Kidnapped Dragons

– The planet [Earth] has entered the abnormal state [Apocalypse].

– You have failed in saving the Earth. The Authority, [Vintage Clock (EX)] rewinds the world’s time.

For Yu Jitae, it was a message he had seen many times.

It was tiresome.

It would have been great had he died with everyone else.

But he couldn’t, for his authorities that made him the strongest existence, brought him back in time whenever he died.

And even with his strength, he couldn’t protect the broad earth against the maddened dragons.

– The world’s time will soon begin.

As the clock resumed ticking in the direction it should, his 7th iteration came to a start.

Fortunately, he finally had the gist of it.

I wasn't thinking of writing of a review myself, considering the natural bias that could come with it, but firstly I just wanted to address something that was mentioned in a different review.

[It doesn't help when the translator fails at translating Korean slang and their sayings to English. Leaving us with 'golden chicken' as a legitimate name for the gold dragon when it was clearly not suppose to be.]

The term used in the raw is 병아리, and being a native Korean myself, I can say it for certain that the... more>> word contains no other meaning except, 'baby chicken'. You will see why the author gave this nickname to Kaeul in the later chapters.

If you're doubtful of some of the translations, (and this doesn't apply to just myself, but other translators as well) then please ask us for the rationale behind them, instead of downright claiming that it is a wrong translation without even checking the raw. I spend, and I'm sure others do as well, hours in the midst of our busy lives to provide quality translations to our best abilities, that do not shame the author, nor waste the time of our readers. Seeing ignorant comments do not motivate us at all.

That aside, speaking as a reader of this fairly long novel, all I want to say is that it gets fabulous towards the late portions of the story. The author does a fantastic job at having all the characters grow throughout the novel, and especially our dear MC whose actions and goals perfectly fit his character. Another thing is that the author is great at laying the groundwork for plot twists.

One thing to note, is that initially, his goal isn't saving everyone, and he's sort of similar to Emiya Kiritsugu from Fate, but different in the sense that he wouldn't bother doing things as long as it doesn't relate to saving the Earth.

As long as you keep that difference in value in mind, I'm sure you'll understand his actions a bit better.

And Gyeoul is exceptionally cute, so I don't see why you wouldn't give it a read :/

EDIT: Yes Valven, I agree wholeheartedly. I also think this novel is one hell of a masterpiece.

Dear everyone else: If you're liking the novel so far, that's awesome but it only gets better as time goes. <<less

First thing's first, this ain't no Harem novel about a guy hooking up with beautiful dragon women, although I'm personally into that but that's besides the point.

This story has substance, depth, mystery, proper pacing and progression. One of the aspects about this story I enjoy is the fact that the MC's interactions with the dragons are causing him to slowly regain his lost humanity.

Give it a read.

I started reading ahead in the raws, because it was recommended by the same translator for Genius of a Performing Arts High. Rather than a comprehensive analysis of the novel, I'd like to recommend it.

Read it. You won't be disappointed.

EDIT: Completed. There's only one word to describe this novel: Masterpiece.

After reading the side stories, I can't but help but read the whole novel multiple times. Each iteration of reading, I find details I overlook. The world feels so alive because of that.

It's beautiful writing. It's so magnificent that it's indescribable.

I know that I am making a ridiculously early call with this series, but this is Mango approved.

The Korean authors are the best when it comes to writing rebirth/revenge type series which are actually set in a functioning society. Of course, they have the tendencies towards gore and excessive nationalism, but this particular series seems to have been overlooked by these tendencies.

After you saw the summary, the first thing which should have sparked in your mind was: This is pretty cliche. Overpowered MC stays with moe girls. It is a... more>> SoL-Fantasy setting with occasional action arcs. Truth be told, this is that cliche. But this series beautifully portrays what happens when a cliche is actually done well.

For starters, while the MC is messed up by revenge and all, he is not naive. Definitely a plus point, but he is also single-dimensional. All that is in his mind is to save the world, to a point that he himself doesn't know why. Except, in this iteration, he creates that reason unwittingly by bringing together a family for himself. And his change of character is very satisfying to read. Not to mention, he has got his priorities straight.

