Once transmigrated, she entered a fire pit. Yue You Jin, as the eldest daughter of the second branch, was adorned with a bunch of younger sisters. Her strong soul, however, didn’t have a strong physique. So she could only swallow her anger until she was twelve years old.

A scum Dad, who can’t give birth to a son, cheated while married and brought home the third wheel with him. A grandmother, who places more importance to son over daughters, doesn’t treat her granddaughter as a human being. And also cousin sisters, who want to climb high branches, looked down rural people and a ‘superbrain’ cousin brother, who emptied the family wealth to bribe examiners …

Fortunately, she finally found a chance to escape from Yue Family, this bunch of oddballs. Yue You Jin had to shoulder the heavy burden of supporting the family of ten, She can only to empty her brain for money-making ideas. Finally raised her sisters. Initially, she thought she could retire in honor. What? You guys are starting to rush marriage?

The little sisters: “Eldest Sister, you and your brother-in-law have been in a nameless relationship for so many years, just short a ceremony. There’s no time like the present, so let’s do it today?”

The brother-in-law who never got the chance to get formal/legal status was moved to tears. “Sisters, add oil (go for it)! Brother-in-law wants to buy you a big house!”

The female lead’s family surname was Yue in the early stage and changed to Su in the middle period.

I was really annoyed from chap 1 - 40 to the point of thinking to drop this. Lol well after that, I can say that the story turn out to be a good one. Just need some patience to reach chap 41?

Spoiler

I really thought the FL will wait until her youngest sibling gets married.

[collapse]

So for those with low rate, it seems like they did not reach chap 40 ?

I finished reading the MTL version and I loved it so much! If you liked The Legend of Minglan, book or tv show, then you’ll find several common elements in this one.

1) in the original of LoML, the FL was a transmigrated girl. Same for this story.

2) Both FLs have heavy common sense and family loyalty

... more>> 3) both started low and made their own places for themselves

4) both have MLs who love and are devoted to them.

5) story is slow paced, has well made setting

6) both don’t hesitate to order the death or destruction of enemies

If you want more action and drama, this story isn’t for you. But if you want a story that has character building (not so much FL but the others around her) and solid cause and effect story telling, this is a pretty good one. Heads up: first 50 chapters or more feature child abuse (not sexual), neglect, and heavy anti-feminist views that should make even the most causal male scratch his head at backwards thinking... maybe. <<less

This was a good transmigration/slice of life novel.

MC is a woman, which is always a risk when reading a chinese novel. In most chinese novels nearly all female characters regardless of if they are MC or supporting, regardless of how OP they are written, they are usually written as submissive or "less than" the male lead. Either male lead is infinitely more successful/powerful/etc than them or they become like a kitten in front of him because of love/respect/reasons.
This is not one of those novels. When MC transmigrated into a... more>> side-family with 9 girls and saw how the "family" abuses her and her sisters, she proceeds to protect the sisters instead of saving herself. The author also did not use any cliche tropes like sisters backstabbing or undermining each other to step ahead or any kind of similar dog blood drama and instead wrote sisters as full of sisterly love, women helping women.

It is very refreshing to read the story. And heartwarming too.

MC is OP, but not written as incredibly OP as usual for transmigration novels. She is armed with modern knowledge, brains and some martial arts knowledge. She doesn't go around kicking asses of martial masters but bandits.. No problem. She also uses her knowledge on what works and what will be popular in the future to get ahead in business and get rich.

I also liked that not everyone is perfect or readily accept her and her ideas.
Spoiler

The mother was abused for giving 9 daughters and 1 son, and observes how her daughters are abused. She is happy when they finally leave and live free. She is very proud of her daughters and feels inadequate because she feels she can only cook food for them but can't help them during the time they are trying to survive. But when the MC saw the only son hitting a maid and punishes him for it, mother is distraught and fights with the MC saying it is ok for the boy to be like this as all the properties they have right now will belong to the boy in the future anyway as he is the male. The mother observed her daughters make something of themselves, watched as MC took the family from malnourished and barely surviving to getting rich and living free and happy, she clearly had a front row seat on how women can be as competent as men and she still thinks it is normal for someone to have special privileges because of their gender.

