Chill hoarder MC who builds the best town during a apocalypse. The ending really sucks though,

Spoiler

Everyone loses their memories of the whole apocalypse! WTF, why even bother then?

[collapse]

Romance: the ML pursues the MC by giving her lots of materials (bc she's a hoarder) but the MC never returns his feelings. Last chapter kinda hints that they'll get together in the future though.

A laid back short story about a squirrel beta player survivor who builds the best base by having common sense and hoarding every item she can lay her hands on.

If you're looking for a not too serious apocalypse story with a female protagonist who isn't blinded by love (girl is denser than a neutron star) then this is the perfect read to pass some time with! Yun Ling is a great protagonist: she's not altruistic but she's fair and does her best to keep her territory running smoothly without compromising... more>> her own situation. <<less

This novel is one of my favorites simply because it's so chill. Lmao, so I love the mc's hoarding tendencies like a pack rat. It's almost comedic and it's definitely a territory building-esque novel with little romance. The romance is vaguely hinted at and we definitely know who the ML is but they never actually get together though it's alluded to at the end sort of that they continue to meet or rather the ML is sort of pursuing her (explained at end spoiler).

MC hides her identity as the city lord from the start to avoid trouble which is super smart otherwise it'd be a pain in the ass. She's also definitely not cruel as she saves people multiple times and even helps people learn how to live without fighting, but also she's definitely not altruistic. She mainly does stuff for her own benefit like she helps the players gain materials because she wants to hoard them under the name of 'system collection'.

She reminds me of a squirrel with how much she continues to stockpile lmao.

The game is super interesting and it frequently jumps POV so you can see what it's like for people outside the territory or people who are living at the bottom of the territory's social class or whatever. I adore some of them and want others to disappear. Because the MC is so relaxed due to her op setting, you almost feel like you're reading one of those kingdom building games but fortunately the tension is brought back by other side characters sometimes. I actually really love the survival aspect more than like full on action or fighting so it suited my tastes more that way. Most of these people from other pov's don't just disappear but they're also mostly not integral to the story so they do fade after the POV switches.

Ending felt like a bit of a cop out, but other than that it's good:

Spoiler

basically everything reverses and they go back to the beginning before the apocalypse and I think most people lose their memories. MC does but ML doesn't somehow? Not really explained why he keeps his memory but he tries to find her in another game at the very end because he realizes he likes her even though she really didn't catch the hint before.

It was nice and engaging. The plot summary may be enough for you to decide whether or not to venture further.

MC (Yun Ling) is a hoarder through and through. ... more>>
Spoiler

She's as ironblooded as the system in setting prices and in condemning players who act unjustly and unrighteously. She is EXTREMELY low-key and farsighted as a Lord. I look up to how she handles territorial affairs cleanly and standing by as people get stronger— letting them learn how to fend for themselves (most of the time with low-key help from her). Finally, she is a piece of wood and if it were not for being particular to paying back favors, maybe anything close to "romance" is non-existent.

[collapse]

About ML (Lu Chuan <3)...

Spoiler

Expect a lot of dowry offerings. He started it and the exchange of marrige gifts between two people came unendingly from then on /jk kukukuku. It's kind of unexpected how ML is so similar to MC— maybe it's because they're both gaming gods? ML is also an "I-don't-like-owing-favors" kind of person. He supports people as much as he can (particularly MC). And frankly, in romance these small things matter very much. Thus, contrary to popular beliefs that romance (including courtship hekhek) here is close to none (partly because MC is more woody and denser than ML), I think it's plenty and much warmer than the big gestures and proclamations.

[collapse]
I hope you'll also like Lu Chuan as much as I did (still do) :>>. <<less

It was interesting to read about a tank female MC. I don't know if it was the original writing or the translation but the novel sounds very mechanical. It just doesn't seem to have emotions in it. It feels very awkward to read and brings it to mediocre. Also there's an excessive amount of people praising the camp the MC built, which in turn seems like the novel praising the MC for being so smart. I don't think she's that smart, I just think anything else besides her are a... more>> bit dumbed down.

