Hadius Meyer was the center of the world.

He was a beautiful person, who shined brightly among others.

But he didn’t brag or act arrogant.

He was fair to everyone.

Except for his fiancée, Emilia Bern.

“I really want to be free now. I really hate you. From the bottom of my heart.”

“How many times do I have to tell you so you understand? I don’t care about that.”

“What on earth do you want?”

“The Duchess of Meyer. My wife. As you know.”

An engagement only in name, he changed when she decided to end that weary relationship.

idk I just don't like how the female lead stayed like that for years without getting anything aside from pain and mockery PLUS not even the male lead is helpful. would a human really stay in something where they gain nothing from a certain situation or people? that will make Aristotle's causality theory a fallacy lmao. and also, what's the use of doing something now that the person wants to leave that hell when you could've done that earlier. putting my shoes in the fl... sorry but whatever the ML... more>> will do is UTTERLY INSULTING. anyways... not my cup of tea shitty characters and storyline. y'all could read better novels aside from this I swear to god. <<less

I see most of the reviews are from reading the first few chapters and I feel like a disclaimer should be said before anything else. There is lots of abuse and bullying in this novel, including s*xual assault that is being totally romanticized.

Personally, I had to drop this novel as it was getting too much for me. Emilia, the female lead, is forced to submit to the male lead Hadius (mentally and physically) and I just could not imagine a happy ending after all the abuse.
Spoiler

She was r*ped by him in chapter 66 and although I commend the translators for a job well done I must say, the r*pe is described in detail, step by agonizing step.

[collapse]

I just couldn’t get over this. I like dark romances and have seen/read many such scenes but I see no point in a romance between the protagonists after that moment. He broke her as a human being and there is no going back after that.

Review: Chapter 25
This series progresses beautifully, with sufficient levels of world-building and lore to create a great backdrop for the drama unfolding between Emilia and Hadius' peculiar circumstances. Emilia tries to be as realistic as possible in regards to how she deals with Hadius and his mother. Her reactions are perfectly reasonable given the troubled history and the potential danger that she is in.

Whilst some might take issue with Hadius 'staying mom' about what he plans to do, it makes perfect sense when you consider how any misstep can... more>> result in harm coming to Emilia and her family due to his mother and the family that she wishes to tie him to. I also like Emilia's pragmatism so far given the world around her and her relationship with Hadius up until the current events.

Translation? The quality is excellent and the narrative makes the story flow easily. I'd like to commend Miki at Mystical Merries for their efforts in providing such an enjoyable read thus far.

Updated Review: Chapter 69
After endruing the brooding aesthetic, the story becomes a tale of r*pe, back-stabbing and all-round sadness as Hadius shows just how little he cares about our poor MC. His treatment made sense up until the point where he actively forces himself upon her repeatedly because he cannot wrap his head around being honest and warm with the person that he supposedly is in love with. It became so infuriating and depressing that I have decided to discontionue reading this story. However, if BD*M is your fetish, feel free to go ahead and read this to see if it falls closer into the sort of material you enjoy. But alas, the hope that I had for this series have promptly left the building and headed to Bermuda. <<less

I don’t know why this has low reviews? It may be because of the ML but there’s only five chapters which means there’s plenty of time for his character to develop and grow.
Though I understand, the ML’s attitude is pretty frustrating.

anyways I’m enjoying it a lot right now, it reminds me of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” but gender swapped (not sure if this is the correct term to use) and also with the setting (nobility, social rules and all that jazz). You feel for the female lead as the author... more>> goes in depth (plus the translation is great too) and she goes through a lot. I like how her feelings are not without reason.

I encourage anyone who likes shoujo or Josei to give it a read! <<less

I'm a silent reader and never really do reviews. But this novel is the first exemption. I read spoilers and I can't stomach the characters and how s*upid they are. ML is a dog sh*t high level as*hole. I do hate him to the core. The MC, sigh... I'm all for understanding and supporting women but I really can't do this to her at all.

Spoiler

how can she still fall in love to someone who r*ped her several times??

[collapse]

No redemption arc for ML, MC forgive and accepted him with only a measly confession

I really wonder what's on the author's mind while writing this. I guess they're the type to fall in love to the one who r*pe them smh

It's one of the novels that I can say I wasted my time reading <<less

The story is perfect so far. I honestly like hoe the ML tries to break free from his mother (I hate mama boys) but I’m really disappointed when it comes to the way he treats the FL💔 dude you are like a ice berg towards her but you literally burning inside when she looks at you (you jerk🤬) excited to see how this progress. Well when talking about the writing style actually there’s nothing more to say, these are the novels which really deserve Josei tag🏷 well written well translated.... more>> Cannot wait till the part in the prologue comes 🥰 <<less

Love is a choice not a disease.

