I Don’t Want To Be An Ojakgyo

Description

I was reincarnated as the supporting character of a novel.

As a wingwoman in a depressing romance novel titled at that. Romance is out of the question, and the future of my family is ominous because of debt.

I was going to become a civil servant to gain some of the splendor I never got in my last life…but the male love interests are acting kind of strange?!

“Just think about it, does Shushu look like someone who would blush and act shy?”

“Wow…….that would be great.” Cory said as he stared at Hylli in a daze, and Yves frowned and whispered to himself.

“Should I just kidnap her…….”

Swan wrapped his face with both of his hands and stayed quiet. His face turned bright red. The blush turned his ears red.

Why are you guys fooling around, you’re supposed to be obsessing over the heroine.

The story of Shuraina West, Shushu’s reverse harem academy survival.

Note: Ojakgyo means wingman/woman!

This novel is pretty good considering this should be a casual read. It has it flaws if you look hard enough and if you find fault with it. Some commenters go above and beyond reviewing a story when in the first place it just stops other people from trying it out.

Although the story has some twisted world views, the premise itself was the novel Shushu reincarnated in is some twisted romance novel with obsessive male leads. Of course there would be a t/w.

The good thing I like about it is... more>> how she's not that OP and Mary Sue. And it doesn't highlight how "perfect" she is but focuses in the character's interactions. The romance is not that deep, as expected of a middle schooler's romance. If you like these kinds of stories you should give this a try. <<less

Masterpiece! The small details that seem unimportant actually play a big role in the plot! There is no such thing as a loose end. The FL is a very smart and rational girl, she's unique in her own way. The emotional rides make my heart up and down, ughhhhh a lot of onions for me!

I really like this novel!!

The beginning started off fluffy and cute, but when it came to the 3rd and 4th arc... Damn, it really went deeeeeeep. Especially the 4th arc (duke's son, Swan's arc), it really made me cry, because of his past with MC ㅠ_ㅠ (tbh, im rooting for him to be the main ML. But I know that there are different endings with different MLs hehe)

Also, I love that the author didn't make OgFL a bad person!! She has her own arc, and her friendship with MC... more>> is so heartwarming wuwuwuwu

Still not yet done reading but I love it already

5/5 🌟 highly recommended

update:

F*CK Shushu's past life was one emotional rollercoaster ride (;ω;)

I just keep loving this novel so much ughhh. If you want to read a novel that you think is cliche, but in reality, it's actually not, then this novel is for you <3. The more you read it, the more suprised you become. Like, I didnt think that the story would actually go down like this!

My rating is still the same hehe:

🌟5/5 HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! <<less

I enjoyed reading this up to this point, and I may continue to read it afterwards. However, I need to rant a little about some things.

I will start with spoiler-free, positive remarks. I found it to be funny, and I enjoyed the characters. The first 4 chapters were a little difficult to get through because I usually don't read translations I have trouble understanding. They were still understandable, but I had to work at it a little. After that, the translation gets much better. Very well done. I especially enjoy... more>> the MC and Hestia. Hestia has not been given much spotlight unlike the MLs we've seen, so I'm hoping for more. Overall, I recommend giving it a shot for at least 10 or so chapters.

Spoiler

Here are some specific things that bothered me:

  1. The comparison of magic to science. Science is such a broad term, is it supposed to be a specific science? Or is it saying that magic can be observed and experimented with in the same way as Physics and Chemistry? Then there is also the fact that she is for some reason the first to discover this system behind magic. What? There are schools in this world. Magic is the equivalent of a college major at these school, but somehow no one else has discovered there is a system? Human brains are literally hardwired to find patterns. She would not have been the first to discover the system behind magic.
  2. The MC's unique genius. MC is first to discover the system behind magic, WOW!!! AMAZING!!! SO SMART!!! MC is the first to capture monsters and study them while I felt that it was implying that people had tried and failed before. All she did was create a habitat for them. That is the only special thing she did. That and use pokeballs to capture them which isn't necessary just what she did. I'm sorry, but once again this is a basic thought process that would have been figured out if someone was actually trying to research monsters. This isn't some unique thought that requires a modern mindset.
  3. Early chapters when she meets the Crown Prince for the second time and Hazel, her roommate, for the first time (separate scenes, same complaint). She acts so different in these scenes then ever before or after. She is usually displayed as a mature, realistic, smart, and aloof person. In these scenes she was like a nervous 10 year old schoolgirl on her first day of school. If I'm remembering correctly, she was worried her roommate was going to bully her... She literally has all this unique magic and is the only girl we have seen in Swordsmanship so far. It just felt really out of place, so it was either a failure of characterization or a poor explanation of why she felt that way.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS NOVEL. Unlike any other novel, this novel primarily focus between friendship rather than romance. I love the attitude of the original FL, SHE'S ABSOLUTELY THE BEST, I love how she said that everyone's fine as long as it's not Swanhanden, though I can understand her opinion since Swanhanden is literally a psycho in front of everyone, even his father, but a total weakling/puppy in front of our precious Shushu. I also love how the crown prince treat Shuraina as his best friend and draw the line to... more>> maintain the brotherhood with FL, like at first I'm rooting for him since their relationship is a love-hate one though I'm proud that it remain as friendship since their friendship is absolutely the best, even in the side story, they remain as friends and never pursue the romance unlike the path of Yves, Swan and Cory.