If you want to read this, then go ahead. It's not overly bad. It's like a pallette cleanser between novels. It's not anything great though. <<less

Pretty good! It was a more unique take which I enjoyed a lot. Colony Sims are my absolute favourite type of game so this story checked some pretty big boxes for me that I didn't know I wanted until I stumbled upon this one.

I will say though that it does "gameify" the story quite a bit which might not sit right with some people when it comes to human life. You're never not reminded that it's a game though. If I had to label it, it's similar to the Japanese... more>> genre like those of Sword Art Online or. Hack// (if you're old enough to remember that one).

Being a fellow hoarder in all the games I play, I can resonate strongly with our MC. That nagging feeling with the need to stock up on everything on the off chance that maybe it might come in handy later or become more expensive. I can understand that feeling of satisfaction.

I noticed some reviews mention romance; there is just a smidge and really only sort of teased at the end. Don't come in expecting any of that!

There were some noble sacrifices made later on that would have otherwise been quite sad but with the reality of the "game-esque" vibe to the whole story there were no tears shed.

Some cons I felt were that there wasn't much character development with our MC almost breezing through 'content'. It might become a bit boring or monotonous with the constantly mentioned NPC shop refresh and frequent time-skipping. I can always trust Dreams of Jianghu to pick a non-offensive, calm (?), lighthearted story that I can enjoy! It's a short one, unique, and funny enough to get some chuckles occasionally. Would recommend. <<less

Just finished it and I can say its a great read! I have a very specific standards when it comes to protagonists, and although the personality of the female lead here is not that well developed, there are many redeemable qualities presented in the story. The side characters are given enough screen time, and even some of the extras have their own stories.

I am also surprised with how there is not much drama going on in the novel. Especially the part where ... more>>

near the end, where there are only a few towns left and then ant arc comes on lol. The system announced that there only need to be more than 100 survivors and the world wil be saved. So they all unanimously gave their materials to the MC's city so atleast that city can survive.

[collapse]

All in all, the novel is mostly laid back hoarding with slight tension (?) since there are some fighting going on with a lot of game elements.

Also, kinda unsatisfied with how there are multiple plot holes that have gone unmentioned in the story like:
Spoiler

where did the system come from? How did the ML retain his memories? What about all the other side characters? And most importantly: What happened to Zhao Xintong after all this >: ( (

[collapse]

Honestly, my fave character in the novel even when he only appeared in less than 10 chapters. <<less

If you love a story about hoarding, ruling, town management, AND MOAR HOARDING

this. Is for you

i absolutely love hoarding element in apocalypse. And to find this kind of rare novel is a big happy surprise

the romance might be too slow or subtle for some. But I like bow soft it is

the only negative thing I can think is how op and relaxed the MC is. It doesnt feel like a death situation but more just a game. When its not

Short but fulfilling read!

I like how the MC didn't pursue strength. I like the plot too. It portray how people really passed the apocalypse. It shows that not only strength is needed in those kind of situation.

There is no romance but worry not, it didn't affect the story. Even though there isn't a romance ML? Is there and stay by MC side all the time.

The ending is amazing. I thought that April 1 in the beginning is April Fools but I didn't expect that it will be used like that... more>> at the end of the story. What a bright mind! <<less

A very mechanical story, but I liked it. Also very ideological. Author seemed to firmly believe in the ethical free market. That's basically what the entire story is about.

When troubles arise, as long as the leader is a good person, nothing will go wrong, is what the author is saying. But tbh, Yun Ling is a menace 💀 with the same hands that can do wonderful, selfless things, she can also do the most outrageous, capitalistic, bourgeois exploitative behaviour 💀💀

I overlooked it though, because she made a decision right at... more>> the end that made my socialist heart happy. I would have liked to read a few hundred more chapters.

