From classmates to brother and sister, living under the same roof.

After his father’s remarriage, Asamura Yuuta ends up getting a new stepsister, coincidentally the number one beauty of the school year, Ayase Saki. Having learned important values when it comes to man-woman relationships through the previous ones of their parents, they promise each other not to be too close, not to be too opposing, and to merely keep a vague and comfortable distance.

On one hand, Saki, who has worked in solitude for the sake of her family, doesn’t know how to properly rely on others, whereas Yuta is unsure of how to really treat her. Standing on fairly equal ground, these two slowly learn the comfortable sensation of living together.

Their relationship slowly evolves from being strangers the more the days pass. Eventually, this could end up in a story about love for all we know.

I love this series. The characters are considerate and conscious for one another in order to not overstep any boundaries. Both are trying to get used to living with each other. I have high hopes for this series. MC has a brain and FMC ain't annoying in any way. I also recommend watching the Visual Novel ver. On YouTube, though its not subbed buf with enough weab knowledge you may understand a thing or two.

At first, it is quite interesting as characters seem to be more mature than in other novels. However, that fact makes the story dry, boring and hard tp understand sometime.

The progress is too slow in v7, drive me crazy as I have to skim tens of thousands of words and receive bulls*** at the end.

The personalities of the characters are all enjoyable to read about, character development was present, and I really enjoyed the drama arcs. Vol. 4's philosophy really hit home for me as well, and I'd recommend this book for anyone who comes across it. While I'm not an avid fan of 'in*est', I don't mind as long as the story is good, plus, the MC and fMC aren't blood-related, and you know how the saying goes.

Very lovely and enjoyable read.

This novel is great and pretty realistic and actually shows highschoolers having problems with their relationships instead of sugarcoating it. Being a highschooler means your top priority is studies and this novel actually shows emphasis on that. The main characters are studios and adjust their lives accordingly to keep their studies their priority (which again is very realistic).

The romance is slow but not by any means is it not enjoyable. The novel has it fair share of fluff.

The main characters are very likable both have pasts... more>> that shaped their personalities but after meeting each other they changed (not dramatically but slowly). The side characters are interesting too.

The overly detailed explanation of food that the main lead eat at dinner is something I found annoying at first but later it became kinda funny.

Overall it is a must must read. Truly one of a kind and also quite possibly the best Slice of life in the recent years. <<less

Gimai Seikatsu is a very calm novel, but also tense at times. This is no comedy fan-service. The novel instead presents a fairly realistic scenario for the trope "high-schooler gets a step-sister", while still being extremely entertaining, and a slow burn romance.

Both characters are extremely serious and studious. The slice of life is dominant. They will often sit down during dinner to talk about food or other random topics. Also this is a story where the parents exist (yes!), and they play an important role.
As for the supporting characters,... more>> they are more on the eccentric part. This makes a nice contrast and allows a good touch of comedy.

Of course, it still contains its fair share of spice, which is what you're ultimately here for. No spoils!

I felt myself being fully embraced by the story with volume 4 onward, when the POV started to switch between both the male and the female protagonists. This is when the heroine becomes a true character in my opinion.

At one point I became very frustrated by the fact that the characters were overly passive during the time skips between the volumes (1+ month each time).
Seriously, why was I so frustrated? And the answer? I was profoundly invested in the story that the tiniest thing I considered a flaw created so much emotion in me. Gimai Seikatsu is a masterpiece.

Also... please take a look at the illustrations! The artist is incredibly talented, and the heroine is absolutely stunning! <<less

A satisfying read.

The story about two similar people becoming family and their interactions and changing relationships is surprisingly entertaining. Unlike most LN, the language is much more sophisticated, but not very complicated. The timeline for each volume is also very short. The storytelling from both Male and Female MCs POVs gives a much clearer picture for the readers about each event and the characters' thoughts. The main characters' interactions with each other and those around them, and their influence on them, which leads to their character growth, is very much... more>> entertaining to read.