The four moe girls are sufficiently unique from each other. More importantly, they all have unique backstories due to the past interactions, and the entire setting is one which reeks of wholesomeness while also allowing for actual villains and drama characters. There are hints that one of the girl could be attracted to the MC, but it is too soon to call. Overall, I don't expect a harem. And the kids are not moe just by being 'lil buns'. Rather, it is their personality and interactions which create the cute movements.

The antagonists are too soon to be judged. With dragons, there exist demons. It also looks like there is a long-term God tier antagonist who will make the MC repay for all the boons he usurped by reincarnating again and again. We also managed to get some support character (s) who have so far focused on the comedic elements in the positive side, and the tr*shy drama queen villains on the other side. The way in which the author is actually willing to use a global setting in terms of naming and such is making me anticipate what is to come.

With the short-term goals set, and a long-term goal backed by past memories steadily pursued, AND an ultra-long term goal which goes beyond his memories/comfort zone in the offing right now... This is a glorious start.

In conclusion, I have sufficiently enjoyed this laidback and relaxing read to Mango approve it so early on. However, if the standards drop within the next 50 chapters or so, then I will be updating this review with my recommendation. <<less

The Koreans seem to have PERFECTED the regressor character design.

The "Superman issue" is solved beautifully, no conflicts are solved directly by force. Constantly taking this dead-eyed MC out of his comfort zone. He is almost like a wall the story is bouncing off of instead of the other way around.

The dragons are all well written and likable. Summer is my favourite dragon. Best personification of a battle junkie I've seen on this website. Natural motivations with clear goals. I enjoy Spring and Winter but wish Fall got more interactions.

Spoiler

Currently the MC is as*xual but I am unsure if this will become a harem novel. I like thinking of the dragons as daughters but Spring has already stated she isn't content with that. Both Spring and Summer are increasingly intimate with the MC, Winter herself may be destined to be beside the MC.

Anyways so far this is a classic and will become a case-study on regressor archetype for future authors. <<less

A story of a guy who tries to save his world and failed 6 time because of young dragons who got on earth by accident when they went out for their amus**ent period (a time for young dragons to experience the world and do what they like to make good memories for when they age) and they get caught up in wars between humans who have awakened their powers and so the dragon race want to avenge their children

MC tries to stop the dragons with violence with all 6 tries... more>> and he keeps losing his emotions as he see his loved ones die and his world getting destroyed over and over again and he keeps his skills and memories of each regression that amounts to 15-20 years each

Now that violence has failed MC changes his approach in the 7th regression (current one) by gathering the dragons without restraining them alot

This story is amazing and I liked it alot how a super duper op MC live with 4 cute dragons each with her unique personality (green dragon is like a kind older sister, yellow is like an energetic teenager, blue is like a spoiled little girl that you wish you can chew on her and red with her fierce personality) as their guardian. Those dragons are so cute especially blue and yellow and I also like how they make MC regain his emotions little by little. And how they became the yu household loool

Conclusion: extremely cute and fluffy story, recommended

Edit:ch 147 the plot got kinda more serious but still fluffy nonetheless

(Update: Ch. 198 This is my favorite novel. Enjoy the emojis.) This novel isn't flashy. It's about the MC becoming human again. Additionally, these characters have weight. The author is a master of "show don't tell, " and I feel it. Exposition is only given when absolutely necessary, but the characters are constantly being expanded through actions. As a result, even if you've read a similar plot point in another novel, the impact here is completely different.

Having said that, this isn't a junk food novel. It's a gourmet novel.... more>> Expect to have to chew on this for about 44 chapters before the true flavors start to sleep out, but know that what you get is truly rich. I don't blame the lower rated review, but in keeping with the food analogies, they took their meal out of the oven 15 minutes early and then complained it was undercooked. Granted, they didn't know it matured into something amazing, so they can't really be blamed for expecting the same time frame as most novels to judge the story.

Ch. 44 I was expecting a lot of pitfalls when I started reading, but I was pleasantly surprised once I started reading. The story is well composed.

Fair warning, the MC is subtle. He appears emotionless at first, but he very gradually changes over time. His brief moments of humanity, which he himself is confused by, were actually touching. (Especially when he compares these moments to his past experiences.)

Ch. 48 Update: This author is a God when it comes to getting the reader emotionally invested.

