I say I read until c1400 and that's what I did before getting fed up of the "main enemies" and the incredibly slow pace after the initial good pace the first 600 or so chapters. While I dropped it at this point, it wasn't before I skimmed through the chapter list and skimmed through various chapters with interesting names and realized that yeah, this is not worth more of my time, I'd rather re-read another novel than continue this.

Well, let's get started with the actual review. First off, the translation... more>> is very good, at least for a web novel translation. Good grammar, good flow, no real issues, 5/5. That is the sole thing that made this fun enough to read as a "time waster popcorn novel", scratching that xianxia itch while not being particularly offensive.

I mean, while the score is horrendous (and in many ways deserved, although a lot of 4/5 rated novels are way worse), I didn't actually feel bored reading this. It had my attention, I didn't get sleepy while reading it, it was pretty enjoyable until a certain point when the bad things just start to stack up, which, no surprise, happens around the mid point or mid-late point, as it usually does in these novels since most authors just can't seem to write consistent quality throughout, instead you really feel when they start getting tired of writing or getting to a point where it gets more difficult to write something new or interesting, this often happens when the MC starts getting stronger, strong enough to deal with real issues.

The translation plays a big role in this, if it had a worse translation I would've likely dropped it far, far earlier. There are a lot of much better novels out there that sucks and that I drop early because of how bad they become after being butchered in translation.

There's not much comedy but some light humor here and there. This novel is all about fighting - doing dangerous cultivation - fighting - attracting girls and taking new harem members randomly for no apparent reason - fighting some more.

Well, on to the more important stuff. Things that ended up rubbing me the wrong way, since this is the stuff that helps people truly decide if they can endure reading the novel.

Maybe the most glaring thing is the typical setting where the protagonist will get one almost impossible encounter after another. It's like he's winning the million dollar price every time he decides to buy a lottery ticket. I'd say the author is REALLY overdoing this. It's decently satisfying to self-insert and imagine getting one thing after another but it ends up feeling far too forced and improbable. He gets god grade items in various auctions cheap for no real reason. He ends up getting one thing after another from just walking around. He gets one crazy item after another.

But related to this, perhaps even worse, is how his timing is always s*upidly good. It's very predictable. EVERY TIME he returns from somewhere after spending a little bit of time away, he comes back EXACTLY at the last second to stop someone from assaulting is friends or women or sect or whatever. EVERY TIME. I'm not kidding. It never fails that he's away, sometimes for days, sometimes for months, sometimes for years, and only exactly when he gets back will the stuff happens so he can block a fatal move exactly in time, one second later and they'd be dead or defiled. Every damn time. Same when he's out and about. He'll always run into someone he knows in a precarious situation and somehow be there at the last second when they're about to die, even in a world far, far, far bigger than earth, when they move around randomly, he somehow runs into them at the critical moment. It gets tiring after a while with how blatant it is, not even slightly clever or though through.

Every single character in this novel pretty much acts the same. Enemies say and do the same things every time, usually mindless enemies being arrogant and attacking. No one has any brains, the MC included. The author tries to pretend they matter but they don't. Even supposed main characters like his white tiger brother/pet ends up almost never mentioned again, ever, after a little while because somehow the author felt like they didn't like him anymore. There are incredible swathes of people in this novel, but they're pretty much all side-lined, only to show up here and there for a brief moment before being side-lined again.

Everyone adores the MC, except for his enemies of course. Every girl loves him so much and wants to get into his pants after seeing him acting so awesome and cool. It never fails, because he's the most handsome and attractive man in the universe. Love has never been so cheap. Of course, every dude except enemies also loves him. Every powerhouse looks down on him until he reaches their levels, because he needs to be the underdog in some way. There are no neutral parties in this novel. Either they're love or hate him.