I would recommend this novel to just about anyone who wants a recommendation on a romance, slice-of-life, coming-of-age novel. <<less

Where do I start? As a local romance light novel enthusiast I love these kind of books! I even signed up to this website just to leave a review.

The pacing is great. It's not realistic per se but the romance seems fairly realistic, as in real life you randomly start finding you like someone suddenly. There's alot of build up but it's good because it actually leads to somewhere and has a steady increase! Most light novels that have romance in them just get stagnant and repeat the same thing... more>> over and over again until the MC confesses (typical Japanese Romance trope)

The reason I'm leaving the novel as 3 is because of the viewpoints of the author. It seems to me that the author Ghost Mikawa, has read a little too much Ayn Rand and other philosophical authors where they shove their ideologies and beliefs down your throat and base a story about it.

What this creates is that half of some volumes get filled with stuff you can absolutely skip and doesn't give any sort of development between the characters. At the very least it seems very preachy at times, at most it is absolutely unbearable. When I first observed this in the 2nd volume I thought it would be alright but it really ramps it up in volume 4.

I really liked the fountainhead, and atlas shrugged, and I could rate it a 3.5/5 because it blended well with the story but this light novel prides itself on realism. While the falling in love aspect feels real between the MC and the fMC, the characters fall flat because of this ideology and belief that the author is pushing us on.

Let me explain: all the characters are way too smart and this is due to the messages he's trying to bring along. It makes sense to make them all smart to bring out what he needs to say but the negative is that all the characters start blending into one personality. The fMC and MC are the same except for subtle differences. The fMC starts to become like yoimuri and the fMC starts meeting more like minded people. Almost all the main characters and side characters are loners, and seem to be pretty one dimensional with no real depth.

I didn't really mind the diary format to be honest because the author did it well, kind of reminded me of perks of being a wallflower and this book I had to return because I absolutely hated those books.

Maybe I'll read Story of your life by Ted Chang again if I wanted a well blended ideology/ philosophy into a book.

All in all I give this a 2.5-3/5

4.5/5 - Plot

1.5/5 - Characters

2.5/5 - Background building <<less

This one is one of the best LN in my read list. One thing tho I feel anxious about how the author ends this story, because the author press the moral quite hard so whether they sail or not is gonna cause a problem on the story (obviously if the ended up falling apart, the reader gonna flame this LN for sure) I hope the family won't tear apart just because they both prioritize their own feeling

A god tier novel- probably one of the best I've read on this site yet. A few of the other romcoms I've read were more focused on fluff, and I found myself hating the ones with drama. Most of the time its cliche, undeserving, and downright irritating. This, though; it has the drama that I despise, yet at the same time has turned it into a way to develop the characters. Translation quality doesn't disappoint, and while ... more>>

I honestly didn't enjoy Volume 1, mainly because the MC was not able to fulfill what he said he would do plus disliking what the FMC tried to do at the end of the volume, but I did enjoy Volume 2 a lot more, since he was able to help the FMC, and I can see more development in the relationship they share.

Overall, it's fine and reasonably enjoyable. A relatively slow paced slice of life with hints of romance to come but nothing concrete yet. I do like the FMC's... more>> personality and logic-heavy approach, and the MC is decent too. Semi introspective and not incompetent and a good guy overall.

Not much more to say. Side characters are fine, though they do not draw me to the series. The premise itself is fine with me too - I can stomach it since the two aren't related and were strangers until they became siblings.

Read V3 + short story, and it was fine. I do think some of the feelings are accelerating a bit quickly (two months together in verse IIRC), but I do like their dynamic, and I enjoy the day to day, slice of life slow-burn friendship/romance as well as some of the cute interactions between the two. <<less

I love how this novel, captures the realism of a teenage boy living together with a literal stranger.

First of all it's grounded, in a sense that they actually portray good human relationships, and the eventual acclimation to living together.

