I read this because the concept sounded fun, but it was just not for me. There is some cute fluff though and some funny moments. I'd say to give it a try if you want a silly read about pretty girls getting together and you aren't too worried about plot.

I think this could have been a 3 star book for me if it didn't seem to totally lose the plot like 1/3 of the way in. It got overly focused on a variety show plot that I really struggled to... more>> make it through. The system missions seemed to be totally forgotten for large chunks of the novel.

The romance itself was cute at times, but I wanted more build up. I don't mind the MC being a little dense about romance since she grew up very sheltered by her family, but the FL seemed equally confused a lot of the time. <<less

There is a decent amount of yuri.

But the whole system and dango is wholly underutilized, might as well just make her strong without a system. Just make her a xianxia character in mortal world.

But overall it was enjoyable.

I'll say this right up front. If you are here because you just want to read a cute yuri novel then go on ahead and do you. You'll probably really like this story. However, if you're looking for a more.... substantial story then you will probably have to force yourself to finish this one. It almost seemed like the author started out with the intention to write one story and then forcefully changed it part way through. I have 2 major issues with the story and a handful of smaller... more>> gripes.

In my opinion the first... maybe third of the novel is actually done really well. The system is a really interesting story dynamic that could have really brought a lot of depth and conflict to the story in a unique way. I say "could have" because for some reason the author effectively ends up abandoning the system story line about halfway through. It still makes a small appearance here and there but it's never honestly relevant to the story after a certain point.

The main character is the second major issue I have. More accurately the development of the main character, or should I say regression? The main character starts off hardworking, determined, and extremely intelligent while being both gentle and confident. At times she shows signs of being both slightly cunning and slightly naive. While she is never the most socially aware she is sociable and others are drawn to her. Maybe not the most unique characters to ever grace the genre but likeable nonetheless with the possibility of character growth. Unfortunately, except for being hard working, she loses most of these traits. By the end she is almost defind as being obsessively infatuated with her love interest. The author was pretty clear early on that they were really excited about writing the love interest and including her in the story. Unfortunately that characters personality kind of took over and the main character lost her individuality because of it.

Aside from those two complaints there are a lot of other issues with the story.

1.I dont want to downplay the translation, it was good and readable throughout. They also did a very nice job of clarifying what certain terms and idioms meant. Several times they explained why they used a certain word although the actual symbols used could have meant a number of other things. They clearly need an editor though. Almost evey chapter had a few typos. Nearly every character had their names spelled multiple different ways. Sometimes the wrong character name would be used, someone who wasn't even present would have their name used for something that someone else clearly did.

2. The love interest is legitimately as generic as you can get. If I described her personality right now everyone would be able to come up dozens of characters who fit the exact same character type. Even if you didnt like romance, you would still be able to name a few at the very least, thats how generic she is. I cannot figure out why the author was so excited to include her.

3. There were a lot, and I do mean a lot, of plot points that were abandoned. I don't know if the author just didn't like them any more or if they forgot about them. But several times an event/goal/quest/condition was presented that was clearly foreshadowing something in the future and those things never had any payoff.

4. Lastly, this has been mentioned in several other reviews but I'm going to use spoiler just to be safe. I'll try to be vague.
Spoiler

The first character to be introduced after the MC basically has their plot thrown away. It's the relegated to being the glorified angel (or devil) on the MC's shoulder. I feel this is especially heartbreaking because it gave the story a clear direction, and an obtainable goal. Without that the story just became more and more convoluted.

[collapse]

I hate to say it because (based on the ratings) most people are here for a cute yuri novel, but this one would have probably been a much more interesting read if the love interest was never included. The original plot and premis had promise and originality. You could have still had the yuri subplot in the background. But the love interest kind of stripped all that away and the author decided to focus on (in my opinion) a much less interesting story line. <<less

It started as the typical martial arts system novel, then became a rom com where, aside for a couple hints, the author never really explains why they started to like each other, it was more like one of those just put two hot lesbians in a room kinda story; later becomes a movie star grind, a game show that transforms into a mu*der mystery with very surrealist sh*t going on:

Spoiler

mutant dogs and man-eating cats fighting in a huge and gory battle to the death in an abandoned theme park turned cemetery where hundreds of people disappeared in dubious circumstances and where the police never managed to figure out what was happening because it was too spoopy owo uwu. My man was smoking a fat ass blunt when writing that specific part

[collapse]

Then, enter some f*cked up psycho villains Ted Bundy style and a happy ending, surprisingly.

What I mean is that the tone is sometimes drastically different even really off-putting especially when you're expecting a wholesome yuri love story. I just read the first line of the description and I was expecting the typical shounen martial arts novel tbh.

Still all the characters were charming and likable and I thought the MC and FL were very cute together. You just have to manage your expectations going into this one. <<less

Start off good.. Later it kinda loses its way (?) Good and easy read to pass time. Nothing I'd really read otherwise– plotwise is PWP, lol. It's cute and funny. Characters are likeable.. A bit dumb but that's expected 😂 overall 4 stars.

Really good for the most part, is just wish they focused a bit more on the acting. Juexi's excessive bottomness and Su's excessive topness just felt contrived as well. It basically turned into an overbearing CEO novel with two girls with the MC lacking any of the spice of some of the better female leads. She is absurdly strong but stays hopelessly naive through the entire story. Her family, friends and lover tell her nothing because "we just want her to be carefree" or whatever.

It might sound like I'm hating... more>> on it here but for the most part I liked it enough to give it a 5 star rating. I just wish the MC was more proactive. <<less
