Lacking a pocket dimension, power, a thigh to hug onto, and the three life advantages (money, power, and looks), he had been cautiously living in the apocalypse for ten years, getting closer to falling inside the zombie’s mouths.

Unexpectedly, he had the terrible luck, to be caught in a fight between two gangs and die, it really left people feeling disappointed. When he opened his eyes, he had returned to a decade ago, three months before the apocalypse!

Like before he still lacked an ability, an ordinary person without a pocket dimension, but he did have ten full years of experience living in the apocalypse! Even if he didn’t fight zombies, didn’t hunt monsters, he could still live a carefree farming life in the safe zone.

Find a safe house, utilise all kinds of skills from his previous life to farm in exchange for meat, and if possible, find a person to peacefully spend the rest of his life with; ordinary people had their own ordinary little pieces of happiness.

Originally believing he had picked up a beauty he returned home to prepare a golden house, but on the contrary he was the one being pushed down……someone once said, whether it is people or matters, by no means can you only look at the surface!

On top of being dull most of the time, a total absense of character development or meaningful interactions (nice side characters disappear from the picture in a snap : not die, jsut not mentionnée anymore) ... there was actually a plot... !

but it appears... on the very very las chapter !!

Needless too say that it’s barely at a synopsis stage and it only can barely be brushed through as part of the « background »

instead of repetitive gardening (permaculture anybody ?) and meat orgies (less p*rn food than another zombie... more>> bl, but still, apocalyptic barbecue is the new thing ?), there was actually potential to an excellent story : so why ? <<less

A very nice novel focused on an ordinary person living during the apocalypse. There's a little bit of action here and there, but this novel is mostly domestic. Not a lot of drama either, so it's great for those who want to take a break from drama-filled, action-packed novels for a nice laid back, slice of life story. The entire story progresses nicely. I'm just sad that it has ended (no more domestic life T_T), but it's a good ending, so this story is a worthwhile read. 5 stars for... more>> the characters, the slice of life, and the warm fuzzy feelings it gave me during the apocalypse. [Please don't judge this book with other apocalyptic novels as it is a different genre of story. This is a slice-of-life story, not drama, or action. If you must compare, compare it to other slice-of-life stories, like the Assassin Farmer.]

This story is MTL-able. <<less

The novel is great so far at chapter 16. It is hard to give a detailed review this early, but if it keeps progressing as it has, it will be an awesome read. The plot and writing is is just as good as other top rated apocalypse stories. It's just that the romance factor is BL.

Spoiler

There are not enough women due to their weakness at the beginning of the apocalypse. The writer makes the M/M bonds seem part necessity and part desire.

[collapse]

Based on the author's writing style so far, even if you do not like to read BL, you might want to give it a try. The romance is not the focus. It is more a part of the world building so far and if it gets naughty later on just skip it. The novel is worth reading.

The translation so far is excellent. Its smooth reading without mental distractions of wrong pronouns, sentence, tense, etc... I loved reading it!!!

Really enjoying this so far. The world has been well established, the MC is very cute. If you don't like OP MCs then this is the one for you. The translation is done well. I will possibly add more once we get further, but so far I'm loving the set up.

I'm bothered by many characters 'I'm not a woman' etc. Moreover, most of the time they describe women as troublesome and weak. I don't know if there are helpful or strong female characters later on the story, but I won't know that for now cause I decided to drop it. I do not hate this story rather, I like it. But yeah the misogyny bothers me and I agree with the other reviewers said that they are losing their personality. Zhang Yi become my favorite character because he is so... more>> distinct from other characters, but yeah, c u next time. <<less

Second time reading this. Couldn't finish it this time. Not sure what I saw in this novel the first time round tbh.

Definitely it had the potential to be a good novel but the misogynistic uncurrents were just not worth sitting through.

I really liked this story and didn't want it to end. The ending itself snuck up suddenly but things were wrapped up nicely. Even though it's a +250 chapter novel and some of the descriptions were overly detailed, I'm definitely glad I got the opportunity to read it.

