Wasn't really interested and started reading to kill time. I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. There was a lot of realistic angst about the ML's living situation, and MC's past was also filled with a lot of drama. MC and ML grew quite a bit during the story, it was a fun read. Might read again in the future. I liked the extras as well, expanded on their adult lives which was a nice addition.

I read this out of curiosity. I normally do no read anything until it reaches 20-30 translated chapters, but I just wanted to have a peek at what I might expect. I wasn't let down, not at all.

I'm a sucker for school life/campus stories, shounen ais too, and this really warmed my heart with a bright flame of comfort.

I will not say that this is pure fluff, there is angst, there is sadness, there are complicated feelings, as well as forbidden thoughts.

Each character is important in this book, and our... more>> protagonist, the little school master is slowly growing up to understand the world, but still retains he naivety he had. He is a flower wanting to bloom, and he eagerly wants to live a good life, but he didn't expect that people could be malicious enough to make him transfer schools just to get away from them.

But all changes when he comes to the new school and soon meets people who are willing to accept him, and play with him. And he finds his seatmate particularly cool.

Our male lead, the school bully, has a lot of weight in his heart that he can't unload. But during the time he comes to know his new seatmate, he slowly starts letting him in, falling harder and harder, even going to the point of being desperate to be next to his loved. But he doesn't take any drastic actions toward the MC, he just quietly watches and protects.

I think that this story is a nice portrayal of 'Lady and the Tramp' kind of story.

The pace of the story is not too fast, nor too slow, just enough to make you settle down and read it eagerly, waiting for it to happen. If you are older, you might find it naïve, but I think that exactly that is the charm of this novel. It succeeds in showing how people at such a vulnerable age can influence each other and grow together. But it also shows that even the little ones are not without troubles, and that you have options, but it doesn't always work out unless you really try.

I'm an oldie, 23yo, and tbh, I never had a crush on anyone, so seeing such gentle writing like this makes me smile, because maybe one day, someone will read this and think that maybe they will find such a thing too, or be comforted by it.

To the translator:

I hope that you continue persevering, and do your best in these troubled times. Share your thoughts and communicate with us a lot! I'll be waiting for your releases so I don't have to be confused by MTL again, haha <3 <<less

A very simple yet healing novel. The MC & ML relationship is extremely cute, like u can feel warm fuzzy feelings from reading their interactions, even BEFORE they got together. The relationship between MC & ML is one of the most heartwarming relationships i've seen in danmei novels.

MC is a pure & realistically naive boy, who is also a book smart & hardworking model student. ML is a cool school "gangster" who is really bad at studies. Characters seem to be stereotypical at first, but start to show many different... more>> layers as the plot thickens & develop. Unlike typical danmei love interests, ML is financially poor, in a dreadful but realistic situation of having to live with relatives who didn't care abt him very much, & became a bad student bcuz of all those conditions. He's also NOT portrayed as an idol level handsome guy chased by every girl in school (except in the eyes of our MC, who think of his zhan ge as the coolest guy in the entire school lol

Spoiler

How MC & ML changed each other's life for the better was written in such a touching way that u will cry tears of joy & be grateful towards the fate that brought them together haha. Maybe bcuz I was in a low point in my life when I read it, but the healing effect & positive energy was really strong on me. It's to the point that i'd have probably read it to the end even if their relationship was just a platonic brotherhood rather than romantic love. It was THAT wholesome.

[collapse]

Even the side characters have fully flashed out three dimensional personalities. I especially enjoyed the side romance as well, which is rare for me. The second couple is a "straight out of a highschool cdrama relationship" lol <<less

The story is so good!

It’s simple, sweet, yet touching.

There is no unnecessary drama. Both the ML and the MC are very honest to their feelings. They did not try to deny their sexuality or anything. The main struggles are from external things, not internal conflict. You can definitely see how their characters progressed throughout the story. I love how healthy their relationship is. If those appeal to you, then go ahead and give it a read.

Dropped at chapter 30. MC's personality was annoyed me very much, his EQ is quite low, on top of that he was being childish. Not even cute childish, it's the pushy-annoying-blockhead version. I waited for him to grow up a little but the story is going nowhere near that. Other ML was mostly talking to a wall, their problems are way different, well that's okay but when the communication isn't there, there can't be any chemistry between them.