[collapse]
When I read it I felt extremely disappointed with the mother but loved the story. It is not easy to change mindsets.

Towards the end of the book I started to get a little bored. Everything was fixed, there are no problems left to solve. Everyone is happy, content, and the author still kept going on how everything is going really well for several more chapters before ending. I felt it would have been better if the book finished couple of chapters early. <<less

This starts by dog-piling on the domestic violence, familial abuse, and neglect, so if you get triggered by that stuff, DO NOT READ.
Spoiler

That alone consumes probably the entire beginning (just shy of 1/4 of the series at 40 chapters).

[collapse]
It feels discomforting with how focused the author is on making the protagonist and her sisters and mother suffer (like it almost feels like their pain is being f3t!shized) , so -1.5 stars off just for that. I almost dropped it multiple times. What's worse is that the whole village knows about the maltreatment, but don't do anything cuz that's just the culture in China, especially during that period.

There's hardly any face-slapping, but our protagonist group also doesn't wallow in resentment, so it's forgiveable. The other -0.5 star was because the ending was far too rushed and just turned into summaries, even though the build up was pretty nice. I really wanted extras/side stories or more exposition on the 3rd sister in the latter part. I really liked her and her ending. The FL's own romance is a super slow burn, but feels organic enough, with all the events in the book; again, just wish it didn't get so rushed at the end.

Overall: +1 star for the characters, +1 for the premise, and +1 for the translation

Recommendation: If you can wade through the excessive DV
Spoiler

in the first 40 chapters

it's worth a quick, one-time read at least

I finished reading the MTL version.

Three main reasons why I enjoyed the story.

1. Familial Relationships - the sisterhood in this story is something you would rarely find in Chinese historical novels as most would pit them against each other. Our FL knowing the hardships women have to suffer during ancient China, never belittled nor saw her little sisters as baggage. As the eldest, she felt responsible in providing them with a good life and a secure path without having to rely on marriage with a man. She encouraged them to... more>> learn different skills that would aid them in their future endeavors. I also appreciate that she educated her little brother on how to properly treat women given they exist in an era wherein women are mostly treated as commodities. Her sisters touched by her efforts and inspired by the actions of the FL, would go on to grow as talented and independent women like her.

2. Independent FL that can stand on her own even without ML - I admit the ML did help the FL start her business but this wouldn't have happened if FL didn't have talent for business. ML may have helped in the beginning but it was all the FL's hard work, talent, skills and creativity that made their business expand and flourish. She was the one putting out the ideas and doing all the work with the assistance of her family. The story mainly focuses on her developing her business until she reaches the point wherein she won't have to worry about herself and her sisters being sold off to men and having enough capital and power to protect themselves from the unfairness of society towards women.

3. ML respects and acknowledges FL abilities - The ML saw FL's potential so he invested in her. The ML never treated the FL as a damsel in distress. You could say one of the reasons he fell in love with her was exactly because of her intelligence and business ability. He always respected her decisions, he would provide her assistance here and there but he's aware that the FL can stand on her own so he never oversteps. I do admit, that the age gap is still an issue for me. If I remember correctly the ML did start showing signs of liking her when she was a minor, though he didn't really act upon it. Their relationship becomes only official when she becomes an adult, and he did go through certain trials before they actually progressed to marriage.

so yeah overall enjoyable read~ <<less

I’ve been looking for a good CN novel about reincarnation/transmigration and saw the score and positive reviews so I tried this. It’s been a while since I last wrote a review so here are my thoughts:

What I like

Spoiler
  • No eye-rolling super powers (medical, assassin, cook, etc) MC only knows basic self-defense skills
MC exact revenge without being too cruel
  • No exaggerated repetitive description of ML’s handsome look
  • No annoying shameless female characters vying for ML (The only one engaged with him doesn’t even like him)
[collapse]

What I don’t like

Spoiler
  • Story is too slow. I felt that it was stretched especially at the later part when the sisters are getting married one by one
  • Story is too smooth, not too many conflicts. MC at most only has to deal with small villains like the Yue family or those who are either jealous of her or eyeing her wealth. Would be great if there is some conflict on her business side of things (ex. Corrupt stewards, her business offends a noble, business rivals appearing, natural disaster, etc). I think it will add more flavor to the story given there is not much conflict on the ML side and her Su family side
  • Lack of closure for some characters. I might’ve missed it because I read the MTL, but I did not see what happened to the doctor that helped her several times when they were in the Cuifeng village or Yue grandparents? There are other minor characters, but I thought given the slow story it would be mentioned at least 1-2 lines
[collapse]

Overall, this story is good if you are tired of the endless OP female leads and just want to read one where the MC is realistic. I definitely recommend it for reading.

