Started reading this novel yesterday, now at chapter 24. Story timeline is that MC came back from some mission in another place, met some friends in the inn, ate some food, slept, got new place to live and went to take some stuff from ex. F*cking 24 chapters for that and still not seem it will be back to real story. Most of the chapters is about history. I like to know some background about the MC and stuff, but why would you need to write half chapter about rats... more>> or 6 chapters about his ex. It's not like he will meet her much more. And even if he meets her, it is better to tell short stories, not dump all 6 chapter story in the start of the novel, when you need in get reader in this story to get intrigued. Don't know, don't know.... For now it looks pretty poorly written novel, but I will continue to read it, just because MC looks pretty intelligent and chill dude. 2/5

Okey, it started really really slow, but got it rolling and got better. Atm I am on chapter 293 and got some action, little romantic, much comedy. The kingdom building storyline is decent too, don't have too much of complains. Furthermore, how MC is not overpowered is commendable. I will rase to 3.5/5 If it won't get out of hand, it is good 4 for this novel. <<less

If you can tolerate the first 50 chapters the it's agood read. Those chapters can be considered a very lengthy prologue. The rest of the part is a decent territory management story. While most of the MCs innovations and plans go well there are times when has setbacks too. Overall godd reading material.

The first 50 or so chapters is essentially one massive prologue. Imagine, a lone person walking down a path, with multple standing on each side of the road. Each time he encounters one, it kicks off a multi chapter long nostalgia (from the MC's point of view) flash back.

That is the first 50 plus chapters and the plot barely inches on forward. While the story seems vibrant and fresh with each new encounter, all these flashbacks really start to rub you the wrong way especially since it never really stops... more>> even 100 chapters in. These chapters are LONG. And in-depth. And detailed. Which can be a bit tiring especially in the beginning (it was for me, anyway).

It becomes less frequent and the story moves faster when he reaches his dominion but they never really go away in order to maximize world building in as little number space as possible.

So far, romance is non-existent, his first 4 year long romance with a noble girl, which was explored indepth flashback style of course, in the first 30 or so chapters ended pretty badly with a classic netorare in which the dumb bit*h who was dissatisfied with MC's nominally low ranking despite being nearly god like in actual combat, left him due to "dignity" and "honour" so that she can be used by a higher ranking noble family as a breeding horse and the business the MC and the girl built up together is stolen by said noble.

I'm not sure if he gets some vengeance later on, if any, but given the MC's character, I highly doubt it. <<less

Average!

The world is vast and detailed. You can see it from the beggining that this author is not to be messed with. The only thing I found lacking is MC. It didnt leave me with any emotions whatsoever even tho it tries the main character here are side characters for me. The author wastes way too much time developing them only to abandon them and ocasionally glance towards their direction. Because they have made me tremble reading it. MC is just a husk that walks thru the story and... more>> acts acordingly.

I recomend to anyone that want some militarish novel with a reincarnation backstory. <<less

I thought and hoped that by Chapter 21 that the author would reach a key point in the plot such as Lorist becoming a lord. To my dismay, the chapters so far are only flash backs and info dumbs. However, sometimes the chapters are interesting but my patience is wearing thin from reading all these dumb summary flash back chapters.

I mean, aren't I reading this hoping to see how the main character Lorist manages being a lord? Or am I reading this light novel for the overall back story? And... more>> to clarify, the flash backs would have been more interesting if they are not just simple summaries of things happening. For instance, in some flash backs it talks about Lorist beating people or training people but not exactly telling us the whole story. Instead, we are left with he beat some up up and thats it, no action whatsoever talked about. And sure we are given details about how techniques works and Battle force works, just not how he uses them in battles or any action about how he defeated his enemies. To put it simply, all the chapters so far are merely Lorist having flash backs and interacting with people; one could even say that all the chapters so far is the equivalent of watching anime filler: it doesn't matter and probably has nothing to do with the plot. I'm just hoping at this point that the author is going to move past the flash backs and actually talk more about the present. And hopefully the pacing of the story will improve. <<less

Okay, there are some good things about this series, and there are some bad things. First the good things; the world is interesting, as is the character, the scenario and the translation is good.