Spoiler

MC, Luo Xun, is mature, practical, and soft hearted. ML, Yan Fei, was rescued by MC after he was betrayed. MC is an ordinary human but ML acquired metal abilities after the apocalypse.

MC wants to develop an amiable relationship with ML since his weapon of choice is a crossbow and ML's ability can create metal arrows. Even though MC was attracted to gorgeous ML, MC does not pursue ML since he is very self aware of his ordinary looking, no abilities status. ML grows attracted to MC and initiates their intimate relationship.

The plot goes on to describe the forming of their team (The Otaku Squad), living on base, farming, scavenging, acquiring cores and leveling abilities, fighting and surviving zombie attacks, adopting and raising children, hunting mutant animals, and developing their own base.

Yeah, there's a lot. All wrapped up with a happy ending. ☺️

Of Note: The WhiteMoon & BlackSun translation is confusing at times but it doesn't hinder the overall reading experience.

this book is a gem. Unlike the cliched apocalypse stories, our reborn MC lacks abilities, a storage pocket, money and looks, he's your average joe who simply survived a decade in the apolacyse living with his life on edge and turned bent from the lack of female species. Our MC simply wishes to live comfortably during the apocalytic era and being reborn just 3 months before 'the end', he uses his past life's knowledge to do exactly that, picking up a handsome and loyal man who unknowingly bends for the... more>> MC. Our MC isn't the typical strong type, he's more of a strategist/tactician who plans according to his knowledge of the apocalyse. With the information from his past life, a strong partner and a cooperative team, the MC and his team strives to live in comfort with self raised vegetables, delicious food, necessary home appliances and enough crystal cores for trade, etc.

i love the fact that the author was realistic with certain ideas and points in the story. The story depicts the despair on witnessing the cruelity of human nature in dark times but also shows the beauty in human bonds and the hope that keeps burning within. i loved the characters, the plot line and the interaction between the characters. This book has so much more to offer than just the story of a man trying to live his life in the apocalypse. I hope everyone can enjoy this as much as I did. Happy reading. ✨✨ not a spoiler but rather a rant

Spoiler

the MC and ML arent people who are trying to save humanity and the likes, rather they are people who live to enjoy their lives even during the worst times. Just because the MC is reborn doesnt make him for telling people about the future and also hoarding + wanting to keep certain information a secret during an apocalypse is justified. Our MC really does his best to try to help the survivors at least to the best of his abilities. Humans are selfish and that applies to everyone, the MC and ML arent holy mothers so I hope everyone can understand their actions and not judge them as per your expectattions

One of my most favourite story! This is slice of life so there's great details in EVERYTHING! Satisfying my craving for a great story. Although the romance is not much but the family feeling is strongly there. Also very realistic depiction of what's gonna happen when u rely on s*upid and selfish ppl to b ur leader, the base is bound to b hard for normal ppl. I'm so often frustrated with the ppl who hve the power in the base, sad even until the end there's no retribution for... more>> their selfishness.

My complaint would be the ending. Feel like the last chapter suddenly rush. I swear the author could hve wrote another 100 chapters there's so many stuff going on in the last chapter. Maybe author is tired he/she did say this is the longest story he write. More than 1mil Chinese words.

And the translation. It's not bad but it skip A LOT. Probably if this whole novel is 1mil words the translation is only 800k words. Yeah the translator skip a lot. I recommend to read on google translate. <<less

4.5/5*

Really loved this story! I binged it in 2 days.

This was one of my first apocalypse stories and after that I was hooked.

... more>> These apocalypse stories are so much like those from poor to rich farming stories. They start with nothing, but slowly they build their own success again. Super satisfying like chicken soup for the soul.

MC was normal and smart. Great planner and leader. ML was very OP.

I loved the 2nd couple!! The crazy, but beautiful surgeon was such super hot tsundere shou wahaha. I almost liked him more than ML.

My only complaint about this story is that after 2/3 orso there were very little interactions or dialogues. The writing style turned more into an elaborate summary/journal how they continue to build their base. I really missed the funny interactions and bickerings between all the characters. <<less

Base Building + Farming + Ragtag group trying to survive

If youre looking for a base builing zombie apocalypse novel this is actually really good, especially if you want to read about the details of ordinary survival, and dont care too much about shounen manga type fight scenes.

