The third young master of the Gu household, Gu Ye, had a wooden personality, a stuttering speech, couldn’t remember an answer after being told ten times, didn’t dare to protest after being bullied, was considered the shame of high society. His father, in a fit of anger, sent him back to the old home in the country for the new year. But unexpectedly, he came back like a new person, in half a year testing into the top university of the capital with the highest score in the whole school.

The entire high society circle was shocked!

After receiving his acceptance letter, the Gu family searched for Gu Ye for three days, and finally found him under an unassuming overpass. The Gu Ye who used to remain silent after being beaten had laid out a stall, stepping on a few hoodlums beneath his foot, and was selling drawings while he called out: “Exorcism Wards! Guanyin safety talismans! Wards against evil for the house! Anti-goblin and demon talismans! ……Supersale on wards and talismans! If you have the right karma, 88 per ward! Don’t pass this by!”

He looked down beneath his foot, saying with a grin: “I have special Give Up Wickedness Talismans, I think you each need three.”

The family is really one of the core aspects of the novel. I always smile or laugh whenever I read any Gu family scene. The family is just too warm and funny.

I really like the scene when the brothers (Gu Sen and Gu Lin) was confronted by Gu Ye about his relationship with Yu Ze. It's really funny.

And the stepmother, I didn't expect her character at all. I thought she would be the cliche stepmom in any other novels, scheming, two-faced b*tch, and deserves to die. I understand now why many readers love her and even acknowledge her as one of their favorite characters in the novel. She's a well-written and well-thought out character.

We can't forget about Gu Ye's friends, they're also part of the things I love in the novel. They're quite comedic but their scenes are more in school. And the other one, Xie Cheng, he's Gu Ye's partner in crime while solving grievances.

The romance is nice, it's like an icing to the cake. It's subtle, but it's there. I really like their relationship, it's not dark nor controlling at all. You'll definitely love them.

If you're worrying if the arcs will feel repeated, yes, it does feel like that. Don't worry though, the arcs will keep you entertained enough. At first, I also got worried that I'll get bored in middle because of the repetition but I went through it smoothly. If I can do it, you can do it too!

The ending, loveee! It's a proper, and my cup of tea ending. I just wish there's extras because the novel is a bit short for me. I still want tea about the characters. <<less

its really a great novel. The author is amazing in finding the right balance into right and wrong and giving thorough explanations.

its also very thought provoking.

my only pet peeve is that its not fully tranlated and mtl does not deliver the author thoughts that well. For other novels it was not an issue, but since this has a more heavy storyline its better to wait for the translation to be completed.

They are hilarious, good fam. What more could I want? I'm very interested with the Feng shui and integration of the ghosts, I don't have knowledge regarding that but the way the author inserted it is really immersive.

It’s a really good story that’s gotten me to burst into tears and laugh out loud. The mtl is a headache to read tho and who knows if this will ever be properly translated. The ML fell in love a little too quickly for my tastes but it wasn’t that bad. The side characters are all interesting but I don’t understand the family’s treatment of og Gu Ye, like that kid deserved so much better 😭

Pros :

The fam. Gosh I am so tired of the bad step mom and step sibling that bully MC all day. Luckily in this book, MC's fam love him and their interactions w eachother are engaging and fun. The bickerings and coaxing between siblings are fun to read. I truly enjoy this fam, this is quite hard to find especially for transmigration novel.

MC and ML are okay ig. MC could be too op at times. ML is the son of destiny what can I say. One thing that I like... more>> about MC is that he educate other people to ve more human and correct their behaviour. Don't expect much romance. Tbh it's bland, no spice, it's blank. But ML has a quite nice attitude.

The mission are good. Most of them are terrible crimes that are extremely inhumane. Probably need TW warnings. There's some depth to the story of the mission but not too much. You won't hurt your brain trying to read this.

Translation is good. Mtl is quite easy especially if you know some chinese.