MC's parents... UGH! Maybe the MOST ANNOYING part and they are the reason... more>> of all his problems: They are too protecting of him, acting like he's still a baby, asking too many questions, controlling what he eats way more than necessary, they suspect their own son for the reason of getting bullied... I absolutely hate parents like this.

The story had nothing to offer, not much different was happening, MC acts childish, gets good grades, simps for ML, then 4 friends eat together, occasionally past-bullying topic is brought up. That was it. Quite boring. Very repeating and you can tell what's gonna happen in the end.

The 3-star category of mine is too good for this story. 2-star it is. <<less

Hmmm... So it wasn’t bad, it was pretty cute and I enjoyed the naivety from the MC. Even though I enjoyed his was low EQ at some points, it did still bother me how insensitive and inconsiderate he was. I felt like no matter how often the ML stated he was fine or dropped hints of not wanting him to give him money, the MC ignored it and did so anyway because he wanted to.

Similarly, I actually hated how quick to give in the ML was. I just kinda felt... more>> like with his personality outline, he should have been more firm with saying no to the MC even if he liked him it doesn’t mean he had to give into his whims. not to mention the MC constantly burdening the ML to go to college and stop working also bothered me, but I won’t really continue on it because I don’t really care.

At the end of the day, the story was just something I read to pass the time so I’m not really gonna go through all my opinions on it because I didn’t really read it with hopes of enjoyment.

That being said, the translation was... well it could have been better. Right from the first chapter it felt more like an outline of the chapter. each paragraph was written more as bullet points that state what was happening rather than actually proper story format. Because of that my interest in it was severely lacking.

I ended up dropping it at 63 because a) I got bored with the MC and his lack of character growth — as in his maturity level. he’s still pushy and he’s still insistent on things that he should be more supportive over as a boyfriend. b) I got tired of the ML and his lack of communication — as in properly explaining to the MC how he feels when the MC tries to pay for everything or buy him things. c) the translation just became annoying, idk I don’t really care about there being 5 chapter left I got tired of it. and lastly, I was just bored. like from what I can tell nothing is gonna happen. at most they’ll be accepted into their colleges and it’ll end.

anyway. sorry to anyone who read this long as review. it’s really just me rambling over my boredom. the novel is fine if you’re also bored and waiting, but maybe not for a serious read.

First time I finished a novel via mtl, usually I end up stopping, I just couldn't put this novel down. I absolutely loved it.

It has one of my favorite scenarios:

Spoiler

They both like each other but ZM is worried that GQ Isn't actually gay (Hes worried he'll regret it and realise he's not actually gay and was just confused, at least this is what I collected from the mtl). He's also worried about GQ's grades being affected. (Also I cried a little during the chapters where this is going down, I love when the get together process isnt cupcakes and rainbows.)

[collapse]

GQ is so cute. I find ZM fricken adorable to lol.

I did cry a few time while reading, so beware. I'll make sure to follow along with the translations to read it with better quality. :D <<less

This is not a tropey novel with some overbearing CEO, ridiculous misunderstandings, etc. It feels extremely realistic and true to life, a novel full of small, detailed moments and a relationship between two real, three dimensional people.

Although there are some villains, there isn't much face slapping. Instead, more like real life, the best revenge is living well and moving on. So there isn't some thrilling schadenfreude like in more tropey novels, but there is a sort of calm satisfaction watching the characters grow and become stronger than the obstacles they... more>> faced.

The relationship between the leads is so good it was easy for me to imagine them still deeply in love decades later. They don't have unrealistically perfect communication but they both respect each other so much. The relationship development is done extremely naturally and realistically, never too rushed or forced.

The other friends are also lovely characters.

In short this novel is a very satisfying and heart warming read. <<less

I'm contemplating whether to rate this 3 or 4 stars.

The story is alright, and the writing is decent—with good character development and positive trajectory.

However, I am skeptical about the MC.

Spoiler

The fact that the MC keep telling ML how wonderful his mother doing did and that for him, despite knowing about the ML's challenging living situation, has always made me feel uncomfortable. Although he's set up to be someone with low EQ, shouldn't he be a bit more considerate to his friend? if it were me, I wouldn't want my poor friend, who even went so far as moving bricks to earn his own living expenses, to treat me to food or anything. The more I read, the more my discomfort grows. I just hope this aspect will get better in the second half of the story.

