Hyperthymesia. Those with this condition can remember every detail of their lives from something as significant as the world’s turning point to something as small and as insignificant as a minor fleeting thought. They cannot forget and their thirst for knowledge allows them to be considered genius in some senses.

Legend has it that Ji Yushi was this kind of genius.

In addition, it was said that he was gay and very beautiful.

As soon as the news that he was going to support Tianqiong’s seventh squad broke out, it sent everyone buzzing.

Everyone knew that the captain of the seventh squad, Song Qinglan, was a hoodlum and deeply homophobic.

He not only relied on his super-powerful abilities to become the dark horse on the battlefield in less than two years, but he also hates it when those at the top forced a flower vase* into his squad.

Sure enough, Song Qinglan announced in front of everyone, “Useful? Us brothers are going out there working ourselves to the bone, we don’t need a little genius who can only speedread quantum waves!”

Later.

The squad was forced into a dire situation during their mission.

That beautiful little genius calmly continued, every gunfire hitting the mark, his fighting power peaking.

Song Qinglan begged in front of everyone, “Adviser Ji, stay.”

In the end, he added, “I’ll work myself to the bone for you.”

*****

Ji Yushi had a secret.

He would often be awake at night, suffering from memory overload and recurring nightmares.

There was only one thing that could let him fall asleep peacefully.

And that was Song Qinglan.

It's my personal review so I hope it doesn't offend anyone😁

I had high expectations for this since the summary, reviews and the tidbits I saw in facebook made it seem an awesome book.

It has an interesting plot. But aside from that, I didn't like anything else.

... more>> The MC and ML feels flat. Aside from being both strong and smart, there isn't much. The author also always describe their appearance like beautiful eyes, long legs, and oppressive aura yada yada.

Reading it felt like I was reading a textbook. You know, like there are a lot of words and information but there isn't much emotion. I didn't experience a fluctuation of emotions that I would expect from reading a book.

I should probably have read beyond, but I couldn't force myself😅 <<less

I couldn't agree more with the 1 star review already on top here. It baffles me how many people are giving this one 5 or 4 stars and claiming it is the best book they've ever read?! To me, this book is filled with flaws, to the point that even while so close to finishing it... I just couldn't bring myself to. Main problems imo:

  1. There's no chemistry between the MC and ML. Everything about their journey to knowing (?) each other and falling in love seems forced and vapid. Their personalities aren't compelling in the sense they, themselves, as characters, aren't well-fleshed out either. MC has one single goal throughout the story, but what about the ML? He's just *there* until he falls in love, supposedly.
  2. Friends? Family? Other characters are forgettable, barely entertaining. Also, their whole personality seems to center around to how they perceive the relationship between the MC and ML.
  3. The core concept of the system had potential but it isn't handled well. The missions start ambitious but then are solved quite abruptly and without much explanation or lasting consequences.
I could go on but honestly, this was the first danmei I'm highly disappointed with. I genuinely thought I was going to enjoy it lots as I loved, loved, l o v e d qqgk and can ci pin... more>> but, yeah... sadly not the case. <<less

Amazing. Lovely. Great translations.

10 out of 5 stars.

A perfect balance of romance, mistery, comedy, and heart-warming moments.

... more>> Everything was planned out nicely. Not a case like adding some things to make the plot keep going.

Those 106 chapters might seem too few, but it's just the right amount. Each chapter is compact and necessary for the story's development.

** MC and ML **

Don't get distracted by the novel's description. ML IS NOT a loyal dog. The story is not as light-hearted as the description implied.

Actually, I can't relate much to MC and ML. In my case, I read the story like one watching someone else (a bystander. Usually I try being in MC's shoes). Maybe because MC has that illness that make him can't forget. Or maybe because the author's writting style.

The thing that crossed my mind about MC and ML's relationship is rather than saying they are perfect for each other, I think the word 'chemistry' is truer. Chemistry, then love. They have chemistry (attract each other - not just by face value) and really love each other. Not just a mere chemistry. Perfect doesn't always mean they have chemistry and/or love each other.