Ch. 82 Update: Oh God...

Ch. 165 😭

Ch. 187 😱

You might get put off by the title, but let me tell you, this was one of the best novels I've ever seen. Its focused on the characters, their development and the world. The MC is actually great. The plot makes him develop throughout the novel, and that at some point you'll see for yourself how much he changes. Going from a cold and mechanical person to learning to become (albeit subtle) warmer and regain a few bits of his lost humanity. He has legitimate reasons in why he can't... more>> understand what it means to be "human" (he ironically feels less human than the dragons during the first few parts of the story), having to see everything be destroyed and fail his missions 6 times. The life that he had lived equates to centuries. He became so, so powerful that he can beat up even adult dragons, but none of that matters if he can't even complete his "goal".

As the story goes, the MC learns to empathize and care for the hatchlings. At the same time, his regrets drag him down to the black abyss, as he asks himself if he deserves to be happy after the atrocities that he had committed during his previous regressions. His feelings for them goes from "This is just work, go do what you want but there's a line we can't cross" to "Lets talk about it and deal with it. You're not alone, I'm here". He lets them experience both happiness and difficulties so they can properly grow. He allows and helps them to succeed and then have a taste of failure.

The hatchlings (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) are wonderful, with each of them going through their own character development. They have differing characteristics, dreams, and attitudes. They're all unique to their own way. They learn to deal with their feelings, and learn to have aspirations and goals. They'll go through emotional crisis (hatchling dragons are like teens in puberty except 10x worse), which is where the MC comes in. He acts like a guardian-figure but at the same time he also unconsciously helps himself by looking back to his past life while helping them. He tries his best to put himself in their shoes despite finding difficulty in doing so. 12/10, this novel is beautiful. Great enough that I even read the MTL version of it cause I am too impatient. <<less

You got a MC with zero personality. He has nothing for us to connect with and it doesn't help when this whole fic is in third person. The dragons who are living with him are the only good thing of the fic. Everything else is mediocre.

Our MC keeps having abrupt flash backs, he makes very poor decisions every chapter for the sole reason to create drama and the fic is slowly turning into a CN novel. Where we got rich families being shocked and awed by the dragon girls. Going... more>> as far as sabotaging them and trying to get revenge on the MC. It doesn't help when the translator fails at translating Korean slang and their sayings to English. Leaving us with 'golden chicken' as a legitimate name for the gold dragon when it was clearly not suppose to be.

Honestly, people should avoid this fic like the plague. Otherwise take it as a great example of what not to do in writing. <<less

It's a pretty okay story. The premise is interesting, though the execution is lackluster. The characters - especially the MC - are generic, and little has been done to make us relate to them. You've got the red-headed tsundere, the smart green-haired dere, and the naive blond 'chick' (literally nicknamed golden chicken).

You've got plotholes in abundance and the MC is at this point dead inside. He's not very smart, creative or proactive for a guy having survived over 130+ years in an apocalypse. By all means, he's really just an... more>> empty shell, which is not a criticism since that's understandable.

The translation/grammar is absolutely terrible though. It'd be great if the TL had an editor to make it smoother.

All in all, I feel pretty ambivalent about this story. It's passable and readable despite its many flaws. I'm mostly curious to see how it proceeds. <<less

Great novel. I'm usually quite skeptical on reading anything with chapters on double digits, but I took a dive on this one and from here I'll keep going deeper.

Characters are good, have their own quirks and personalities. MC might be a bit stale in the beginning. You might compare him to other defeatist MC's out there, but don't let this fool you, keep reading and you'll see progress on his personality. Their inner dialogues are well thought out, very much within their character.

World building is excellent, author expands on the... more>> world in line with the characters actions instead of doing an information dump, which is quite rare from the novels I've read. Though others might consider this a con, I'd take this as a fresh take on world building. (At least from what I've read).

Translation is good, no problems grammatically from what I can tell.

If you want a novel that is mainly focused on the characters development and their interactions with one another, then this is a good one. <<less

I'll keep it brief for now, though I'm not sure I'll be able to restrain myself from gushing later...

This has quickly become one of my favourites. The translation is phenomenal too.

