into villain role and forced into humiliating relationship w female even though he's gay. After many worlds he finally got hold of the system n Counterattack (like all good shou) n get himself a mystery man that follow him through the world n act like alpha male in heat (possessive n strong n weird amount of s*x considering MC is like 17)... more>>

Anywy each world different story so it's Episodic and the extra story was just {French kiss} fun~

My favorite being story 7. Counterattack of the Death Row Prisoner where MC overthrow kingdom by just sitting and looking pretty and story 9. Zombie Apocalyptic just because I'm a sadistic bit*h and love seeing ML suffer from seeing MC die x2 <<less

This is the best quick transmigration story I’ve ever read.

The arcs were all very different and each one was entertaining, the MC is kind of op but not in the way where it’s boring. And the main ship is too cute!

F*ck this was one amazing QT novel. Absolutely recommend! Our MC is super smart is also highly talented in different aspects. ML is possessive but not to the point where you get overwhelmed and become disgusted. The relationship b/w ML and MC is just super sweet and in the later half of the novel you also see that it isn't just the ML who was blindly pursuing the MC, the MC also pursues the ML back. Lol. This was one hell of a ride. Again absolutely recommended.

Coming back to this novel I can never understand why it has such good ratings and reviews. Is it perhaps due to this being the first quick transmigration bl novel newbies tend to read? Seeing it in an almost godly light due to not having anything else to compare it to? Or is it that some people read even worse novels than this one and saw this as a life saving floating plank, latching on to it as they would take anything they could get at that point? These may... more>> be some of the reasons as to why this novel is basically seen as the quick transmigration bible being praised to the high heavens as the best quick transmigration novel in existence and used as a reference to critique every single other quick transmigration novel in their own respective comment sections.

Once upon a time I decided to waste my time pick this novel up due to seeing it being praised in every single quick transmigration comment section I ran into. Thus began the story of me dropping and picking this novel back up a total of three times, dropping it each time sooner than the last.A word of advice it's generally a bad idea to pick back up a novel you can't even remember why you dropped in the first place, your brain tried to erase the bad aftertaste it received in it's neurons for a reason, so just avoid the heartache and pretend you and that novel never had a relationship with each other. Anyway I recently remembered some of the major reasons why I kept dropping this.

All the characters are 1d with no personality, even the main characters, ML was the usual cookie cutter possessive dog in heat I've encountered in various other quick transmigration novels and MC is an op Gary Sue praised to the heavens inside and outside the story, with a personality so bland I can't even remember if he had that much of one at all.

Next if you've read one arc you've basically read them all, they got repetitive and quite frankly boring rather quickly.

At the moment my brain is not allowing me to revisit the other minor and or major reasons as to why we disliked this novel so much. So I'm just going to leave off recommending to not nosedive straight into this story unless you are new to the genre or have been so badly hurt by previous novels you got involved with that you don't mind putting up with this. <<less

Ok first I completed this book months back but I'm writing a review now cuz I feel like I should share my experience with everyone who will read this.

  1. First of all can I just say that I love Arc 8 which is next to supermodel and I love arc 9 which is copying an apocalypse. In arc 8 I was sad that it was episodic cuz I love Ivanna. Honestly I'm sad that all the stories are episodic cuz I really want to know what happens in the future in that arc (if you understand the great lol)
    Spoiler

Ivanna is one of the participants in the next top supermodel show and she hangs with Romeo (Zhou Yun Sheng) And I love her cuz she is lesbian (i am too so that's why plus she's just my type) and she is not like the other girl participants!! Plus she keeps trying to put Gustav (ML) and Romeo (MC) together!