Another thing, their characters are real, more down-to-earth. It's not the loyal dog type, or the innocent/naive type, or black-belly without reasons type, or domineering CEO/tyrant type, etc. Theirs are a combination of some characters type, thus create a more real, more 3D protagonists (I have realized it's hard to find (BL) novels which have protagonist (s) with 3D character).

Okay, why I talk so much about their romance? It's not even the main plot! 😅 Anyway, the author inserted their sparks and progress (of romance) quite seamlessly in between their (brain-wrecking and terrifying: in term of getting lost and can't come back) missions.

** PLOT **

Kinda heavy. Serious. Not a fluffy romance.

Definitely brain-wrecking: even after MC put all the cards in front of you, you still need to process it to understand. Process, as in you might need to recall what happened from the very first chapter of the arc a few times. So, some of you might not like this novel because of it.

Other than that, I truly cannot say much. Really, it's definitely a whole lot amazing if you don't search any spoilers.

The author and translator gave a side note about spoilers decreasing your reading experience for this novel.

As a reader who has read this novel (without spoiler), I agree 100x with them.

All in all, this book definitely goes to my re-read list! <<less

finally another novel that has instances which got me hooked just like EO, GUEE, STTS,

FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCROLLING THROUGH COMMENTS- WHAT YOU DOIN??.. GO, GO, READ IT ALREADY.

why you should read this novel? Ans- independent, smart, likeable MC. Balance romantic development [there is not much romance and is rather wrapped up in few chapters but you could feel the sparks from the beginning]. Good translation. Well written plot. Information and theories that are shoved to the brain, makes me feel kinda amazingly dumb.. Hahaha.. Not so over-bearing ML.... more>> The mysteries are on points and unpredictable.

What I don't like about the novel? Ans- Short, the novel felt so short I wanted to read more instances. Although the theories behind the instances were explained neatly, for me, maybe I am too dumb, it felt I was understanding everything yet at the same time it felt as if I was not understanding anything.

Would recommend? Ans- YES.. YES.. YES.. DEFINITELY.

GOOD READ. <<less

Super interesting to read: Romance, action and sci-fi each fits perfectly in the plot without flaws.

-The MC, ML and other comerades are all super-likable, they eventually grow attached to each other and us readers with them, tragedy and comedy mix up in a conglomerate of emotion that will make you addicted.

-It's easy to read and understand even tought it involves complicated theories, super-enjoyable and I love the writing style.

Recommend it to all BL readers, however it would be a loss to miss it only because of the LGBT content, after... more>> all this is much more then just a "Yaoi novel". <<less

This novel gets a cute 2.8 stars for me. Not that great, but it is good.

I like the ML; he has a personality that's actually realistic. Not too boring and bland.

The MC is powerful but not overpowered, nice guy, I like him. The author really nailed it with the characters.

So what's my issue? Author over sexualized the main couple. Also, I don't like futuristic sci-fi novels. I don't hate them, I just hate the mistakes and weird "futuristic" scenarios and devices the writers have to come up with. But, that... more>> alone doesn't qualify to bring this novel down. Infact I still chose to give it a chance inspite. The first 2-3 chapters weren't that cachy, I'm sure many people have dropped off there. But it really does get so interesting after that; page turner fr fr.

However the repetitions get on your nerves with time. The mysteries that aren't so mysterious are also a mood killer. The circumstances under which the MC and ML get closer could've happened with any of the other characters; so I don't find our couple's chemistry special. The novel might get boring, the MC will stop making sense maybe once or twice, the ML's logic might also stagger here and there...

Otherwise it's a great work. Thanks author 👍🏾 I'm sure future books will be better. <<less

Because the summary focused on the romance aspect, I stayed away from this novel for the longest time. Seriously! It took me several months to decide to finally read it... Mainly because I wasn't sure what to expect LOLOL, which is probably purposefully done, the author likes their mystery and suspense. But, back to the main point—the main premise. This is set in a sci-fi universe where time travel is a thing. The MC (Ji Yushi) and ML (Song Qinglan) are basically the human version of Time Lords (Doctor Who... more>> reference!) One is a 'Recorder' that observes the timeline silently, while the other is a 'Guardian' that protects the timeline from unexpected troubles. The story begins when Recorder!MC is asked to participate in a mission with Guardian!ML's squad. Then, what starts off as a regular mission becomes a complete mess!