The author appears very indecisive. Not only are characters introduced only to be side-lined to focus on other things, it's the same for everything else. The revenge was supposedly of utmost importance but he never truly achieves real revenge, just partial revenge. The main villains are c*ckroaches but have no interesting traits or reason to be, so after failing to kill them for a few times, readers get increasingly fed up with the same person being a nuisance. Abilities are introduced only to not really matter later, There are so many different abilities, skills, bloodlines, races and whatever that he can't decide what to focus on. Pet beasts were supposed to be a pretty big deal but ultimately play an incredibly minor role. His entire cultivation journey feels shallow and s*upid.

For some reason, we can't have more than 2-3 chapters max before we need to have some sort of conflict again, as if that's the only way the author knows to pad out the story and write something. Well, of course it's easy to write the same thing over and over again with slightly different words. Truly lazy writing. The fights can all be skipped, they're badly written, over in a short chapter or two max and their abilities don't matter either. Later on, a major part of the story becomes people heckling him about his girls, trying to steal them from him and the girls saying how much he loves him while he says how much he loves them. Cheap at best.

What makes it even more amusing is how the author can't stop pretending things are more intense, complex and awesome than they are. They write almost every single chapter when there's a conflict, assassination attempt or whatever, that "it was so damn close, if he had not just cultivated this, he would've died for sure", as if that doesn't just make things feel forced. Yeah, no matter how strong he becomes, the author forces in unnecessary fake drama that we know shouldn't happen. Pretending that so many strikes from enemies or stuff while cultivating would've been fatal if not for the thing he learned a short while ago. Sure mate, sure. It's pretty tiring when the author pretends he can't deal with something. Despite all the opportunities he has received and the insane talent he's got, he acts like an idiot and gets nerfed randomly only to be buffed randomly.

Oh, and the end of the story. Heh. Let's put it this way, it's abrupt and incredibly s*upid even for an axed ending. It's so clear that the author just woke up one day, said to himself "You know what, f*ck this, I'm done", proceeded to write a page or two and just ended it without tying up anything. That truly sucks when you've spent probably 2-3 weeks reading this crap, perhaps even more.
Spoiler

The ending is simply a mess of incredibly forced drama, pretending we care about some characters, then suddenly getting a huge power boost, instant killing enemies, instantly doing whatever else and then just saying, he's the strongest and made a new planet. The author literally wrote "the end" which, with how shitty and abrupt the ending was, feels like nothing but a slap in the face to the readers

[collapse]

As a time waster novel, this honestly isn't too bad for the first 1000 or so chapters. Not worth it to read more though. I think I've never rolled my eyes at a novel before because of how s*upid some parts are, but I can't deny I at least had some fun reading it, so let's go for 3/5 thanks to the translation. Killed some time, good enough for me. Just wish it would've been good enough to read completely. <<less

Definitely worth a read if you're a fan of "mainstream" xuanhuan!

The story is well-paced, the characters the MC meets are interesting and there's a healthy dose of lucky encounters and enemy slaughtering.

As for whether the MC is too OP or not, that's a matter of opinion. I like OP and lucky MCs and so if you do too then I'd give this story a go.

I personally don't read this stuff to see the MC struggling endlessly for pitiful gains. I read this stuff to watch the MC slapping faces, snatching... more>> treasures before anyone else can and sending a**holes of every size and shape to Granny Meng for their hot bowl of soup. <<less

Start was somewhat funny, but the story quickly deteriorated:

MC has far too many cheats and talents - it's just not interesting to read how MC is training some skill when you know he is going to use it for 1 or 2 chapters at most and quickly replaceit; and neither is it interesting to read how much weaker opponents rush to their deaths by attacking him.

if you dont mind the same old stuff, its pretty good. the author has good enough writing skill to keep it interesting. I like it but its nothing new. if you like MC that attracts most women to him, is extremely talented, has extreme luck, loyal subordinate relationships, a harem, non blood related sister with a brother complex, a revenge plot, lil white, lil silver, demonic beast bros [silver might be a sis though... ]. sworn brothers and sisters, missing father and supposed dead mother but possibly not dead just... more>> with an extremely strong clan and was enemies with MC fathers like wise extremely strong clan. MC dad left the clan for her and started his own sect [pretty powerful as well] and its the thing MC trying to retake and get revenge on the usurpers after father goes missing.

