Kenkyo, Kenjitsu o Motto ni Ikite Orimasu

It was something that happened while I was waiting for the day of the primary school entrance exam. I realised that I had become one of the characters of a shoujo manga that I loved reading in my old life, ‘You Are My Dolce’.

The role I was assigned was a character who bullied the commoner protagonist and tried to get in the way of her love with a rich boy nicknamed Emperor; a typical villainess rich girl, Kisshouin Reika.

At the end of the story, Reika suffered the Emperor’s retribution and even her family fell into ruin. With the villain gone, the protagonist and the Emperor overcame their trials and became a couple. And they lived happily ever after.

Wait, that’s terrible for meee! The manga ended there, but I have to continue living my life after my family is ruined!

The protagonist can enjoy her romance or love or whatever on her own. I’ll erase my presence so that I don’t anger the Emperor.

Eh-? The story isn’t progressing well because there’s no villain, you say? But I’m busy saving up money and studying so that I can live well after the collapse.

This is an entertaining read so far. However, there's one important aspect that bums me out. The MC is too unambitious, she has no goals or anything. This is pretty funny and a great time killer, but this problem became so obvious now that the high school arc is about to end. It's supposed to be a different story, and now it ended up as the OG story only on the MC's perspective. It barely revolve around the MC, the narrative is mostly similar to a diary or a memo... more>> log that you could just skim without missing any important details. <<less

Kenkyo Kenjitsu is a comedy first and foremost and its fantastic in how the comedy is written and paced. Barely an ounce of drama to be found, definitely no melodrama or angst. Not really a romcom mind you - the romance is limited to say the least - but you'll definitely fall in love with Reika-sama!

(There are 2 translations. The one listed on the site is much better imo, but the other one is fairly well ahead, make of it what you will)

Nice and funny slice of life story. Really good for light reading.

The MC is a funny airhead (also many characters are too), so don't think too much about common sense reading this.

The story timeline progress in a nice pace. Quite nice plot. World building is a bit vague since it's using an alternate Japan, and so some doesn't make sense. But since it's supposed to be fun, light-hearted reading, this is already perfect.

This is the only weird thing that quite disturbs me:

Every year there would be new Pivoine members, while the Zui'ran regulation for entering the primary school was "within 1 hour of commuting". Well, how many wealthy & influential Pivoine-worthy family that have a child every year that live within one hour distance anyway?? How could they have enough member?

Well, once again, since this is supposed to be just a fun story, it's still passable excuse saying this is a rich city they lived in. bwahaha....

And don't expect a romance story. Until now the MC still hasn't any hint of romance, even though she is helping other people in their romance.

So, last night I was able to catch up, and let me tell you I was drearing it but couldn't stop. Super series. Super translator (they even add pictures of the foods and places AND they even explain shortly and optionally at the beginning of chapter some folklore or explain the puns lest easy to translate at the end), basically luxury staff. I recall that one time I browsed this page but didn't start the novel because the premise seemed repetitive. NOPE. I enjoyed it, the pace, the comedy, the... more>> romance, the school drama, the protagonist and every other character. The only thing I had troubles with was with keeping up with every name and character. Well, fantastich. I even have already read fanfiction of it xD maybe I'll read a second round soon. 100% recommended <<less

This novel is brilliant. It is funny and some times heart warming. I really really want Reika and Enjo to end up together. Anyway, the translation is perfect and I even enjoy the pictures that show what foods the characters are talking about!