Lots of time travel shenanigans in this one! When I first found Mist, it was during my Zombie Apocalypse novels spree (it came up as a recommended). But I passed on it because of the tags being weird. Now I understand that the Zombie Apocalypse isn't really the focus. This is definitely more of an infinite flow kind of novel. Where the characters must survive through seemingly impossible instances that challenged their very life and death. I can't say too much without spoiling, so I'll stop there~ But this is definitely an excellent read and I recommend that you try it out if you're still hesitating like I was in the past!

The characters are very well written, and the overall development of the plot was very satisfying. The author is great at tying everything together, and the world that they created was 1000000% interesting. OH—-The story is heavy in action and suspense (not a horror, but it was a bit creepy at times), and it's kinda impossible to put down as a result lolol! So if you're going read this, I recommend doing so when you have the time to read it in one or two bursts~

CHARACTERS: 10/10

Lovely, complex characters! There's a bit of a psychological twist to this novel so character development was definitely strong. Outside of that though, the characters (both the main squad and the more obscure side characters) were all very memorable.

Ji Yushi (MC)

A cat shou! He's cold and distant on the outside but quite soft and naive under all of his layers. His past heavily affected his development. This and his inability to forget places quite a big burden on him.

Song Qinglan (ML)

Straight-guy type~ Rouge-ish but a very good captain. His mentality is very strong and his physical strength is at the very top! He's also quite intelligent. His wit matches perfectly with the MC's pettiness and creates great chemistry between the two.

ROMANCE: 9.5/10

From the summary, it sounds like a failed unrequited love kind of development LOLOL. Especially with the last bit about the "secret". In truth, the development is quite natural~ They develop slowly from being pettily antagonistic against each other to stuck at the hips throughout the different instances. It's a very fun road, and my favorite enemies-to-lovers kind of dynamic.

SETTING: 10/10

Great setting! I don't understand most of the time travel stuff, but the author does a great job painting an exciting picture despite my lack of deeper understanding. The world is very detailed, and the different instances were all unique and engaging in their own ways. All in all? While this was far from what I was initially expecting, I found myself loving the novel regardless. Which is rare for me.

PLOT: 9/10

This is a high tension kind of plot! There were one or two times were I felt like things dragged a bit. But also several times were I wish there could have been more content or, even, more instances T.T I digress! The character development goes hand in hand with the external conflicts, which is nice. Can't say too much cause it would spoil things, but the heavy action, which I usually don't like, was so well done here that I could only concede defeat.

RATING: 4.81/5

The NU rating for this is well deserved! I was a bit skeptical of it despite the rating because I really didn't know what to expect, now that I've read it, I can't help but curse my old self for not braving up and reading it sooner lol. <<less

OH MY FREAKING GOD THIS BOOK IS SOOOOOO GOOD!!! Literally obsessed. I haven't read many sci-fi danmei's with mosh of them being historical themed, but this was AMAZING! I'm literally so glad I picked this up. Here are some of the things I loved and some things you should know before reading.

1. This is sci-fi, specifically time-travel related. In its nature because of the manipulation of time some parts might be a bit confusing. However, do not let that discourage you! KK translates does a GODLY job at translating this... more>> book to where you don't even have to reread some of the parts because its translated so well, also her writing style is immaculate. 10/10 translation.

2. The book is more plot-heavy. There is romance, but its a slowburn (ish? Once they get together everything goes very fast😳 but it takes a while to get there). The plot is so interesting and I've never had a moment where I was "bored" like some of these other comments are saying (not discrediting them, I just haven't felt that way). 9.7/10 plot.