Among the three male leads I give my support to the Duke, Swanhanden. He may be literally the best ML among the candidates since he knows the past lives of FL and help her to say goodbye to the siblings of FL from past life. He's absolutely a puppy in front of his beloved Shuraina and I found it cute. <<less

It has a great premise for a cliche and unoriginal novel. But the execution was very terrible. If you can stomach disregarding or turning your head away from plot holes, inconsistent explanations, force plotting and convenience plotting then you might enjoy this.

If you are a critical reader who likes criticizing books in a standard way then this will definitely not for you. This is a kind of book fit for readers who can put their heads in the clouds and don't mind being fed with cotton air candy. A little... more>> bit pointless but sweet. This is usually the type of webnovel that is in the staple category. You don't take this seriously and you might enjoy it. But that would be an insult to those well put webnovels existing out there.

The author sure do have potential and I can see he/she was trying to fix some of the problems of the book. The problem was it's so obvious to me where the fix up was made because it was done haphazardly and not even in the right place. Here's the thing, the author seems to thought the plot at the same time they're writing it. That's what we called instance writing style and that usually works on slice of life stories and adventure/ progression fantasy because the action you thought for that instance will be the bases for the next scene and you don't have to think more on how to create scenes so that it can lead to the scene you wanted to happen next. Like the goal is to be the strongest swordsman or wealthy farmer, you just have to put scenes where he fights monsters and dungeon the next; and selling rare yield vegetable and then next selling it to the city, this remove the burden of thinking complicated plots that ties scenes by scenes.

This book don't need instance writing style that the author definitely like to use since start of the story all through out to the latest chapters I've read. The author have the scene in mind of what they wanted to do but most of the time they force it to happen. Like they're making the MC dumb and reckless so that he can steal someone sword who happens to be the prince. They're making the MC a damsel in distress so the MLs can save her up when in fact she's been practicing the sword since a kid and been adept at using magic other people can't use. She's suddenly became thoughtless and immature despite being 30 year old in mental age so that she can be cute, innocent and naive when she was usually depicted as mature and level headed person.

The details with how things work with her life was just pull out thoughtlessly by the author. Like she was fixing magic things in the start but apparently she was a magical hacker or something who takes information from companies 20 chapters later so that one of the ML can hire her to do undercover and spy stuffs. Same with her employment to the 3rd ml, the poison he has and her talents who works only when convenient and stops when she needed to be in danger in order to be saved. Like she was initially training to do 2000 pushups, situps, and other exercise as a training regime from first ML but she's suddenly became tired, during the 4th ML arc, doing 50 jumping jacks, she only in 27 jumps when she can't take it anymore and has to fall down then her ankle was conveniently sprain so that the 4th ML can heal her, you have to know that those 2000 training regime was done year ago and done regularly but now she's weak in endurance, AND who can fall from just doing jumping jack and spraining your feet when your training stances as a swordman since you're a kid?

There's so many instance of force plotting, at first. I can stand it because this was usual in reading this type of novels but it's more apparent that this was the writing style the author was employing and not something he just can't avoid to do because they wanted to make a critical plot like those other books. Those can be excuse but the author in here was just being lazy.

The plot seems mindless now and I have to turn off some of my brain cells to continue reading but I finally decided to drop this down. <<less

I picked this delightful novel up after watching the first bit as a manhwa on a youtube channel. It's one of those stories that makes me laugh aloud several times. The realistic character development (actions align with motivations and overall character) kept me engaged. And the diversity of characters kept me guessing. When the storyline evolved enough to have 3 major contexts/conflicts, I was already seriously committed to the plot.