    [collapse]
  2. Next about the MC and ML. There are certain traits that the ML has through which you can identify him. The MC looks super cute and feminine but then again they said not to judge the book by its cover. The MC is like a monster (but I love him anyway). ML always forgets their previous love life but always finds the MC no matter what.
  3. Ok to those all who said that MC uses the system to modify himself, lets be honest y'all YOU WOULD TOO!! If you had a system that could make you look gorgeous then you too would change yourself so don't point at the MC.
  4. This story is my guilty pleasure. Nothing to read one a Sunday night? Don't worry just pick up one arc (your favourite if there is one. There must be. I'm bias towards arc 8) get comfy with snacks and read. Since they are episodic they are short and it's amazing and nice they are independent even if you chose to read chapter 4 without reading chapter 1, 2, 3 you would still understand.
  5. I love the way MC uses his knowledge of thousands of years of being a villain and skills he learned to make his revenge. If you read this let me tell you, You won't like any other face slapping story until it surpasses this. I tried reading the other face slapping stories but they don't give me the thrills anymore.
  6. Romance vise it's really good. Listen there is not a lot of smut so if you are here for that well.............. don't go I'm sure you'll stay for the plot. The ML is cold hearted but loves the MC. (If I say it's nothing new. It happens in all BLs) And the MC is cold hearted too but loves the ML (again happens in almost all Bls). But still romance is top notch!! Each life ML has a different character personality and I love that!! Like it's not fixed but the soul is still the same. That concept.... I like it.
Now finally this romance comes in 3rd in my list cuz i'll be completely honest I still love Mo Dao Zu Shi too much to give any other novel the 1st place instead of it and The Earth is Online comes 2nd. So yea 3rd place is good. It might change in the future but all I know is that future is not anytime soon.

This was the first, as in the first QT BL Novel I read and this is the novel that opened me to a lots of genres ex. Transmigration, Rebirth, Interstellar and manh more!

This is the cup of my tea, like muah! Thank you author for making this story! Thank you translator for translating this story!

Before reading this if you told me I will be a sucker for BL Webnovels I wouldn't have believe you. Anyways let's talk about the book and the plot.

First of all! The characters, I love ZYS.... more>> He was not whiny nor the type of person who hesitates, now whenever I read novels I like calm protagonists, blame this book for setting my standards that way. Then ML he was possessive, of course, the cliche type, but I don't really find myself cringing over him, it was like he was the king of possesiveness (I'm just bias to this book because it's my first bl qt novel and my fave qt book all the time)
Spoiler

the Lord God also, like when I read that part I was like, I didn't expect that he/she was only a PROGRAM/COMPUTER/ROBOT?Idk what to call him/her.

[collapse]

Second! The plot for each and every world, it's interesting! Like interesting! Not the type to be repeated, no similarities, new, as in new! I also like the genres introduced I was really shocked to read interstellar for the first time. I can't help but reread it once in a while, it's unforgettable.

Third! The writing! Although it's mainly because of the translators, It was really great! Really really great! Quality is guaranteed.

Overall 5/5 stars. It was greaat super greaat. With spicy scenes huehuehue.

P.s do read, it was really great! This book is *chefs kiss* <<less

Worth the hype. Not every arc is gold but damn are they fun. MC and ML are op, so if that isn’t your cup of tea, don’t bother reading... but if you want a lot of face slapping with an over arching romance, this is great. Also the MC and ML are completely crazy for each other but it’s so funny when the MC can’t recognize the ML right away.

idk man, it’s good and addictive, read it.

This was a pretty decent novel and I can understand the hype. Unfortunately, I read it after reading Don't Pick Up Boyfriends From The tr*sh Bin, which raised the standards for all QT novels I've read.

The main characters are smart but sometimes they're just too perfect. Additionally, the pacing is a little strange. Some of the arcs are quite long, some are short, sometimes the climax is rushed, it's all over the place. There were a lot of arcs that were almost non-contributory and cringe worthy.

Quickly Wear The Face of the Devil aka FOD is an All-In-One BL novel that can sate your hunger in whatever genre, in whatever aspect.

(Spoiler-free Review)

Characters:
— The MC, Zhou Yun Sheng, is a genius. For readers who don't like dumb and weak characters, ZYS is for you. No matter what character he adapts, he's all so lovable. Really, if I'm going to rank him in my Most Favourite Protagonists List, he'll belong in the Top 5.
— The ML transcended my expectations and ideals. He's the most supportive leading character I know. *Cries* He is the boyfriend I wish I have.
— The other characters— the dynamic worlds' protagonists and supporting characters— were mostly three-dimensionally created. They have depth, feelings, internal conflicts, realizations, and have reasons behind their actions— most novels don't have these characteristics but FOD successfully delivered us their personalities justified by events. However, some interesting supporting characters just suddenly disappeared and their fates were not narrated, leaving me hanging.