3. Like I said earlier, the romance is there but its a slow burn. Despite the stoic nature of the MC, they have a lot of cute moments. In terms of s*xual content (😏) there is some, but most of it is implied. There is only one chapter where its the whole smut thing. I believe the chapters are around 84/85, 100-ish, and the 3 extras (Not all the xtras but I think maybe the 1st and 2nd, I forgot tho). You can skip the chapters if you don't want to read them, there isn't too much plot stuff there. That being said, the whole story doesn't revolve around them having s*x or have a p*rn-no-plot thing. Even if you like smut, its there if you want it and you can skip if you don't :). Romance 8.5/10

4. Language: this part might be a bit subjective but throughout the book there is constant mention of the 7th squad/the captain/the male lead being homophobic. In fact I think its in the summary thing here too. The word "homophobic" is used very lightly in this book, to the point that none of the main or side characters are actually homophobic, they're just straight. Also, the term "bent" may be used to describe someone who was "turned gay" (lol its not how it works but ok). You'll hear a lot of it be referred to at the end when the MC and the ML are together. Idk if that will bother some people/make them uncomfortable, but I thought it was pretty weird.

4. I love how the main characters aren't overbearing. One isn't there just to make the other on look good. They are complete opposites but they look so good together. They actually make mistakes and aren't just perfect. And I love their dynamic: 9/10 Main Characters

5. The side characters are also awesome. Again, they arent just there to make the main characters look good. Every single character on the 7th squad has they own quirks and personalities and are such goofballs together. They squad dynamic is so funny sometimes especially during the MC/ML confession. They're all great, and I didn't have too much trouble remembering their names because the book doesn't shove 50 characters in your face and expect you to remember then all on day 1. 11/10 side characters.

Setting: Changes all the time. They're time travelers lol.

Scaryness rating: 5/10. Nothing disturbing to read, I just find zombies creepy and I happened to read all the mildly creepy things at night at 12 am.

Book length: this book is pretty short compared to other danmeis, only 106 chapters, so it wont take you forever+100 years to finish this. I liked the length and finished the book in around 3 days (binge read it tho).

Ok I think that's it. Hopefully I can edit this comment and add more if I remember stuff.

Overall, I highly recommend you read this, as this book is mind blowing with plot twists and turns and the way the author manipulated time here is incredible. If you want to read it in English there's KK Translations and Travis Translations. I read the KK one tho. <<less

After reading part way through the novel two times now, I always get bored. I think this is another case of the novel being mostly ruined for me when the MC is a 'weak delicate flower' type but actually 'strong and intelligent'. It feels forced. Like, the MC shines and functions sometimes, but other times he's weak so the ML can show his 'alpha strong' side. The MC's stated disability of remembering everything he sees only actually hampers him sometimes. Most of the time it just makes him OP.

The... more>> first arc was quite enjoyable, but I felt like the following arcs were less so. The end of each arc is just things spiraling out of control to the point I don't know what's even going on anymore until it somehow works out with a last ditch effort. The cast of side characters was pretty well developed, I liked them.

There was also this very cool plot line that I was looking forward to that disappointed me:
Spoiler

The reason the MC was going on all the time travel missions was to eventually get permission to go to a certain time period. Once there he wanted to change the past (which is what you AREN'T supposed to do) to prevent the death of someone. Well lo and behold after a couple missions with ML, ML figures out MC's plan. And the climax of this is just ML saying 'please don't put yourself at risk and carry out that plan' and MC is just like 'okay I won't since you asked so nicely'. Lel. I just think it would have been cooler if MC started his plan and the ML snuck into the same timeline to stop him. Anyway...

[collapse]

Sigh. I have an extreme bias towards the 'weak and fragile looking but sometimes strong MC types'. I do admit that it's better than the MC only having a pretty face while being dumb and useless (which is also common). BUT. This 'fragile looking but strong' has just been overdone to heck in BL so I have a very low tolerance for it. It works like this: the author wants to make the MC slender, pretty, and super white so it fits the majority's aesthetic (at least I assume the majority of you readers prefer this??) while occasionally showing off their genius intellect so they don't seem useless. But what I think is different! I think the author should just make the MC manly/handsome if it fits the setting. In this novel, the setting is often high tension action and combat. The author should've just made the MC more manly or even give him a NORMAL man's physique, rather than a "delicate flower" physique-- then I wouldn't feel like the MC is so out of place. The ML can still be protective even if the author doesn't describe the MC's trembling lashes and slender weak body type, you know?

