The novel is fine, the writing is good and so is the translation, but ugh, I just can't with its MC. The way he constantly flirts with anyone who has a v*gina is not cute nor it is funny, it's simply annoying, especially since it's the kind of flirting that leads to nowhere and pretty much pointless other than to add word count to the story. Every time an "unrivaled beauty" pops up the MC would spend multiple chapters flirting with her, and since there are like a bazillion beauties... more>> in this story (and it's only been 165 goddamn chapters!) it amounts to a bazillion pointless flirting. Also how dumb is his teacher? Get this, his teacher is banished and crippled by his wife's family (who disapproved of their relationship) and a strong cultivator. These two practically are the overlords of a certain city/province and the academy there. So what did this absolutely brilliant teacher do? He sends his disciple to the said city, run by his enemies. Like b*tch, seriously, don't tell me it's the only academy in the goddamn country?

Besides' the MC doesn't need an academy, he already received an inheritances from a super powerful cultivator. What he needs is to sit down and study those inheritances.

the author must have also realized how goddamn idiotic this is, so he made excuses about how the MC needs protection and the academy could provide that, well it would have made sense if not for the fact that almost everybody in the city and the academy hated both the teacher and the MC's guts. Including the teacher's old pals and their clans. Protection? Phooey, they would be lucky to find someone who doesn't want to beat their asses in that place.

I'll continue to read this novel, if it gets better i'll edit this review.

Edit 1:

About 90% of the people in this novel: "Is he trying to pick his nose? He's overestimating his own ability, there's no way a loser like him can pick his own nose' they said in disgust.

*the MC picks on his nose awesomely*

The people: *Shocked Pikachu face*

Ok, It's not bad, it's a common novel, with so many tr*sh novels being translated, this can be considered "good".

The major problem with this novel is the pace, it's waaaaaaaaay too slow. It's like it was made to be a novel with more than 4000 chaps pretty easy.

So, I kinda dislike when the MC is in a much lower realm when compared to his enemies. He needs dozens of years and everything is done in months, this means that he has to rely in seniors to survive. Even so, It's... more>> good, there's not harem "yet" and even If it turn to be an harem, It would be MUCH better than 99% of harems, because the only girl besides his wife, is very well made.

I like but once you get close to finish all the chaps translated, turn to be boring, that why I gave a 3 stars. <<less

MC uses staff/rod and spells for the entire 500 chapter, then it says that his title is sword emperor in later chapters. He was so arrogant and prideful, but feels fine becoming an attendant to a little girl just because of some reason that only makes sense to him and the author, then he doesn't want to join a force or clan anymore, but in the end joined because of reasons. Inconsistent.

In the beginning, the story was great there was some character development some interesting mysteries and the brotherhood between the MC and Yu Shang was great, Then after that, the novel started blending with the usual CN novel type it became more focusing on face-slapping and you know the rest, so I'm gonna resume it in this :

Pros :

  • Good character development
  • most characters won't get abandoned
  • Cute romance between MC and FMC
  • Brotherhood
  • Righteous Mc
Cons :

  • Too much face-slapping
  • The author just can't stop repeating how the MC is handsome and it seems like in this world if you are not good looking you aren't worth sh*t and oh beauties the mc's GF remains the most supreme beauty no matter where
  • Worldbuilding is okay-ish I can't say that I got immersed in it
  • Villains are s*upid most of the time they fall for the MC verbal tactics every time.
  • Sometimes The MC becomes a hypocrite
I don't know what to say it started well then it became all about how beautiful/handsome she/he is, proposals and sh*t it's still okay to read if you can bear what I mentioned above.

The story is fine and MC is fun at start but when he mature the fun was lost

The fight scene is good but I can't fathom and understand it at all it's too long confusing you can get who win when someone spit blood.

Wtf did he do to Glass Saint? He mol*sted her just to kill sacred king and fails. He should take responsibility for that and take her as his woman! But it doesn't seem he care at all. Tsk tsk

I'm disappointed with MC, in order to end the war/battle he's thinking of handing li yao in which he captured and he's angry at xia rong for killing li yao that implicated the imperial advisor. Why would the war end if he hand over that bastard without paying the price? They are already at war and he's thinking avoiding war by not killing the prince? I'm f*ckin confused. Countless died at war and he's sparing the bastard which was the cause in exchange of ceasefire. Xia Rong did not do anything wrong li dinasty will weaken with imperial advisor treason, he's thinkin for benefits of their kingdom the li have wage war because of futian and xia is in full support of him if MC really was sentimental with imperial advisor then he should have sacrifice himself and avoid the war.