Where the series falls down is the long, introspective tales into the pass that ruin the flow of the story; I feel that rather infodumping everything at the beginning, these things should slowly be drawn out in the story; the reader does not have to know the Lore of the world in the first twenty chapters, the... more>> same effect could be replicated by weaving the world's lore into the actual narrative. Same with the love story. I'll continue reading; but if the style doesn't change I think I'll have to drop it. Nyan reserves the right to change this ranking as the story advances <<less

Don't bother reading this novel. It was dropped.

While it is a very good novel with a kingdom building plot very well done, the author had to drop his novel for censorship issues.

The novel invests a lot into early world building which is completely abandoned later on, many of the nations and cities are skipped later on with the initial fantasy development also abandoned. Whilst I enjoyed the beginning of the novel, many of the later developments were rather disappointing and I'd rather warn new readers of investing time into reading the novel.

The realistic kingdom building at the beginning of the novel was quite satisfying but as it progressed, the author's lack of experience with economic policy and the plot of the... more>> MC being a reincarnated character is gradually abandoned until it's becomes another lackluster imitation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Whilst it portrays a somewhat realistic development of warfare, it abandons the initial plot and could've been balanced more successfully with the experiences of the MC from his previous life
Spoiler

It was shown in the beginning of the novel and later on that he has a talent for designing things. With his experiences in design and architecture this could've included a much more deeper delve into managing a business empire and exploring the war-torn countries for business opportunities where readers could experience more world building. Instead the author simply focuses on reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms and watching Nat-Geo.

.

My main gripe with the story is the focus on s*x, the misogynistic and unrealistic tendencies towards women which is 'justified' because of a medieval setting by the author. This can be understood from the context that this novel was written by a Chinese author for a Chinese audience in which the role of women are limited in modern society. The stronger women in this novel particularly those with battleforce are 'unreasonable' and only become somewhat 'reasonable' after settling down and having children. Women are displayed as 'good' only when they're obediently submissive and completely reliant on s*x despite 'battleforce' making strength differences between men and women almost non-existent. The 'Good' women in the later chapters of the novel completely devolve to becoming baby making machines (Quite literally).
Spoiler

Examples of women being 'bad' included first concubine Irina, who is good as a maid until she becomes fat and unreasonable. Telesi (at first), Pesha who was too shortsighted for her own good, Glacia who wanted to be with his second highness, and Blademaster Xanthi who was too 'blind' to see Lorist for what he was.

[collapse]

While the novel wasn't a completely disappointing read, I do not believe it is worth 4.0 stars for the average audience especially after it's dropped at a pretty bad point. <<less

Very frustrating it ended prematurely.. This was one of the first chinese novel that I read that hooked me into chinese novels.. There are lots of thing to be dissatisfied about but overall the plot is very interesting. As other novel MC is bit overpowered but he has his fair shares of struggle also.. I wish author would somehow make a second part with different name as I heard it was banned by government dont know why..

Ok, I have read many CN novels. You name it and I have read it, but CN novel have a lack of territorial development and they all have some sort of gang wars and some brutal forcing and stuff like that which really pisses me off. But this novel was different not only lorist was development oriented lord, he was also a military person. He has done his own mistakes but he has learned from all of his mistakes. I don't why CN government banned the novel but I loved... more>> the novel. It really competed head to head with jp novel in terms of territory development. Man they really have to stop the novel at such a crucial time. This was heartbreaking. We finally got a glimpse of empire quest but all for naught and the new novel started by the author is the same CN bullshit. I really beg author to resume this novel and continue this work cause this could become one of the masterpiece. Man, I dont why government banned this novel. Rumors say due to s*x scenes but there was not really like that. I want to end by review by saying that the whole point of reading novel was to see how lorist succeeds the throne and kill Augusolo and his bastard son and destroys trade union. <<less

Frankly, if I was comparing this to an English novel, I'd have rated it much lower. The writing is excellent, but the author bloated this novel with so much drivel that doesn't further the plot in any way, shape, or form. Most of the info-dumps could be summarized in a couple of sentences for a greater effect, rather than 8+ paragraphs of information that is absolutely irrelevant to the reader. The author is especially bad with this concerning logistics. The reader doesn't need to know every single last detail about... more>> army logistics. It's meaningless information, but the few times I actually wanted details, the author just does a time-skip. It's horribly frustrating.