Another thing is the repetition. The MC's pretty-flower stereotype wouldn't bother me as much if the author didn't constantly keep using the same descriptions of how beautiful/handsome the MC and ML are (which another review already discussed). Please, tell me what the characters think, what they're doing and why--have character interactions--instead of describing their appearances time and time again!

Overall, the plot and characters are decently written, but feels mediocre compared to some of my favorite novels, and it has enough tropes I dislike that I don't think I'll ever finish reading it. <<less

Mind-blowing world-building. Seriously, take some notes to help you along the way or just be really careful while reading dates, and descriptions of settings.

The concepts of time, space, memory, emotions, and existence are pillars of this novel. I've never seen a danmei novel incorporating such elements to such an extent. The author must have been embedded in this stuff IRL or done tons of research.

This novel is full of little and big mysteries and the amount of plot twists is just right. The author really had this story down spat... more>> in all its aspects: plot development, world-building, characterization, mystery, horror, thriller, romance. This novel is clearly a product of deep love and dedication and thank goodness it passed only through one set of hands meaning the translation is consistent and clean.

Main cast of characters is badass and hilarious in equal measure. MC and ML's relationship is well-balanced like I love to see, with MC being extremely clever but also witty, funny, and at times a total dork. (Affectionately). ML is a total badass, truly the foundation of his squad and even though his lack of struggles smacks a bit of flatness, the author makes up for it with the sufficient amount of angst. The MC and ML's unwavering love, trust, and loyalty for each other was totally needed in a story where you're never sure about what is real and what is not.

I couldn't help but compare Mist with a recently read death-game novel, Global University Entrance Examination. In terms of what is probably their strongest point, the world-building, they both excel in presenting something seemingly simple (like a refraction question or a Rubik's cube) but that has a very deep, detailed, and sophisticated background/origin. Mist though has even more depth than Global Exam, the level of care and attention to details just blew me away.
Spoiler

But I must say I preferred the romance in Global Exam, although that's probably because the overall tone of the novel is angstier, while Mist offers a good-sized, very sweet respite before the end.

Amazing!

I didn't expect to like it because I'm not fun of reading novels where I need to analyze what I'm reading lol. It's not my first but I didn't read that many.

Anyway, I love it. I was bored before but when reading this I'm too focused and made my day reading this fulfilling.

All I can say was, time travel really made everything worst. Be it butterfly effect or what, in human life it become obsession.

Lesson learned: Don't regret anything. Just keep going forward and don't look back to the past mistakes, because everything is okay.

This is a mind-blowing unlimited flow novel with time travel. Highly recommend it!

This is one of the most creative and well thought-out plots I've ever read! The plot is complex and the author clearly put a lot of effort into it. The translator also provides a diagram for the first arc in case anyone gets very confused. I really enjoyed the development of the romance as the MC and ML first start out with bad impressions of each other. Another reason why I liked this novel is that the superpower... more>> that makes the MC OP is also his crutch at the same time - I like heroes with flaws.

With that said, my recommendation does come with some caveats, First, it's a slow burn with more romance later in the story - survival first! Second, time travel is complicated - there are times when the story will make you think hard. Don't get too hung up if something doesn't make sense right away - it usually becomes clear later as the story moves on. Lastly, as some other reviewers pointed out, the prose is good but not amazing. Read this for the story content and not the writing quality.