At the beginning I was impatient but the later stages were smooth and fast paced. Their struggling days at the beginning was described in detail and their later growth was mostly multiplication of assets and businesses which were briefly mentioned. I was sad that the dialogue in description didn't actually take place but the overall story was still quite nice.

Its a bit hard to mtl for me, but roughly can be understand.

MC is the back bone of her family consist of 90% girls. She also not a kind person, (eg she doesn't give any support when there's a war going on, she was well aware what the war will done to the people since she used to be a soldier? Well she can feed the poor with all the money she had, but no, she bought shops cheaper due to the economy down that time) she's cruel toward... more>> the bad guys, doesn't give a sh*t toward other irrelevant people, meanwhile she's treats the people under her very well, well she's a merchant after all, not a politic.

What can I say is MC doesn't have a soldier quality other than knowing how to fight, she doesn't have any soldier morales.

The ML are okay but kinda creepy to me when he sniff his clothes all day after he accidentally hug the MC. Well its cute maybe if the person are handsome? But still creepy to me.

The story are okay to me. <<less

Was a good weak to strong book. Everything was at a very realistic pace, thought I found the romance to be a little let done.

The FL showed that nothing is impossible for women.

I would have liked to see the original family's expression when they found out about the prosperity but Third aunt's husband seemed an accurate portrayal.

Spoiler

My favorite part was the spanking of the rude little brother

[collapse]

The book also showed that domestic abuse leaves traces even when you leave the situation.

it's a good novel. Unlike other cnovel where the MC is OP. But in this novel, MC is not OP.

Spoiler

i just don't like how she treat the chen? Daughter that came to her to inform about her father try to kidnap MC and in exchange she want to ran away from the abusive chen household. But MC treated her like a dirt. MC have little empathy. She should know how to be in the abusive household.

This novel put me into such a negative space. I have read a lot of ancient stories but the blatant misogyny really disturbed my spirit. Listen to other reviewers and start reading from ch 40. Even with that warning, know that this is a very triggering read full of plot holes for those who understand economics, politics & gender studies.

Edit: This turned from a rational review to a rant about how unlikeable the characters were. I didn't like the MC & ML much either.

  • I purely detested Mother Su. I never felt pity for how she took the abuse and did nothing to protect her children in Yue household. It was always evident that she was male identified. I lost all respect when she insinuated that all the wealth the 8 daughters had worked hard for would be left to the son. She remained weak minded until the very end.
  • The ML was just a chaebol throwing a tantrum. I couldn't see how he was a wise/shrewd businessman. I thought he was unworthy until the end.
The MC

  • The MC might not have had a system & was definitely hardworking. But she was definitely OP because she inexplicably succeeded in everything.
  • MC grew and switched businesses too fast.
  • She was extremely impulsive & tolerant. She bought so many servants that needed to be trained up. She took in so many people with a heart of Bodhisattva.
  • Her ingratiating and humble attitude towards ML and Xiao family wasn't endearing.
  • Her filial attitude to an undeserving mother. (I just can't respect that woman).
Overall, the story has issues with pacing. MC achieves success in a short time, in a restrictive period. All major plot points are so anticlimactic

  • Ending of Yue family
  • Ending of 5th prince who had terrorised the empire for years
  • The emperor peacefully died
The extra star is for the good translation.

This was an enjoyable read featuring a smart and competent female lead. I liked how close the family was and I enjoyed their rags to riches story. My only gripe is that the ending felt a bit rushed and there were a bit too many characters so some of them weren't very fleshed out.

I really love this story even though the first 40 chapters were a bit hard to read due to constant abuse and violence that happened to MC and her sisters. Yes, although MC was a transmigrator and a former soldier, she wasn't OP at all. She also had a body of child who was weak and helpless so she could only endure until she had a chance to get away from her toxic family with her other sisters.