And as bonus, this novel has alot of pop culture references. Like how anime is treated, and how novels and reading in general is portrayed. The LOFI hip-hop in volume 2 is so meta just I basically laughed my ass off reading. The MC is basically me, at some points in his... more>> dialogue, like his thought process is just like mine, which is apparently every book nerds though process 🤣🤣.

I mean, I can relate so much to the MC and the FL. The struggles of being in contact with the opposite s*x is real. (I can relate to this is much because, I had a childhood friend who when she reached puberty was considered HOT. But she still kept coming into my room, uninvited so I had to tell her, that this not socially acceptable and I feel uncomfortable when a girl who I consider attractive goes into my room with only her home wear, basically short shorts and a very loose top.) This caused certain strains in our relationship, you know it being a girl and boy childhood friend kind of deal, like last week she went into my room with my sister because they wanted me to edit something for them, then she said to me "can I enter your room without permission now? You know like how I used to" In which I promptly replied "NO, you can enter it without my permission only if you are with my sister, but not when it's just you alone" (I don't hate her, it's just that in my culture stuff like, arranged relationships are normal, and I have always had the feeling that we are somewhat arranged because her parents and my parents force us or tease us to be together, so that's why I'm keeping distance) *I know too much info🤣🤣, just let me rant ok🤣.

I'm very picky with novels now adays and drop many titles, because I deem them as tr*sh. But this novel at least at volumes 1 and 2, provides me with such relatability and joy, that I consider one of the best novels in the (slice of life, romance genre)

Although minor issue, the author touches upon so many, things in a round about way. Like how the FL reacted to the MC seeing her panties etc. Although I agree it made some great points (even thou I don't agree with western gender theory) but it kinda ruins the experience of having a realistic, conversation when you reference so many things and issues, that normally won't arise in general conversation. But I think the author is improving, like in volume 2 the author doesn't force any forced book reference at all, and basically just touches upon things that are relatable, like study habits being improved my music (lofi hip-hop) and how advertising has invaded the internet (10 second adds), showered with some good old LN adaptations with the reference being a novel, being adapted in a movie (which the MC saw with his senpai, I think the senpai likes him TBH😁😁)

Also, the scene in vol 1 where the girl jumps on the MC, is kinda out of character. Seeing as how the FL is not that kind of person personality wise. But hey the author needs a good starting point to get us hooked and boy did we get hooked. <<less

First of all, it's not complete garbage, but nothing fancy or something that require deep thinking and contemplation (wrong site, I know, just read further). I managed to read almost 5 chapters, but I don't want to force myself to read more.

I get the feeling that author just read some random "psychology\philosophy" book or two and wanted to simulate the cliched situation. This novel feels like parody, parody of some mix of "profound" book and story that you see everywhere on novelupdates. In short, it's someone's attempt to write... more>> something not so simple and s*upid.

I dropped cause of reasoning presented. Honestly, I don't even remember that I dropped something because how I was discontent with thoughts of author. It's not that I completely disagree but reasoning is shallow and and omits many points that deserves attention.

If you want to read it because many say story relates to real life, my advice is to not. <<less

It was a heavenly piece of art. I truly enjoyed my time spent here.

It was mostly a happy and easy going one with some bumps here and there, with them questioning the level of distance they should have between them and if they are really satisfied with what they have between them at that moment.

The protagonist and side characters do appear to be smart and tries to give the novel a psychological aspect. No ecchi stuff going on. But some good humor and teasing which can leave you amused is... more>> to be expected.

Hope you enjoy your time as well, which you well if you are into this brother sister relationship kind of stuff.