I stayed up many a night unable to stop myself from reading more and more until very early in the mornings x-x' From reading the other reviews it seems you will either really really love it or you wont (though it seems most love it~). THIS IS THE second Japanese web novel I’ve read after the duke’s daughter and what introduced me and made me love about ‘villainess Noble’ girls. Reika-sama is this one character where you’ll never get tired off, even the POVs of the other characters and their own view of things towards Reika’s antics and other characters misunderstanding of our Rococo-Queen. This novel is that novel you’ll never get tired of reading. AND THE TRANSLATOR!! Seriously, Este (-sama) is such a hard working translator. He goes beyond translating and gives us like... more>> a quick explanation of things mentioned in the novel, it’s just plain torture to see the food or the sweets they eat and well he does plays some prank here and there.

still can’t get over with that chapter with the doll ?

well amidst the crazy and fun antics of Reika-sama, the hilarious misunderstandings around her. There are still those subtle hints of mystery and THE CHARACTER GROWTH of each and everyone here is amazing and you just can’t help but love the characters and the way the story progresses. <<less

This story is so good!! The MC is interesting she is basically an ordinary girl who sometimes have to act like an ojou-sama and she have her own funny antics, and I love how she keeps own despairing over her love life well lack of it precisely. But seriously the author need to write about MC love story soon, because I'm dying to know who she is going to end up with. The other characters are also interesting and I really like it when the author wrote other characters... more>> point of view. I love how the MC who are supposed to be the villainess are actually friends with the original heroine!!

The translator are doing a very good job at translating this story, especially when they actually put the picture of food and other stuff that is mentioned on the story. Sadly tho the original author stop updating at chapter 299 don't know if the story is going to update anymore. <<less

I can't really explain why I like this story so much but I can't stop reading it! The MC transmigrated and is supposed to be a jealous villain character. Watching her try to avoid the mean girl route is hilarious and the relationships she makes gives me a good feeling. And I keep rooting for her to have her own romance! If you want to read something funny and light to pass the time this is it. :)

Not sure how I feel about this so far. I would definitely enjoy it as a light read to speed through, but if I think more deeply the main character Reika just rubs me the wrong way. Although she doesn’t remember all her memories, she comes off to me as a 5 year old, despite her having at least some memory of being a teenager. Obviously there would be some childish tendencies due to being just Reika in the beginning, but come on, she’s got the mindset of a teenager... more>> now! Even if she has to act as a child to others because of her physical age, at least her own thoughts would be normal.. Right? Not at all. She is scared of Emperor, who is only I believe 8. She was around 20 at death, that is like saying a high school graduate is scared of a 3rd grader. I don’t know if it is just me, but Japanese novels just give me the vibe of every protaganist being a kid (if anyone knows a book where they actually act their age, please let me know) Every time I recall her being reborn, I just want to quit reading, but since I am only chapter 17, I’ll give it a chance. <<less

If this, and Otoburi, another similar LN with the same premise, is an indication of what shoujo-based reincarnation stories are, then sign me up for more. At least in comparison to all the ones about shounen protags...

This one is a slightly comedic take on the reincarnation genre, this time as the rich ojousama as*hole antagonist of a shoujo-manga. Of course the commoner reincarnate doesn't want to get the Bad End of the original character she now inhabits, so she tries to use some of that great power some people have:... more>> common sense. Like Otoburi, there seem to be divergence from the original "backstory" of the story-within-story shoujo manga that the reincarnate-MC is incarnated into, but we haven't yet even seen the original-Heroine, so who knows how much has changed? As it is, this is mostly a progression-of-life story of the MC's new life, and how she copes with trying to keep things as steady as she can without tripping any landmines that will trigger a Bad End someday down the line. <<less

I absolutely love this novel. The MC’s inner thoughts are hilarious and her interactions with the other characters are funny too. I love how she nicknames other characters in her head and sometimes categorizes them into villages. Overall, I highly recommend reading this novel if you want a good laugh and something easy-going.

I want more, the story is so mellow and nice and the heart really pulls you in when you think about the students who are bully and then were cared kindly by Reiko-oneesama. She cares about everyone and I understand her concerns with Baka and that smile prince since they are amazing but at the same time sort of pitiful, except Creepy Smiles he can handle himself a little too well. But over all I soooo want to know very badly what Reiko is from someone else POV espically from... more>> Enjou's, Baka, and the Students. <<less

I read this novel due to the gap made when a rococo queen character has a grilled squid in her hands (in the novel image). And I was indeed not dissapointed with this novel. Pure comedy! Sacrifice love MC for the sake of comedy! The story is very light, no plotting and scheming and more of eating lol.

