A nice read all in all. It's the typical slice of life, complete with the tr*sh family, an entitled thot, "brothers" or ger (hence the mpreg) and a few twists and turns. Leads are likeable, He Ling started off as a shy and anxious character, then progressed to a strong young man who fights back and can give a bit*h slap or two. He's quite kind hearted, and he's lucky to have Qi Yue as his hubby.

As for Qi Yue, ohoho my guy has his secrets. He does love his... more>> wifey very very much, and will do everything to protect him. All he ever wanted was to live in peace in the countryside with his beloved. He's not really the domineering and cold type, he wasn't shy showing his affection. Just don't make him angry, and don't ever touch his wife, or even look at him wrong.
Spoiler

He's a sage doctor, but he wanted to be low key, so even if he's perfectly capable of treating people, he chooses which ones to help. Also being a doctor, he's perfectly capable of poisoning those who wronged his wife, and those who made the mistake of actually hurting said wife ends up getting broken bones. By him. So yeah..

[collapse]

And then there's the tr*sh family surnamed He. This family "raised" He Ling after his parents and grandma also died. He was their nephew, but was basically treated as that family's s*ave. He was a very beautiful person, as he got his looks from his mother, and this caused him some disdain from envious people, especially his aunt. He was also abused by the He family, especially He Zhen. Ling was lucky Qi Yue had his eyes on him.

This also actually has some nice revenge plots without being a rebirth/rewind genre. The sweet sweet revenge comes after He Ling gets wronged.
Spoiler

Except for He Zhen, that was such a nice long revenge plot. This is what I liked about Qi Yue's character, his revenge doesn't immediately kill people, he prefers to make them suffer for a long time. As I've said earlier, He Zhen was such a damn sonuvab*tch, he was so desperate for the MC that during the wedding day of our leads, that He family switched He Zhen and He Ling, thinking Qi Yue would be none the wiser, but alas, they provoked someone they shouldn't have. Ever. So yeah, the ever "gentle" Qi Yue made sure He Zhen suffered dearly for it. And that was just the beginning. In the end, that whole family got their just desserts.

[collapse]

For side characters, also loveable, I initially thought there'd be too much drama, but there really wasn't. The drama focused on the tr*sh family, and He Zhen's attempts on acting cunning. Emphasis on attempt. Well there was an attempt, at least he succeeded with his tomfoolery of his own family, but when it came to the leads, well...
Spoiler

one of the best moments in the story is when He Ling literally bit*h slapped the heck out of He Zhen's face, not once, not twice, but three consecutive times. It was so cathartic. This is also the time when the vengeance against him was fully realized. After getting bit*h slapped to hell and back by He Ling, Qi Yue pretty much laid out what happened and how he ended up with his sufferings. From the moment of deception during the wedding, how he (QY) secretly poisoned He Zhen to have an incurable disease that would require medicine for the rest of his life, and his choices whether to continue taking the antidote but will shorten his life span or stop taking but live the rest of his life being ugly. It was at this moment he knew he effed up. Too bad, his regret was way too late. On top of all that, he was also married off beforehand (or pretty much sold) to an old man by his family, thinking he'd give them money, so yeah, his life became miserable.

[collapse]

It's a short read, and although I enjoyed it, the ending felt a wee bit short for me. Would've liked a few more extras concerning some side characters. <<less

I'm sorry but I had to drop this. It's incredibly simple and predictable. Everything is either black and white. I rated it 3 stars because there is some charm and I can see some people getting enjoyment out of this but I can't.

Spoiler

Everyone in this story is either good or bad. I haven't read alot of chapters but, it just seem so black and white to me. The only grey character so far is the MC but, everything "bad" he does is justified. Not to mention everyone that are not the CP or their friends are complete idiots.

He Zhen so far is the dumbest villain I ever freaking seen. He is the ger cousin that is jealous of the ML. He is so embarrassingly dumb, it makes me feel bad for him. THE AUTHOR LITERALLY MADE ME FEEL BAD FOR THIS ABUSIVE a**hole. The main reason is that he is always the one getting punished. The whole f*cking family are f*cking disgusting, but the author wants me to believe that this 16 year old, should be the one that suffers the most. Are you kidding me? The parents are the ones the should have to suffer for the rest of their lives for abusing and torturing the ml. They should also get punished for rasing their son to become a vain obsessed little demon. But no, the author just continues to have He Zhen become worst and worst. Everything that family did He Zhen got the worst out of it. The author would then have he try to seduce a man that clearly doesn't freaking like him. Like no one can be that dumb. No one would put themselves into that much trouble, for an impossible outcome. But apparently He Zhen does. The boy is trying to nail water to a wall. His fake crying sh*t doesn't work but, he keeps on doing it. Well it does work on the other idiots.

