A girl stranded in a small lakeside village deep within the mountains, Mitsuha, and a boy caught up in the oddly orderly chaos of bustling Tokyo, Taki, begin to dream of another, unfamiliar life. Before long, they realize that they aren’t dreaming at all, but actually switching bodies. Separated even further apart than they ever would have imagined, yet still somehow inexplicably connected, they search for the truth behind their strange phenomenon and discover what really happened on that fateful night when the stars rained from the sky.

This is the second japanese novel I have read. It is also the first romance novel I have read (jp). And this is good. Really good. I can't think of any flaws in this novel. It goes along very well with the movie, and they both each have their own parts they excel in. If you haven't read the novel or watched the movie I think it would be better to read the novel and then watch the movie. Reading the novel has a different feel than watching the anime... more>> and leaves a lot more to imagination and some parts don't work as well when animated. On the other hand the movie has a really good animation (best I have seen so far in an anime) and soundtrack so you won't be missing out even if you already know the plot. Plus the movie has a couple of small things that aren't in the novel which adds onto the experience. <<less

Since I don't watch the movie version yet, I don't have any high expectation towards this story. But I plan to watch the movie some other time. As for the novel version, I think it's already good enough although I agree that some scenes were a bit confusing because it didn't describe whether it was from the past/present or whether it was from FL or ML's POV. What I love the most was the ending.

Spoiler

It's a bit bittersweet though because they still didn't remember anything from the past but fortunately, their bodies remembered each other so they instantly attracted to each other once they met again.

It's also kind of open ending because FL and ML didn't technically end up together yet but from their strong love for each other in the past, I assume that they will be together near in the future. The ending just a fresh start for both of them with their own bodies and without the influence of the past.

Decent, and I am willing to give it a 4/5 I read the official release from YenPress, and really enjoyed it, but I will be honest, the starting first 3 chapters were a bit slow to get into but from mid way through c3 to the end as well as the essay by the author were brilliant overall!

suggest giving it a go, if you want something stand alone and somewhat normal.