I have already read it more than 200chapters. This novel is good. It don’t have much going on but each chapter has it funny or its moment. In the long run, its story is pregressing, albeit very little pace, it’s still progressing into an interesting story.

This series problem however, lies in its repettitive story line sometimes

MC tend to eat a lot. So in the end she had to gone to a diet. Them this story is repeat itself later. It’s not a bad thing to do in a novel. You can even call it to be that novel gimmick. However, when that gimmick tend to eat up a lot of chapter around 10chapter or more each time that make you bored rather quickly.

Another thing I want to point out is that if you want to do a diet gimmick like 10chapters. Please just don’t build up the moment for 15-20 chapters that is a LOT. When I read it and saw it coming. It really make me want to drop it immediatly.

In fact, despite how much I like this novel I already drop it like 4 times already. That’s a lot for me.

Ugh. I hate it it when I've caught up, I get this huge sense of loss.

Anyway, the first thing you need to know about this story; the romance.

Spoiler

It isn't there. I mean like 152 chapters, Our Girl, Reika hasn't as much as held someone's hand romantically. Oh there have been guys she was interested, but a few chapters later, they'll be unavailable. And she's on 2nd year of high school already, so the original plot of the game is already close to ending.

[collapse]

Story: 3.8/5

Spoiler

I don't read Shoujo often. It's fine for craving fluffy scenes. However, Kenkyo Kenjitsu has this constant back and forth with certain plot devices. For example, Reika's weight. After every 10-20 chapters, you'll constantly get Reika worrying about her weight then exercising/dieting/fasting like mad to slim down. The author uses more than her weight. For example, her grades, the romance, etc.

I'm critiquing this as the actual Plot is tied to these events, sometimes nearly neutralizing my desire to read the next chapter.

[collapse]

Characters: 3.7/5

Spoiler

Honestly, the characters are entertaining, but that's about it. Reika herself likes to wave at Flag Events as she purposely passes them by. Not that she doesn't do her own thing, but most of the time she waits until things get troublesome because Reila herself is a coward.

The other characters are a bunch of idiots too. The side characters believe Reika to be the perfect Oujo-sama so it's funny to compare their POV to Reika's. However, there aren't any "Reckless" characters which is a shame. By "Reckless" I mean a guy that would, on purpose, try to approach Reika to try and court her. Oh there were some guys early in the High school arc, but they were quickly forgotten which is again, a shame since I'd really like to see Reika's character in a relationship and for someone to know the REAL her.

Also, Reika is pretty talentless. This is VERY apparent in Highschool Arc and also starts showing in Middleschool Arc. Like, despite previously being a 20 year old woman before getting reincarnated, she struggles to get into top 30 in high school, while her younger cousin gets 20th without much effort.

[collapse]

Style: 4/5

Grammar and word structure has nothing wrong with it. There are some misspellings, but it's nothing too big.

World Building: Food/5

Spoiler

One of Reika's biggest worries is her weight. The author constantly includes food in the story but never describes it.

No, it's much worse.

Instead, the Translator inserts appetizing pictures in the story!

You might get hungry as you read this.

[collapse]

Over all: 4/5

It's a cute story. It doesn't take itself seriously and there's no real drama, so I don't look too hard into it's faults. There are one or two tear jerking moments, but other than that, not much is rememberable other than Reika herself as she's damn adorable-tier-would-cuddle-long-time.

If you want something cute, light, and maybe crack a smile every chapter or so, I recommend you give it a read.