The neighbors in the neighborhood are the most brainless mob I ever seen. The only ones that don't buy He Zhens act are of course the "good" people that don't believe rumours and later become friends with the CP. The ML family literally sold him off to a rapist and then He Zhen disguises himself as the ML to marry the MC. First of all, this is the dumbest plan I ever heard of. Who would ever believe that someone would fall in love with a person that tricked them into marrying them. Second of all, these neighbors really expected the ML to just say "hey, cuz I know you try to steal my husband on our wedding day, but we still cool!" Like are you kidding me.

I did read some spoilers to see what the author is planning to do with He Zhen, but I guess it's just what I expected. He gets worse and worse. Until there is literally no redeeming qualities left. Which sucks because I was hoping he would wake the f*ck and relieze that "hey! Maybe being a awful person isn't such a great idea after all. Maybe I should stop listening to my idiot mother since she clearly doesn't care about me!" But no He Zhen bad and ML is good. Yes this is basically Cinderella, but at least in the Disney sequels Cinderellas step sister isn't a mindless idiot and learns that being a evil crazy bit*h isn't doing her any favors.

Rant over, I'm out!

You know what?

When I read the earliest chapter, I think "what an amateur writing." (This is cause I already have a bias after reading the comments how the story is like Cinderella 🤣😌)

Also, about the cliche, it's really true. But instead to use the word 'cliche', I more like to phrases it as 'classic' 😎🤠

... more>> The flow of the story... humm 🤔 I can't call it really exciting but more like, the author can make me want to read the next chapter after next chapter 😗

It's like, when you eat something that have mild spiciness with nostalgic taste. You know how it taste but still want to eat it over and over again 😋😋

😂 We call something cliche not because the scene has been repeated again and again and make it not surprising anymore. But instead, we call it a cliche because, even tho the scene is being repeated, we still expect it to happen 👍🥰 and it's author's job to create this 'cliche' not boring when they are presented to the reader 🤭😉

Once again, good job author 😝🙌

Huft, , , anyway, I like this novel. Not the kind where I want to read it again in the future, but a relaxing novel that can you read at your break time 🙆💆

Thank you for reading my review and I am sorry if my English is bad, haha 😂, need to take more classes 😅🙃 <<less

It's not the worst. It's not the best. Like the other reviews, there's only "good" or "bad" characters. Everyone against MC and ML is bad, everyone with them is good. If someone does something hateful, MC is guaranteed to smile distainfully. ML is a white lotus that bad characters love to bully and MC loves to save. That's the story.

Spoiler

The best character is the horse who likes wine.

It's not my first time reading this kind of story (ger universe with farming setting, shou being tortured, gong helped him etc). There are sh*t ton of stories like this and it is also kind of my guilty pleasure or my comfort stories.

But God damn I was literally skimming through chapters.

If you're asking why... Well, I feel like the author threw so many fillers that I couldn't care less. Sure, I like revenge stories & lovely side characters but the story of the MAIN COUPLE... Sigh, it's barely there. It... more>> would be better to focus more on MC & ML relationship building, kinda slice of life-ish feeling, getting to know each other, feeling the countryside vibe... But NO. THEY SHOWED (too much of) HE FAMILY'S MISERABLE STATE AFTER HL'S GETTING MARRIED & HOW THEY'RE ALWAYS TRYING TO PICK ON ML. I'm taking 2 stars from this bcs I feel like the main couple isn't explored too well. They can take it slow with the main couple and get the other side character & revenge to ML family along the way/much later. <<less

Back to the countryside is a slice-of-life novel centered around the main couple Qi Yue, a miracle "doctor" who was tired of his life in the jianghu and decided to settle down in a small village in the countryside and his little wife He Ling.

He Ling is a ger who was raised and mistreated by his paternal uncle's family, working like a s*ave for the family. The He family consists of He Tian, (He Ling's paternal uncle and his wife Qian) as well as their two sons He Fu... more>> (and his wife Liu along with their child) and He Gui (with his wife Zheng) and the youngest child, a ger named He Zhen.

If we look at the summary, the MC should be the gong, that is Qi Yue, but the story is more focused on the shou's POV, as we get to see his emotions, thoughts etc more often than Qi Yue. His story, thoughts etc are mentioned more in passing or from some conversations. So I'll just say, the MC is He Ling. His father was thrown out of the family because he insisted on marrying He Ling's mother whose identity was unknown. The mother died during or shortly after childbirth and the father followed suit about 6-8 years later, leaving He Ling to be raised by his uncle's family.