[collapse]

The MC is the type of person that I don't like. He is clingy, inconsiderate, and annoying. In short, he has no concept of personal space, often leaving me feeling uncomfortable, whether it's through his actions or his words. There are times that I think okay, he's cute. But most of the time, I don't really like him. Especially, when he started pursuing the ML. The way he goes about things is so awkward and frustrating.

The ML, on the other hand, is the real nice one.

Despite his own struggles, he knows how to give, care, and make sacrifices for others. His character is mature (not in an adult-like way but certainly more mature than his peers) and... well, pitiable. It's clear that he has an inferiority complex, but he doesn't act pitiful or self-pitying. Such a good child; I truly wish for his well-being.

Honestly, the reason I decided to rate this novel on the higher side (4 stars) is mainly due to the ML and the friendship among the little brothers group, which reminds me of my high school days and I find it quite cute. Additionally, the author wrapped up the story very well, and the ending is really beautiful. <<less

mc: gu qinan

ml: zhan ming

summary: ... more>>
Spoiler

MC transfers from a top tier school to a bottom tier school due to a bullying scandal. Hes depressed and withdrawn at first but comes out of his shell after becoming seatmates with ml. ML is the protective type, he stands up for MC (with his fists) which makes MC constantly stick around him. MC develops feelings for ML and unabashedly pursues him, tho ML is hesitant due to their different social statuses. MC comes from a well-to-do family whereas ML is raised by his uncle and aunt who are struggling to finance three children at once. ML has to work side jobs so his grades take a dip, whereas MC is an academically gifted student. However MC is adamant in his pursuit and they get together despite ml's reluctance. The extras show their journey in university and postgrad and working days, through long distance and cohabilitation.

[collapse]

thoughts:

gu qinan is my favourite brand of xiao nai gou I just wanna pinch his cheeks <3 their cp dynamic is basically grumpy face x sunshine boy hehe

gu qinan is the sheltered type, and hes got that mannerism to match. He doesnt overthink things and hes straightforward, and sometimes it comes off as naive and a bit s*upid, but its okay at least hes cute <3 really though, hes very strong and proactive, despite being bullied hes still able to see the good in people and open up to new friends fairly quickly. Its a rare kind of innocence that makes me wanna protect at all cost, and im sure zhan ming felt the same way haha

surprisingly enjoyed zhan ming's side of the story. His family situation is unfortunate but realistic - and possibly the most painfully down to earth part of the novel. His uncle and aunt are not 'bad people' persay, even though zhan ming suffered under their care. Their financial situation just doesnt leave them a lot of wiggle room to raise three children at once. Its only natural for them to prioritize their children, and its also natural for good feelings to turn sour when they just cannot afford to feed an extra mouth. The disheartening thing is how his uncle and aunt used to treat him warmly, giving him clothes and toys, but that was all before being saddled with an extra child they didnt ask for. I dont doubt that they couldve be good people, but hardships makes people bitter, and zhan ming knows that as well.

theres a clear class difference between zhan ming's family and gu qinan's family so comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges. Its not really fair? Regardless, zhan ming wouldve probably had a hard childhood whether he was raised by his ext. Family or living by himself.

Spoiler

THAT SAID, I think it was despicable for the aunt to outright steal zhan ming's inheritance and clamouring him to hand over more money. His cousin is also a piece of shit.

[collapse]

and you can tell that growing up in this type of environment shaped zhan ming's mannerisms. Completely unlike gu qinan, he overthinks things, beats himself down, and has this penchant for taking on more responsibility than he can chew - to his detriment sometimes. Hes insecure about himself, bottles up his emotions, and refuses to date gu qinan despite reciprocal feelings - all because he thinks he needs to be the bigger person. And even years after getting together, its almost as if hes still trying to overcompensate (?) by taking on all the household chores, buying a wholeass house on his own, dropping his job and everything to be with gu qinan whos halfway across the world. Its all very grandiose and sweet but I cant help but feel that hes still trying to prove (to himself) that hes worthy of gu qinan : (I just wanna pat his head a little : ( <<less

I love love love this story, I've reread a couple of times just because of how good it is. Pls read this story it's soooo good. (*≧▽≦) The MC (GQN) is a good, low eq, and studious kid which matches our ML (ZM) a cool, stoic, "delinquent/gangster". It's like good boy x bad boy school sweetheart pairing.