Around the current chapter in at its hard to say that it hasn't gotten at least a tad bit worse.

I suck at explaining so I'll just say 2 things main things that happened recently.
Spoiler

1st thing is just annoying as an enemy who's been mentioned lots of times, building suspense over the hundreds of chapters. He, out of absolutely nowhere, gets challenged by the MC only to quickly die and then comeback to life immediately after.

2nd is the MC, over time, is "supposedly" getting more mature and smarter. Heck he's even titled as the "Child of Wisdom" yet the decisions he makes over time get worse and worse, to the point where he's acting on all of his desires without a single thought, and when it goes wrong he admits he was being too arrogant and underestimating the situation only to do the same thing again.

Honestly I'd say that I enjoyed this novel but it's not particularly outstanding. I don't have anything super great to say about it. I'd give it like a generous 6/10. I say generous because I do have a particular few issues that I'm about to elaborate on.

Cons:
- Without a doubt literally the most underwhelming ending I've ever read in my entire life. If you want a novel with a satisfying ending DO NOT read this novel. You will be violently disappointed.
Spoiler

The whole ending wraps up in like a couple paragraphs. After the already incredibly underwhelming final battle (they did a bunch of build up and tragedy and then MC just breaks through and destroys the main enemies in like 3 sentences), the author literally just skips any post-plot development and just goes "He went out into the universe and created a new planet that's the most powerful planet and now he rules the universe. The end. (HE LITERALLY SAYS 'The end.') ". I feel like I got no payoff after sitting through those 1833 chapters and I can't even rage-quit because the novel is over anyways.

[collapse]
- In a similar vein to the underwhelming ending, there's some unresolved sh*t throughout the novel that is also super disappointing and irritating.
Spoiler

Mostly the central betrayal (the one that literally kickstarted MC's entire motivation) is completely forgotten about. The main guy and girl that betrayed him are sidelined and never mentioned after a certain point (even though MC constantly reiterates that he'll never forgive them and will 100% kill them for revenge).

[collapse]
- There are a few instances early on where enemies escape MC for literally NO REASON. Like the MC literally says "Oh I could stop them using this OP ability I have. But ya know I don't wanna reveal any of my power so I'll just let them get away for now" like bro wtf. This is a common trope but at least other novels try to justify it w/ some divine intervention or secret trump card but the author here doesn't even try.
- Get ready for a mega rant. The harem consistency. Now I actually do enjoy most of the harem for this novel. The girls are all pretty decent and their interactions w/ MC are nice. But the consistency is abominable. Who the MC chooses to accept and repay love debts to has no real consistency and seems completely arbitrary. The author does something that really pisses me off in harem novels: he adds entire romantic subplots for women that aren't going to join the harem. It's super annoying. If you aren't putting them in the harem, don't give them romantic subplots.
Spoiler

This happens w/ a few girls in particular, but one is much worse than the other so let's focus on that. This girl (call her "H") goes on adventures w/ MC and says several times that she's NEVER gonna give up on him and that she'll win his heart (despite the fact that "H" already knows and acknowledges the fact that he has multiple other women). She goes so far as to kiss him several times, and MC even elaborates that he really enjoys it. Yet later on MC adds another girl to his harem (keep in mind he already has like 4-5 at this point that "H" is already okay with), and suddenly "H", Miss "I'll-never-give-up-and-totally-win-your-heart", just goes "Ok I give up", cries, and walks away. AND THEN she just gets w/ another side character during a time skip AND THEN LATER THEY BOTH GET KILLED OFFSCREEN. Pissed me tf off I would've dropped the novel at that point if I wasn't already so far in. It also never made sense in the first place that MC didn't accept her despite accepting girls who he's gone through much less with and is much less close to. 2 harem girls in particular both had way less in-depth and interesting starter romances and yet they still got accepted almost instantly after reuniting w/ MC. Made absolutely no sense that "H" was never accepted after all that build-up.