I would have liked to see her confront the issue of s*avery with the NPCs, but that might have been too much to ask for 💀💀 at least give them a living wage or something, now that we know that they have thoughts and feelings 💀💀

The "romance" with Lu Chuan was barely there and unobtrusive, which I liked. Overall, could have been longer. <<less

It's a laid back novel. The MC isn't exactly the devil but wasn't exactly an angel as well. Although some may say she's cruel for being passive when everyone was dying, I don't think she's cold by being a bystander most of the time. Yes, many died, but those who survived in her city all knew how to feed themselves one way or another because they earn that life. One would say she put high price for system items, but it actually push the economy, people started to pick up... more>> their craft and trade with each other, letting life players also have incomes. All her preparation were proven right as another lord character who disclose their identity faced many harassment and undue blame. Don't underestimate people being shameless and selfish, especially in time of disaster, they'll look for anyone to blame their hard life.

In terms of romance, as others said, it's very minimal and mostly just hinted. But mind you, the two leads have a strong chemistry that you'll smile even when they doesn't flirt with each other. Their role and personality fitted each other that it wasn't force at all, and there's no romance yet even! The way they met was the cutest I could remember compare to other novels. MC was eyeing ML's weapon and ML actually talked to her cause he's also eyeing her weapon!

Lastly, there are only a couple of people who knew her real identity, it could be counted with one one. Though there are others who kinda get a hint but dismissed the idea. The funny thing was, the person who knew treated MC as a high ranking NPC that they needed to brush favourability with and later MC have no choice but to play along. They even said it was an epic quest of 'meeting the lord'. ML also joke about MC being an NPC. <<less

Fun short read if you like games, apocalypse themed, off-meta hoarding playstyle lol. Romance is a subplot but the author is quite witty at the end.

Regarding the ending..

Spoiler

Someone mentioned they wished that they saw results of the Wealth Halo in the ending but.. I took what Yunling said casually..

"As the lord of Lingyun City, my contribution is not low, I should be in the top three." Yunling looked at "Fortune Halo" and said jokingly, "What's the use of Halo? Can players win first prize in lottery? Can you give me a boyfriend?"

In the last chapter, she got rotten peach blossoms. There was a woman chasing to kill her because her ex-boyfriend dumped her because he fell in love with Yunling. Obviously... That very last sentence... Definitely got wealthy in that aspect, hahah.

Lu Chuan got his wish to meet her again and it seems his memory wasn't wiped so we can all imagine a happy future ending. :)

The novel was way more interesting than I expected. The characters were fun and the system torturing them was even funnier.

Although the MC was really dense romance wise it held my attention to the end. I just wish that that the ending was better. The novel started out great but the end was too anticlimactic and the plot holes left were kinda annoying.

Very satisfying read. A better version of the apocalypse farming "genre" that is similar in the Reborn Otaku, with a female hidden lord of a village. Very slice of life, the MC is quite mentally strong and also strong in game. Do be warned that there is basically zero romance in this, since the MC is almost emotionally ignorant. Feels a little bad for the ML. It is a little strange that the ML was able to keep his memories, and there is no real explanation for why the game... more>> became what it did. <<less

I binge read this novel in two days. It was completely worth it. The MC was a competent female protagonist, which was what hooked me in in the first place. What made me stay was the flow of the novel as well as the unique tasks and pits that the novels had. The MC was not OP (not too much) and was very believable. Her personality was great. And she wasn't afraid of spilling some blood either.

The side characters were not 1D (though there were so many) it was necessary... more>> to understand the overall situation.

Overall I loved reading this novel. Especially the fact that the length of the novel was just right. The best part was that the ending wasn't rushed. And I thoroughly enjoyed the whole ride.

This has quickly become one of my top favorite novels, along with QT: Cannon Fodder Record of Counter Attacks.

