One day, the self-proclaimed “Selective Bocchi” Kusuba Ren, saves Tachibana Rika, a beautiful girl who is called “Takatsuki no Hana”, by chance.

Rika forced him to get paid back, but his relationship with Rika did not end there. Their favorite shop is the same, they have a mutual friend, and they live next to each other. No matter what they do. They are, apparently, always together.

“Why are you here…”

“That’s my line.”

However, as they continue their routine, they gradually open up their hearts to each other.

“Hey, let’s go home now.”

“I think Kusuba-san is a good person.”

“I want to be friends with Kusuba-san.”

A love story of two opposites who become friends and then…

I didn't find it great, but good enough. The scope of characters and world was small and there were certain personality 'strengths' of the male lead that I found unrealistic, and I thought female lead's character development suffered towards the rushed end.

However overall the one point I really liked about this was how the author developed the couple's relationship bit by bit and where they got by the end. I found it really sweet and enjoyable without being forced or unrealistic.

Nothing special but the pacing is better then any romance novel I've read. Developing characters, ... more>>
Spoiler

becoming friends, then becoming close friends and then the confession all during one novel. And even better there's a second novel which expands upon their relationship rather then just ending it there.

[collapse]
The forced coincidences of them meeting might piss some people off, but come on, you're lonely af and reading about a romance of two high school 2D characters. Don't complain, just abstain. All in all, a novel worth reading and with loads of potential going into volume 2. <<less

Interesting enough series.

The story is rife with forced coincidences that exist to bring the two MCs closer together, but their actual interactions and development are executed well enough that I can honestly just ignore that completely and enjoy the plot as is.

Overall nothing revolutionary, but a solid romance that delivers well on its initial premise and doesn't have any glaring flaws so far.

Quite mediocre tbh. MC is way too negative for my liking, describing himself as a mob who doesn’t need friends. I’d understand if he underwent bullying or isolation from the rest of the classroom, but that’s not even close to the truth. I get his reasoning behind not wanting to form friendships, as it’s true to a certain extent, but he simply takes it to the extreme of not wanting to interact with anyone at all. Has no confidence in himself at all, just an overall coward. Sure, he gets... more>> a tiny bit better toward the end of the volume, but meh.

FL is a bit better as while she shares similar thoughts to the MC, she isn’t afraid of others thoughts nor entirely isolates herself from others and knows how to appreciate the few friends that she does have.

The romance wasn’t all that great either. I guess I like the gradual buildup, but it felt forced how everyone of their hobbies and taste coincided with each other at every turn. The two characters are too identical to one another, so there’s hardly any diversity.

As for the side characters, wasn’t a fan of them beside the MC’s best friend. His girlfriend was too overprotective of the FL and mean for no reason at times to the MC, while the FL’s other best friend was helpful, but simply too sadistic. Felt that the author made each of their personalities too extreme.

There’s a second volume, but I’m not even tempted to read anymore of this novel based off of the summary of what’ll be about. The first volume does more than enough to establish things, not a fan of unnecessary angst like jealousy and 3rd parties jumping out of nowhere to disrupt relationships.

Wouldn’t recommend reading, but it’s at least short enough to read in a single sitting. <<less

This story is good with a cute romance, no harem, and actual progression that's not too slow-paced. The translation quality is not ideal, but it's readable. Hopefully this will get picked up by an English language publisher eventually so I can pick up a physical copy.

It's a well executed novel combining two different over-done plot premises. The author is quite fluent with their writing, and the translator is also quite good, so overall it makes for a good story. However, the MC is your standard defensive loner who claims he's not lonely while really being lonely, while your female MC is your standard school idol who overly pampers the MC once she realizes how incapable he is about caring for himself. Kind of like a mishmash of Oregairu and The Angel Next Door, but without... more>> either of the charms that made either work truly special. It won't be a standout work in my catalogue, but it's definitely worth a read at some point. <<less

you know, it would've been nice if the description didn't spoil the whole plot lmao.

Anyway, it's exactly what it promises. Straight-forward development of the plot and its characters. There's (probably) no tragic backstories to justify having edgy characters and shallow drama.

The two main characters, and even the rest, don't feel like dumbed-down tropes, but they don't have much uniqueness to their personalities and stories; they still fit tightly into the "Japanese rom-com formula, " so, what I mean to say, is that they aren't frustratingly bad, but the author doesn't... more>> dare to experiment a lot outside the usual plot elements for this type of WN.

Despite that, the relationship between the two is oddly charming; yes, it's still a bit sappy but I keep coming back for it.

In short, it's fine; it's entertaining for what it is. A cute story that isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. <<less

This is my first time rating a WN and reading this WN that doesn't even a comments or rating, it came to me that I should promote this hidden gem. The story so far is good, the MC is average but I think that something happened in past as to why the MC wants to be alone. In a way this WN reminds me of Oregairu but not that same deep the same as the anime/LN. All-in-all you should give it a try