Plot:
— This is a world-hopping novel— meaning, each world has corresponding genre (modern, ancient, apocalypse, xianxia, entertainment etc.). Each world has its own twists and conflicts that are really engaging. I admit, QWTFOTD has a lot of "fan-service" and is predictable but the characters, schemes, and romance are all interesting and entertaining.
— The plot follows ZYS who was swallowed by a system, reincarnated as a villain in every world, until he broke free from the system's grasp. From then on, although he was still being reincarnated as a cannon fodder each time, he can now do whatever he wants and destroy the fate of each world's protagonists.
— Plus, plus, plus, throughout my reading, I didn't perceive any obvious plotholes.

Narration:
— Top-notch. The imageries are amazing. The feelings are all creatively conveyed and narrated.
— Also, I personally like it how the author described the ML whenever he lust ZYS. Hahahahah!

Translation:
— The best. Idioms, imageries, and other word-plays aren't lost in the translation. The beauty of Chinese literature was retained while maintaining its readability to non-Chinese readers, like me.
— Notes are also provided for better understanding.

Overall, I recommend this novel. This is not just a masterpiece, but a collection of masterpieces.

Note: Needs good reading comprehension when reading this.

I honestly don't like this after my first read. When I reread it, I became fond and fell inlove with it! Of course there are downsides tho, like MC is so OP that he doesn't struggle, the ML also is such a huge thigh to hug. Not many struggles for the MC and ML. There is also not much character development both MC and ML. But what made me love it is that the revenge and face-slapping is so satisfying that I reread and reread some arcs (there are arcs... more>> that I don't like that much). It is really the revenge that had me very satisfied! I also admired the knowledge of the author, it's obvious that she did thorough research on every arc and occupation, it may not be perfect but you can really see the knowledge and information that is put in the novel.

Although this not a perfect novel, I still rated it 5 because it really satisfied me. I can reread some random arc when I want to read revenge stories but can't find more satisfying than this. <<less

10/03/19 Update: I've been following all the extras, and I don't recommend you read them unless you feel like spoiling the good impression established by the main story. The extras are all pretty distasteful (maybe not the alternate arc so much) and there are times I question if they're written by someone else.

——————————-

Original Review:

... more>> If you got curious and ended up here because somebody referenced QWTFOTD or FOD in a review for some other BL story, there's a reason why this work is treated as the golden standard.

QWTOFTD plays many tropes straight, but it plays them damn well. If you're looking for a stress-free journey that'll keep you entertained, look no further. The author makes it very clear what the focal points are: this is a hardcore romance with themes of free will and redemption.

You're dropped into the story at a major crux in MC's journey, skills already accumulated and honed to perfection, knowledge boundless. His OPness, however, doesn't wear down the story but instead sets the foundation for building some very fun environments where you watch how this hacker manipulates his way through each one. While he does this to essentially upset the code that controls him, he makes some revelations along the way that slightly changes his initial attitude and motives.

As a fast-wear novel, it has a solid underlying narrative to string all the arcs together, but also gives each arc enough breadth and variety to make it good as standalone short stories. You'll likely end up like me & many others with favorite arcs, revisiting them as one would recall their favorite ice cream flavors.

It's funny, there's nothing particularly special about the MC and his partner when you extract them from their story, but they're very likeable and the author does a great job showing their compatibility and dynamic in a way that actually feels genuine, not hackneyed or forced. <<less

I enjoyed the story, but I didn’t LOVE it like many of the other reviewers. My main problems with it are:

  • I’m not a fan of the fact that in each story arc, the MC explains what went wrong in the original story. So we always start out each arc knowing the general gist of what’s going to happen, like who the “villains” are, or what they’re going to try to do, etc.
  • The MC is always perfect. He’s great at pretty much EVERYTHING - business, politics, science, engineering, hacking, painting, singing, piano, modeling, acting, cooking... you name it. Throughout the story, he never struggles with anything. He easily overcomes all obstacles and defeat his enemies with ease. I never felt any suspense or tension, which made things kind of boring since every arc is smoothly resolved.
  • The male lead is ALWAYS tall/handsome/powerful/rich - ideal husbando material. (Can you imagine a love interest that was plain-looking, and poor? That would be interesting to read about.) Idk, I guess I just wanted main characters that were more “flawed”, and least in some of the arcs.
  • The female characters were... disappointing. Nearly all major (young) female characters were evil. (Except for that one lesbian model...) Pretty much all the young women had the same characteristics of being two-faced, greedy, vain, and lusting over some dude.
Despite its... more>> flaws, it’s still an enjoyable read. <<less
