I feel that this is a very likable story if you like dogblood. It will surely deliver angst. The translator made this read so engaging that I feel that I would have had a hard time finishing this novel had it not been so captivating. The story itself for me was 3 stars but translation deserved 1 more star just for the TL.

My personal problems with it are:

    1. Qingci is smart with a sharp tongue, however by the latter part of the novel, he makes questionable decisions that puts himself in danger. I know these were set up for Qin Zheng's redemption but I wished these plots were more sophisticated and not

getting kidnapped in broad daylight or drinking an aphrodesiac-laced drink.

    2. It isn't a satisfying read if what you're looking for is a wife-chasing crematorium. What Qingci suffered is disproportionate to whatever regret/torment Qin Zheng will go through. It can't be considered groveling at all. The only reprieve I got was when
      Spoiler

Zhen-er didn't recognize his papa. That's the only part where we get to see him suffering from the consequences of his actions, honestly and it lasts like, 2 chapters.

    3. No follow through with side characters especially for Dan Yu and Li Zi. It felt like they were thrown out the window once reconciliation was near. The same could be said about the whole Qin family. Everything said and done was just that. They lose relevance after the torment. Also Chu Ming, him being the empress had 0 bearing to the plot. These characters were great but it felt like they were plot devices rather than characters that were interconnected and that we could follow through.
    4. Qin Zheng and his rise to power.
      Spoiler

It felt like him becoming the general was just another plot device to level the playing field since MC was very OP. Once he became general it also had very little bearing to the plot. It was only used by the end when he had to leave for war. Wish they had to work together instead but what happened was just Qingci risking his already dangerous pregnancy by going to the frontlines. *Sighs*