If you're looking for something more serious that makes you cry or roar for the character, I recommend looking elsewhere... Is what I'd like to say, but I have no idea what the next 100 chapters could do to this story. If the mood takes a nosedive to "My heart is breaking" territory, I'll let you know. <<less

It's a really fun novel, but very slow. There's romance, but it focuses mostly on other characters. As of this character, the main character has yet to love anyone seriously, though she does want to have a romance. Even if she does like someone, she shuts down her interest as soon as she knows he's taken. (That said, those interests aren't really my preferred pairing anyway).

I have no idea who she's going to end up with. I prefer Enjou, personally, but even all this time, there's not much romantic development... more>> so I'm somewhat disappointed. I'm not sure there's much exciting character development either, to be honest. Anyway, the translator is pretty good, my review isn't based off that. It's just not finished so I can't really give it a decent rating since I don't know where the plot is heading to 250 chapters in. <<less

First time review, so don't take it too seriously

Moe novel with drill hair ojou sama MC, which is personally my favourite type of character, though sadly they are mostly extras/side characters, which is why I love this novel on a personal level. I like how she thinks so clumsily, yet through other people (class rep and... class rep 2 and... *cough class rep 3), we see somehow she's still holding on, plus the other actions of the MC that we do not read from POV of the MC shown through... more>> oniichanandbestfriendduo that makes her cute and likeable. I loved to the point where I forgot (... neglected) the fact I have exams this week, and I spent the entire day reading (although I was not any better the previous days as well). Because of this novel, I might try to read other novels that is more on character interaction, rather than plot and plot twists and... sadly, plot holes (they try too hard sometimes), which is a nice break from all the xianxias I've been reading (I'm up to date, but sadly, not so fast translation speed.... disciple, otherworldly, transcending, a thought...... as opposed to the daily updates WoC and the insane translation speed of ISSTH). So yeah, if you're tired reading all those OP MCs, or caught up to translations (and is just too lazy to learn jap and chi), this will surely be a good pick to read (and like me, it might be your fav novel). No extreme tension, and the MC is just.... adorable..... it's really easy to get invested in (as what we see from the protests from readers to fasten up the translations) despite being so, and is once again because of the MC.

The things that left me irritated at times is the MC is too timid at times, getting taken advantage of/underestimated by some characters (oh, don't worry, she finally snapped at some point, which was quite refreshing). What left me quite disappointed is so far she has yet to "OHOHOHO!" despite being the ojousama she is (... not that it's important or anything, nor has she had the opportunity to do so.... and is not of her character to do, as well as being mentioned early in the novel... it is just me liking the ojousama characters... I keep imagining her having blonde hair).

All in all my favourite MC (ojousama, imouto, drillhair<3, kind, clumsy yet noble aura <3<3, suprisingly clever at times, glutton, desperate, and hopeless romantic), side characters that make her shine but are not uninteresting and dumb, and a setting that is really neat.

Special thanks to the hardworking translator (with a name too long) for translating this novel for us plebs to read, while explaining all the references like the poems, historical characters, japanese culture and norms, as well the food (damnitall). The novel is translated is so well I can see a handsome (nohomo... youreoniichanright?), youth with overflowing wisdom and... I, I'm not too good at this.... pointless flatteries to make translator work aside, I hope to see more of the novel, and I'm in your care captain! (Cuz basically, it'll take 5-10 years before I learn to read jap) <<less

The main character is hilarious and likeable, even though her personality is uncommonly ordinary and not overpowered whatsoever. She's not extraordinarily smart, cunning, athletic, or strong-willed. She comes from a rich family and has good looks, but her mindset of a 'commoner' from her previous life gives her a different personality than most rich, good-looking main characters. Although she's not particularly smart or cunning, she is smart enough to solve her own problems and stand up for herself. I think what makes her so likeable is she's relatable and down-to-earth... more>> in the sense that if she were real, she'd be someone I'd be fast friends with.

The supporting characters in this novel are all fantastic as well, with vibrantly varied personalities that stand out from each other. So far the plot has been kind of uneventful, as we are progressing from primary school and the high school arc (where the real action starts) begins around chapter 74. <<less