Moonlike translations did a fabulous job. I didn't hit any grammatical stumbles until the 45 side stories. And those were mild.

My... more>> only "complaint" was how the author resolved the relationships with the leads.

I hated being given 4 options for the finale without a single clear decision made by the lead. Really... who did she end up with--the prince, the magician, the beautiful dragon descendent or the merchant guild leader? <<less

So I didn't have much expectation with the romance from reading the reviews, so wasn't that disappointed.

The writing is fine, just that the writer doesn't go straight to the point of story. So many chapters with nothing much happening or could easily be shorten. And perhaps if the arc is interesting then ok but after the first year at school arc, it was just so boring that my interest vanish.

Maybe I'll read this again in the future if I got curious how it end, otherwise, meh. I don't recommend it... more>> unless you want slow pace stories. <<less

Point to point narrative with layers of stories. The dialogues were a bit bumpy for me at the beginning but it gets better.

Gotta say it was so much more than I was expecting. Title and synopsis made it seem like any other otome campus story (which I prefer by mood) but its much more heartfelt and deeper than that. Hmm, I’m not gonna say more about the happenings cause it’s more enjoyable to read and be braced by surprises. As I said, it’s layers of stories, not just one or... more>> two.

Characters are very well done. At first they gave the impression of a stereotypical flower fairy og!fl, arrogant prince, lazy beauty, angelic psycho, and sleezy charmer but they were more than that. I enjoyed delving deeper into their own stories and personalities, and I loved reading their own perspectives. While bad experiences cannot excuse evil, you willunderstand how they came to that and can’t help but hope for them to find peace and happiness. (Them in the current timeline, not before).

Also, just putting it out there— the seemingly random melancholies, sadness, and a few wishy-washy decisions MC has is kinda a symptom of depression which wasn’t stated anywhere in the story but I’m assuming the MC does have depression, which is pretty reasonable considering she remembers her past hardships. I’m just saying in case you get confused by the sudden changes MC has. Plus, her longing for a romantic relationship
Spoiler

I got frustrated and confused at first in the part with that b*tch Eric. But upon reflection, I understood her. Kinda. I also had a period when I longed for romance and was just about to entertain any interest shown my way but unlike Shuraina, I’m more self aware and realised I long for the relationship itself but it can’t happen with just anyone, it has to be with the right person. Moreover, it has to be when you can;

Can love yourself - it’s ok to have insecurities, one way of looking at it is to strive for self improvement but you have to know self importance.
Can love someone - liking someone is easier and different from loving someone. In love, you embrace them whole, the good and the bad. In loving someone, can you forgive?
Can sustain a relationship - any type of personal relationships are two ways. It can’t just be you or the other. It has to be both, any otherwise is abuse. Unconditional love is bullsh*t. It’s impossible to not have expectations. Can they meet your expectations? Can you meet their expectations? Can they forgive you if not? Can you forgive them if not? Can you bothmake concessions and find a middle ground? Self-improvement is a matter of one’s own choice. Will they improve themselves for you? Will you improve yourself for them?Respect the other and be respected by the other. There’s no one way about it.
Mm, it turned into love lecture but I’m at least thankful I didn’t add on another dark past like Shuraina did with Eric LMAO

[collapse]

I love everyone’s wholesome (?) relationship with each other so I was badly hoping they stay platonic and only one turns romantic but well— 🙃So I was kinda happy with the ‘half-open’ ending but my curiosity be damned. But yeah I also enjoyed every extra chapters.
Spoiler

Swanhaden’s was basically cannon. I’m happy for him and yeah it was cute.

Cory’s was also cute, I rooted for him at first, but I thought the close friendship with him and Shuraina was good enough so I was selfishly hoping they stay platonic 🤭Selfishly, just because I was already torn apart with rooting for Swan or Yves and I wanted fewer candidates to end up hurt.

Same with Hylli’s. Hylli’s is kinda confusing to me. Well, double spoiler tag to this— He’s Yesoo, Ye-an’s brother in the other dimension so I guess his love for her is partially familial, partially friendship, but also partially romantic? But in the end his familial love for her reigns over his romantic love.

Finally, Yves. Oh, Yves. Yves who made translator scream “YVES” a lot of times. Since Swanhaden was basically cannon, I’ve been torn with worry for whatever will happen to him. His “If” extras made me cry so much. I feel so bad for him. Why, oh why, author, can’t you make their feelings platonic and just choose one. OTL I had to pause for one day before I continued to read all the other extras because of the hurt I feel for him.