However, although MC wasn't OP, her journey to become wealthy was considered smooth... more>> sailing from the beginning. She never had any mishap and all her employees were very loyal. Consequently, the story became a bit boring. Romance department also didn't help much to make the story more colorful because MC and ML barely had any interaction throughout the story.

Another thing that made me disappointed was the small number of face slapping.

Spoiler

The author only mentioned in passing that the Eldest branch went missing after they fled from their hometown. I couldn't help but to think, "That's it?" because the first branch and the old madam were the one who abused MC and her sisters the most so I really looked forward to how MC would sort them out in the future. But I'm destined to be disappointed because they're out of picture before MC did anything.

[collapse]

And what happened to the wandering doctor in MC's former village who was forgotten by MC even though she promised that she would repay him in the future? She also didn't ask about his wellbeing before and after the war. <<less

Highly recommend!!

This are 1 of the Best transmiggration novel!

Although the FL, originally an-ex-soldier from modern world... her conscious toward new surrounding & her own abilities level is really high.

Unlike those novels with their fl's, 'jumping-clown-peacocks' showing off their ego being "people from higher civilization".. disturbing the world flow here & there.. while their ML follow behind, wiping their women s*hit.

The couple (FL & ml) here much more coolhead & matured.

Thnks to the translators for their hard work

It was an enjoyable read.

MC is not so OP, I like following MC day to day struggle (although it passed by "too" smoothly).

Spoiler

I came looking for the face slapping drama, but it's not. The enemies dealt speedily without much detail.

I lost my interest when MC got ultra rich and there's even royal dispute, it feel forced.

This novel is not bad, it's just very different from the usual CN novels set in ancient times. Here, the heroine doesn't have a cheat or a golden finger to allow her quick and easy success. She has to work little by little. And since she was reborn in this world (rather than directly transmigrating in another person's body), she has deep entanglements that cannot be let go even if, logically, it should be possible for her to do so. In this way, it's really interesting, but I ended up... more>> dropping it early because the MTL was a bit hard to read, and I'd prefer to wait for the TL to finish to truly complete the novel.

SUMMARY: The FL of the story, who was a soldier from modern times, found herself being reborn as the first daughter of the 2nd Branch of Yue in a rural village. The novel picks up when she's 11-12 years old. She now has 6 younger siblings (all of whom are girls), and her mother is pregnant with another two of unknown danger. In all the years she's lived in this family, she was oppressed because her mother was unable to birth a son for their father (who was also not favored in their family). The first arc of the story focuses on the struggle of young girls in this patriarchal era where sons were favored over daughters. Without a cheat in her hands and her body too young and weak, the FL has no choice but to grit her teeth and wait for the opportunity to separate her mother and younger sisters from the family. As for the ML, he's not really a big player here. But his name is Xiao Linyu, and he's the son of a wealthy merchant from the capital.

THOUGHTS: All in all, this novel definitely has its merits! It does get a bit boring at times, tbh. I usually like poor-to-rich stories and business management, but the author didn't really handle that aspect well (at least, it got more and more casual as the story went along -- it's not the focus). If I have to describe what this story is about, I'll refer back to the theme about the patriarchal society of ancient times. Again and again, that's the main source of the conflicts.

For now, I won't be rating this! But, if I were to, I think it would be somewhere around 3/5 (specifically, 3.45/5. Just short of rounding up to four stars.) Maybe that impression will improve in the next reread though! We shall see. <<less

I haven't made up my mind whether I like this or not because at ch 46, things are only starting to get better for the sisters. I hope that there will be retribution for MC's father, grandparents, and other relatives. They are abusing children! Reading those scenes can really make one angry. The most hateful character is the grandmother. She always yells at the sisters that they're "money-losing things." Following her logic that female = money-losing thing, isn't she a money-losing thing herself? She's really hateful.

I will wait for more... more>> chapters to be translated before I read this again. <<less

Really enjoyed the first half of the book but the second half got quite boring. The romance between the ML and MC could have been good since there was quite a bit of struggle but it was covered so quickly and without much description. The sisters were also not really well developed other than You Yin and You Bao.