When ML (Qi Yue) moved to the village, thanks to his handsome looks, wealth and medical ability, he was sought after by basically the whole village who all wanted him to marry their family's child. But in the end, he married our MC He Ling.

It is said that He Ling is the best looking person in the village, but because of bad rumors and some schemes which originated from the He family, he was basically an outcast among the villagers.

While Qi Yue concentrated his attention on getting He Ling, more or less everyone else concentrated on getting married to Qi Yue. The most insistant person is naturally the antagonist He Zhen.

He and the He family are the main antagonists in this novel, since basically the first 60+ chapters revolve around all the s*upid things this family does. What follows after that is the revelation of Qi Yue's past and the family of two travelling to the jianghu before finally returning to the village to life their sweet life.

Yes, the plot is easy to predict, the villains are s*upid and very much eager to jump into any pit that will make their lives harder, while the relationship between the main couple is sweet and sticky. We also have three side couples.

Namely the Lin family's young couple, who are neighbors to Qi Yue (Lin Sheng and his wife Wu Yulan and their son Xiao Hu), the young master from the town Zheng Yue Feng and the village-ger Xu Hua and lastly the two junior brothers of Qi Yue.

Overall you don't really need much brain to read the story, and I enjoy reading it every time. But if I have to point out what I don't really like about it, there would be two instances.

The first one is ML's reaction when MC is being pushed by his aunt.

Spoiler

MC knew he was likely sick but didn't want ML to worry, so he kept silent. During a confrontation between MC and his aunt, the former got pushed, fell down, fainted and nearly miscarried. ML got angry and instead of consoling his wife, he yelled at him and ignored im in anger.

I mean, okay you got scared and nearly lost your child and maybe even your wife (prior to the miscarriage, neither MC nor ML knew about MC's pregnancy!), but it wasn't his fault. It was the aunt who started the confrontation, it was the aunt who pushed your wife and nearly caused the miscarriage, but in the end even the others persuaded MC to apologize because ML was oh so frightened and worried. When in fact ML should be the one to apologize. Moreover, ML knows his wife's character very well and deliberately makes him feel even more guilty, without caring in the least how MC felt after waking up and learning about his pregnancy and being ignored and yelled at.

Seriously, this made me so mad. I don't like it when the already traumatized MC is being forced to carry the pot that should originally belong to his aunt. So after reading this the first time, since then I'm always skipping those two chapters during re-reading the novel.

[collapse]

The second issue is in fact the whole jianghu issue.

Spoiler

Starting with that guy who knew ML, showing up injured and flirts with MC (although I enjoyed it very much that ML was being set up by him like that. Serves you right!)

Followed by ML's two junior brothers showing up after that previous guy went back to the jianghu and very happily told everyone about ML's new life, ignoring the fact that ML didn't want to have anything more to do with the whole matter.

The junior brothers of ML are... I don't know what to say. Especially the ger, I didn't like him from the moment he appeared and still don't like him now. He's arrogant, annoying and my whole fur bristles just seeing his name. The way he treated MC and everyone else put me off. But again, this is only my own opinion, since I don't like such characters.

Afterwards, both the junior brothers and MC and ML went to the jianghu to find ML's master because there was some trouble. Moreover, MC was close to childbirth at that time. Personally I felt this whole jianghu-arc very much unnecessary. But that's only my personal opinion, especially since I expected a slow slice-of-life novel centered in the village. *sighs*

[collapse]

With the revelation of ML's past, there naturally has to occure some drama and surprising discoveries regarding MC. No plot can go without this after so much foreshadowing xD

But in the end, as I said, the couple went back to the countryside and lived happily ever after.

Throw your brain away, and enjoy a pampering slice-of-life novel in the countryside! <<less

Lol... so much rant towards such a cute and light novel, it's quite strange and ridiculous. I am glad I did not take into account all the negative reviews and I did enjoy it very much. Characters are coherent, behaviour and mindset consistent with that era, the dialogues are fun, QiYue was deliciously black-belly and wicked, the side couple was interesting and fun, and we even get a JianHu adventure in the mix. Yes it is a classic from-rags-to-riches cinderella type story, so what? I was not aware that the... more>> Cinderella trope was so shocking that ppl suffered an apoplexy attack over it lololol <<less

Translator here~

Besides of many protests regarding He Zhen character and He Family or some comments about He Ling, I personally enjoy the most the interaction between the main characters.