Not recommended as a casual read. On the surface it seems like your standard cultivation novel with an OP MC and close brotherhood connections. When reading it though, the author makes the MC OP as fk yes, but also throws him and his cronies into the blender. Like is it impossible for the MC to not have his back to the wall for like more than (2) chapters?? His clan/country/state/school is constantly at risk of destruction or death, and he always has to face enemies like 2 major ranks stronger... more>> than him. He does get through them by making sacrifices here and there, but it's rough. To add to that: don't get too attached to characters bc the author does NOT let them off (until redemption later maybe). Case in point: the imperial advisor. The MC is shown to be helpless in many different situations despite his OPness. Another thing: the MC's attitude to girls. He claims to be obsessively in love and loyal to his wife but is constantly being flirtatious and weak to beautiful women, which he is surrounded by. Literal simp fr.

Some pros I guess: MC is OP. MC is apparently beautiful as fk. Surrounded by gorgeous girls. Some very endearing people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for him and gamble their fates on supporting him. MC has emotions and feels somewhat human. Enemies are not always one sided, some are shown to be good humans just in different circumstances, and some enemies have come to fight together with him against a bigger threat. Dropped bc it felt emotionally stressful to read. <<less

Quite similar to the author's other story, Ancient Godly Monarch or whatever, and just like in that case, it is good enough to wonder how the author of the garbage PMG could write it. Guy really improving. However, while the story is decent overall, and has a much better beginning than AGM, it also is less to my taste. This 3/5 isn't exactly a solid score.

So the setting is okay. Nothing special, but at least this time we know almost right away that we are in some boonies (the region... more>> is literally called barren). Cultivation is okay, and spirits are pretty standard for this author. Well, the cultivation levels are a bit confusing—the first realm has like 9 sublevels, and it's confusing AF to remember them all as each has its own unique name that doesn't matter because it isn't really reflected by any unique features in actuality and yet the next realm's sublevels, which are as many, aren't named, and are only numbered... As you can see from the gibberish I wrote, the author's tripping in those cultivation levels.

The plot is okay. I won't describe anything to avoid spoiling, but it's okay. Just like with AGM, the author put some effort into writing the story.

The characters... Well, they're good in general (although we have lots of nobodies that have no depth because they have no or little significance). I like that, just like in AGM, not every beauty is a love interest (I actually googled one to see if there's any fanart, because I thought she's definitely a harem member, but it turned out she's dead later on lol), and isn't going to end up with the protagonist. This is good. What is also good is that not all conflicts lead to death of one side (and are defused), and that we have very prominent male characters aside from the protagonist. It's really nice.

My main gripe is with the protagonist. He's a funny guy, but I can't look at him

Spoiler

being a henpecked husband before he even got married. And he's supposed to be an emperor in the future? And supposedly already has the aura and (occasionally) the bearing of an emperor? You're tripping, author.

[collapse]

This really ruins it for me. But I know why the author wrote it like that:

Spoiler

It's basically because an average Chinese noob can't have a pretty girlfriend, because if he does, she can easily coerce him into doing what she wants him to do by threatening him with dumping him, because she is very much aware that she can get another 10 noobs like him, but he can't get another pretty girl like her... usually. That's because most pretty girls are hanging out with successful guys with money or status (do you know that these days in China you must have a house and a car to get a wife?), and not with losers like the average webnovel reader in China (let's face it, most Chinese Chads are probably busy killing it at their job or socializing with big wigs or other successful guys). In other words, we have a case of a pauper trying to imagine how it is to be a king, and doing a good job until you realize he thinks that a king will feel lucky to find 10 cents lying on the ground, and will bother picking the coin up

[collapse]

So not only is the protagonist a bit off from what the author intended for him, but it also happens to be one of the things that are my pet peeves currently (noobs pandering to their girlfriends just because she's pretty). Have some goddamn dignity.

If you don't mind that, the protagonist is good. He has his chill side and his serious side. He's a decent person, kind of. He's not a ret*rd or anything. Sometimes he's impulsive, but damn, he's a teenager. He does an okay job staying low-key when he does. What I don't like is that the author made him a jack of all trades in terms of cultivation, and then he ends up not using most of those abilities.