Since there are two authors, I have to assume one of them only wrote the fight scenes because they are so laughably low quality compared to everything else. The evil smiles and devilish lip-smacking as the enemies imagine their victory just to promptly get killed instead? Yep, that kind of awful stuff. The way the MC just runs into a group of people and solos upwards of 40 people by himself really brought down the quality of the novel. Up till that point, the novel hadn't tread too far into unrealism and nothing prepares you for how s*upidly absurd the fights are. I don't understand why you make acquiring logistics and navigating politics so detailed, well-written, and realistic, just to throw it all away to make your MC capable of soloing armies with his Jedi powers (that he presumably learned from modern-day Earth?) while the enemies comically react like your typical Chinese villain. It gets worse as the novel goes on, with the MC's capabilities becoming far more absurd without explanation.

Also, was the scene where the baby gets thrown onto a spear really necessary? Like yeah, I get that you want the reader to empathize with the MC's anger and hatred of the enemy, but don't you think you can do that without graphically explaining exactly how they killed a baby and its mother? Anyone who doesn't almost immediately join the MC is portrayed as Mr. Evil McEvilson and they commit all kinds of nasty deeds with their IQ of a brick. Bandits join the MC immediately after he kills their leader and the MC acts as if they weren't just bandits, trusting them not to turn on him the moment he gives them an inch. I feel like I'm reading a shounen manga where everything is either white or black, there is no in-between, and the enemies are all inept. The narrative always pushes the MC into looking favorably, and unlike real leadership, he rarely has to make difficult choices between bad and worse options. Everything he needs ends up just falling into his lap and everyone praises and kisses his feet for being in the right place at the right time.

Great compared to the rest of the web novels you can find on this website, but web novels are all horrible so it's not much of an achievement. <<less

The title of the novel is misleading and this isn't a story of some king/lord who reincarnates but a normal craftsman who instead transimgrates.

Well, besides that, I ought to say that it is one of the, if not, the best Kingdom Building novel out there. Mind you, it actually kicks off from Chapter 50ish but the prelude is everything you need to know about MC's life and his transition into this new world. How he adapts and acclimates well with his peers and friends is among the good starting points.... more>> As the story proceeds on, it gets adventurous and exciting with ooh too many an ordeals.

MC and his convoy survives in the cracks and ridges of the worn torn old empire to make it to their dominion.

Character developments and interactions aah. There're extremes. From good for nothing fools to shameless but resilient and cunning schemers but whoever they maybe, they are well explained and have proper background and emphasis. Surprisingly, I feel like side characters have more plot armour than the protagonist here haha.

The cultivation of this world is nothing unique, it's your step by step sword and body progression in 'battleforce' quantity and comprehensions. But not so excessive that one overly strong person can slaughter through it all. Human wave tactics can make do with even the supreme powerhouses here. So, there's some balance.

As it is a Kingdom Building, it must adhere to that genre, no. Well, this is where the novel actually shines (as it should). It is obviously your desolate countryside yet again as starting point to being a central hub in the world. But, how it proceeds and especially the writing and proper translation is the main focal point. Did I say writing? It doesn't feel like a Webnovel at all. Instead it tends to be more like a well published literature novel. Everything's taken care of as you'd expect with tropes like military and administration and population settlement among the few (albeit very radically). It could have been better if MC brought more modern/advanced administration system in the mix instead of following the victorian nobel system as is. He also tends to forget that he's not from this world to begin with, maybe a good or bad point but that's subjective.

Lastly, the Main Character. Tbh, I don't like him much, if not for his character development and interactions, story wouldn't be as good as it is. From scheming to self strength to military arrangement tho, he properly excels and exhibits. I don't mind the little harem he's collected since he's a lord now who needs to have several descendants to bring up his house. Fixes well in this setting but it is excessive, he and his women become more dumb as they stay together. Alas, it has to be. He draws a line between pragmatism and optimism but he sometimes, no oftentimes relies on the latter which never works in his favour. Sighs, so that's that.