Spoiler

ML literally had a whole counterattack since he became aware of his feelings for the MC, he went from the bottom of the ranking to close to the top just to have a chance to be in the same city as our cute MC

Wish it had been a tiny bit longer, showing some extra scenes that weren't expanded on.

Overall a great read! Sweet and fluffy but with some angst mixed in too. I liked the relationship between the main leads a lot, and the side characters were good too. The cast wasn't too big to keep track of which I appreciated.

Likey! It's sweet and fluffy. It's simple story and mild. No big conflict, but realistic problem and bullying issue. The MC look so soft to pinch and a bit autistic at first, but you'll find it that He actually just a simple straight boy with good home plus too smart. He is honest with his feeling but immature, so he is sticky and act like a baby when he is with ML. The ML isn't overbearing, he has realistic mind, Fierce but to the people who annnoy him. Actually he... more>> is gentle, but his life make him become a cold and indiferent person. So when he meet the soft MC, he become a big brother who always protect his Lil bro.

Their relationship development looks realistic enough, there's a bit conflict before together. But it's not big fight. Just a conflict to brew and ensure their relationship to the next step. Shortly after the event, ML try to catch up with MC. He is very hard working person and mature. Really suitable for MC. <<less

Lightweight and fairly standard school delinquent boss x naive studious MC but for me an easy and enjoyable read. The characters were nice, the story managed to avoid being really annoying or boring. ML's standard sidekick friends managed to be characters in their own right and a little more than just background and I enjoyed the friendship the four had. The MC could have been s*upidly annoying and unrealistically childish but instead he had a very clear character and where he was childish or ignorant it was shaped by a... more>> mixture of his upringing and his somewhat single-focused personality so he was kept in the likeable side to me (though be warned if you just have a default low tolerance for naive MCs).

It's a reasonably simple story and not high literature or anything, but I found it a pleasant and often lively story for whiling away the time without getting bored or irritated. <<less

This was such a sweet little story. I really enjoyed the gentle relationship that developed between the two. It was so sweet to read. I appreciated how caring both of them were towards each other. I also really liked that although the shou was sweet and innocent, he didn’t act like a baby and wasn’t treated like one. I guess I’ve read a lot of stories where the cute and innocent shou is cared for like a little princess by their invincible gong. It was refreshing to see how both... more>> of them worked hard on their relationship.

I think the only trigger warning I would give would be for the bullying the shou went through at his previous school. It was handled pretty well though he wasn’t as explicit as some bullying in stories can be.

All I’m all, it was a very sweet story and worth the read. <<less

Such a cute novel! I love how ML made love the reason to pursue studying in a good university instead of using love as an excuse to drag his grades down despite being known as a delinquent.

Also love the way MC pursued ML, he realized his mistakes and fixed it to make everything right, it’s very healthy for young audiences to consume as it teaches the importance of consent and the struggles of being a student that is being pressured.

No. 1 school only cares about their image and not the... more>> mental health of their students, it’s saddening how there are actually such tr*shy schools like this in real life.

Spoiler

But the fact that MC and ML became the legend of No.7 high is so wholesome and hilarious, their past advisers are surely proud of them.

[collapse]

It was a very heart touching, realistic story, recommended if you’re bored and looking for a fluffy novel to read— although warning you that it’s not a pure fluff novel, there were times I teared up a bit and got frustrated but in the end, it’s all worth it. <<less

It's not exactly like the summary try to explain. The story is so much more. This Novel is Absolutely Wonderful Beyond Expectations!!!

This is not a story of Faceslapping, Revenge, or Counterattack. Nor story of Forgiveness. There is a 'Kind' of Revenge and Counterattack scene, it was Necessary scene! To shows the Importance of Someone... to show oneself is not a Pushover.

The Relaxing moments where the boys hanging out together. And all the Emotional moments that Hits you in the Heart!!!

It's a Beautiful Novel. I won't say it was Absolutely Perfect,... more>> but it has its own Perfection. Sastisfying... And I'm Loving it Truly Dearly. For the Eternity and Beyond. <<less