Spoiler

For example the MC can use all elements, talismans, and qin music, but he ends up almost never using the earth element, and when he uses other elements, he at most uses one or two at a time. He also almost never used talismans after learning them (maybe once?). And don't get me started on spirits that he seems to almost never use more than one or two of despite having just as many as all the other things I just mentioned combined.

[collapse]

Also, the author can't quite seem to decide whether the protagonist is extremely good looking or not. At first, there was very little mentioned about this, but then the cast keeps meeting new beauties, who always happen to be inferior to the female lead, and the author starts to claim that MC is just as good-looking as her, but there was nothing of the sort at the very start of the story. Either the MC changed but the author forgot to mention the process, or the author is just tripping (retcon).

The romance is good so far. Just like in AGM, the author isn't too bad at writing romantic drama. He's also doing a good job at making it hard to guess who is a love interest and for whom the protagonist is a love interest. This is a good plus in harem stories because it's boring to know who is a love interest just by appearance and descriptions. With that said, love interests could use some deeper characterization in the story (the female lead is quite some ways lagging behind the protagonist). I haven't read enough to say it with any certainty, but AGM may have better written love interests.

Oh, right, the translation. It's pretty solid overall, but there are some mistranslations that I can see. Minor and rare cases, fortunately. The only thing to point out I have is that I have no clue why most demon beast are a "she" even when the context doesn't seem to confirm that. At least it was so in the first 100-150 chapters, then I saw more "its." Maybe the translator changed (it's a group translating).

Overall, a somewhat promising story (which is rare for Chinese webnovels) but keeps rubbing me wrong with my pet peeve so it can F off. <<less

Alright; so this novel could've been quite the ride, you know. ... more>>
Spoiler

There was the mysterious family background and that super power that allows him to just jump in battle strength and kill enemies, Life Spirits that were seemingly just top notch. And then, what I feared the most happened; cultivation, relationships, plot and even side quests of dealing with useless characters for over 50 chapters before ultragenius#13 appears and another big fight for other not even mentioned speaking people to say how veiny and grotesque the MC's huge d*ck is; all of it, is simply not important. Not critical. Not capable of making a single change. None of what happens, can amount to anything in the future; clean slate and next lazed plot.

[collapse]

I've read Ni Cang Tian's novels that are 1.8k for the last 2 he made even. All of them got me hooked in how the MC was the MC because of himself and not because of the fact that the author was writing this story. Here does not. Though I did was surprised seeing the change in JWH's style for this third book, most recent one of his and how the comedy was just fine at the beginning. It just turns into the very same old edgy, 12yo chuni and whatnot of the same old JWH.

Cultivation is one of the tags of the novel; Xuanhuan alright. However, it isn't important, as I said before. It is all divided into 9 except for the last 2 realms, and is supposed to be extremely unique, something that just cannot be 'simply' comprehended. But at the end of it all, it is worst than even novels of the same tag that have a simple (not just a simpler; a simple) cultivation system. And even then, they still do have like lots of different schools for that matter. Yet this one is horrendous in that very same aspect even though its main focus is just that.

Battle prowess of the MC is like a true, genuine rival of a real MC. Let's say, like Lin Ming against that guy from the Saint race that could also jumps levels to defeat the people at the third last cultivation realm while in the 4rth last. Then he battles Lin Ming in a battle and that was just beautiful of how LM put him down. Here not, here it is not important if you yourself already know that he should've win already and that life spirits here, dharma that and so on; because everything depends on whatever JWH feels not lazy enough to write about that day.

Romance? I've seen better, and that 'better' are dozens of chapters dragged dramas of 50mints duration before they barely look at each other's eyes. And here, it is just meh. So they join each other as lovers, by holding hands, kissing and hugging; and then, keep it all the way 10 years later with nothing else. Reason? *blushes*.

JWH seems to want to give a sense of 'I've grown up and I don't just write the same anymore'. And it's the truth. But from his 3 novels, though all equally disappointing in the matters of treating females in ntr disgusting ways that aren't MC's, AGM had the most solid and collected writing. It is normal, considering the first one had quite lots of chapters as well. But in his third, it just feels vacant and lazy. I do not feel emboldened nor motivated when reading; it's too plain. As such, all of his 'new' changes are rather bland though appreciated, that is true.

Do I wanna keep reading this at 678 chapters? Nah. I feel so bored and I'm mostly skimming because of boredom and not because of filler (only).