It's under Farming tag, although not much of farming in the story.

I like the most Qi Yue and Xiao Yu Heng's character in the story

Actually I hope there will be extra about Yun Su and Shen juming or Xiao Yu Heng. The ending is kinda rush for me. Overall, it's enjoyable reading for me while translating it

☑️ Greedy brain dead family

☑️ That one scheming white lotus shou who can't get over the gong and never learns his lesson

☑️ Irritating gossiping villagers who just take sides and discriminate without reason

... more>> ☑️ All good things happening go the main couple's friends and karma just keeps coming for those against them

☑️ Hidden identities revealed/ past catching up

The writing is alright and the flow of the story is decent. It's just that the general storyline isn't very good. More than one half of the story basically revolves around faceslapping a group of villagers ie the greedy family and the jealous villagers. There's no farming or business management or skill utilisation involved like the typical countryside slice of life.

The other half of the story (like the last 30 chapters or so) is the typical hidden identity power struggle drama jianghu version. The drama was a bit rushed in the sense that the plot itself wasnt much and had no build up and it was all quite predictable too:

Spoiler

the fact that there will be some jianghu drama, the savior when He Ling was lost, the 'unexpected' family member and the guy who wanted to take over the Valley Master position. No surprise anywhere : (

[collapse]

Everything happened quite suddenly and it isn't the most interesting. But, kudos to the author for writing it well and making the pace and flow good enough that it became a pleasant read. The epilogue is meh but I guess it ended on a sweet note.

The gong is on the very cruel side. Like he's so ruthless when it comes to paying back grievances that it's a bit scary and this is coming from someone who likes the black bellied protagonist type (I guess those that I've been reading is a wee bit gentle). I guess you can tie it back to his past and character set up. But he is super sweet and tender towards his Fu Lang 💓

The shou is the bullied and naive type that manages to learn how to stand up for himself and fight back under the love and care of the gong and his friends. There is a chapter that will make your blood boil and wanna smack him but it was resolved in the next chapter so stay strong!

Honestly it isnt very bad but it's not that good either. It's a solid 3.5. The plot was a 2 but the writing is a definite 4! The translator seems very enthusiastic and adds tons of definition and explanation (though the placement of the extras is a bit annoying) so a little extra for points for him/her.

Overall, if you're looking for a pleasant-ish ge'er world type of novel without much expection of it being a typical slice of life plot, it's recommended (the face slapping was quite decent but the brain deadness tsktsktsk). But if you're looking for a more farming/business management/skill utilisation type of slice of life novel this is definitely not for you. <<less

This was one hell of a ride for a laidback countryside read. Our MC, the gong, is a man with a mysterious background and the ML is an extraordinarily beautiful ger who is ostracised by his family and villagers. For a majority of the novel, it focuses on the fast blooming romance between the unlikely couple after MC falls in love at first sight and saves ML from his abusive family. MC is truly the most brutal sweet smiling man I've ever read, it's refreshingly terrifying!

Spoiler

MC is a powerful medicine and poison practitioner of Jianghu so I think you can see where we're going from here :)

    • MC poisons the disgusting ger who is favoured in ML's family so that his skin will fester all his life and he will be ugly without medicine
    • Following that, MC as the hidden boss of the medical hall, prescribes a powerful medicine that will cure his skin but the medicine hurts like hell and will eventually kill him (but MC doesn't mention this until the final confrontation)
    • MC kills the pe*vert that ML's family tried to give ML to (never actually proven but you just know, yknow?)
    • ML's eldest cousin injured ML in his attempt to rob MC & ML's home and in turn received a broken arm and a broken mind (he went insane) thanks to MC
    • I think MC did some more things but I was honestly so numb from his lethality that I just zoned out
      [collapse]
ML's family is probably the most screwed up novel family I've read recently! ≫: (MC deals with them with his mysterious skills and the lethality cannot compare to the common faceslaps in other novels. I feel enlightened and very scared so thankfully MC is not real.

Spoiler

besides the typical abuse and neglect + spreading rumors + that one disgusting favoured ger in the family so that ML cannot get married and will forever be their s*ave, they literally do the following??

    • drug ML the night before his wedding to MC and give the drugged up ML to a known pe*vert
    • attempt to fool MC and replace ML with the disgusting ger on the wedding day????

after the ger gets his due karma and married off to a 60-year-old rich man in the next village, in retaliation:

    • the disgusting ger schemes against his own brother and sister-in-law to sleep with each other by drugging them and using aphrodisiac incense
    • he literally hires people to injure a little kid so that he can spread rumours that ML is a broom star and everyone close to him will get bad luck??
    • once that doesn't work, the ger attempts to drug ML again but this time to abort ML's pregnancy! ≫: (

it was kinda nice reading the dogs biting each other as their schemes fall apart but dang, such ugly characters!