Waiting desperately for the new volume which is to be released in summer 2022. <<less

Slice of Life as a genre has been saturated, with in quite honestly a turn-of events that is borderline extreme to the point that, you'll think "man, I wish that were me, well it will never be me so that's why I am reading what could have been me", well for that matter, it is not only inclusive to SoL so I guess that is quite far off, yet as mundane as it might sound, or ironically for that matter, what drives in Slice of Life genre? And readers, I... more>> think we all know what it is... and honestly, or I think, in some ironic way, it is not what Slice of Life as a genre is, and for that matter, I would like to say, that, Gimai Seikatsu, as textbook as it might seem, is the closest thus far I've seen to Slice of Life, as a reader, I've not in anyway shape of form wanted to be the MC, but in fact, I want to see him spend his daily life, and that is quite.... Interesting on itself.

I have not been in this sphere of otaku for long, mind you, I have not read that much, but I think, there is this notion that, as a whole, or at least partly in my opinion, Slice of Life genre now tends to, not more so focus on the "character" but devolve (in a lack of better ironic word) towards what the reader (and hey, for this matter prolly the author too) would want to experience, and I think, this is the peak of a genre it could have been. I mean, at the end of the day, THIS IS... FOR INTERTAINMENT, nothing more and nothing less, although, there are few in-between that might cater to the reader but for the most part, progress in a way that aligns to the growth of the characters, and for that I would embrace the futhermore scenarios that Gimai Seikatsu would evolve into.

Lastly, I would not rate this, as of yet, as I've finished writing this, simply because, v1-4 is in my opinion, the beginning, as I think what the epilogue of v4 had suggested. Herein, I dont want to rate the series as a whole just yet since I havent seen had a glimpse of I think most of what the series has to offer, compare it to a fanservice, v1-4 is like the ecchi fanservice but I'm reading a hentai so of course that's still not the main focus.... so take it with a grain of salt, but rating the v1-4 solely as a standalone arc of its one, I would say it's 3.5/5 or 4/5 really... anyway let's get to this shall we, I will promise this will be short:

Spoiler

Why should you read Gimai Seikai, a series that is laid upon the foundation of its ancestors for being as JAPANESE as it could be considering, I mean, lads who the f*ck are you kidding? I know you've seen prolly like 100 in*est/inseki hentai out there. This plot just reeks of a f*cking 10 min p*rnhub p*rn video and you know what that title is gonna be, so coming back to what I was going to say, why should you read this LN? Simply because, it is true to what the characters feel, yes it might exaggerate but regardless of such change, it has not gone to such extreme as I would call, extremities such as, our heroine suddenly wanting to suck MC's c*ck while calling him "onii-chan" or that, template Sagiri squel, or that extreme fanservice scene of MC opening the door to the bathroom and seeing his little sister dressing up... Yes, none of that extreme...

We get the raw feeling, or close therefore, when a random nobody suddenly meet a random nobody and they're now a family.. what you get? Simple, the embodiment of the first chs/half of Gimai Seikatsu v1. It's raw, self-aware of the fact that, these characters, are themselves, trying to adapt, trying to not get in the way of each other and for the sake of their circumstances, just get on with the ride without going too far. The readers has this sense of "daily life" just buy looking at the chapter names, which themselves are the date of that day. This enhances the narration that, there is nothing, just nothing sort of out-of-touch with this LN, you just wont see MC suddenly decided to be a pokemon trainer, you dont see heroine, suddenly be self-aware like she's already ready to bone MC, what we get is the... simply, perspective of these two, trying to just live in their new circumstances.

