It was really interesting at start. A story about the martial king Cheonma reborn as a young master.

I won't go into details but after chapter 40, they seem to have changed the translator or similar. All the names that we've gotten used to all got competely changed. A minor case would be the MC who was previously translated as "Taesan". This was rewritten as "Byeoktaesan" which would be his full name. Still bearable though, I suppose.

The "Doctor" and "Single acupuncturist", however got translated as the korean sounding of the same... more>> words (I can only presume this to be the case). Which wouldn't be a problem if we readers all spoke Korean. But, seeing as how I don't - it sure was a problem for me.

It's hard to read a novel where everyone suddenly is called something else. I have decided to take a break from this novel until they get consistent with the names. I might update this review then. <<less

The story is interesting although there's the usual trope of a powerful man who is reincarnated as a weak guy. The method he uses to heal himself is unusual though and it causes misunderstandings. I also like that the MC is reasonable, not a cold-blooded killer who massacres just about anyone anywhere, and so far, is not an insatiable lustful guy who collects women (I really hate these type of characters). The reason why I rated this as just 3 is because of the author's way of writing. It is... more>> somehow confusing. Still, I'm willing to see how it progresses. <<less

starts out good enough, realy good, then at some point the translations got worse and worse, as if they were experimenting how low they can go in quality, and to this day it's still amazingly getting worse, maybe its just abstract art at this point, like they're challenging themselves on how incoherent they can get while still calling it a translation.

i stumbled on this novel in my reading list and recalled realy enjoying it and was happy that I had something nice to read, then on the 3rd paragraph I... more>> felt strange and after forcing myself to read to the end trying to get bits and pieces of logic, I remembered why I stopped reading. And then this rant.

the translation doesn't make this novel justice, sadly. <<less

I honestly can't tell if this is a very subpar korean wuxia novel or if the translation is truly THAT bad. Calling this a translation is almost an insult. It's so obvious that it's machine translated (or the translator has a terrible understanding of the English language) which is unfortunate because ever since coming across The Rebirth of the Heavenly Demon, I've been fascinate in Korean martial arts novels since there are so few of them... most of what we have available are the typical 'game system' KNovels.

The wordings and sentence structure is kinda weird since chapter 1 and as you go on you'll realize that it's a heavily edited MTL. It's probably best to avoid any Korean works from this translation group since MTL services are bad with Korean.

A good novel filled with an OP MC and misunderstandings.

I guess the only problem was the sudden change of translator/editor, which made it confusing halfway. The new translator is doing a good job but it feels like a mtl, basically he needs an editor.

I wanted to like this. I really tried. It’s a great premise and while the MC is pretty one-note, there are some interesting side characters.

The trouble is, the translation is so bad by chapter 20 that I can’t even tell what is going on anymore. Like, wut?? I have read better MTL fresh off of Google Translate. Hats off to the reviewers who slogged through 50 more chapters of this brain toxin. I can’t do it!

I really like this one. The story is intresting and it is entertaining to watch the change of each characters as the story progresses. The only problem I have is the translation. It suddenly change and started to use Korean expressions around ch40. It was tolerable, you can get used to it after a while. You can figure out the which character is which after a little. The real difference came to me when I reached the 70th chapter. The translation quality dropped significantly. It could use an editor or... more>> someone who could make it more understandable, because it is like they only used google translate for the whole thing and didn't even checked just put it up. I really like the story but I got so irritated by the translation that I need some rest away from the story before I can continue. <<less

A martial arts novel where the Haomun (Ignoble Clan) and the courtesans are the real protagonists and the physicians are an overall mood.
Spoiler

Just a mention of their names sometimes make me crack a smile, especially when the Godly Doctor and One-Stab Acupuncturist who went to even corrupt Uiseon and his disciple, even playing pig teammate with the Murim Lord and Black Lotus Lord when going to a Giru (pleasure house). In the end, even MC could not bear seeing Uiseon getting addicted to courtesans

[collapse]

MC is one of the chillest, most charismatic, mafia-like Cheonma amongst all murim novels I've read. You know he's a villain, but he's a damn righteous one.

If you want to read a story with a good array of characters, an inherently cool MC and a surprisingly lovely ending, then this one is a must read.

I find that this book is lacking. The only thing that is preventing me from making this 1 star is the few chuckles I have gotten from it.