[collapse]

Well aside from the lack of platonic relationships, my only regret is that the original sinners never got their deserved punishments. They created years long of such tragedy but they’re gone, body covered in fake gold and glory, their sins still unknown to everyone else. <<less

Recommended!!!! Its a good novel guys. You should give it a try :)

For me, this novel is a rollercoaster of emotions. Some chapters are thrilling, dark and sad. Some chapters are funny, sweet and fluffy - leaving me all smiles when I read it. I love it!

I love the stories. I love all the characters. I usually don't really like harem novels, I mean, sometimes its unrealistic to have a really really perfect girl to have 4 man go crazy for 1 woman at the same time and usually... more>> in this case, the relationships will lead to some sad false hopes when something happened between FL and the second and other ML. Or maybe I just love lots of them that I don't really know who to choose and ship as a couple :) just kidding. Yeah, but seriously, I have to say I love loveee this novel. There's 4 ML here but I love each of the relationships between the FL and each ML. I think its so well written that each and every relationship between each of the ML is beautiful in its own way and most importantly, its still realistic and I don't hate the time FL spend with the each ML. Rather, I love and cherish each of the relationship between them. Really, its cute, its precious and beautiful <3

Spoiler

I love how the ending develops with an open ending like this, its just felt unique. And,

I definitely definitely love Swan! I think I have to declare that from now on he's one of my fav fav ML from many many novels I read :") Seriously, he's pure and sweet in his own way. Our pure and innocent Swan hehe XD

Personal rating for the first 80plus chapter :5/5 star

After 80 plus chapter: 2/5 star

The story is about a girl, who at the age of 5 found out the truth of the world she lives in. She gave up her love and decided on getting a high paying job. Blah Blah Blah.

What made me love this novel was how annoying and second-hand embarrassment I felt for each character that after their character arc make me love the hell out of them. To the point where when I finally decided that they... more>> are enough to be the Male lead the next character seems to win me over. Even the Heroine that I found dull and useless had a hold new outlook after it.

So I was having such a high expectation since there was 100 + chapter left remaining. Yet everything turn passive right after the heroine arc ended. I thought it was simply the second character arc but it wasn't.

The character doesn't communicate with Shushu, the MC. They only communicate with one another and prevent each other from being close with the MC which lead to passive talk between them. And since it's written in Shushu's POV. its even boring knowing full well that she doesn't know anything but everyone is just suspicious around her.

The writing style turned passive. There are less dialogue and more... 'A told B about the incident' sort of thing. So we couldn't care less when things actually happen.

I will probably drop this or read another novel before trying again. Once that happens, I might rewrite the review if my opinion changed. <<less

Character developments are there.

Thanks for the TL, overall, it was good. The effort for this, from translation, importing comments, importing fanarts, to using google drive for backup even if the inevitable takedown happens.

I absolutely LOVED this novel!! I found it funny and interesting. There were parts that made me cry, too (her past 😭). Overall, I really enjoyed reading it. I want to make it clear to prospective readers that this isn't really a harem novel. It's barely a romance novel.

If you want to know more about the romance specifically, read this:

Spoiler

There is no romance until the extras. During the main story, one of the 4 MLs is blatantly in love with her (we learn this not long after we meet him), one of the 4 MLs is heavily implied to like her quite a lot, one of the 4 MLs is kind of hinted at liking her, and the last of the 4 MLs seems to view her as more of a sister. However, there aren't any romantic interactions until the extras. The FL is extremely dense when it comes to this. But, the extras are great! The author gives an ending for each of the MLs, 3 of the 4 being romantic.

[collapse]

Give the story a chance. There is one major hurdle you will have to get past, and that is the organization of the story. There are "side stories" that provide context to the main story, but they are just dropped in sporadically. It is a little jarring. But stay with it. It's worth it! <<less

Absolute favorite. Most of the less than 5 star reviews seem to have not read the whole thing before reviewing. I hope they eventually read the complete novel because it is that good. I really appreciated that MC’s past life was really addressed and woven into the storyline unlike other transmigration stories. Those chapters really made me tear up. Might be biased but, I love this book.

The comedy in this book is funny. I really love the humor.

Mostly fluff and slice of life despite that, there's also some chapters that is dark, which balance it (Amazingly, they put a Tl;DR at the end, which helps a lot to understand the story)

The character was written amazingly and have deep personalities, especially the Main Characters.

... more>> Love Cory and Yulinelle (Duke Blanche). The Duke was hilarious

Though it feels kind of lengthy at times, at certain problems.