Circumstances are always a b*tch, like time, like money, and I would say, just like this plot, and this characters put in this situation, and I must say, these characters acted quite generously close to as a human spend their life. Now, tho is the interesting part, I'd say, quite comedically tragic, or in this case ironic, that they themselves are 'fated' to each other, as what ahem, Oregairu fans would say, why? Because, You have 1/2 of the coin that is someone looking for something genuine and the other 1/2 of the coin that is the genuine thing one is looking for... and whalla, you insert them in a situation of them being a family despite not even knowing each other and you get the title of "Days with My youth romantic comedy is wrong as I expected with Step Sister", I know quite fancy right? Man this will be the biggest hit Light Novel there is... I mean just look at that massive title, Japanese will salivate with this LN considering that, hey longer title, the better. You get me? Ok, I think enough with the joke already, I know you're going to ask me, "why is this very-SoL Anon-chan? It's not like everyone suddenly gets a cute step-sister and then you bang each other" which is the distinction within SoL genre. As I've said before, when you self-inserted as the MC, it's not a Slice of Life anymore, it's a delusion, so please touch some grass. Everything starts from something or somewhere, and that's what Gimai Seikatsu focused on, not on the whole circumstances, but how the characters within the scope adapted. And here the biggest part of it all is that, as we've seen, on separate occasion, that, they both, not magically, fell in love to each other, and this glorious occasion, as nonchalantly and wholeheartedly sounded calming, not profound to exhibit great achievement, but just as any other day, with a certain difference from any other day, like when you're c*cksucking Lost Ark to the point that you'd jackoff when you see you're in the server because ohboi the server queue is something, then Elder Ring launched and now it's all very different day once again. Because, I know you're not playing Lost Ark but you're playing Elder Ring.

We tend to see, characters stagnate, in a sense that they're not as close to a character as way back then, primary example of this is Tenshi-sama, like you've reach a certain point and anything beyond that is just 'noice', Gimai Seikatsu noiseness exhibits a very unique flavour, it's like a drug as you will, or a food, or like whatever, it just rings nicely and fittingly enough quite vibrant. It's not too over-the-top yet it's not monotonous to the point it's deaf, it's not too mundane that you'll call it boring nor it's too fluid that you'll call it a work-of-art, it's simply, the perspective, of a character that's living the life with his step-sister. And, ahem, dont ask this to his step-sister because she might freeze... What I'm trying to say is that, confession isnt as grand as it seem but at the same time it is treated with respect, in this LN compared to others that is almost as if glorifying confession like it's some sort of deity, I guess it make sense considering most authors, and readers are virg*n.... me included

Ayase Saki is an interesting heroine, or I would say that in v2, it was fitting, or more like that AHA moment you've gotten when you read her last diary. This growth, was perfectly demonstrated in her perspective and, man props to the author. It was such a pleasant read... Now, long story short, why should you read Gimai Seikatsu? Simply because, it's written in such a way that, as a reader, you'll be blessed to see perspective of characters live their life with each other... albeit, slowly and as a matter of fact, plainly boringly assuming and as I would describe it, Slice of Life to a T. Different PoVs in the LN is also presented in such a way that it adds depth to the scenario that it is intricate that, overall the series is quite true and thematically presented in its core, that is, as the title suggest, and would ultimately change as what story ought to be....

[collapse]

lastly, thank you for the TLer of CClaw Translation, without you guy (s), this random dude shitposting about Gimai Seikatsu why it's such a f*cking great LN to read and true to his word of contradicting what he said to be short, will not exist, so thank you for delivering the translated version. <<less

Loved this series. Made me feel butterflies and reminded me of the feelings of falling in love for the first time (not with ny step sister lol). I have re-read it twice from start to finish.

Pacing is decent as the author tries to make a more realistic story between two step siblings.

Overall just a comfy slice-of-life romance series. There’s a bit of drama, but nothing annoying. True to the SOL tag, this is a slow burn but that’s exactly what makes it so comfy and such an enjoyable read. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, though I do recommend giving it a try.

For the first 3 volumes I greatly enjoyed it. The slow burn romance and overall pacing and events was great and based off those 3 my rating would be high 4 or even 5 stars. However with volume 4 it felt like all the charm and individuality dried up and we are left with a bland "I shouldn't like them but I do" internal debate for as much of V4 as I could bring myself to read. Highly disappointing turn around. I've left it on my reading list in hopes... more>> I dredge up the willpower to slog through and see if it ever picks back up. <<less