The story kind of feels like if you got a story and then just removed the plot. He's going somewhere, but there isn't any substance, and even if there is it is incredibly hard to notice. The cultivation is pretty bad as well, at least that's what it's like, it's Murim I believe so they are similar to cultivators just weaker and usually... more>> have different methods, basically strong people in real life ancient China. But what I mean is that It is never explained, "heartbeats" seem to have something to do with strength, you also never know how strong someone is besides the MC saying if they are or are not. I would be fine if it was slice of life but there isn't even enough going on to call it that, it's simply an extremely repetitive story.

Overall it had potential but the plot never really starts, nor any slice of life type things. <<less

I tried to like this one I really did. I thought it was going to be something like Rebirth of The Heavenly Demon so I wanted to stick it out. But this thing is true to its name. A story about a guy living a quiet life. It is like the usual Chinese face slapping, having eyes but can't see mount, Tai. Except it is a different variety of crap, imagine someone usually opens a can of tomato paste and serves it to you like soup, as the usual CN.... more>> This novel is someone telling you they are trying to switch things up so they serve you something like toothpaste. It all just wants to make you flip the table and ask them if it's all not just paste? <<less

Its impossible to rate this novel. At best only thing other readers seem to be rating is not the novel but the translation. If there is anyone who has read the raws and wants to comment that is a review worth reading. Problem with this novel is its unreadable in the worst possible way.

Start of the novel is fine and time and effort is put in. Not only is it cleanly translated the story is unique, from my perspective at least. I don't have the best of memories, I don't... more>> remember and categorize everything without any mistakes so I will only summarize. Around chapter 30 to 50 the novel seems to slowly drop in quality. The time and effort put in is lower. At first it wasn't really possible to tell as it could have been a mistake or two; who is perfect and never makes any mistakes? I know I am not.

One of the most creative and best parts of the translation that I have never seen in any other asian translation is westernizing things that change absolutely nothing but make the novel extraordinarily reader friendly and don't create this huge gap between first time readers and long time readers. Imagine if you will, reading a novel and to remember full names of every character. Now for long time readers this isn't hard, but now imagine remember full; first name, middle name, last name of every single person you talk to. Its unreasonable and overly complicated while westernizing it for at the very least first time readers it changes absolutely nothing but the entry level of the novel and eastern novels as a whole. For that even though I am about to sh*t on this translation, I have to stop here and give a slow clap at something f*cking outstanding, from my perspective. Amazing.

Now the problem comes in at around chapter 50. What was slowly dropping in quality now is over. It doesn't get better at around chapter 50 they just give up. There are two likely explanations, first is that the editor changed a few times before they lost their editor completely. Very likely but what I believe happened is the fact that not only did they have to change editors but after they reached 50 they didn't get a new editor and translator quit. Part of this is simply by the fact that names could be understood as family name and actual name, but it is not spaced and it is just a jumble of letters. As if it was translated or copy and pasted without even an attempt of effort. There are random words that seem to have been run through a machine without even reading it like they just threw passages in machine and posted it to the translation without even reading it to fix obvious machine mistakes as far as I know machines don't translate context and just words. At 70, which I simply just skipped hoping it was just that one chapter the translation, goes full mtl or they lost some kind of free trial and just started using some really dumpster dive translation program.

tldr

Ultimately there isn't a novel here. Not one with enough to give a real rating for or bother reading. There are knee jerk reactions which I won't say I never had, but usually these are from writing. Basically if you bite the hook or not, that's all that is translated. After that the story just stops getting translated, not in reality but its not a readable state. This is coming from someone that had been recently reading what appears to be a very lightly edited mtl novel simply because it was one of my favorites. Therefore honestly can't recommend the novel as its for all intents and purpose not a novel that is readable here outside of the hook. <<less

For what it is this is a low 4 and definitely worth a read if you're into this type of story, there are better stories that do this type of op cultivator reincarnation but that shouldn't disease you from reading this eventually.

The main flaw of this story is the translation, its mlt and at 3 points the names suddenly change making it hard to keep track of whos who, but despite that you can usually tell the different characters apart by the varying personalities and the way they interact with... more>> each other, though we don't get enough political intrigue outside of fight this group because of plot contrivances.

It's actually fairly funny for the type of story, full of miss understandings and a very special variation of face slapping that will make young masters brown with rage.

once again though the translation is garbage. <<less