MC is practical, friendly to all but draws a line at those who prey on others, especially the weak. She is a life skills/simulation gamer who loves hoarding items. She is a combat tank, killing enemies with reflected damage.

Very refreshing!

The author has a very deep understanding of psychology and human nature, which shows as we occasionally check in with a large cast of passerby characters. Some slowly become pillars of the community... more>> while others die unfortunately under the game mechanisms due to poor decisions or simply bad luck.

The game mechanics are very interesting and fun, I would play a game like this, provided it was, you know, a game, and not my actual life on the line. <<less

The MC is a bit of an autist, so is the pseduo ML but if you've played these kinds of games before you will understand exactly why they acts the way they do and will find yourself agreeing with it. It's an enjoyable read with no real heavy themes. People do die but it's nothing gory or traumatizing, just a consequence of the situation. No real romance and no s*xual violence. Honestly, it feels like it wouldnt matter if the MC was a man or a woman, an adult or... more>> a child. She just does what she feels is right and has a good moral character. Some times the other characters remind her about certain things she may have over looked, after all she is just 1 person trying to manage many things at once. Probably the most calm and relaxing apocalypse story Ive ever come across. <<less

The majority of the story focuses on the FL's solo efforts, and when needed she uses only NPC characters for any staffing in the team or for her domain.

Other than her constant hoarding obsession, levelling up, and foodie personality, it all feels very slice of life like. The author likes to pan over to random struggling characters in depressing towns of the game, or to display how normal people in her own domain are living up in the world.

In actuality, I found other characters and their interactions with everyone more... more>> interesting. It's a bit sad that the romance was barely non-existent, as the FL is too dense to notice anything and ML is barely in the story other than to have other side characters envious of his skills.

Overall, it's an ok read to pass the time. <<less

I loved it. The MC is so cool, calm and collected. The ML even though he does not play a big part is a perfect match for the MC. There is not many novels in this genre with female MCs and I'm very glad I found this treasure.

The start of the novel compelled me to continue reading. The ending was lovely and just so satisfying.

No chapters skipped because the pacing was just chef's kiss.

There was no annoying villains or side characters. Every minor character that had villainous tendencies were easily... more>> discarded of.

This is just too good! This is just too good! This is just too GOOD!

Important things must be said thrice.

Now for my review. This novel is like if slice of life has a game genre*cough*survival game*cough* It's oddly very slice of lify but packed with actions since everyday is in survival mode. The story just doesn't focus on the progress and story of the protagonist. The other characters's stories and growth is very entertaining. The romance is there but it's more on the mutual partnership to becoming stronger and surviving.... more>> The ML for me is rather sweet. Both him and the protagonist are reasonably OP. By that I mean they are reasonably powerful because they both worked hard, made smart decisions, and had the right attitude to get where they are. The MC, I admire her a lot. She's willing to help out of the goodness of her heart or business wise, but at the same time she doesn't let herself be taken advantage by others and can be decisive and ruthless when the situation calls for it.

The ending for me is the best. When I was at the chapter before the last I was already slamming my hand on the bed cheering them on. And it ended beautifully. The type of ending that is just perfect without a part 2 but since the story is so good you want one haha. Anyways it's a 10/10 for me. Will definitely re read again if I have the time.

For anyone reading this, Trust the 5 star reviews. If you're looking for a relaxing novel to read but also not want it to be a drawn out boring slice of life and want some actions and danger thrown into the mix to liven things up. This is for you. I keep on mentioning action but in reality it's leaning more on the slice of life. In summary it's about a reasonably powerful player who's job is to be a lord of a territory and doing what she do best hoarding, surviving, and thriving <<less

This a gem, short but very engaging. I would have gladly read 800 chapters instead of 80. The ending was a bit rushed and the main "villian" didnt meet the closure or explanation I hoped. Its a bit of a M Night Shama-lama-dingdong ending but on the whole it is 100% worth the read.