Spoilers ahead!

Romance is a bit lacking, however!, While I dont normally like early romance, since its always an excuse to get the 2 main characters together and papapa-ing, I actually think it worked well for this. Dont get me wrong, the characters have no... more>> chemistry, the ML randomly falls inlove bec MC is his impromptu nurse, and MC gives off lecherous old man vibes with how lustful he is of MLs appearance (+ the fact that he didnt actually love ML and only agreed to a relationship bec he didnt want to be alone, which is fair but romance bro?). BUT I think the pairing doesnt actually detriment from the story, having an ability user be the brawn to his brains so early in the story definitely moves it along faster and more clearly than it would have if it were some drawn out romance (eg: our overbearing ML ambushing MC while hes just trying to build his base and farm while having literally no reason to for hundreds of chapters on end).

On that note, ML is sooo boring. He has no depth, aside from the whole "i never got love because im rich so now that MC has shown me basic hospitality I will fall inlove" plot point, he doesnt actually have any personality traits. The most unique thing he ever does is 'seduce' MC by cuddling after hes fallen asleep and walking out of the bathroom with only a towel.

MC is almost, equally as boring, except he has actual aspirations and goals.

Someone pointed this out in their review as well but this is one of the few novels where being reborn actually effects the story. Of course theres novels with so and so going "i will get revenge hahahah!" or "now I know to not trust [insert list]" or even "i just want to live peacefully this time", but none of these have as much of an impact as MC literally making his whole pre-Apocalypse + during apocalypse plans on what he learned during his first round. Everything he does is with what he learned, his skills, his knowledge, his acquaintances. Heck even his dog is because of his first life.

speaking of, I really wish they had expanded on his apocalypse survival blog - it could lead to so many interesting things if they didnt pass it off as just a thing for a "and thats why these 5 college students survived" moment.

Overall its worth a read if youre into what is basically a summary of our MCs apocalypse survival blog + some character interaction and a few mentions of killing zombies. <<less

Definitely recommend this novel if you like novels that has apocalypse and a HE,

The novel is a 10/10 for me, the writing, the plot and even the ending didn't seem to be written in rush.

The ending (230 - 258) is what I really like to reread a lot, also the novel isn't really that gruesome

I really liked this! It was a nice break from other apocalypse novels. Most of these types of novels envolve revenge or creatung a cure for the apocalypse. None of that here! It was a nice clean slice of life story.

Spoiler

And they didn't even need a cure anyway! They just defeat all the zombies to win XD

[collapse]

The first half of the story is spent in the A base and had an ok amount of action for a slice of life novel. The side charecters were developed really well as well.

The second half of the story
Spoiler

was spent making and living in there own base. The A base was kind of a$$holes and by the end most people left.

[collapse]

The ending was slow and had a nice feel to it. Over all really nice story to read if you want some warmth in your life.

P.s. Someone said there arent really that many girls but the ones that did show up the MC literally said were known as super strong in his last life?? Also they have some pretty good chemistry going on over all. <<less

Not my favorite but definitely liked it a lot. Although kinda draggy in some chapters halfway of the book, it still works well.

It's quite similar to some other BL apocalypse that I read but it's ok since I'm currently into this type of story and it still has an element that makes it different.

The base in this story is full of motherf*ckers. Like seriously. It's pretty obvious what you'll see in a base with poor governance because of power hungry and selfish leaders. And honestly if apocalypse do happen in... more>> my country, this will be likely the situation lol.

I love their team construction with half ordinary and half ability users, because it shows that even ordinary people can be strong and adaptable in the apocalypse. They really live up to the title of the novel, being an otaku. They do everything they can to live comfortably with their own sustainance without being high profile. They don't play hero, instead focus on how to protect themselves while maintaining their humility.

The occasional actions too are done quite good because of their great teamwork and not overly or under written.

Spoiler

I frickin love it when they earn huge pets hahaha. Their heart are so soft towards this mutant animals. Aside from Puppy they earn 2 more silly giant dogs and also 2 majestic eagles. Plus baby boy, who is actually Yan Fei's half brother that ended up being their son lololol.