And it helps to take notes especially of the date and time. <<less

MINDBLOWING!! didn't really feel like a slowburn to me but omg the novel was awesome!!!!! a must read even if u don't enjoy BL. just the plot is enough to make people stay.

just a reminder to those who have yet to read this novel: don't look at spoilers!

since everything is linked tgt, if u accidentally know something ahead of time then it plot would be less thrilling n exciting! (it will ruin your experience)

overall, the plot and romance part is a 100/10! super cute relationship and I loved how... more>> the MC and ML interacted with each other. also, I would really like to give the MC a big hug and tell him that everything will be alright <3

homophobic part

Spoiler

tbh it wasn't all that bad. I expected much worse from the synopsis but thankfully it was still in the acceptable range. the ML seemed like an a** at the start but I can totally understand why he said those things from his perspective. being the captain, he has many responsibilities and he has to make sure of his teammates safety. with the addition of the MC who seemed weak and lacking, it probably felt to him that the MC will probably be a burden to the team. however during the first arc he will quickly understand that the MC is not what he seems and the whole team will soon acknowledge his abilities and strengths. so actually during the first arc, the 'homophobic' behaviour of the team is not really observed. plus the team members aren't really homophobic at the start...? they are just a bunch of straight guys that just have bad experiences w someone who is also gay. whereas the ML is a 'deeply closeted gay' haha just joking. he probably was straight until he met the MC.

[collapse]

lastly, this novel made me feel really dumb. it was so complex and minblowing that I had to stop and repeat some parts multiple times before being able to understand what it meant or was trying to convey. really wondered how the writer wrote such an amazing novel... <<less

Read up to C13. Good read so far, but it is quite annoying how much the MC and ML are described every couple of paragraphs. For the nth time, I’ve read how the MC is soft, delicate and fair, while the ML is tall and strong. Sigh. I get it already. Another best novel that I've ever read. It's almost on par with Global Examination, the difference was just like 0.5 hehe.

Okay, let's begin my review about this novel

Plot : 10/5

I can't imagine that the plot of this story will be this great. Since the plot itself is pretty heavy, mainly about time and space which still have a lot of mystery untill now, but this story makes everything looks interesting and amazing. There is no plot hole, the answer will come along the story, so you need to make sure... more>> to read it till the end. And what amazed me more is the fact that everything was made sense like I don't confuse by the logic.

I also want to give applause for KK Translates for give us a top tier translation.

Character : 100/5

MC and ML also power or smart couple and I love both of them so much. The story itself didn't focus much on our couple since they were in a team with seven person. Everyone had their own role and no one left out. It's just perfect.

Ending : 5/5

The ending was the best, but

Spoiler

I still want to know about his father. Don't get me wrong, the story itself explain it to us. But still, at least I want him meet our MC for the last time. He already hurt so bad : (

[collapse]

Anyway, other that, It was the best ending. It's a wonderful story and worth of your time.

Notes :

That's all about my review hehehe though maybe some of you think that my review are nonsense, it's totally fine. Everything have their own preference and favorite. So, no hard feeling, This review just my opinion.

Happy Reading!! <<less

  • Very very very very well done
  • Involves lots of scientific stuff so if you don't actually like those you might not understand it
  • Anyways I am a science nerd so yeah basically I loved it
  • The 'scientific' explanation is not perfect (some kinda made me cringe) but it's good enough to not make me want to skip parts or drop the book
  • It's a difficult read, very plot heavy
  • The pacing is great, and there's never a dull moment at all

  • Love them. Love them all.
  • All characters have this distinct personality, and the mains are just so comfortable with each other it is beautiful to read
  • Also the ML is not homophobic, and neither are his teammates. The summary makes it seem like they are but they absolutely aren't.
  • The relationship of the CP was well developed and not forced, just very beautifully written.
Translations:

Great! Honestly I had no problems reading them

TL;DR:

Great novel, a must read!

STOP READING THE REVIEWS AND JUST READ THIS NOW!!! This really deserves a 5 star rating. It's so intense from beginning to end. The synopsis really doesn't capture even a third of how well-written and thrilling this story is.

The plot and characters are complex, so I sometimes had to sit with a chapter to understand the theories about time-travel/looping. Many moments actually gave me goosebumps, which doesn't happen. "Tianqiong" is like a company that protects earth by going back in time or the future to eradicate dangerous events like terrorist... more>> attacks, wars, assassinations, etc that could mess up the world. You grow attached to all the characters quickly because they are put in crazy life/death situations, it's thrilling, creepy, intellectual, romantic, and funny. <<less