Cons :

Kinda boring past the 120+ chap. It's the same thing all over but with new missions. There's not much tension. The ending is quite boring compared to the rest of the story.

Honestly the familial love is the thing that stood out the most. <<less

Amazing novel that had me geniunely laughing out loud

Had to drop it when the third translator (the one who posts on wattpad) started translating because the quality was too poor. They had an editor apparently but it was riddled with spelling and grammar errors and didn't flow. Grateful to them for trying but just letting people know if they're like me and will struggle with it. Not sure if I can read more unless someone else picks it up from ch21 : (

The MC can be summed up to one word: Domineering. He's very arrogant, does things his own way but at the same time, he isn't apathetic. Personally, my favourite character is Mrs Gu! Stepmother who isn't a bit*h that is plotting your death but still scheming and cunning? Sign me up goddamn. 3/5 for the story, add one more star for the translations. 4/5* in total.

just that the very end was not very satisfying because I really wanted to know what happens to the ML and MC in the after life. I feel that it’s missing one more chapter that would explain the ML’s background and why he has such a strong purple aura. I really want to know how they are going to find each other in the afterlife.

This one is good. It is funny and entertaining, especially the realistic portrayal of his stepmom (greedy with money and a little unfair but has a bottomline and loves him). But eventually I find it boring and near ending is cliche (last ch is good though). There are also a lot of flaws and downside.

    1. the MC's family didn't doubt the sudden change, esp the stepmom who reared the MC til his teens (his dad doubted a lil though)
    1. There are a lot of contradictories fr MC's statements:... more>> since the dead and the living have different paths, the living shouldn't see em (expect those with yin-yang eyes), so he didn't let the customer see the ghost of his beloved but in the succeeding chapters, he let the families see the ghost of the deceased
    1. The ML is the typical perfect ML. Hence, it makes him more of a 2D than 3D.

Every chapter make me laugh and every ghost have their own story that makes you so sad and feeling sorry for them.

I love MC family too and the ML ?

A good novel to read, the ghost stories are episodic and there is a reason for why the MC is op.

Also the one of the few novels I've read where the stepmother is not evil and want to break up the family because of wealth.

The family interaction is very good, u will know while reading that they care for one another in their own ways.

  • chtr: 8/10 (most of them were quite interesting and funny, the MC is a talented rebellious taoist who got transmigrated into body after sacrificing his OG body to save the city, he is very funny and humorous, the only negative thing is that he drags the confession of the ML and like it was very unnecessary and felt annoyin, ML is also a talented individual in his field and had quite a tragic past but overall he is very cute especially when chasing the MC, these two are so funny together but anyways)
  • storyline: 7.5/10 (it was interesting at the start like the MC figured out and caught so many lewsers who did awful stuff and let them have their retribution but the cases were dumped and squeezed together and the normal life of his was pretty rigid too maybe its the direct translations but I did not feel the good "energy" I did while I was reading frm chpt 1-47)
  • overall: 7/10 (this is the least I can give)

Although it does get somewhat repetitive, I still like it just because. Basically MC is bringing to light the likeliness of such tragedies having occured or are occuring in society.

Pessimistally speaking, there really are many people like that. They view the lives of others as beneath their own or worse, simply ants they can stomp on.

Thankfully, while going along the story, there are some comedy interspersed within which can somewhat alleviate the effects on people's mood when thinking about dark thoughts, so yeah, It's worth a read.

If you are wondering if this is worth reading, it is. There will be a lot of waiting undoubtedly.

Great job for the translator and the amazing Author that wrote this masterpiece.

I MTL-ed this and I didn't stop it halfway through like many I MTL. This is a good story that, even if I had a hard time MTL-ing, is so cheery.

I love the entire Gu Family. My only grievance with this is so many characters that they all get buried.

What happened to little baby girl Lingling in the end? After her last chapter she vanished. Not even a phrase in the epilogue. Same for Ye Li, sister Hong, and so many of His Ye's ghosts.