I'm not a picky reader and the start up till 600 was fine for me, I actually enjoyed what I was reading until now. , The thing that turns me off immensely is when s*upid sh*t like that happens, It's just bad writing, nothing else to critique about it. I've dropped numerous stories because of insanely bad writing cliches from the author because if that's what I'm getting at the half way point, the ending won't be any better.

2 Stars, nearing 1 fits right because it starts out fine and dandy, but slowly progresses into this obsolete bullsh*t where the writing makes less and less sense, and the actions of the main character conflict with his own portrayal. The harem part is fine but the hypocrisy with the Han sisters is not fine, you clearly are ok with more than 1 woman but after all the effort and things you did for them you refuse to give them the time of day. This isn't about a background thing, it's hypocrisy and arrogance. This may change by the end of the story, but why would it matter? Even their strengths and abilities are no weaker than his current woman at this point, so on that note I'd have to digress that I'm dropping it because of the drastically decreased quality in writing. If you create a main character, keep him consistent and honest, don't make him do s*upid things, put s*upid plot cliches that make no sense and then act like this is what makes a good main character. Another story with Nine stars as a focus has a character that I LOVE and they did it RIGHT, LEARN FROM THEM, ALL HAIL LONG CHEN <<less

True rating 3.5/5. Barely.

First, a short general opinion: it's a good webnovel compared to other Chinese webnovels. It's average at best if we're talking real novels.

The good thing about this novel is that it's just above average as far as Chinese webnovels are concerned, and this quality is fairly consistent, and even 1100 chapters in it's still just as good. The sad part is that this consistence is possible precisely because the novel isn't outstanding.

So like I said, the novel is more or less average. There are the same tropes... more>> and all that, but they're not as numerous and not as serious. Some are slightly subverted iirc. The general plot is generic, but it's decent. Plot progression is okay, pace is okay, and various subplots and arcs are nothing special, but still passable. There are still things to find out, things to guess at, and there are no glaring plot holes. Some of the first 300 chapters are meh, but it gets better later.

Characters are pretty normal for xianxia. A bit better, perhaps, but nothing special. However, the protagonist, while generic, was pretty likable, which is not that common for xianxia. He's the usual type that returns both favors and grudges appropriately. There are other prominent male characters, which is nice, and they don't all serve as a foil for MC, which is even nicer.

It's a harem, but nothing really happens for

Spoiler

Over 1000 chapters lol. I think it was somewhere around 1050 (very roughly) that MC goes to bed with someone

[collapse]

and the romance is nothing special, but it isn't cringe, either.

Enemies aren't particularly dumb, and they can give MC some trouble, which is also nice.

Cultivation setting is nothing special, but it's okay. MC fights above levels as usual, but he's not the only one.

Honestly, I forgot a lot of what I should write (as can be seen from the last paragraphs) as I read it a while ago. But generally I recommend it. It's good to kill time, and I read it with only one break (after around 100-200 chapters, the most boring part) until catching up with the translation. It's much better than most xianxias, but again, nothing special. <<less

I actually really enjoy this from the aspects of it being a fun popcorn overpowered cultivation novel. As a harem enjoyer I give this 2 stars though. I put up with it until the ice girl who was infatuated with him kept getting ignored then randomly shows up going "oh yeah hey im with your good friend now" im mad at the author for not only making the MC a dickhead to her but also for him making her seem so fickle in love after all the build up from previous chapters. Meanwhile MC DOES accept some random fox girl he met once...

Decent novel but should be renamed "The One that Got Away".

Basically every main enemy is a c*ckroach character that escapes despite the MC usually having the ability to kill them.

Other than that, MC has a good range of abilities and the translation is decent. It's your standard shounen xuanhuan novel with a large simp harem and fatty friend.

If you can get over the plot holes, it's not a bad read and is a similar ilk to Martial God Asura (MGA). If you hate MGA or guilty pleasure shounen powerful MC... more>> novels, stay away!

3/5 for me. <<less