All in all. It's a 9.5/10 from me. <<less

It's easy to feel apprehensive when starting a novel that's on "Indefinite Hiatus", but I needed a break from 2, 000+ chapter long Xianxia novels. Came in hoping this Medieval-ish wartime novel could scratch my Kingdom Building itch. But alas the MC starts of as a mercenary, academy instructor & gullible super simp. Sure it makes him an upright & straightforward character, yet not so suitable for intricate schemes. Until later when there's a huge shift in focus, alongside some dull info dumping.

Fortunately the author manages to grab my... more>> interest in this warring world, with a decent "Battle Force" system, before transitioning into some large battles, army building & domain development. And a hefty amount of both tasteful and irksome s*xual content, sprinkled on the side. In the end I can't help but appreciate how this author doesn't shy away from anything this genre has to offer. From the importance of an alliance, Intel & logistics. To the troubles of having a harem and the spawning of arrogant young masters. Shame he couldn't give the MC a worthy adversary, right up until its abrupt end. <<less

I can't recommend this novel. There are too many things wrong with it. If u really have no life or just want to waste time, then probably go ahead and read it.

Here are my complaints:

- MC is smart but makes s*upid decisions sometimes.

... more>> - MC grew up in modern China but just goes with the flow and doesn't get rid of the noble/monarch system in the new world.

- Once MC is the head of his family he has no further obligation to the person who own his body previously, but nope gotta obey the rules traditions of the kingdom.

- MC can be ruthless to non-noble enemies, but treats noble enemies like a house guest (due to the agreement rules, which is a pile of bull...)

- MC has the power and resources, but he sure likes to suck up to the second highness like a little dog. The second highness is a weasel and weak as punk but nope gotta suck it up hard cause of his title. MC could just kill the second highness and be king but nope gotta follow the rules that others don't really care about.

- MC cares so much about his soldiers and knights, but gets them kill like crazy, such a hypocrite. The fastest and non causalities way is to lure the blademasters out and kill them himself. Then infiltrate the castles and kill the leader, but nope gotta face the enemies head on cause u know, the rules. <<less

It's a decent story but can't rly recommend something half finished, it has many info dumps and like most Web novels appalling repetitions and unnecessary explanations to inflate word count do be prepared to skip many paragraphs.

With 30 or something chapters it could have a decent wrap up end, sadly it is axed.

Had to survive the 40 chapter long info dump at the beginning. I heard that this is one of the best kingdom building novels out there so I had high hopes (src. Release the Witch) I even read that there's no plot Armour and that the MC faced setbacks sometimes. But when 100 chapters were passed, there were moments where I only had a single question for MC.

Are you f*cking s*upid? I'm genuinely curious, are you f*cking s*upid. It's like his 40+ years of leaving in the technology and innovative... more>> world of Earth just vanished to smoke.

Spoiler

Example: when MC is engaged in a war. The enemy has a moat of 3 meters wide around their fortress. MC's forces has to fill it up just to cross over. Throughout my reading of this I keep thinking that there are easier, easier ways of cross a 3 meter moat than just filling it up. When plot comes to shove, one of MC soldier suggested to make a temporary and carried bridge made of wood to cross. MC and forces was totally dumbfounded. 🤦‍♀️

[collapse]

It also seems that the author suffers from the same disease as the author of The Legendary Mechanic. They explained everything they could explain, like their goal is not the story but the word count instead. This is extremely tedious, I've come to experienced scimming chapter and chapters, and chapters because of this.

It is still decent or possibly good for people who are interested in warfare. (I dropped at 174 and there wasn't much of that Kingdom Building yet). Just not for me, I guess. Also I really like when the mini smuts aren't just fade to black, that was a bonus. <<less

Indeed, the story is well written and the characters are not 2 dimensional brainless idiots.