[collapse]

The story flow after the laidback village life turned quite stressful as MC's past opens up and surprisingly, ML has some stuff revealed too! Great stuff! Especially since this does not involve any transmigration or reincarnation. Rated this 4 stars because the schemes and action stressed me out so hard but it's a good read nonetheless! Definitely would recommend! <<less

It's one of those mindless brainless fluff novels.

There's nothing in here truly unique (except the seme protagonist), plotwise is completely the same as other farming-in-the-village novels.

All the characters feel like cardboard cutouts. Basically, everyone who is not on the side of the main couple (aka all the villagers) have a collective IQ of 1 amoeba. If you squint. And round up.

... more>> If you're looking for something that is lighthearted, forgettable, bland, this is it.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes after a stressful day at work, a 100% predictable slice-of-life fluff with super OP MC is the way to go.

Translator is new and worked hard, early parts were clunky, later on it got a bit better. I would just invest in grammarly (it's free) and focus on translating the intent of the sentence instead of the literal meaning. For the most part they did a good job.

Spoiler

example: na li (literally "where") but when used in speech means, "Not at all/No need/Don't to be so courteous".

A translation should have the intent of the speaker in the story so it doesn't kick the reader out from enjoying the actual story. If the you really NEED it, you asterisk and footnote it with the literal meaning, not the other way around!!

Speaker A: thank you so much omg you worked so hard
Speaker B: not at all no prob*

*na li (lit. Where), humble expression of blahblbahbalbh

VERSUS

Speaker A: thank you so much omg you worked so hard
Speaker B: where!*

* blahblbablblalblalbh

The ML who is too perfect.

The villain who constantly annoying.

The romance that cheesy too much.

Honestly, it got so cute after their marriage that I had to mtl the rest of the novel.

The pluses for me

  • doting gong (Qi Yue) with a mysterious background
    Spoiler

which is revealed in the later chapters

    [collapse]
  • mpreg where the baby is born and briefly appears to be cared for
  • spice, you may not see it but it's there lmao I'm licking up all the crumbs
  • shou is not that annoying - his growth could be less awkward but that may just be fantastic google translations
What made it taste a little bland was

  • the recurrence of abusive parents, scabbing relatives and jealous passersby
  • Shallow kind of characters - the second ML who appears the the latter half of the story, the family, etc.
  • pregnancy felt as if it was just to reinforce the idea of men being able to give birth (no particular detail regarding monthly cycles or whatever involving comes with having a womb and ovaries)
  • there is no more domesticity after the baby is born
I will reread after translations (not google lmao) are complete <3 would definitely recommend to those who don't mind a loosely-based-cinderella-trope (poor to wealthy enough to no think about the food) and consistent scenarios of conflict that look like plot but is not really.

Ger-verse, Gong/seme main character. I'd describe the MC as a "devil with a gentleman's face". The antagonists are stressful lol. That is, the ml's natal family. In the last arc Mc's background will be revealed. Meanwhile, major part of the story is filled with romance and some bit of faceslap (or rather MC getting revenge for ml). While the bun is just born in the end, the mpreg part take a big part of the story as the author take time telling its progress from conception to dangers and finally... more>> giving birth.

3.5 for me. It has the same old romance plot pretty ok, not memorable but can serve as a pastime. I'm here for the ger-verse tho. <<less

I really enjoyed it!! Worth reading if you want fluff and a bit off plot.

MC is quite a clasical MC in a wuxia, still cute tho

ML on the other hand, was a surprice, he was weak, pitifull, small and just like a puppy almost and a Saint btw but all in all he wasnt anoying..? He was Smart when he had to be, ruthless when he had to be and strong when it was nescesary... Honestly one of my favorite gers in all the books ive read

The villans... more>> where there and the plot is interesting in the sense that there is plot... Like it isnt just farming, bussines and food, this has some sustance and is quite enterteining even tho it is predictable. <<less

I enjoyed reading it very much.. You can feel the character's emotions by reading it.. The story line, plots and twists are very good.. MC is not that weak as everyone says and ML is very doting.. Reading this novel gives us a feeling of flowing water.. And all couples are very good.. It's kinda different from other ger novels..
Spoiler

ML is great at healing and poisoning