The ML gives the FL zero reasons for her to fall in love with him. I'd argue he knows more about her through observation (e.g. She likes music). Which leads me to conclude she is just infatuated with his face. Or deep down she is really attracted to the duchess position but is too proud to admit it.

I harbour such dislike for her because as others have said, there is no reason for her to tolerate the treatment she receives, and still fancy herself... more>> in love. It is just irritating to excuse everything with love.

I read the spoiler she gets r*ped. Anything after this is Stockholm syndrome not love. I skipped to ch 79 to see if anything changes. Seems she finally wises up to leave him. However, the author introduced one of the most toxic plot devices: friends or family that encourage you to stay with a toxic person, despite how unhappy they know it makes you.

Mitch is my favourite character. He might be an extremist, but he doesn't encourage his sister's infatuation.

I don't recommend this. ML feels no regret so this doesn't offer catharsis. <<less

I've never read such a disappointing and infuriating novel in all my life. It had such great potential and I was so invested in the story, but out of nowhere the ML freaking r*peS her!??? He literally turns MC into his personal prostitute by threatening to destroy her family. He's nothing more than a disgusting vile piece of garbage. For your own sanity, do not read this novel.

it's... not bad, but kind of lacking in the romance department. I'm at chapter 44 and the protagonists never even had a proper conversation yet.

this, for me, is a great example of a 'fatuous romance', where they 'love' each other so much they would move mountains but they are not even friends. they never really talk about their issues, tbey are not honest with each other, never reveal their intentions or clearly state suspicions, but they somehow love each other "because their eyes met five years ago".

also, a lot of... more>> politics and corporate/coglomerate backstabbing, descriptions of how their finances are managed and who is stealing power from whom, and the main characters meet like once every hundred chapters, only to argue and misunderstand each other because neither of them says what they really mean.

it's not completely bad, but... not much romance to be found here, mostly politics and obsession.

edit: dropped around ch50. the FL is an incompetent, emotionally constipated white lotus that always has to wait for her standoffish fiance to save her from every conflict and I'm too sick and tired of it to bother. <<less

Two stars for the excellent translation, and some interesting political sideplots - still reading to see the resolution of those plots. I enjoyed the FL's personality and strong devotion to her family. I'd rate it higher if this was portrayed as a tragedy or a psychological horror instead of a romance.

The story and relationship moves slowly. You keep thinking that maybe we'll get some defrosting of the ML or any sort of positive emotional movement, but the fleeting glimpses of something romantic blooming are quickly replaced by the ML's awful... more>> and continuous gaslighting. It goes rapidly downhill after around chapter 50.
Spoiler

I underestimated it. Like many others my tolerance for "grey area" or "dubious" consent is higher in fiction than IRL, but the SA in this isn't like in other stories where there's even the tiniest sliver of ambiguity. The FL is so traumatized by the ML's first SA in chapter 51 to the extent that it makes her physically ill for days and she flashes back to it. She's basically broken by the end of 66 after his mental manipulation and physical assault.

The story is pretty nice, it has a sense of reality between a noble and commander love or whatever it's. And that's a plus point from me. It's not like other childish story that doesn't grasp the struggles of life, can't wait for updates

P.S sorry of my lacking English. I'm a foreign English is not my first language

We have different taste, for me this is my cup of tea I dunno why I love red flags ML where nonchalant at first and then the second the FL tried to get away they became obssessed, okay okay before you throw punch at me just forgive me for liking this story. I just like it that's it.

It just became a habit that I tend to read where nonchalant red flags ML became obssessed.

It started off pretty good but the story made no sense sometimes. Dropped after Chapter 66. To me this is like a cheap version of „Cry, even better if you beg“. The first thing that was unnecessary was her sister’s lump, like why couldn’t she just be blind? I guess the author wanted to make smth different. Also her step-brother as a characters? Soo useless only brought her trouble. Im not a fan of her big family, the dynamics aren’t really working. They could have just made her live with... more>> her true mother and not bring all these characters. The writing was weird at times and im rly not a fan of when the

FL cuts her hair short. It should be used as a symbol of women empowerment but a few chapters later she was selling herself in exchange for her family’s safety?! Soo unnoying.

The buildup itself up to chapter 66 was too repetitive like I lost track of the timeline. When is the supposed big graduation party even happening? The ML is typical tr*sh nothing new his thoughts weren’t interesting either. Just dumb. <<less

I can't take it anymore

was persevering just so I could see the romance but the ML is so douchey for no reason? Whats with his guilty pleasure of watching the FL get uncomfortable when he makes sure he does exactly what she told him not to do? FL is quite immature too and can't mask or regulate her emotions, abit like a bratty little girl.

overall just doesn't hit the spot and unnecessarily angsty