[collapse]

Spoiler

And in the end when people from the outer wall finally got tired of the base leaders' bullshits then choose to wander around instead. Like who wouldn't? Inner wall people choose to abandon them just because they are ordinary or won't submit to their bullshits when zombies invade again. Then they even live freely and comfortable outside the base rather than inside like our Otaku Squad. They even form an alliance of scattered teams and all of them hated the A-city base and outcasted them whenever there's exchange fair lol. And all of those scattered teams are human enough to be in peaceful relationship with each other without robbing or killing each other, instead choose to coexist in a friendly manner.

[collapse]

I almost forgot about the clear result of MC's rebirth that causes major butterfly effect even with just little changes in the beginning of the apocalypse that you can observe as the story goes on. Likely the 5 students and ML are the major catalyst of the butterfly effect. <<less

Good for a slice of life. I wasn't in the mood for it at first pass, ended up stopping around c33. Came back to it half a year later and found it a relaxing read.

Outside of some of the usual China vibes around gay relationships (aka being the bottom=embarrassing, people choosing to be gay b/c lack of options) it's a good read. Those vibes are small in number and easily ignored.

Easy to get invested in later sequences. Yes a bit of it is formulaic, because challenges in apocalypse settings... more>> aren't that unique, but political undercurrents and team composition mean resolving those challenges is a refreshing thing to read.

Ends technically closed, but wish it was longer.

Probably won't reread within a year.

If youh enjoy reading stories that focuses on slice of life or stable life, then this is the right one for you! THIS IS JUST PERFECTION.

The weiting is good, the plot is good, the characters are good, the floe is good, the romance is perfect. All in all this is a worthy and highly recommended read.

This is actually my first time reading a novel with a post-apocalyptic setting because I didn't like those setting at first but I'm really glad that this one was my first read of it.... more>> So worthwhile, I enjoy every part of it.

Luo Xun hands down has to be my favorite and the best character for me. Definitely one of my favorite MC.

IN CONCLUSION, GO READ IT!!! <<less

I loved the novel. An apocalyptic themed one but the author wrote it in an enjoyable manner. The archs were not too overwhelming and their mudane activities were engaging to read. I also appreciate that their comrades had their own happy endings. There were no betrayals within their group since they just want to improved the quality their lives. No power struggle within the group but the author was so capable in showcasing the brains and brawns of our MC. His not overpowered and did not have any overwhelming golden... more>> fingers but was able to live his life to the fullest by appreciating the things and people around him. Moreover, our ML may have superpowers but he did not overshadow our MC. They instead complement each other.

Also the translation may not be perfect but it did not take away the essence of the story. Smart readers should be able to fill the blanks and make auto corrections on those very minor inconsistencies. Thank you to the author for this wonderful novel and the translator for a job well done. <<less

If you are looking for an adventure, filled with zombie apocalyptic world and romance, this is not for you. Though the world building is very specific and I could actually imagine in my mind the apocalyptic world, the protagonist is not looking for trouble, especially with his rebirth, he goes all out preparing for the apocalypse and just tries to survive as a hermit.

I like the MC, he is smart, sensible, honest, independent and strong. He doesn't need ML but its a welcomed partnership, I feel. But their romance is... more>> a subplot, mainly the novel focuses on farming, renovations, building, and raising livestock.
Spoiler

Wished that the supergroups that the MC has mentioned, like the whole girl group team who just mu*ders men left and right, like I like that the decreasing number of women in this world got together to keep themselves strong and safe. Just interesting

[collapse]

The translation is good, but sometimes confusing with the misspelling, or wrong pronouns and other stuff unedited. But I appreciate the mtl translator, still made the whole novel interesting and the plot didn't get lost on me.

I love the ending, it was the perfect ending I believe, for their world, it makes sense and though a lot of questions are not answered because the author made it seem that... we weren't suppose to know or understand everything and that is part of the outside world, I was not mad about being left clueless at times. The focus is on MC and how he survives, its like a Day in the Life of a Prepared Otaku in a Zombie Apocalyptic world. <<less