The MC is a being at the level of the gods, who's been forced to live through the end of the world 6 times previously. The author does a fantastic job portraying a character that's had to live through the literal end of the world six times. The MC is broken, and the story explores him finding things he's lost... more>> and dealing with the reality of living through six ends. All with a cast of the cutest damn Dragon girls to help him along the way.

What I love the most about this is that it's a light feeling fun read that explores intensely deep topics like the loss of one's humanity, trauma from losing everyone and everything you care about multiple times, and the struggle to find a path to walk in one's life, among other things. With an OP MC and ridiculously cute Dragon girls. What more can I say?

But seriously, it touches on important social and personal topics in a light but thoughtful way, and I think quite realistically explores what an MC with overwhelming power forced to live through the end over and over again, struggling to prevent it just so he can finally find his own end. Well worth giving it a shot, and it's a joy seeing him evolve and grow as a person through interactions with the Dragons.

Err, I guess this isn't quite short and brief... It's a fantastic story that's been translated beautifully that you should absolutely read! <<less

I rarely write reviews, but let me tell you, this is amazing. An MC that isn't so shallow, and isn't blind to what's around him. Characters who actually have character development: who mature, they are childish, but realize it, they're confused about their emotions, they are aware of those around them, but also sometimes they aren't. This is really amazing and beautiful, and the interactions he has with each dragon is special and original. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

The story really delivered in what it set to accomplish, that is give a slice of life with a dead inside but motivated OP MC and well fleshed out Dragons characters that grow their relationship and as characters. With minor action scenes, without any Ecchi or Harem.

They really act as their personality would imply in a variety of comedic effects and interactions, that the MC is trying to make them happy and unconscious is warming his dead heart.

I particularly think that there is a few issues, but they are more... more>> preferences.

I believe that the story suffer from the fact that from the very start it set the parameters of how their relationship would end up and never deviate from there

Spoiler

One of the first few chapters, Bom comment that they look like a family, with her being the mother and the others dragons being the kids, with Red being the rebel, the Yellow being the naive silly that get picked on, while Blue being the cute (as she is the youngest) And until now that not seen to have changed in the slightest.

[collapse]

For example, I think the novel would improve with at very least a Love Triangle or Harem-esque tag, because at least until now it seen that most problems are in the cusp of being set and I wanted more romance conflicts. Even something light like after a long time the girls start to see in a different light that clash with their previous view and their "Happy Family" setting.

Meanwhile, the way the author treat the side conflict, is more to explain some the MC backstory because the conflict themselfs are but small roads bumps for the MC because his vast power, experience and even clones, so any problem seen to be just a matter of time while the dragon drama is unfold at the main plot. So both sides are very disconected and even things you thought it would be major problems seen to been delt shift and easy.

I disliked partially how the author treated some characters arcs

Spoiler

Despise Bom (green dragon) being the main romantic lead, she has a weird arc as she doesn't have any desires of her own and end up "conquering the MC" as her goal for her "Amus**ent", and having their everything revolve around the MC is bad because the MC objective is to make them happy.

Meanwhile Yellow Dragon, end up having the most interesting arc, with interest branching beyond her Amus**ent objective into others conflicts in special with the relative recent flashback reveals that her past self had a better relationship with the MC.

Red and Blue are very straightforward that they need a Master and a Dad (to protect) respectively and most of their story is about how the MC understand and manege to grow into that role; The most interesting development would come from Red gapmoe and Blue mischievous side.

I’ve gotta say, this novel is amazing. The characters are all super interesting, and there is a different type of deep relationship between each character. Seeing them all develop in their own way has been a treat. It’s pretty hard to find novels like this that can really delve into a male/female relationship that is not romantic or simple.

The translation is also great and consistent, which is very much appreciated. Rain is the goat.

I am amazed with the character growth in this story. Its well balanced with action and Fluff to me it gives meaning to both. The fluff is the main meat its about how he becomes a better person and moves on from his past while the action is there to ensure the past does not repeat. Most of the regression I've read is about making the regression more perfect, solving the future troubles, taking care of the previous regrets.

Here MC is taking a new path and it's being good.

Usually the 'older mind but younger body' MC that are found in most novels are typically most of the time have arrogance and pride that come with their age and experience and try to act like experts.
