This is the sequel of "The Day I Disappeared" which is written from Gilbert's POV. Gilbert is Anne Marie's scumbag husband and it was shown here how much of a narcissist he is. After what happened to Anne Marie, he started to drown himself with guilt wanting to ask for her forgiveness. Truly repugnant, I must say. I'm also glad that Maria knocks the sense out of him and made him realize the reality he always failed to perceive. Maria is really the best character in this series because of... more>> this, IMO. Anyway, despite me wanting Gilbert to suffer more because of what he did to Anne Marie, the way the writer wrote his character development as the story progressed was good so there's no need for that, I guess. The ending was truly beautiful and ended with a very satisfying conclusion that made me tear up. This didn't make me feel depressed as much as the prequel did however it was a good read so I truly recommend this once you finished reading the prequel. <<less

Prequel and sequel should have been attached into one. The story has a great strong start and I really wanna know more but I quickly lost interest as it moves onto other people outside, random useless info and repetition feel like I'm been reading all day.

At the end it got good again.

a beautiful story indeed. Even having a glimpse on many other perspectives to how they see this situation. A very different genre that I would have normally read, but I am quite satisfied with the process towards the ending.

i quite like the Queen, she really knows how to handle the situation at hand.

it's not as tragic as it is for me since ... more>>
Spoiler

anne marie was able to find herself at the end.

as to the ending, I don't think she'll get back with Gilbert since her status is no longer as noble as before and she is also scarred. I think with the time she travelled with Luke, they might have gotten married.

[collapse]

what I like about the story is how the characters' inner problems were sorted out. Queen Maria might have been the way for all of this because somehow, she's indirectly related with what happened to Anne Marie.

Gilbert realized how conceited he is. He only loves himself and thought that only the person with the same IQ as him (like Maria) is best suited for him. That's why he thought no one is on par with him anymore and choose a loveless married.

then he learned how big of a jerk he is after Queen Maria served him the same treatment he did with Anne Marie.

i think at the end, Gilbert will stay single until his death for we don't know how that travels changed Anne Marie alot. <<less

This story has burn my heart then kill it, now I don't know what did I feel for this novel.

I can only say, DON'T read this book if you want a sweet romance. Remember there is 'tragedy' tag...

But it is still nice story that can make you change your feeling from sad, angry, disgust, then... dunno :-P

The story is short and might be a tad open ended but the characterization was solid and my emotions were on a rollercoaster of disgust to pity to acceptance. There’s no true black or white in this story, it’s a bit grey. Gilbert is absolutely pitiful, his ignorance, pride and hyperfixation coupled with his social status (too high up to reprimand) resulted in a socially inept genius too hyperfixiated on the kingdom to realize how he was hurting Anne Marie. His actions are still hideously disgusting, but it is nice... more>> to see such a pitiful man show remorse and attempt to change.

it’s not so much a “grim” story as a realistic but uncomfortable one. Everyone’s in an awkward situation, from Anne Marie and Maria to Gilbert and his brother. It does a great job on both Gilbert and Anne Marie and their journey to change, from Anne Marie’s recovery and journey for self-love to Gilbert’s attempts at apology and self-awareness. <<less

In fact, it didn't leave the same kind of 'deep impression' that the prequel did. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a satisfactory read.

I liked how the story progressed and how everyone had to change a bit because of what happened.

The interactions between the characters, the feelings, the mistakes and the self-reflections were all well written, and made me see that the changes were really happening.

... more>> I particularly enjoyed the conversations through the letters. It made clear the paths our characters had chosen and how they were improving.

I wasn't as 'touched' as in the prequel. But it was a good read, without a doubt, and I don't feel regretful about reading it. <<less