BUT

as much as I liked the world building, culture, description and characters that fleshed our the story, the MC makes the most idiotic decisions I've ever seen to the point where I feel like I must drop the novel cuz its causing me some serious outbursts of anger. This MC is basically kneeling down in front of some shitty greedy prince/highness, opens his mouth and "reluctantly" sucks the guys dick, just because "it's his obligation as... more>> a lower noble. In the end it amounts to "readers spend xx amount of chapters (plot and all) to gain some sort of benefits in the form of territory/equipment, which is in the end given for free to the prince because MC believes its his obligation. When anyone else who had a brain, would of killed that crap which wouldn't have affected the MC. AND this repeats itself a few times (in fact at ch347, he just helped him get back to power).

The MC does a lot of other s*upid and brainless decisions and skips on obvious opportunities. <<less

This story has an around 50+ chapter of info dump, other then that it is actually a pretty good read. It started to pick up when the MC receive word from his family, before that he was studying far away from the family.

The story is about a modern person get isekai to other world, but he doesn't bring much knowledge into that world, he used to be a craft-men, who do odd request. His previous family practice martial art, which he use and become stronger than other in that world.... more>> His family in that world is a weak noble family. He was able to become the head of the family and bring it to new high. My first favorite thing is that one-person strength is very limited, people are still limited by the element, like need to eat, feel cold/heat, need sleep and MC does not has limitless energy.

The MC is not born a leader, but was made a leader after many trail he has to go thought when he head back to his family territory. From killing bandit, to destroying a count family while his family is only that of a baron. To his force under the order of the prince looting half of the kingdom of noble, that don't follow command of the new king.

My second favorite thing is that killing are more well-define. No killing mindlessly, People are kill when in war, people are afraid of death and grudge are solvable. In other novel, when there are a grudge, the only way to solve it is to kill. In this novel, people won't put everything on the line just for a grudge unless it is very severe. Grudge from one person won't affect an entire force to act rash.

There are arrogant noble, but people don't follow order mindlessly. It really show that leadership is a thing. One thing in other novel that I don't like is that even if the master call their follower a useless tr*sh or dog, the follower still follow other even if they don't like it. In this novel if someone don't treat you well, you can justify betraying them.

Although there are like 1 arrogant young master, His family is not s*upid enough to help him become more arrogant. It show that for a force to become strong, it leader has to be capable.

There are useless noble and capable noble, no discrimination there. In time of war, those are show really well. Noble when to war with other noble is common. The people in this novel has a mind of there own. Not a mindless or everyone has the same mind. People in the trade union feel pride because they are a free person who doesn't have to do thing their noble those them to.

People of the other several kingdom respect noble and everyone want to become a noble. Because no matter how rich you are, a poor noble still has the right to kill you as long as you are within their land, you have to follow their law, and noble are usually the law.

What I don't like are:

MC sometime can be a push over. He get taken advantage of by many people. However one person who take advantage of him are the prince with is his senior noble, so he did has to do want his senior noble tell him most of the time, and can't reject unless it harm his own family interest very deeply. Many people thing that he doesn't have to do so, but I personally thing what he did is right, as he making his subordinate and his people hated the prince more and more. This will make it so if he want to break free from his senior noble the change won't affect his subject, because most of his subject use to live in the land of the empire which the prince control.

The MC is not perfect, he doesn't know everything, he does has oversite, and he does make mistake. The thing I hate about the novel is that it is not complete, the author drop this amazing novel right when it was at it peak. The MC noble house has finally become a continental power, and can create/break smaller kingdom. But, we still haven't seen his household become an empire despise having a few seek-peak at the true ending. We still haven't seen the other race, yes there are other race like fairy, dwarf, and many other. We only get to see one dwarf who was introduce with gun, yes there are gun, but it is too rare to be of any use in battle. <<less

42 ch of nonsense hmm... that has to be a record. As for those who keep saying this is slow development must be idiots. this isn't slow development this is just pure waste of time. I can understand slow development if no major conflicts happen and the plot progesses for 100s of chapters till a major climax thats slow development, this isn't there is basically a f*cking flask back every 3 chapters and the flashbacks are like 4+ ch each are u kidding me. worse part is the way the... more>> author presents the flashbacks are hard to digest. like normally when theres a flashback its recalling a very specific event its not like this where the guys basically f*cking contemplating about his life experiences. plus why does the author stacks up the flashbacks all so close together its like 1 happens right after another. literally reminds me of f*cking shitty naruto.