It does have a great cleanliness, almost no filler at all. But all text seems to be made for readers that have seen the images themselves or witnessed it themselves, it won't work. At the beginning it isn't very obvious, later on, jesus...

YF ends up being just some little kid who is suddenly adept at changing faces to speak bluntly and righteously but later on inconsistently be childish and an aw. Those inconsistencies and hypocrisies just do not do well for MC's, but the writing style makes it seem as if MC could never be wrong, sigh... that's not so bad but, really JWH? Really.

I do recommend it if you're up for skimming through a novel without barely some filling at all, I am surely going to keep trying, but this novel's contents are just like a retelling of what you already know, when you don't know. <<less

the story won't stop repeating itself. It's horribly repetitive.

all the enemies are practically indistinguishable from others you encountered earlier in the story (and so many other web novels). Everyone acts the same. Makes the same mistakes. Dies for the same reasons.

this author also commits another common sin of the chinese web novelist. The romance is just a mcguffin. If the characters reunite you can rest assured they're going to have no meaningful progress before separating again a few chapters later. All to give the MC a reason to continue progressing.

good story. slow but every ark builds the world up and the mc's lineage is slowly revealed. as for the harem... eehh its like all other novels, but MC is determine to marry only one chick and is very loyal. all the other girls know but still follow him. I actually feel pity for the chicks that follow the MC as MC treats them as servants. I personally haven't felt any plot armor at work as the situations were well explained. some people complained about the events benefiting the MC...... more>> I just dont see it.

two reason I can think why they think this.

one is the MC lineage and that he is actually a genius above all others. only problem is that the MC only started training when he was 16 or 18 in the most remote country side village. meaning no coaches or resources so everyone thinks he is weak.

second is that when he enters a new region, the battles that led him to reach that region would cause him to unleash his imperial will from his lineage. the ruler of each region will be like " oh shit" and protect the MC so... the MC benefiting from this is reasonable. <<less

Although this story has the harem tag, the male lead so far has stayed loyal to the female lead. Classification of a harem novel could just mean many females like the male lead, however, the male lead doesn't have to show interest in them. So far the story is pretty good, the only thing I wish for is that the female lead shows up more. I think the story lacks interaction between the female and male lead.

So far I love this novel! This is one of the best Xuanhan novels I have ever read. The protagonist isn't angsty of any sort, he is light-hearted and wants to be lowkey but his enormous and 'heaven-defying' talents prevent him from staying away from the spotlight. The protagonist continues to demonstrate his talent throughout the book, and he is definitely the most talented at the state (barren state) that he is now.

There are problems with the work. There are slow stretches. Some characters are flat. The interactions with the female characters - specially his matchmaking efforts - are totally meh to yuck.

However, there is something for redemption. The arc immediately after the MC moved beyond his home kingdoms to the broader Eastern Barren Region (about chapter 200 to chapter 400) was interesting in terms of the plots from the minor and major rivals. And it has a rare, and interesting, engagement with the philosophical questions related to the quest for power.

It... more>> is so different from some of the earlier stretches that I wonder if it was lifted from some other work.

It is not an obvious 5 star novel, though it is far better than a rage and kill all novel, and just for the one great arc it deserves 5 stars. <<less

I am a fanatic of romance collab with xianxia, wuxia or xuanhuan.

So I'm just gonna comment on that aspect only.

As for starters, this novel gave you a feeling like BTTH, where everyone looked down on MC, including the said fiance or potential fMC, but turns out the potential fMC breaks the tie. (This is similar to BTTH)

... more>> Then as the MC power up almost suddenly, there comes the main FMC. (Yeayyyy!!)

The relationship in this piece is almost suddenly.

There is subtle harem, but the author manages it so~so, so it still sticks to the tag of 'protag loyal to love interest'

The interaction between FMC and MC is quite okay.

Overall, there's some parts where it's so sudden that you was like ''what happened., how? '' But give some more chapters a try and you'll make it far. <<less

It's not the worst thing out there. But I wouldn't call this novel revolutionary. There are many like it out there some more arrogant then the MC. But I do find the classifications of their "gifts" interesting, one on the Martial arts end, and then mixing in some magic and wizardry in there. It's hard to tell from 26 chapters, but I believe this is going to be one of those novels that just conveniently creates situations to make the MC look OP and awesome. I don't mind those kinds... more>> of situations, but depending on how repetitive it gets make or breaks this novel. <<less
